The tech that arrived about half hour past his appoint was aimiable and sought to tell me everything he was doing. He showed me the air filter and briefly turned on the AC to check temperature. Outside he showed me the parts of the unit (I haven't ever had AC before) and where the coils are that need cleaning. He hosed off the coils, although there was still quite a bit of dirt, but didn't see this until it dried and he was gone. He spent about 20 minutes at the house, most of the time explaining something to me or hosing off the unit. And because the dirt left on the unit, not sure I would call them again. Because I'm unsure, I indicated yes, I would call them again.
Description of Work: 15-17 point AC inspection and very brief cleaning.

It went very well. The technician was very helpful and nice. He showed me how to take care of the filters in the furnace. He explained that if we had allergies (which we do) it was very important to clean the filters frequently and thoroughly to help remove the dust that irritates our allergies. I was very please with his work and will use this company again in the future.
Description of Work: The technician came out and inspected our furnace and air conditioner. He cleaned the filters in the furnace and air purifier and explained that they should be cleaned once a month. He showed me how to take them out, clean them and then put them back. He was very thorough and helpful. The air conditioner unit needed refrigerant which he provided.

Well, first off I was highly impressed with the service tech, Frank. He was extremely polite and when I shown him where the furnace was located, before showing him how to get to the A/C unit, he immediately spotted this white powder on top of the furnace and coating the exhaust pipe. He explained what it meant and offered to do the furnace tune up, as it appeared to need it and since he was already there. I agreed, because we've lived in this house for two years and had never had a tune up done...and I could be pretty sure the people we bought the home from hadn't, either. As he disassembled the furnace parts, cleaning off the dirt and build up, he explained the function of the different parts and even told me what to watch for as the furnace aged. He also disputed what a previous tech from another company had told me (I'd been told that most furnaces need to be replaced at around 15 years). Frank said that it's closer to 20-25 years when they're maintained properly. Unlike the other company's tech, I never felt like I was being prepared to spend lots of money in the very near future. Frank was polite and was very willing to share information, and suggested that I always question suggested work and sales hype. It's common sense, but you don't typically hear it from a company who provides sales and service. After he finished with the furnace, he serviced the A/C. He allowed enough time for everything to come to their working temps, and by doing this, I wasn't pushed into buy freon that I didn't need. Initially the temps between the two parts he was measuring (the unit and a pipe connected to the unit), had a huge difference between them. Periodically he'd check the temps, and still there was more than 20 degrees difference, but he just let it run a few more minutes and sure enough eventually the two measured only a 20 degrees difference, which apparently was the magic number. Initially he was thinking I would need to pay for a pound of freon, and maybe another company wouldn't have allowed enough time to really check the system which would have me paying for something I didn't need. But because Frank was more interested in doing what was right for the customer, and in doing the job thoroughly, there was no rush. And in the end, that saved me money. He then explained how to keep the outside of the unit cleaned, what to watch for, including to know to check the breaker in case the unit isn't working. So what started out as a simple A/C tune up became so much more because of his conscientiousness and customer service. Earlier this winter I got a company off of Angie's List to fix our furnace, and that man was nice. But I didn't get the same feeling of trust with that man as I did with Frank. And because of the care that Frank puts in his job, I will now only use Service Now for all our future heating and cooling needs. Dang. I sound like a commercial. :-)
Description of Work: Paid for a A/C tune up through one of the Angie's List Big Deals, and while he was here, had him do a tune up on my furnace.

Our old oil heater (1956) stopped working on a night it snowed. The next morning we called Kurt and Jason at service now, and Kurt offered to send a technician out to see if we could first fix our current oil furnace before trying to make a sales pitch about upgrading to a new gas furnace. The technician arrived on time the same day and thoroughly examined our old unit. After identifying the part that needed to be replaced, we decided to upgrade to a more energy friendly gas furnace because the part for the old unit was cost prohibitive. Jason sent us a detailed e-mail explaining 2 different options, advantages, prices, rebate amounts, etc. We decided to go with the variable speed option and the installation crew arrived on time the next morning to start the process. The crew was very friendly and kept our house spotless taking a lot of care while they were working and completely cleaned up after themselves each day (2 day installation), they even signed for our wine club shipment from UPS! Kurt was excellent about keeping in touch with us each step of the way to keep us informed about what was going on and where we were at in the process. I had a lot of questions and Kurt was always able to give me the answers I needed and was very patient and curteous, making me feel very well taken care of and reducing the stress of the whole situation. At the time of payment, I had a few more questions about how the rebates worked and was informed by Jason that his wife handles the paperwork, reducing even more of my stress. I can't say enough good things about this company. They truly made a potentially stressful, time consuming situation as easy as it could be. Service Now provided excellent workmanship, they're honest, and offer great customer service. We love our new quiet, energy efficient gas furnace!

I first contacted Service Now in late August 2011 when water was leaking from the HVAC unit in my basement. My husband suspected the condensation pump was broken, which I told the service technician. The technician said the pump was not broken and said I needed to replace the filter, which I did that same day. On a side note, the technician was very unprofessional during te service call and told me about how he had been fired from previous jobs, etc. Over the course of the next few months, the water continued to leak intermittently, but no problem was identified, despite a second visit (and service fee) by Service Now. In late December, I finally called a second company (Wolfers) to evaluate the problem and the Wolfers technician determined the condensation pump was in fact broken. The leaking water is no longer a problem, although my new high efficiency furnace now has some rust from the standing water. I contacted Service Now and was told the technician obviously made a mistake. I was never offered a refund for the service call fees. I can see that the company has received many positive reviews, but I had a very bad experience with this company and cannot recommend using Service Now.
Description of Work: Service Now visited my home twice in August and September 2011 because of leaking water from the furnace/HVAC unit and never determined the cause of the leaking water.

Response from Service Now Inc. Heating & Cooling
Our first visit to this member's rental home was for a high efficiency gas furnace tune up in January 2011. (The furnace had been installed five years prior for the previous homeowners) At that time, everything checked out fine and there were no signs of a water leak. They called back during the hot weather in August of 2011 because the air conditioning was not functioning and there was water leaking on the furnace. At that time, our technician found the air filter was dirty. It appeared to have not been changed in the eight months since our last visit (it should be changed or at least checked every 3 months, a common problem with rental homes) and had caused a build up of ice in the air conditioning coil above the furnace. That buildup of ice caused water to overflow down onto the furnace when it thawed, due to overloading the drain system with water. Her husband had thought that the condensation pump was the problem, but was unaware that the pump is downstream from the drain system (mounted on the floor) and would have simply caused water to collect on the floor, not on the furnace. We tested the pump at that time and it pumped the water properly. The member then called us again two weeks later to report water leaking on the furnace, at that time we sent a technician out and he replaced a PVC drain fitting that cracked due to the icing of the coil, he again tested the drain system, there were no leaks and the pump operated properly. Three months later in early December 2011, we received a call that there was water on the floor and we were asked to coordinate an appointment with the tenants. The tenants re-scheduled with us several times and then never called back. We let the property owner know that we had not heard back from the tenants. Apparently, the condensation pump had eventually failed causing water to leak on the floor and they had it replaced by another company

Purchased a high energy efficient furnace in 2003 and never had a "annual service" yet, so took advantage of Service Now's Angie's List special of $84.50 for this service. The appointment setting was at my convenient time (8am) and Service Now's van arrived promptly at 8am! Frank introduced himself and before starting work, asked if I had any questions or concerns. I didn't have any, so Frank started right away. I was around the area when he was working because I was curious and as Frank was performing specific task, he would not only explain what he was doing, but why it was important. He showed me a couple of things I can even take care of myself if I have trouble, without calling him such as changing one of the fuses. I really enjoyed him showing me all the components of my furnace and his expert knowledge and all the areas he checked, made me feel confident that my HVAC is working at optimal performance. Frank was not only professional, but also personable, build a rapport with me when I was there. Would highly recommend Service Now!

They did a really good job and were very personable. The person who came out was very friendly and informative. He told me exactly what he was doing, and I liked that. He wasn’t on time, but he wasn’t that late either. I used the Angie’s List Big Deal offer for the work; $100 is a lot of money for the work they did. They stuck a sticker on my heater, so they will probably be the ones I call in the future.

I bought a coupon for the service. It was fine but it was more like a sales pitch to get a new furnace. They were on time. They called me because I hadn't used the coupon yet. The owner called me himself to see that the coupon didn't expire and that is a very good thing. The price was great and they did really good work. I might use them again with a coupon, otherwise, probably not.

The cost was a little over $600. The experience with them was good. They were very thorough and very prompt. They were good to work with. Their timelines was good. They were timely with the appointment time and they were here at that time. The explanation that they also provided about the service that they needed to do was really well thought out and easy to understand. They were good. They weren’t expensive but it was the going rate anyway. They were comparable in terms of price and so they were good.

Please see above Do not accept something as their word, he said I was GOOD TO Go!!! He should have saw the faulty circuit board on the first trip!!!! Maybe he knew that he would need to be alled back out and be able to charge me again!!!! I would hope not.
Description of Work: Yes, I call Them out in October to look at my furnace, tell me what it needed and have it good to go come winter time. Winter came and now I am using it and it does not work correctly. Tech came back out and looked at it, said i needed a new Circuit board and ignition switch, you could see where the board overheated, but it is the same problem I had before and not something that just happened, something that should have been found on the first visit which is why I called them to start with, I had told them of my problems, (that the furnace does not stay on and shuts off on its own) when they came out in October. When he left me in October after paying 150.00+ he said I was good to go, and should have no problems, WELL MY WIFE SURE LET ME HAVE IT WHEN WE Finally STARTED TO USE IT AND IT STILL Didn't Work!!! o the tech came back out told me I needed a new circuit board and new ignition switch and said it would be 700.00+, I said okay at first but then I got more and more mad because this should have been done the first time and I would have gladly paid to get it done right the first time, so I then said forget it... I would see what the parts cost elsewhere etc.... but I still had to pay again for another service call, to be told something he should have told me the first time, So long story short, I have paid over 200.00+ and sill do not have a furnace that works... I am a reasonable man, I want nothing for free and will gladly pay for the proper service, but I do not like being charger-ed twice and still have a problem, just be sure you know what you are getting and ASK IF THEY ARE 100% certain that you re GOOD TO GO!

Response from Service Now Inc. Heating & Cooling
This member called Service Now on October 17th stating that they had installed their own thermostat and were having problems with the furnace after that. We quoted our standard diagnostic fee and dispatched a technician out first thing the following day. The technician rewired the thermostat and cycled the furnace. He recommended that the 18-year-old furnace be tuned up and cleaned. The member declined that service and said they may consider a service in the spring. The member called us back on December 12th stating that the furnace was malfunctioning; we scheduled the same technician back out that day. We once again quoted our diagnostic fee since the furnace had been operating for two months and we warranty our diagnosis for 30 days. During this visit our technician found a faulty circuit board and ignition control ( this is not uncommon for a 18 year old gas furnace) we quoted the repair price and recommenced that the furnace be replaced due to the age, condition, and cost of repairs. The average lifespan of a gas furnace is between 15 and 25 years depending on the model and how well it has been maintained. We cannot guarantee that any appliance will be "good to go" for an entire heating season without any problems, especially an older appliance that has not had regular maintenance.

Our relatively new house came with 2 cheap, inefficient Goodman furnaces. One furnace went out just after the 5 year warranty expired. I called Goodman, and they wouldn't help me at all. It would cost more to replace the computer board than the furnace cost originally. The other furnace was likely to go out too at some point. We got an excellent bid from Jason to replace both, so we went with an efficient Carrier model with a 20 year warranty. We started to run into a number of problems with these furnaces right away. They kept going out on us due to some kind of safety switch malfunction and they would exhaust really bad smelling fumes. Jason sent his technicians out repeatedly to try to fix them. They were always prompt, and tried to repair them. After a number of weeks of this, they decided to just replace both of them with a new model of furnace that just came out that was even more efficient but more costly. However, I didn't have to pay any additional. Now, I feel I have two very high quality furnaces that are running perfectly. I know the problem we encountered was due to the equipment, not due to the installers, and I felt they did everything they could to ultimately arrive at where we did. I always felt they were concerned and supportive throughout this whole experience.
Description of Work: We had both of our propane furnaces replaced for better, more efficient ones.

I attempted to contact Service Now when we woke up to a furnace blowing cold air last Sunday.. I immediately went to Angie's List to find a company to come and repair whatever the problem was. Service Now was the first company I attempted to contact because of their high ratings, favorable reports and because they offered emergency services. I tried calling their number twice and both times received a message that I was being transferred to dispatch. Both times I waited several minutes with no answer. I found a second company with high ratings and was able to connect with them. After reading Service Now's response I have to take issue with their comment that they were sorry that I was unable to get through in my expectation for a timely response. So waiting for several minutes with no response or pickup is what they would call a timely response? Perhaps they should check with their answering service to see if they are adequately staffed. I think I have a reasonable expectation for response times and I think the length of time I waited to talk to someone was more than reasonable.
Description of Work: Service now advertises emergency service, 24 hours a day. Called them when we woke up to a furnace blowing cold air but there was no answer by their dispatch service. Tried twice and both times got a message that my call was being transferred but waited for over 10 minutes with no pickup. They should not advertise emergency service.

Response from Service Now Inc. Heating & Cooling
Service Now contracts with an answering service to field our after hours calls. They are based in Oregon and filter out unwanted solicitations and nuisance calls that would otherwise distract our technicians who are on call and performing our emergency services. This is a common practice by HVAC companies. It was very cold Saturday morning, there was a high volume of calls coming in, and therefore there was a wait to get through to schedule a repair. We performed many emergency repair calls that day and regret that this member was unable to get through in a timely fashion as they had expected.

Our heater was blowing cold air when we got up in the morning. It was around 32 degrees outside that morning (figures!) and the house was cold. We inspected the heater to see if there was a blown out pilot light or something simple we could do to fix it. After about an hour of playing around with it we check out businesses in Angies list. This company was close to us and highly rated so we placed a call into them for service. The guy there told me that they were "slamed" but he could get someone out later that evening. We got a call around 5:30 pm telling us the tech was held up but would be there in about 45 mins. He showed up and after hearing our heater issue he immediately took a look and told us the problem. A new part was installed and we were back up running hot air! He gave us some great tips on the care of our heater and told us the gas was turned up too high and adjusted it down for us. He told us we have been wasting about 20% of the gas due to this. So he saved us money in the long run and we learned how to spot this issue if it ever happens again. The part he installed should last us at least 10 years he told us. The heater was installed in 1995 and needed a good cleaning which he did for us. We purchased the coupon online for $84.50 which covered the service charge (they recommended purchasing the coupon when I called). The tech was friendly, fast in the repair and very helpful in the tips he shared with us on taking care of our heater.
Description of Work: Dianostics of heater issue, installed replacement parts, cleaned burners and heater interior, adjusted gas flow, and showed us what to look for if this issue comes up again in 10 years.

The technician who came to do the Big Deal servicing thought he found the problem with my forced air gas furnace, which was going on all the time, but not producing any heat. He returned the following day to install the part he thought was causing the problem. Alas, after several more days the problem continued. I called the company again, and they suggested that another "fresh pair of eyes" come and look at the problem. The second technician found still another problem, with the circuit switch, and indeed when that was replaced, the furnace again was back to functioning normally. In all three visits, the technicians were prompt (indeed the office was great in promptly scheduling prompt appointments), friendly, and seemed very competent. They cleaned up whatever small messes they made. The person I talked to on the phone was very sympathetic and helpful each time I called. On the third visit the [new] technician said that I would only be charged for the new part, and not for the labor/service call. I appreciated the fact that everyone I dealt with at Service Now was intent on seeing the problem resolved, and did everything they could -- and in good time, as the weather was turning cold -- to make the situation right. I would definitely use them again for any heating problems I might have. In addition to the Big Deal offer for the servicing/tune-up, they also gave me a 10% Angie's List discount for the other calls.

They were very nice and customer service oriented. I ended up not using the Big Deal because they told me to turn off my furnace and not use it at all due to the leaking of carbon monoxide. I told them that I was interested in getting a new furnace. Since they seemed like a good company I decided to go ahead and buy a new furnace from them. I spoke with Curt and he emailed me 4 options. I picked the 3rd option which was a 96% energy saver furnace. They were able to drop off some temporary heaters since they could not come out until Saturday to install.

They were able to come out the next day. I had to change the time but there was no problem. The tech was great. He found the small problem and had the heat going in minutes. He told me I may have a problem down the road with the igniter, but did not push me to fix right then. At my request he gave me some suggestions that I could do myself to fix a cold air return duct. Great service. Nice people!

Purchased Angie's list coupon for the furnace check up. This was for a vertical wall unit in our tenant's apartment. Scheduling was simple, no wait for an appointment, and they came on a Saturday which is much easier for us working folks. The technician was punctual and professional - and while we worried that they would tell us this old furnace needed to be replaced, he actually said it was in fine shape, just old. He cleaned it throughly and pronouced it good to go, leaving us feeling much more confident about the aging appliance. Always nice to deal with service people who do what they say, arrive on time, and are pleasant. Keep up the good work!

He missed the windo of time quoted He did not give a phone call to let us know when he was coming He was a very nice man. He didn't know how to use the digital thermostat and neither did we. we asked him to put the old Honeywell one on he said the other one was better we told him it dooesn't shut off. he set it it didn;t shut off and got real hot we found a way to bypass the automatic and s*** it off we had an electrician from another company change out the thermostat We asked him to check the dryer connection he was unable to give feedback - he said the area was covered with insulation so he doesn't know if it was coonected. This was not blown insulation, but just the pink stuff.
Description of Work: checked the furnace showed the turnoffs hhe was uncomfortable working the digital thermostat and instead sent us online.

The appointment was set up for the following day. Though the tech was running about 1/2 hour behind schedule, I did receive a phone call to advise me of the situation. The tech was professional and quickly determined what was causing the problem. He provided some recommendations on program settings which was very helpful. Though this was not a complex or complicated issue, I appreciated the prompt service and professional service.
Description of Work: We had just purchased and installed a new programmable thermostat that was not operating properly. After reviewing some of the comments on Angie's list for various contractors, I contacted Service Now.
