Square 1 Electric

He arrived right on time! He explained any questions I had very clearly. He was a hard worker. He cleaned up after finishing a project.

They responded quickly and had an estimator come out. He gave me an idea of cost and was quite pleasant. However I never received a quote by email about cost and a time reference about the length of time it might take to complete the job. I emailed them and they said they would check with their estimator and get back to me. It's been a week and I haven't heard back from them. This is, unfortunately, the second contractor to flake out on me.

This was my third time using Square 1 Electric. I first used them to replace all of the outlets in my new-to-me home. They installed one GFCI outlet in each room, and changed out all of the light switches in the home. The second time I had them come in, they ran electric to a new dishwasher (there hadn't been one in the home before) and as a last minute request during that appointment, they replaced the kitchen lighting for me (switched out a chandelier type light for a track light). On this third and most recent appointment, I had them come in to install a bathroom vent fan (where there was none before) and also as a last minute request, I asked if they could install an exterior electrical outlet. They've always been very good about working with my schedule and the guys have always been nice and courteous. The only downside I've noticed is that on two of the occasions they came in, they made small unnecessary holes in the wall/ceiling when trying to find the right place to run wires, etc. They did not offer to patch these holes up (but then again, I didn't ask). I would hire them again for any future electrical work.

Talk about your stellar service. Kurt, the owner, hopped on the phone with me and gave me enough ideas to finish a problem I had created for myself installing a GFCI outlet. Their quoted prices were less expensive, and they were more responsive than any of the other folks I talked to.

I got a call just before the schedule time, said contractor was in traffic, would likely be 1/2 hour late. I was told the tech would call before heading my way. 1 hour later still no call. I had to cancel. I had other plans that afternoon. I "might" give them another shot, only because they are somewhat local. But really? Can't make an appointment for a bid on time?

Our electrician, Robert, was wonderful to work with. He was courteous, kind, and resourceful in dealing with the limitations of our home. The cost seemed a bit high. I was told by a friend that he paid $4,000 for upgrading the lighting for a whole house. We had only four rooms done, but that included about 20 lights and electrical outlets--so he did a lot of work in those four rooms. I would recommend this service to anyone who is seeking a quality job. What a difference new lighting has made to our home. It completely changed the look and even elevated my mood. Light is a wonderful thing!

showed up at 7am and were done by 11am. We had bare wires because of these nasty rodents. I'm surprise they weren't electrocuted to death. I sent them a photo before they came out and they arrived with all the necessary parts. Also, had them rewire my kitchen light in about 15 minutes. Very friendly and professional,

Original appointment for Monday but somehow lost in the computer. Rescheduled for Thursday. Tech arrived fifteen minutes early. He found the wiring and hanger ok for fan installation. Did the job in 20 minutes. He even told me which switch plate to buy so he wouldn't have to charge me for the time to get one. It cost $2.99 at Loews. My only complaint is that he charged me $50 for a permit that cost them $14. Holly, who was otherwise very helpful, told me that there were a number of things required to get the permit. On the website I found the permits can be purchased online. The five minutes for entering the job information on the permit website doesn't seem to be worth $36 but she said it was the cost of business. Maybe so. Bottom line $149 with Angie's List $99 coupon for advertised $179 job.

Was on time (even early). Worked quickly. Very satisfied with outcome. Would use again.

The work was fine. They came once, and then they had to come for a follow up visit. They are very good. They did everything we wanted them to do, they were helpful in making recommendations in what we needed to do. We had bought a light fixture overseas, and it needed some changes to adapt it to our system here in the US, and so he was very helpful in explaining that to us. Once we had those changes made to the fixture, he came out and took care of it.

The experience was pretty good. We got two bids to do the work. One came in $600 and one came in $800. Square 1 Electric had special on for 4 hours for $450. We went with that special; however, in the end we almost ended up paying $800. The guys were good. It was freezing cold the day they were here. They worked like good fellows outside and tried to get everything done. They were hampered a little bit by the cold because they were half frozen. They did a nice job with what we asked them to do. They were other things that they suggested that might be something to do in the future; since we ran out of time & moneywise and we had to pay extra because it took longer than we expected. They came pretty quickly when we called. They kept saying that they were dropping the screws, so we told to give us some discounts as it was taking more time and they gave it. They were really cool and couldn't feel their fingers. The pricing was pretty competitive with similar companies in the areas just from the bids that we got to do the same. They were kind of in the same ballpark. When they were installing an outside light, their hand was cold that they dropped the bulb; but they replaced it. They worked under really difficult circumstances and kept working along.

That was done and it was done well. I had them do a dimmer switch, box extension work and installed a new thermostat. They left me a credit for an hour and a half. One technician, Ray, came out and scheduling was just fine. They came when they said would and were commutative due to the snow storm in Portland. He also brought a vacuum cleaner and cleaned up after himself too. He was that perfect mix of professional and polite, but not the point of to much chattiness.

Excellent work and very professional. We purchased a two-hour Angie's List Big Deal and were prepared for it to take longer. In the end the cost was higher than we expected. It would have been nice to have been informed about how much the work was going to total before it was done. However, again everything was done very well and to our satisfaction. The city inspected and approved the work. I would ask for a full estimate prior to having any work done in the future however I can recommend Square 1 Electric without hesitation.

They were prompt to respond and was honest about the fact that the job could not be completed for the price paid.

They still have the fan we purchased and we have nothing for $180.00.

Square 1 Electric had installed a ceiling fan last summer for me. Robert was the electrician and I really thought he was professional and did the installation well. I had never used Square 1, in fact I hadn't heard of them but I needed the fan installed, they offered a coupon, so I purchased it. After that experience I kept looking for other coupons they might offer to see if I could use that service. They offered a coupon for an electrician for 4 hours, so I didn't think twice and purchased it. I am not an electrician and I seem to accumulate enough electrical projects where this service would be well used. I called to set the appointment and the scheduler assigned Robert to this project. I was delighted. Robert arrived 'right on time' which was 7 AM as I am an early riser. He came in, I showed him what I was thinking of doing and what I had purchased for him to use. He then indicated I had purchased the wrong kind of cans-cans for new construction instead of cans for preexisting built houses. I then had to go purchase the right kind. Got those home and they were the wrong size. Had to go back one last time and I finally got it right. The 3 new cans in the kitchen/nook area added so much more light it's hard to believe what a difference it made. And the under counter lights...terrific! AND unlike another electric company (Eagle Electric) I had hired to install a new electrical panel (before I knew of Square 1) who left a big dusty, dry wall mess afterwards (you don't want to pay my kind of wages to do cleaning that electrician said to me!!!) Robert brought out his handy dandy small shop vac and the small amount of dust and debris was gone. Completely 180 degree different attitude than Eagle Electric. I don't hesitate at all referring my family, friends, clients and colleagues to Robert at Square 1. He is THE BEST! I think if I could change anything it might be that somehow I would have had a discussion with someone who knows more about electrical than I do before the day of the actual appointment. Before I purchased many wrong items taking a lot of my time, would there be a way to have a pre appointment consultation about what I should buy? It could be part of the coupon cost, but it might save in the long run. Robert said he was happy to go with me so I would know the right items to purchase and maybe next time I would do that as I wouldn't have spent so much time ahead of the appointment buying the wrong items. This isn't a Square 1 issue, it's just that when you have an electrically challenged purchaser (or plumbing, or whatever kind of contractor where I am knowledge challenged) it seems there might be a way to bridge that learning curve a little better. Square 1 is top notch.

Our tech, Robert called ahead before he was on his way. On time. We received the service as we expected. Highly recommend. We definitely will use the service again.

I think the work done by Square 1 Electric was kind of a rip-off. They charged a lot for a light we saw. They charged this weird fee for just plugging something in. The whole thing felt like a shady deal, to me. The installer seemed to be nice enough, and he did a good job. The original light they brought us was some rinky-dinky thing. He asked me if I wanted an upgrade, so he went to Home Depot and got the upgraded light, which was more of what I thought I had ordered, in the first place. And it was a huge jump in price. I have had no problems with the new light.

I loved the service and I have used him again.

The service was excellent, from the moment of initial contact to the service. Every thing was excellent. If I need any more work done I know who I will be calling.

It was great and I love them. We have used them a couple of times before. I was not only impressed with the electrician, but the office always returned my emails. They are a little expensive, but it is worth the value of the service. They got the job done in the 2 hours that the deal covered. The scheduling was very easy, and we did it all by email.

The big deal was for an attic fan. When I called to set up a day and time, I found out what I wanted was a whole house fan (to suck the warm house air into the attic) not an attic fan (sends the hot attic air outside). Square 1was very nice in explaining the difference. They later did some other work and they were great!

Ray and Nate showed up on time and got to work. They never asked me for ANY tools, ie. (flashlight, drop cloth, towel, etc.). They came equipped with everything they needed and got right to work. They worked steadily all day. They made recommendations for future projects and took charge of the current project. They were pleasant and left the house as neat as when they arrived. I have spring projects that I will call Square 1 back for. I would request Ray and Nate again.
