Jay is a very knowledgeable and professional individual. He shows up when he says he will. He is very open and honest about what he can or will do, and is more than willing to advise you on DYI projects. He has obviously been doing this kind of work long enough to help avoid some of the pitfalls of inexperience. The work he performed for us met or exceeded our expectations, and when the bill for his services came, We were surprised that it was not more. He does not seem to mark up any parts or supplies he buys for the job to pad his profits, and leaves the work site very clean. We would recommend J & S Home Maintenance highly.

He carefully cut out sheet rock from the walls a ceiling of 2 rooms to access plumbing for a major reroute due to a large leak. The panels he carefully cut out was put back in the exact location from where it was removed and you can't tell anything was done when he was finished. Jay was here when needed and worked well with the plumber. Working with sheet rock can be very messy but Jay kept things clean with tarps on the floor and he even vacuumed the work area at the end of every day. He was always clean dressed and professional. The work was not done in a vacant house but in the middle of our living area while we were living in it. He also pays great attention to detail.

Responded quickly to my phone inquiry. Explained his schedule and the likely time he would be able to make the repairs. He began the work sooner than he expected, always keeping me informed about scheduling. He began the work before offering a full estimation and once the estimate was received it seemed high. However, the work was done much sooner and at a highly reduced price. Was careful to inform me of any other "surprises" with my siding. Very satisfied. I would call him again.

After Jay and I agreed on a price he was able to start on the project the following afternoon. He arrived on time, set up the scaffolding he needed to use for the job and began removing the old beams. In addition to the afternoon he began work, the job required another two days. Jay was also on time those days per the agreed start time. He worked very methodically and efficiently in the removal and replacement process taking great care not to damage the deck surface he had set up on. What amazed me is that he hoisted and secured these very heavy 4 x 10's by himself once he had made the appropriate cuts needed to mate the beams with their supports. I offered several times to help him lift these but he declined politely and told me he could manage which he did. On a technical note, Jay did a great job in improving how these beams were secured at each of the points where they connect to the main 4 x 12 at the top of the structure. The original beams were secured only with nails to the main 4 x12. Jay decided to use metal "L" architectural brackets and lag bolts to secure them instead. That feature alone greatly helped improve the structural integrity of this framework. Jay also sealed the individual mating joints with caulking to prevent moisture intrusion. He did a terrific job and the structure looks better than it ever has. Jay did a terrific job! Now a few words about Jay. First and foremost he's a true professional. He showed tremedous competance in his craft and in getting this job done. Case in point, hoisting those beams by himself. He is also very polite, friendly, and glad to answer your questions. At the end of each days work he cleaned up the various work debris accumulated that day. He was always, always on time and ready to work. That, to me, is a big deal. He was up-front and honest about the project cost and there were no surprises with the final bill. For me, this job went better than I'd hoped and I'm pleased. I'd be certain to hire him again for future projects.

Mr. Behnke is very efficient, as he was when he worked for me in the past, and took care of everything very promptly. His work is also superb, and I trust him completely to take care of whatever is needed.

Jay was very responsive to our calls -- calling back the same day. He provded an estimate of the work to be done. He was very flexible in working with our changing schedule. His work was excellent and he was very cautious around the house to make sure his equipment didn't scratch our hardwood floors or dirty the carpets. He replaced a large piece of treated lumber on our garage door trim (the wood had dry rot). When he replaced it, he went the extra step to close a gap behind the trim to keep grass trimmings, leaves, etc. from accumulating there and keeping the wood wet. He did a great job repairing some nail pops we had in our bonus room -- we thought this would be a very large job requiring replastering and painting but Jay was able to do the repairs without disturbing the existing plaster. Overall, we just couldn't be happier with Jay's work and responsiveness. We have already recommended him to several friends.

Jay came right on time and evaluated the two jobs I had for him. First he removed a 30+ year old range hood and did an excellent job with the installation. He also made sure the work area was nice and clean when he was done. Same thing for the old exterior light fixture. He did a super job and was extremely professional from start to finish. He was also able to take my old items away.

Jay from J & S installed a new bathroom light/fan fixture. He was fantastic. Initially we had selected a fixture that would be far more costly to install. So, he recommended we go with another kind of fixture which would meet our needs and save us a significant amount of money on the installation. After he left, he went to the hardware store to pick up supplies he needed for other jobs and actually saw the kind of fixture we needed. He called to get the OK to proceed, purchased it on our behalf, and then immediately came out and installed it. We so appreciated the fact that he had our best interest in mind and ended up saving us $ we did not need to spend. He was professional, courteous, knowledgeable, proficient, and very tidy with his post work clean up. We would highly recommended him to anyone looking for a handyman! And we will use him again next time we have a need!

I had a long list of much-needed home repairs. I called Jay to see which items on my list he might be able to do before winter. The items included building a ladder into the crawl space, removing a no-longer-working hot water dispenser (and tank) from the kitchen sink area, re-caulking around the sink and backsplash, repairing a gate latch, installing cement diverters around 7 foundation vents, and repairing and re-staining the deck. [I later added to the list spraying with mold killer and painting 35 posts in the crawlspace, as well as cutting off some troublesome nails sticking out under the kitchen countertop.] We made an appointment for the following evening for him to see what needed to be done so that he could give me an estimate. Jay was on time, professional and courteous. As we went over the various repairs, he made notes, asked questions (and answered mine), and explained that he was currently working on a job but would be available to work on my repairs at the end of the week. He said he was due to start another job the following Monday, but was sure he could complete everything on my list before then. He called back the next day with an estimate for everything we had discussed. I was very pleasantly surprised at the amount of the estimate, but was doubtful that he could really complete everything before his other job on Monday. I assured him that it was OK if he couldn?t complete everything this time, but he was sure he could do everything. He kept saying this, and was unfazed, even when I added other repairs to the list. I was amazed at how organized and efficient Jay was, and how much he was able to accomplish in 2-1/2 days. He completed everything carefully and thoroughly. The deck looks amazing! And his final invoice was even a little under his original estimate (even including the additional work!). I plan to hire Jay again for future repair jobs. The price is great; but the quality of his work is outstanding!

Before any construction started he met with the plumber to discuss exactly that needed to be removed. He then spent the next 2 days carefully cutting out the areas as well as removing the hot water heater and bathroom vanity in preparation for the plumber. When the plumber was near completion he returned and carefully replaced the sheet rock in the exact spots and filled and textured to the point that it is impossible to see anything had been removed. He replaced the hot water tank and vanity and connected the plumbing and sink drain. One room ended up with exposed plumbing on 2 walls. He built 22 feet of soffit to cover the pipes. When he finished you would never know it wasn?t built when the house was. He arrived every day he was needed on time and stayed until the work was completed for the day. He picked up and vacuumed at the end of every day His experience and skills exceeded any challenge he faced during the construction and his finish work is excellent. The job ended up with about 3 times the work that originally planned due to plumbing changes and the cost was very much in line with the work involved.

The person who came out did a fabulous job for me. He gave us a reasonable estimate and the entire work came in under that estimate. He was really terrific and very creative.

Everything went according to schedule..very neat and clean in all aspects. Completed work was very high quality, and we are very pleased.

I had a kitchen slide-out drawer collapse which held all my dry goods and I was anxious to get this repaired since I lost a lot of counter space for temporary storage. I called Jay in the morning and he said that he had a cancellation so could do my job that afternoon--I was thrilled. He was at my home for an hour and a half to fix the drawer, and also cut 2 pieces of baseboard to go in a corner in my family room. He had to notch the baseboard for a wire as well as miter the corner. He returned to my house about 2 weeks later to install the baseboard since I had to paint it before installing. The kitchen cabinet drawer slides better than it did before collapsing, and he did an excellent job on the baseboard.
