Stone Creek Building and Development

We've been looking at doing a remodel of the back part of the first floor of our house, as well as replacing siding and windows. While gathering quotes for siding and windows, we were referred to Stone Creek Building for the remodel part of our project. We met with Mike Short. Mike came to our house, was on-time and professional in his appearance and demeanor. We walked him through what we were planning on doing. He took measurements and offered suggestions for where to make changes. We met with Mike a few weeks later to go over the basic plans for the remodel and to look over some details that we didn't address in the first meeting. Mike was very thorough in the proposal and then offered to quote us on siding and windows as well. He returned a few weeks with an updated quote reflecting the siding and windows, and gave us updated pricing for some changes we talked about making. Even though we chose to go with another contractor, it is not a reflection of Stone Creek Building or Mike. Mike was very thorough and we feel he went above and beyond in guiding us through the project. When it came time for us to decide on who to use, we chose another company because of some unexpected expenses that came up (furnace is going to need to be replaced) and we felt that we were willing to sacrifice project length for expense. We ended up choosing a contractor that we were already familiar with knowing that the project would take longer but while still maintaining the quality that we expected with Stone Creek. When we get ready for the next remodel, we will gladly contact Mike and Stone Creek Building for another quote as we feel that they are trustworthy company and that Mike is a stand up guy.

Our initial impression of Mark Bierwagen, President, Stone Creek Building and Development, Kalin Beirwagen, Vice President, and Sean Leanders, Construction Supervisor, was some what favorable. They are all seemed nice, affable people. However, that is the extent of our positive experience with the Stone Creek Building and Development business. My husband, Fred, is a retired, licensed and bonded general contractor, ( C.C.B. # 8095) with over 40 years experience in residential construction. We hired Stone Creek to build our final home because of age and health issues that discouraged us from doing the work ourselves. The project did not go well because our concerns about their building practices seemed to go unheeded. We were assured our requests for corrections were addressed but later we learned they may not have tried to fix things at all. Fred has spent weeks and hundreds of dollars repairing framing and underlayment, straightening walls and floors himself (back trouble and all !). In his opinion, in all his years of building homes he had not seen such poor construction. We believe Stone Creek Building and Dev. uses inferior subcontractors and touts them as top-quality. We are extremely disappointed in the work that was done, lack of communication, and in their philosophy of "making the customer happy". They seemed very defensive when we saw problems and asked for corrective measures. In our view, we apparently insulted them by calling the work "shoddy". If you are new at building a home , be more observant. Look at the details. Are the walls and floors straight, plumb, and level? Be sure to check your plans to see that everything you expect is there and installed correctly. Do not take for granted that your builder is really looking out for your best interests or checking the quality of their construction work. They are on a schedule, want to make money and move on to the next project. Mark worked hard to provide a very detailed bid. He incorporated our unique needs and went out of the way to research some potential complications. The final bid was very clear on what each component of the work contributed to the overall price. Throughout the process Mark was pleasant to work with, punctual, and communicated clearly. In the end, we chose a different contractor for the project, but if our priorities had been slightly different, Stone Creek would have been our first choice. I encourage including them in your contractor search and have every reason to believe that their work beyond the bidding stage would also be of high quality.

They quoted me $350,000 for the home construction. They were very personable, responsive, easy to work with and easy to talk to. The company owner, Beirwagen, was very helpful and accommodating during the bid process and worked closely with us and made the process go easy.

We could not have been happier with our new home building experience with Mark and Kalin of Stone Creek Building. This was our first time having a new home built from scratch. So we were very grateful for the patient guidance of Mark and Kalin throughout the months long process. Stone Creek was on board early in the project and helped sheppard the building design and permitting process through a difficult timeline imposed by our financing company. Throughout the project, Mark and Kalin exhibited excellent management skills and resourcefullness in dealing with the subcontractors, suppliers, and the vagaries of the northwest weather. We would hire them again in an instant.

After interviewing many builders, my husband and I were happy to find Mark Bierwagen with Stone Creek Building and Development. He was recommended to us by our construction lender who had worked with him on several projects. Mark is a knowledgeable and competent builder while also being personable and respectful to his clients. Mark was very mindful of our budget and helped to strategize solutions when the inevitable homebuilding issues came up. He was flexible and also made sure we maintained quality throughout our project. We were very happy with Mark and Stone Creek Building and Development and we LOVE our new home!
