They did what we had asked them to do, but they were up front and let us know that down the road in so many months our furnace was going to "kick the bucket." They were on time and honored the price they quoted. It was just a really good experience with them.

This was a very satisfactory experience! When I called the company, they were able to schedule me for the next morning and I received a phone call in the morning, telling me the technician was on his way. He arrived in the early part of the 2-hour scheduled appointment window. Jerry was very thorough in checking out the furnace and answered all my questions. When I mentioned that I did not have replacement filters available, he went to the store to buy them and when he returned, he showed me how to put them in the furnace properly so that I could change them myself in the future. He also told me that my furnace needed a "fire cap" and arranged to have the office call me later to schedule that appointment.
Description of Work: Yearly furnace maintenance, cleaned interior, checked the meters and connections, replaced filters.

I would highly recommend them to everyone. I will keep them in my phone book to service all my HVAC needs in the future. I have plans to renovate the entire house and will use them to help my address duct placement. It appears that the pricing is right. I thought for $889 I got a lot done. Thanks guys! I am ready for winter and summer!
Description of Work: As a soldier I am often in training and deployed all around the country and abroad. I happen to be in training in Virginia when I bought a house that was in need of repairs. I was concerned about sending a person I had never met to work on my house. Additionally, I was concerned for how he might treat my mother. However, the technician explained in detail what was affecting my furnace and what he had to do in order to fix it. I personally appreciate knowing the who, what, how, and why so that I can prevent it from happening again. He explained that when the basement was finished off, the contractor had boxed off the furnace without providing proper ventilation, which constricted the airflow and functioning of the furnace. Ultimately, this would have caused the furnace to burn out. Secondly, he found there was too much gas being fed to the furnace causing poor efficiency, which was costing the previous seller additional cost to heat the house. Thirdly, the previous owner had cut out a vent in the furnace, which was reducing the pressure of the furnace and dumping heat into the room that the furnace was in, basically heating itself and not the basement. He added a duct that brought the heat into the basement, cut out vents in the room, so that the furnace could breathe and tuned up the furnace. Lastly, I had the AC serviced, which the technician found a leak. The leak was fixed and the AC unit was serviced.

We needed to replace our oil furnace this winter. We arranged to get 3 estimates. Jason at Service Now was the quickest and most responsive. Made an appointment with us immediately and was a very thorough and professional person. He provided 3 different levels of quality/types of furnaces that we could use to replace the old one. He answered all of my email questions almost immediately (even when it was 10:00pm) and in detail. Jason investigated if the choices we had qualified for a tax credit and if they would work with Biodiesel. Basically he did a lot of leg work to investigate every question that we had and was always upbeat and helpful. He never made me feel like I was an annoyance with all my questions. Once we booked the job his crew was installing our new furnace in less than a week. They did a great job and were very friendly and forthcoming with detailed information. Then after completion Jason completely filled out and submitted a rebate form on our behalf so we got a little bit back which was awesome because I never take care of those rebate things before the deadline.

I am writing this only 2 hours after I first called! The person on the phone was excellent, scheduled Frank to come out within an hour, and Frank had the furnace repaired and working - and tuned up to be more efficient - in another hour. Really terrific service.

Treat yourself to Service Now in 2010 if you have any HVAC needs, large or small! From the first phone call and first visit and quote from an owner to the completion, Service Now was a great experience. Every e-mail was answered promptly, great attention to detail, and the responsiveness and friendliness of the entire staff was excellent. There were a couple of communication errors that inadvertently caused a remaining hot water handler to shut off and cost a trip by the plumber (contracted by Service Now - Steve Ackerman of Ackerman plumbing - good work, nice guy ). This was taken care of without charge, no questions asked. Also there was a tiny gas leak (covered by NW Natural) found after the installation. In retrospect that is one thing I would have liked to have been done differently. I would recommend the installers have a meter with them like the NW Natural rep to check the gas connection at the time of installation. The electrician they contracted was quiet, fast and left the situation for outside electrical access better than before. I didn't like the first thermostat I chose and they offered options and changed it, then fixed a cosmetic problem to make it more flush to the wall. At every turn I felt they wanted me to be completely happy with the result. The area was kept clean after every visit. The initial quote was competative and stuck to what I needed and asked for (unlike a few others). There were no surprises and the final charge was the same. It wasn't more than the other 3 places I had bids from, but if it were, it would have been worth it . Even though it had nothing to do with their work, when my duct problem was found they found the fastest, cheapest solution and barely charged me their cost. They came on my schedule, on time, and well done in every aspect. It was a stressful situation to have this happen in the heat of summer, and they all did an excellent job. Many thanks to you all, Jason, Kurt, Frank, Billie, Steve and Tim (and any others). Service Now exceeded my expectations. This is a high quality organization at every level.
Description of Work: Remove existing, non-functioning heat pump, replace with high efficiency Carrier air conditioning unit, remove existing Polaris hot water air handler with high efficiency Carrier handler. Trouble shooting and repair of a blocked return duct was handled beautifully. This problem was identified after the installation was promptly addressed and handled at at a very reasonable cost, even though pre-existing. Their duct specialist created a duct on site to fit the unusual space and situation to improve air movement. This project involved indoor and outdoor, crawl space, duct work, and the paperwork and addressed envelopes for rebates were included.

Kelly Padden arrived at date/time agreed upon, rerouted the line in record time. General Manager Kurt Wakefield spent inordinate amount of time successfully convincing city inspector & gas company to quickly complete inspections, while another SERVICE NOW employee Jerry Kell arrived as scheduled to do his part of the job. Good work, and premises left in spotless condition. This company lives up to its name ? ?Service NOW? ? and I will definitely recommend them to my neighbors.

It went great. I had four Angie's List companies bid the work. I chose Service Now because they were not just proposing replacing old with new, but were willing to have their tech provide some engineering solutions to balance problems. Their sales representative, Jeff, stressed that satisfaction was guaranteed "with no surprises." I was a little skeptical, but that is exactly how they approached the job. When the job wasn't quite balanced correctly, they volunteered to to rework the job so we didn't have hot or cold spots. They were prompt, cleaned up and their work looked great. Very neat and presentable. Their tech, Kelly, is comfortable to leave in the house and gave great advice. I would definitely recommend this company.

When I called, and told the person what the problem was, they recommended that I have a full gas tune up instead of just a service call, since we had not had one in several years. This way, I would get a tune up as well and find out what was wrong. the tune up of course costs more than the service call, but I thought that was good customer service to recommend that and also, then I wouldn't have to worry about getting a tune up later. It was easy to get an appointment with them and they came within the window of time that they said they would. I was pleased that the employee had a pump with him in this vehicle so that he could change it right away.

We just purchased a 1957 home and found that the electronic air filter was not working. Jerry arrived on time and walked us through the use and cleaning of the electric air cleaner. It was determined that it would cost much more to repair the system than to update the system with something more functional and maintenance friendly. Delivery of the new filters were verified and a delivery and set up date was determined before he left. While Jerry was there he looked at the furnace and verified everything was working properly. I asked him to look at some of the ducts and return as the condition appeared to be poor. He not only provided a name of a duct cleaning company but called and set up the appointment right then.

Excellent process. Frank arrived very late on Friday afternoon as a result of an earlier service job that was more complicated than expected. I feared he might try to hurry through my job in order to get started on the weekend. That was not the case however. He took time to explain the purpose of annual maintenance on the furnace and told me NOT to put electronic filters in the dishwasher (as instructed in furnace manual) because it causes wires to break and necessitates a new purchase much more quickly. He checked and made necessary changes to furnace settings in order to increase efficiency and reduce monthly heating bills. I was very pleased with his service and will use Service Now Heating and Cooling again next year.

We were glad to have Jerry again as our technician, and he did a wonderful job of installing a furnace filter door for easier access and more efficient filtering. He even taped extra carefully around any incisions made to assure that we would not be greeted with sharp duct work when changing the filter.

The lady who answered the phone when I called to schedule the bid was not the most professional I've ever encountered; however, when Jeff came to do the bid, he explained she had had a difficult day and had been a bit confused. He was apologetic (unprompted!) and very professional and nice. I was very impressed with Jeff and his proposal; it was a difficult decision but we ultimately elected to go with another company. There was no follow-up after the initial bid was submitted.

They were right on the spot. They made a mistake when they were giving us the estimate and we were able to get the job for less than they originally contracted for. They actually subtracted the price that they originally contracted the work for, because of the mistake. They are adaptable. They were right in the line with the prices. I have not had any trouble with their work. I think that they are a fine outfit. They were very efficient and they took good care of me. I give them all A's for their service.

From Kat (Charles' wife): We contacted six contractors -- three Carrier and three Trane -- to give us estimates on installing a heat pump to replace our inefficient hydro-heat system. The folks at Service Now were very quick to respond, and they were the first company to send anyone out. Jason, the owner, came out himself and was very friendly and helpful; he quite willingly took the time to explain the system and to answer all my questions about heat pumps, efficiencies, all those numbers, etc. He didn't try to sell us the most expensive system and wasn't hard sell in general. I'm giving the company a B rating over all, though, for two reasons, which were pretty important to me: 1) Jason didn't examine the house much. He stuck his head up in the attic (where the current system was), but didn't go all the way in. He didn't examine our electrical box or the side of the house where the heat pump would go. He did not do load calculations, though he did ask the square footage. 2) His estimate was not very detailed. It was handwritten, which was in and of itself not a problem, but it only described the work generally instead of item by item. The estimate was, however, pretty much in line with what the subsequent companies quoted for similar systems. We did, however, go with a different company, and I have to say that Service Now was the first cut from the list for the reasons I mentioned.
Description of Work: We did not choose this contractor.

Response from Service Now Inc. Heating & Cooling
Unfortunately, this customer has us confused with another company because during the initial visit we did in fact crawl in the attic to inspect and measure everything necessary, checked electrical box/breaker, and did not hand write this customer’s proposal, but emailed our standard/detailed proposal on Sunday August 9th at 8:39pm. We were happy to spend 2 hours in customer’s home answering questions so that our email that followed listed specific equipment sizes, options, brands, price etc. Therefore, must have confused us with one of the other 5 estimates, which was surely an honest mistake.

Jason Johnston was our contact throughout the project. He was very helpful in explaining various options and in choosing the most economical equipment that would meet our needs. On those occasions when other of our people got involved in any of the discussions, he was patient in repeating information he gave me earlier. He was very cooperative in adding provisions to the contract which we felt were needed. The installers were friendly and competent and completed the work well within the timeline we had set even though they had to stop work early one day due to an unexpected event in our building. They did a good job of cleaning up each day and at the end of the project.
Description of Work: Removed 2 old (c.1965) electric furnaces from our church building and replaced them with 2 new variable-speed electic furnaces with strip heater kits. Also installed 2 high-efficiency heat pumps (utilizing old ductwork) to add cooling to our system plus programmable thermostats.

My Realtor recommended Service Now, and gave us a printed estimate from Jason, our contact person. Upon reviewing the estimate, I called Jason to ask questions. I was very pleased with his professionalism, salesmanship (he presented the benefits of his company), and his willingness to answer my questions. I asked Jason if Service Now operated on Saturday, and he said that they did, if the appointment was made at least two weeks in advance so that they are able to ensure workers are available. On July 3rd, my husband and I emailed the estimate back to Jason with our selections for service, asking that the work begin Saturday July 18th and finish no later than Monday July 20th, per my conversation with Jason. The total estimate was approximately $8,500.00. We had no contact with Service Now between July 3rd and the date the service began, except whatever contact Jason might have had with our Realtor. On Friday July 17th I received a call that the crew was at the house. I was surprised, because I was expecting them on Saturday July 18th. When I asked if they could come back on the 18th, they said the workers would not be available on Saturday. They were very patient as I drove back and forth across town trying to get the keys to the house (we'd only gotten the keys a few days prior, and my husband had them with him). Although they were ready to begin work at 8:30, work didn't begin until approximately 11am because of the delay in getting keys. While I was somewhat annoyed by the situation, I appreciated the crew's patience (Kelly was the foreman), and they were still able to complete all the work in one day. I can understand how the scheduling miscommunication might have occurred, since our Realtor was involved in scheduling the work and he might have communicated something different to Jason. While I should have called a few days in advance to confirm the date and time, Service Now could also have called a few days in advance to confirm, so I'm not letting them completely off the hook for the miscommunication. :) The quality of work made up for the scheduling snafu. We are very pleased with the furnace, water heater, and air conditioner. A small rhododendron had to be removed to install the air conditioner on the side of our house, and one of the crew members had shovel in hand to do that extra work. Despite the delay in start-time, they finished the installation by 4pm, were friendly, professional, and competent. When I dropped off the final check at their office to complete our payment, they provided me with all the rebate paperwork for the high-efficiency furnace and explained the rebate information in detail. Over-all, I'd say this is a competent and trust-worthy company, and I would hire them again. Thanks!
Description of Work: They installed a high-efficiency furnace, water heater, and air conditioner. I purchased a new home this summer, and as part of the sales agreement we wanted to install a new furnace and water heater. We also decided to install an air-conditioner, since there are discounts offered when the AC is installed at the same time as the furnace. The home seller agreed to pay $2,000 toward the total cost, so please bear in mind that the total cost for the service was approximately $8,161.00.

Jeff came to my house to look over what needed to be done and said I'd have the bid within a few days. He seemed very knowledgeable. I got the bid about a week later. I was going to have them do the work in August, but I had a gas leak soon after deciding to hire Service Now, so Service Now did the work within a few days which I really appreciated. There were 2 vents in the floor that were cut too large for the vent register, so they came back and corrected the problem and put in larger registers. They were very responsive to concerns I had.

First I was told on the phone that they don't come out to quote "jobs that small", then I was given a really random quote. When I called back later the same day, I was told a quote several hundred dollars higher than the first quote. I commented that the difference between the two quotes was pretty substantial and that I hesitated to schedule the job based on such varying information. I also mentioned that every other service provider I've used from Angie's List (a lot - I have an old house) were happy to come out and give me a quote. The surly response was something about how he'd check with his boss and have someone come out to give me a quote. I never heard back from them. Needless to say, the job went to someone else, who performed the job for much less than even the original (lower) quote. I called Service Now to tell them I was going to be using another provider and was showered with profuse apologies for "forgetting" to have someone call me. The sad thing is, I loved this company just last year when they sent Frank out to fix my furnace. He was great - too bad the rest of the company isn't as diligent and customer-service oriented as he is!

Update as of July 27, 2009: Service Now called to clarify various things about the previous visits from their technicians. They agreed to replace the motor in my air conditioner and not charge me for the labor, which wasn't covered in the warranty. I appreciated their quick response to my complaints and the time they spent explaining things to me. I had the motor replaced today, and the air conditioner seems to be functioning quieter without the noise that was experienced before. I still feel that one has to ask questions and make sure they understand what is being explained when it comes to heating or cooling systems. But I was satisfied with the final outcome with Service Now.
Description of Work: I purchased an air conditioning unit from Service Now several approximately 2 years ago. I originally purchased an air conditioning unit from Service Now several years ago. They assured me it would work fine for my home which is 2600 s.f., even though the unit was tiny. After using it for awhile, it was obvious it was not cooling adequately, so I called and they replaced it with a much larger unit, for which they gave me some money off for that unit since it was slightly dented. I had it serviced last year, and mentioned there was a strange sound coming from the unit. The technician said it wasn't anything and not to worry about it. Then this year, I again mentioned to another technician that it wasn't sounding right, and he said it was from debris on the front of the unit, which he cleaned and it did seem to stop it. But it returned, and now a 3rd technician came out and verified there was a vibration that shouldn't be in the motor and said he would put in a request to replace it. I asked why the other two technicians didn't say the same thing, and he said very few technicians are trained on the Carrier Infinity, that it's a very different type unit than others. I do think that any technician that's sent out should know about whatever unit they've sold to a customer and it's up to the company to send someone trained on that particular unit. This situation could have gone on until my warranty was out and then I would have been responsible for replacing the motor, which is apparently very expensive.
