went pretty well, but could have gone better. The electrician had to saw the ceiling to fit the fan and left cut marks in the ceiling that we have to spackle and paint. Other than that, everything was pretty good.

Our experience with Square 1 was great. It started with a call to ask about an estimate for the services. Given the nature of projects I had they provided an estimate of the time required over the phone and confirmed their hourly rate for services. They answered all of my questions regarding what I should purchase versus what they would supply which allowed me to be ready for the work. We booked an appointment and the electrician showed up right on time. He called ahead as well. The work done included installing a ceiling fan with light, installing multiple dimmer switches, installing a new door bell, replacing two exterior lights and installing two overhead light fixtures in the garage. With a quick walk through the electrician was able to confirm the phone estimate and then got right to work. I was a bit worried about paying by the hour, but he was very efficient and professional. He actually finished up all of the work in less time then the original estimate. Great experience and I would definitely use them again and recommend them to others.

When I went to schedule the install I was informed that the big deal did not include all charges. I was told that there is a required permit that would be an additional cost. My problem is that if you know you have to charge an extra fee for a permit than why would you not disclose that in the fine print of the big deal or even better build that additional cost into the big deal and charge just a bit more. As well this caused me to ask additional question about this being a fixed price. As it turns out the $99 was for a specific amount of time and if it were to run over than it would be an additional cost. So at the end of the day I paid a flat fee to have a ceiling fan installed where there was already an existing fan in place only to find out it was not a flat fee it was a totally open ended contract. Who knows what I would have had to pay! My advice is to avoid Square 1 and do what I did, which is hire Mikes Electric. Mikes did a wonderful job and were very honest and upfront with their fees.

Dave was very nice. He checked my electric panel to see if the breaker could be replaced and found that it could not. Fixing my problem would require re-wiring my entire electric panel, which would take much longer than 4 hours and cost much, much more than $399.

I bought Angie's Big Deal, $399 for 4 hours of electrical services. I have two tasks to be completed: install outdoor motion detection light and add a three way switch in the garage for the porch light. Dave, the electrician came on time. I told him what I wanted done. I specifically told him that I want the light to be installed at the corner of the garage and showed him where I want it to go. He didn't question it, so I thought he understood. Three hours later, I went to check how it was going. He said he the light is done and is starting on the three way switch. I went to look at the light. I was surprised that the light was not installed at the corner I told him to install. He installed it in the middle of side wall of the garage, which is basically useless. The purpose of a motion sensing light is to sense people coming. Installing it on the side wall, the motion detector can't sense people coming. I told him that the light need to be out in corner or close by the corner so it can sense people coming. So he have to install another fixture in the front wall of the garage. So basically, he has to start all over again. It ended up taking 6 hours to install the light. I had to pay the extra 2 hours. And the second task was never completed. The total charge comes to $721. Needless to say, I'm upset having to pay over $700 to install a light, something that I could probably do myself with the help of the Internet. I hate to give bad review, but the more I think about it the more p***** I am having to pay so much for something that is so straightforward.

This was the second time we've used them. Called them the day before Thanksgiving with a fuse problem. They arrived within a couple of hours and they found a solution to our problem. The electrician was very upfront about our setup and gave us a couple of options. We will use them again.

We purchased a Big Deal for a complete re-wire of something like 1,000 sq. feet. First they couldn't get to us for more than a month ( I wish businesses wouldn't run Big Deals if there are already busy) so Kurt came out about a week or so after we purchased the Big Deal and looked at our property. We discussed that we wanted the whole of our house re-wired which was larger than the 1,000 sq. ft for the deal. He went through looked at everything and discussed everything I wanted and how I wanted to see the bid. Kurt sent a bid within a few days. For the next nearly 3 weeks I tried to get a hold of Kurt to discuss the bid and make sure the number I was seeing was a "not to exceed" as we had discussed. The day they are set to start work the two guys working on our house show up. Clearly the older guy is in charge of the younger guy telling him where to start and so forth. So I mentioned to the older gentleman that I had tried over and over and over to get in touch with Kurt and wanted to go over everything before work began so that there was no confusion on what was to be done and what everything would cost. Well about two days after they started work then they (Kurt) was trying to increase the price drastically. We got in an argument because it truly felt like a bait and switch, which was exactly was I was trying to combat and was rather suspicious that he couldn't return any of my calls during the 3ish weeks prior. It took them much longer than they anticipated and Kurt kept pulling them off to work on other things and at one point left us with out appliances for two days because they were meant to come back in the evening to hook up our stove, but Kurt left a message that they were busy and needed to get home to their families and such. That was annoying since my family was with out a way to make a meal at the time. All that being said we were able to come to an agreement on price. It was quote a bit more than the original quote but it was something we were willing to live with. Since they wrapped up we had a few issues with flickering. We thought this was do to the drywall folks lowering the light fixtures from the ceilings however, it continued when we installed new fixtures. Then it began to take about 10 seconds between flipping the switch and the lights coming on, then eventually the lights just wouldn't come on at all. I contacted Square 1 on a Wednesday and they told me they couldn't get someone out to look at it till Tuesday. I was all nope not ok, so they got me someone on Thursday morning first thing. I am glad I insisted because during the day before I called I thought it was just the kitchen , but in the evening we found out it was the power to the hall, bathroom, bedrooms and living room. They knew right away what the issues was when I described it and got it fixed with in about 30 minutes. So I give them credit for that. All in all I would say they did a good enough job, but all the issues were a headache enough that I most likely wouldn't use them in the future.

I was able to get them out same day for a quick visit at end of day to fix the problem and make sure it was done right.

The service people arrived on time -- replaced my broken fan very quickly and removed the old fan. It all went smoothly -- I'll work with Square 1 Electric again!

Great...this was not an easy job.We had several companies look at it to give us an estimate.They had a difficult time figuring out how to do the work and they were more expensive than Square 1 Electric. From the appointment for the appraisal, to the actual work, everything was handled very professionally. Loved Ray's humming and whistling to let us know he was there....great group of people working for this company!

They didn’t show up when they were supposed to but they redeemed themselves. The worker was sick; they let me know and contacted me. Once they got out here, they came out the next day. They did a really good job. He actually gave me a discount on the 2nd light fixture.

When I called they had a cancellation and came out in 30 minutes. I had the fixture new in box and the switch I was told that because they pulled a permit I had to put a timer on the system I offered to go purchase it. The installer came and told me that it worked but would not shut off he blamed the switch. I did not have time to go get another as I had to go to work I offered to exchange it and reinstall myself this was not the right thing to say. The next switch did not work either I had to wonder about the wiring. When I called that day to have him come back and finish/fix it all was fine he cam the next day brought his own switch and charged another 120.00 service call for a total of 498.00 for the job. I did complain and that department just left with no adjustment just explained how it was really my fault. They did call back and refund half of the second service fee. This was very much appreciated they do care about the customer being satisfied.

Square 1 communicated exceptionally well about the project. The estimator realized after the visit that he had forgotten to check the direction of ceiling joists and immediately called me. We agreed that placing the fan in the ceiling might be tricky, and the installer and I eventually agreed on a wall fan with ducting existing through an exterior wall rather than the ceiling. (Flat membrane roof, no joist gaps, etc.) The different fan increased the cost somewhat but the solution was much preferable to and cheaper than penetrating the membrane and bringing a roofing company into the equation. All work was completed in about five hours, which included trips to pick up the different fan and some hanger brackets for the new duct. Running the wiring required making several holes in the drywall. The installer plugged the holes neatly, and I spackled, textured, and painted the surfaces. Easy. All in all, a very nice installation job handled by very attentive and courteous people from Square 1.

Everything went well; arrived on time and performed work in a timely manner.

I wish there had been more explanation in the ad that a roofer would need to cut the hole in the roof. They informed me of that, and then we played phone tag for a while to get them to come out. They were willing to help me, though, and they came out here for free. When they found that my job was different from what they offered, they gave me another company that can do the work. He was very nice and helpful.

Electrician did work in fully professional manner

I specifically had the estimator of Square 1 Electric come over to see the job site and to give me a bid. That bid was high but the estimator explained to me that bid is the maximum $ for the job that I should expect to pay and it's not to exceed that amount. That in reality, if the electricians would finish sooner, the bill would be less. When the electricians came to do the job, they worked very slow dragging the time, then they still finished the job in less time than was was quoted on the estimate, so I expected to pay less. As it turned out they billed me 58% over and above of what their original bid for that job was. It was a shock to me how somebody be so dishonest to do business. When I tried to resolve this issue with the estimator, he was giving me lame reasons to justify their 58% over billing. He was pushy, demanding of a full payment, and the owner had threatened me to send the bill to the collections agency on me. I paid them only per their original bid. I was shocked of their dishonesty and horrible customer service skills. I would never use them again.

Excellent job, with virtally no damage to walls or ceiling -- no plaster repair was needed. The installer was very knowledgeable and competent. The cost was less than the estimate, both based on time and materials.
