Jay did terrific work in my house! I needed peeling paint repaired on the bathroom ceiling, an attic access hole cut, and a closet built out. I'll go through each task: --Attic access hole - With Jay's advice, and after some exploratory work, I decided not to follow through with this task. Jay was great explaining what he found when he made a small exploratory hole in the ceiling to look in the attic, and making clear that this task could become a bigger job than we expected and yield a smaller access hole than would be useful. --Bathroom ceiling repair - The peeling paint is all fixed and painted, and Jay gave me some helpful tips (like installing an exhaust fan switch timer) to help avoid moisture problems in the future. Jay also did some extra work to make sure this damage was from shower moisture and not due to a leak from above. --Coat closet build-out - Jay did an outstanding job with this. The space needed drywall repair, flooring repair, trim, doors, and a closet rod installed. Jay came up with creative solutions for the challenges with the flooring and the drywall repair, and the finished product looks terrific. I highly recommend J&S Home Maintenance!

Jay is the guy you hope you'll find when you do a search on Angie's List. He's experienced, knowledgable, honest, timely, understated, professional, and has palpable integrity. He has figured out ways to fix common household problems that aren't in any book, but that work like a charm. After he came and did all the little jobs that had accumulated over time that we didn't know how to do, we made the dumb mistake of hiring a different guy, a friend of a friend, to do work on our fence. That guy made a total mess of things. Even though Jay had bid the fence job and not been hired for it, he agreed to come back to ook at the bad repair work the other guy did to see if he could improve on it. Jay gave us a respectful, honest assessment of what it would take to get it back to what we had originally wanted. He had no attitude, no judgement and no concern about the fact that we had someone else do it. He is a consummate professional. I have rarely had an experience with a worker as positive as the one I've had with Jay. He's simply the best.

Very meticulous, excellent job and we could tell right away, his work ethic is commendable.... Responsible, integrity, Punctual, fair price. Very pleased with the work Jay has done so far and are looking forward to having him do more jobs for us in the future.

Jay was wonderful to work with. He called back within 24 hours after I left a message with an inquiry and let me know he was booking 3 weeks out. We picked a date and the night before, he called to confirm and let me know what time he'd be there. Arrived on time, looked at all of the work, and gave me an accurate estimate. He worked quickly and fixed everything that needed fixing. After fixing the side of the curtain rod my daughter had pulled out of the wall, he checked the other side and found it loose and fixed that as well. When I asked him about making an extra shelf for my built in bookcase, he let me know up front that it would be $200 for labor and supplies since he'd have to actually create the trim needed. Since he didn't have all the supplies with him, he took an old shelf with him and came back the next day with the new shelf completed, and it's a perfect match! I asked him about another small painting project, and after assessing it, he told me he thought I could do the work myself and not have to pay him for a full day of painting (the project would have required multiple steps and coats, which is not hard, but is time consuming). He was pleasant, worked around my child's toys, and I would hire him again in an instant!

Great job, very detail oriented. There was a small problem with the sink after he installed it, he came right away and fixed the problem. He made very sure to tell me that he will come back and fix any issues for 1 year, which gave me peace of mind. A very honest provider with a lot of integrity.

Jay was very good about communicating potential problems as the work progressed. We are very pleased with the results!

Went better than great. Jay Behnke replaced the broken park but the sink was draining very slowly and he worked on that thing until it was working perfectly. Can say how much I appreciated his good work. This is the 2nd time he had done something for me and I would hire him again and again.

Jay was punctuality, he had to run to several places to get parts for the job and charged less than his original estimate. He is knowledgable and detail oriented. Would definitely use for other odd jobs or I need a hand around the house again.

I contacted J&S looking for someone to repair/replace some fatigued supports for my roof. Even though it took a few back-and-forth voice messages between myself and Jay (the owner of J&S?) before we connected, he was very good at calling regularly rather than leaving me hanging. When we did speak and I explained the scope of the job, Jay was very forthcoming about his inexperience with this type of work and suggested that, while he might attempt the repairs if I desired, it would probably be better if I found someone more directly qualified. He even suggested a lead or two. While I didn't actually have any services performed by J&S, I would nonetheless recommend them for their integrity, honesty and professionalism.

He did a great many things for me. Everything was done very competently and he is very good at them. The quality of work is excellent.

It was a pleasure working with Jay. He is responsive, and thorough in his assessment of the work that needs to be done. He has done it all and it shows! After years of modification for mobility issues, the home was cluttered with railings, extra light fixtures, handicap bars and the like. Jay worked his way from room to room taking down fixtures that weren't needed, and patching walls to be ready for paint. He worked on removing lighting fixtures, replaced a missing door and helped with an install of a new refrigerator. There is nothing he can't do! I wholeheartedly recommend him for any home maintenance issue .. Jay knows his business!

Jay is AMAZING! Response time to inital inquiry was fast. Came to check it out the next day and showed up the next day to fix the issues. Helped me with some stuff I found after he got here with no hesitation. Definitely went above and beyond. Work was professionally done and perfect. Work was completed within approximate time frame. Was able to fit us into the schedule sooner than promised.

He quickly fixed the leak under the house, repair the icemaker and cleaned a drain in the kitchen. He was fast, efficient and friendly as well as cost effective. I've got his card on my fridge and will us him again, should the need arise.

Jay is great. He has an eye for detail & goes to the crux of an issue to come up with solutions to solve problems. His working style is methodical, neat, & efficient. He discusses repair issues in detail; but, doesn't waste time chatting. (1) After plumber repaired leaky pipe, I thought entire length of soffit would need to be replaced. After putting in insulation, Jay was able to repair ~ 12" x 12" cutout & paint to match house. (2) Jay patched the drywall under the kitchen sink, needed after plumber repaired leak; area was difficult to access due to tight working area & pipes, drains, garbage disposal. Jay did a very nice job, drywall looks great. (3) Base under kitchen sink was stinky & ugly after years of water damage. Jay painted with shellac to seal & put down vinyl to beautify base. (4) Cedar deck was very dirty. Jay used a deck cleaner & a power washer to clean away grime & algae. He replaced several rotting boards and a stair riser. Jay stained the second story, porch, stairs, landings of the deck. He painted the lower level 12' x 35' deck.

They did a good job. It took them a little while to get here.

In the course of having our hardwood floors refinished a previous water seepage around a French Door was discovered. I left messages for several handymen. Jay returned my call quickly and came right over. He examined the seepage error and determined that while there had been some water seepage in the past, it did not appear to be a major issue. He made some recommendations on how to avoid future issues. His promptness was especially important as there was a concern about whether this was an ongoing issue that might compromise a few stained hardwood boars that were being replaced. I later hired him to replace the weatherstripping on several exterior doors. I highly recommend Jay for home repairs at a reasonable price.

The professionalism of the workers and the quality was just outstanding. He was on time. He always communicated. He had advice as to what sort of supplies to buy. He would show up on time and he would do the work. The work just seemed flawless. He was very neat and clean, and never made a mess. When we walked out, the house looked like it did when he got here except for all the improvements that he made. I would absolutely use them again in the future.

Have used Jay several times in the past. He is honest, contentious and trustworthy. He arrived on time the day we agreed upon. Thoroughly sanded both garage doors and put on primer. Returned following day an applied two coats of paint as well as completed other fix it jobs. The garage doors look fantastic and will hold up well against the NW winds and rain.

Jay called me back promptly, within an hour of my leaving a message. He agreed to come same day and arrived soon after. He did the work quickly and well, then installed the new bulbs we had on hand. He is polite, neat, informative. The price was very fair for the time spent and materials and work done. He will come back in a few weeks for other work we also want done. We're very pleased.
