Modern Floors

At the beginning of September of 2009, I bought a box of ConnectO vinyl flooring from this company. I was quoted a price higher than the price on the item sample on the sales floor and what I'd been told by their Sales/Decorating Consultant (who was at lunch at the time of my inquiry). When I questioned this, I was told that the item had to be shipped in and that the shipping cost wasn't included. I wondered how it was that they didn't include that information in sub-text on the price ticket attached to the sample, but I decided that I wanted that item and was willing to pay the higher price. When the item arrived the next week, I went in to pay for it and the Sales/Decorating Consultant was there. She wrote up the purchase, and the price listed was the one on the floor sample without additional charges for shipping. I asked about this, and was told that shipping costs were figured into the listed price. So, I went away happier and paying less for the item than I'd thought I would. However, we decided to do another area in the same vinyl and I called Modern Floors at the end of Sept. to order another box. The Sales/Decorating Consultant was on vacation (I asked for her by name due to my past experience). The man I spoke to assured me that he could help me and he quoted a price for the new box of flooring that was not only higher than what I'd paid just 3 weeks earlier, but higher than the highest price I'd been quoted when I first went there. I objected, detailing my earlier experience with this, and the man told me he'd check on it and get back to me. An hour later, he called and informed me that he could get the item for me cheaper than he'd originally stated, but that shipping prices had gone up in the 3 weeks since my last purchase and the price would still be $5 more for the box. (This is about a 10% increase in price over what I'd paid.) I decided to make the purchase anyway. The box arrived and I went to the store on Saturday Oct. 3, 2009 to pick it up. I paid for the item in full with my bank debit card and thought the matter was finished. BUT, on Tuesday, Oct. 6, I recieved a bill in the mail from Modern Floors for the full cost of the box of flooring I'd picked up and paid for on Saturday! I checked with my bank, and the debit had gone through. I had a sales receipt stating it was paid, and yet I'm getting a bill from them?!! I called right away and after explaining the situation, was told that I should just "ignore the billing". Trust me! I will! I also will not EVER use Modern Floors again. I've rarely experienced such unprofessional behavior. I have to wonder, if this is how they treat customers when the economy is tight, how do they treat them when business is booming? I do NOT recommend this company. BUT, if you decide to do business with them, I'd advise you to only deal with their Sales/Decorating Consultant (Melinda Campo). She seemed consistently honest and competent.
