It went well. The dying tree was cut down, removed and chipped. Other trees were pruned. They cleaned up afterwards. Nice people to work with. I've been having my trees and shrubs taken care of by Damon and I wouldn't to any other arborist. He has many degrees in tree care from OSU. Mariano did an amazing job pruning the Japanese maple.

They provided a good quote for the job. They are professional and knowledgeable. Their emphasis is on saving trees and that is a good thing in the local market. While we did not use them for this job, we will consider them the next time we need work done.

I am a return customer and was once again really pleased with the work done. Damon and the crew were professional and courteous; the job was well done and the job site was left impeccable after completion. I was quoted a maximum amount (up to $680 for the job) and ended up being billed much less, which was an added pleasant surprise. I wouldn't use anyone else in the future thanks again and see you in 2 years! :)

Treecology showed up on time and reviewed the work that needed to be accomplished. The workers were friendly and courteous and discussed amongst themselves which workers would do what work and anticipated how to fill "empty time" so a worker would not be standing idle. (For example: not have a worker just stand there looking up at the tree when the limbs were being dropped. Instead, that person would go out and run the chipper). We did experience some downtime as the first chipper quit working and needing troubleshooting. A second chipper was brought to our house so the work would continue. My wife and I helped bring limbs and branches to the guys that were running the chipper to ensure that everyone could finish the job as quickly as possible (my wife even provided homemade cookies during the lunch break which was a small token of our appreciation to everyone). These guys work hard and certainly anything that we could do help, we were glad to do. At the end of the day, when discussing the final billing hours, I expressed that I did not think that having everyone stand around troubleshooting the chipper should be part of the bill and Treecology agreed (which I very much appreciated). I did find that if an issue arose, Damon and I were able to discuss it, and determine a mutually agreed upon course of action. I also think that a sign of an excellent company is determined from any problems that arise and how those problems are addressed. If I needed another tree to be removed, I would not hesitate to call Treecology. They did a great job removing the tree (which was complicated) and was able to do so in the time their estimate stated it would take. If you do have a tough job, definitely call Treecology.

They gave me a bid of $2300. I thought it was really good. He's very knowledgeable. We took him around from tree to tree and he pointed certain things out that were of concern. He gave us the bid which took him 10 minutes to get together there. He said that we could do all these things now or we could put it off until next summer. He told me that it would be preferable to do some of these in the summer. He's trying to make it simple so that it could work.
Description of Work: Treecology gave me a bid. They will be putting certain trees. Some trees need to be removed. Others need to be treated for the season. There's definitely a lot of trimming.

General comments: Damon arrived promptly at the scheduled time for the estimate discussion. He listened to my concerns about the tree and made helpful suggestions. I picked Treecology to do the job over 3 other tree trimmers, although his estimate wasn't the lowest, because he recommended a less radical treatment of a problematic large branch than the others. The others recommended cutting it off; Damon recommended pruning to lighten the load on the branch, followed by watchful waiting. 2 days before the appointed day I received a postcard from Treecology reminding of the appointment, urging that I remove all items from the work area that might be damaged or get in the way, and to notify neighbors. Damon arrived precisely at 8am on the appointed day, followed within minutes by his crew and the truck and chipper. He and all crew members were wearing Treecology logo T-shirts. He introduced me to the leader and other members of the crew and we went over the scope of the work, then he left. As work progressed one or another of the crew members would check with me about anything requiring a major judgement call. Damon returned about 3 hours later just as the crew finished up cleaning up. We reviewed the work to assure it was done to my satisfaction, then I signed off on the job and gave him a check for the balance due. (I had paid a 20% deposit on initial signing of the contract.) I give a B on Price simply because the Treecology estimate for the job was not the lowest. Specifics: On the Norway maple the crew selectively trimmed in the upper canopy to allow some light to get through to the lower canopy, as well as dappled sunlight to the deck below. They cut off or cut back on branches reaching near the house and over the house rain gutters, trimmed branches back from the nearby garage and cleaned out dead wood from the understory. Where branches of the maple had grown into the two laurels the crew trimmed all 3 back to put some daylight between them. One of the laurels, in the back corner of the yard, had several intertwining heavy branches, as well as branches overhanging a nearby wisteria arbor in my yard as well as the yards behind and to the side of my property. The crew took out the intertwining branches, trimmed bace to leave about 3 feet clearance from the arbor, and cut back branches reaching over the neighboring yards. On the other laurel, toward the front corner of the backyard and near both my house and the neighbors, the crew thinned back branches reaching out over my roof and other branches reaching near the neighbor's house. On the red maple pruning was done on the problematic branch so neatly that it was hardly noticeable.
Description of Work: Trimmed 4 trees in my backyard: a very large and mature Norway maple; 2 sprawling multi-trunk laurels; and a 7-8 year-old red maple.

This was a wonderful experience. I discovered that a house I was selling had major issues with the sewer line running from house to road. The yard was heavily wooded with multiple beautiful old trees. A city permit was required for the major undertaking to replace the pipe, and I couldn't get the permit without a plan to do the work without damaging the trees. I had a cash buyer and wanted to move fast on the repair. These guys were fast! They developed a plan that passed muster, worked with the city on one occasion to expedite the permit, and did the cleanup fast. They were amazing! This wasn't a simple project and we were on a tight timeline. I'd work with them again in a heartbeat.

Treecology/Mr. Schrosk completed all the work to our full satisfaction. He and his crew were punctual, easy to work with, very focused on doing the work properly, and quite efficient in completing the work. At all times they were careful not to damage any part of our property or that of our neighbors, and the cleanup was thorough. Once work began, Mr Schrosk decided to utilize a crane for removal of the largest (and least accessible) tree; this had been discussed as a possibility. He arranged for use of the crane quickly and this part of the work was also completed as originally scheduled. The completed pruning was as we expected, visually and otherwise. We are very satisfied with the work done, the way in which it was done and the all-around professionalism of Mr. Schrosk and his crew.
Description of Work: We purchased this home in mid-2012, knowing it was probably overpopulated with trees of many different types, age and size. My wife is well-versed in horticultural matters, including trees, and even she felt the property required selective thinning and that it had also numerous trees needing extensive pruning. We interviewed Treecology, along with three other recommended companies, (1) to determine what trees might be diseased or pose a safety risk, (2) to determine what trees needed outright removal, and an order of priority to this, (3) to determine what trees required pruning and to what extent, (4) how best to proceed with the suggested work vis-a-vis Lake Oswego regulatory requirements, and (5) what the cost would be for the various parts of this, as well as for the package we might determine to complete. Treecology (D. Schrosk) provided an extensive review based on this, in our mind better than all but one of the other companies, and discussed its conclusions/reasoning with us in great detail. In this Mr. Schrosk listened to our views, concerns and answered our questions directly. The Treecology bid was not the lowest but it was competitive and provided flexibility for work we might feel also needed once the work was begun. The final cost included removal of two trees over 30 ft in height and a third (damaged) tree well over 40 ft, as well as extensive pruning on three other trees. Additionally he provided good advice as to how to work efficiently with Lake Oswego's permitting process and officials. All debris was cleaned and removed after completion of the work.

Damon came out to assess our Big Leaf Maple and Oak trees. He spent quite a bit of time explaining everything about how to maintain these trees and answered all the questions in our Inquisition happily and professionally. We eventually went with another company's bid simply because they could do the work sooner.

Treecology was recommened to me. Damon came to my house and gave me an estimate. They were more expensive than some other estimates, but they knew what they were talking about. Damon explained everything that needed to be done, and more importantly, WHY. It was very evident that he understands trees. I have a beautiful tree in my yard and I didn't want someone who didn't know exactly what they were doing to work on it. They came and in one day had everything trimmed. They also brought a wood chipper so there was no clean up required. I would absolutely recommend them. They are worth it!

Total bummer of an experience here. I called to get an estimate on a Florida Dogwood that I have in my backyard that needs pruning and an overall evaluation. The number listed was answered promptly, but they cannot schedule you from that number and didn't give other pertinent information, such as the company's $360 per visit service minimum charge. I was told the arborist would contact me later to make the appointment. After a morning of phone tag with the arborist the next day, we were finally able to connect. At this time, I told him I wanted to prune the Dogwood to try to control the fungus it has. He informed me of the company's minimum charge, which caused me to balk, because I just had 2 small diseased trees removed and stumpground, another Dogwood pruned, and a wall of Photinia pruned for the same amount. We chatted for a bit about the fact that I was hesitant to have the other company come back out because I knew they were scheduling more than a month out and I had some concerns about the pruning that was done. We also chatted about how much we wanted to respect each other's time and I didn't want to have him come out if I could not afford the work. In the end, he expressed his concern about the tree needing additional services and assured me that I would get my money's worth, so I scheduled an appointment and estimate for the following Tuesday at 1030am. Unfortunately, no one showed up to give me an estimate. Nor did anyone call. Let me assure you that I did not make an error in the date/time of the appointment - as I had only one morning off work during that 2 week stretch. Let me assure you that there was also no doubt that the appointment was set - I was asked to contact the arborist back at the phone number he called me from if there were any changes I needed to make to the scheduled appointment. There's no excuse for a no-call/no-show as a professional.

Treecology was one of only handful of companies that thought they could do the job and, after talking to them on the phone, I received a quote of $125 per hour for an estimated 3-4 hours of work. However, a quote based on a telephone description sight unseen made me feel uneasy as a.) the quote was not in writing, b.) the owner, Damon, had never even seen the site, and c.) there was a good chance that the cost for the grinding could balloon significantly once I had already committed to using Treecology. So, I decided that it would be best to cancel the appointment with Treecology and I started looking for other quotes. At this point, I started to receive weekly phone calls from Treecology asking me to reschedule. I called back and asked them to come out, look at the slope, and give me a written estimate (a request that I did not think was unreasonable for a job that would cost upwards of $500). I was told again that the price would be $125 an hour and they would not come out. During this time, I eventually just asked the company that was building the retaining walls to remove the stumps. However, in the month between the initial canceled appointment and today, the phone calls from Treecology continued to come (starting once a week and increasing to twice a week) asking me if I would like to reschedule the appointment. I am at a loss as to how to they can justify the constant repeated messages and calls about rescheduling the appointment when they couldn't even come out to look at the site (I live in inner NE Portland, so distance wasn't an issue). I have found this to be annoying, unprofessional, and a huge waste of my limited time. I would not consider them for future work.
Description of Work: I had 8 tree stumps that needed to be ground down in order to make way for series of retaining walls on a steep (45 degree) slope. The stumps were behind a 3 foot retaining wall and most companies that I talked to told me that they would not be able to access the stumps with the equipment that they had because they were elevated and on a slope.

We're sorry you were unhappy with our communication. Our notes indicated you originally accepted our estimate, and our office assistant believed she was trying to schedule you all along. She did call repeatedly in order to conclude our business. We understand at some point you decided not to use our services, but we were not aware of that as you chose not to return any of our calls. As soon as you returned our call to cancel, we stopped trying to contact you. As for not giving a firm bid, Damon explained why he wasn't willing to do that. We give firm bids on stump grinding if we are already bidding a removal job and do not pursue stump grinding separately. We have a professional relationship with a stump grinder who does that for a living and we do not want to step on his toes. You were referred to us by him because he couldn't get his machine to the stump. Ours goes anywhere. We often refer work back and forth with him. It is understandable if you didn't want to use our services, but we didn't get a message that you had made that decision.

My yard was a disaster after the December storm and I lost a significant amount of branches from my fir and magnolia trees. I had an estimate for all the work, as well as what options I had for one of the fir trees which suffered major damage. They gave me different options along with costs for the one tree. I decided to keep the tree as this was a little bit lower in cost, and it may come around in a few years. I had to schedule quite a few weeks out since they were so busy, and mine was not an emergency. They did an excellent job getting my yard to look a little more normal when they were done.

The whole process went quite well! I contacted Treecology since I had used their services before and was quite happy with their work. Damon arrived right when he said he would and asked what I had in mind for the job. I told him my goals and expectations and he described how he could accomplish them. We then set a date for the work to be performed. Confident that my wishes would be respected, I didn't feel the need to be onsite and was able to work a full 8 hours on the day of the pruning. I arrived home that evening to a trimmer, healthier, more neighborly tree, one that will continue to provide much-needed summer shade without taking a toll on my house. The crew cleaned up after themselves and left my yard looking better than when they started. All in all, it was a very positive experience!
Description of Work: A volunteer maple tree in my backyard had grown too big for its location. It provides welcome shade during the summer months, but needed major pruning work to get it off the porch roof and out of the gutters.

There was a stump in the front of the house in a planter in my retaining wall. Amazingly they got the grinder up there and got the stump. I was very happy about that. Then they removed a small juniper tree that was against the foundation of the house. That went wall also. They also did a very good job trimming the large trees in the back yard. However, when they removed the large branches from the back yard they dragged the full branches along the side of my house leaving damage to my siding. One part of the siding was torn off. When I complained, Damon was nice and offered to repair the damage to the bit of siding that was torn off. He offered to nail in with finishing nails and put some paint on there. When he came to nail it he did not use finishing nails, he used regular nails with big heads. He also did not paint the area as he said. I told him that I was not happy with the way that he "fixed" the problem. He also denied ever telling me that he would use any paint to cover the now exposed wood siding. I told Damon, that his work was unacceptable and I wanted to give him another chance to get it right. He proceeded to get very emotional and unprofessional on the phone with me while giving me excuses about how busy he is. At that point I also got a little emotion and felt offended. He finally came back and replaced the nails with finishing nails and destroyed the piece of siding in the process. There is still no paint. Now that corner of my house looks very bad, plus the scrapes and scratches down the length of the south side of my house.

I had several tree services, including Treecology, evaluate the trees on my property for overall health and pruning. Damon at Treecology is very personable and spoke calmly but passionately about trees, their value, and his approach to maintenance. Their prices are in the middle of the group I called. I setup an appointment for him to evaluate and estimate the service. He came on time for that appointment and spent lots of time discussing our trees. At the same time, my neighbors had him evaluate their trees too. When it came time to setup the appointment for the actual pruning, that took longer than I hoped to setup. Call backs weren't right away. But once we settled on a date, he and his crew showed up and did the work faster than they anticipated, so they offered to do more pruning than we agreed just so I got my money's worth, and I did.

When I called, I talked to Damon directly. He was able to come out next-day for a free estimate. He apparently knew what he was talking about and had the lowest estimate, so I hired him for the job. He even did the work on Friday, even though they usually don't work on Friday's, just so I could be present. I hired them only to down the tree. I would do all the clean-up. They were here less than two hours, and nothing was damaged.
