It was a no hassle installation. No high pressure sales pitch. They were so easy to work with it was refreshing.
Description of Work: Removed a two layer roof. (1st layer shake, then felt, then composite). Since my roof didn't have plywood, they added plywood. Repaired Eaves. Then added a new roof with vents.

It was a simple maintenance project and they did it well. I am board chair for my condominium association and we have used Bliss roofing for about ten years. The first job was a re-roof project that was originally begun by another company and then completed by Bliss when the first outfit went out of business. Bliss does all the roof cleaning and maintenance here and likely will for years to come.
Description of Work: Re caulked vents and fastened down some flashing.

I received 5 bids from roofing companies regarding re-shingling my 800 sqft home. My existing roof was pretty rough, so I wasn't sure about a full tear off or replacement shingles. Most companies recommended the tear-off option and bid anywhere from $5500-11,000! However, Greg at Bliss, actually counted layers of roofing and inspected the existing roof and let me know a tear off was not necessary. To be sure, he asked me to take a picture inside the attic, which I did. Indeed, I did not need a full tear off roof, but just new shingles. Not only did they have the best bid out of the 5 companies, but they did not push me into work that I didn't need. I really appreciated their honesty, especially when another roofing company was particularly deceptive in their bidding process (starting with $11k bid, with several follow up calls offering to drop the price a little bit each time, which seemed pretty slimy and dishonest. I'm in sales as well, so I know that game and am not interested.) Greg was responsive to my questions, gave me a heads up a day before the job began, and followed up on the job after. Their crew was polite and on time (I only saw them when I was leaving for work in the morning), and they cleaned up after. It also looks like they were kind enough to not disturb all the landscaping around the property. Overall, I am very pleased with Bliss, Greg, Kaitlin in their office, and their crew. I would hire them again, and have already referred them to friends.
Description of Work: Installed second layer roofing over existing roof. Basic Landmark architectural shingles from Certainteed.

The rep (Sam, I think?) arrived on time and was really nice. He checked out the flashing and said things were fine - it was likely just extra materials that were left over because nothing appeared to missing. But he noted that my gutters were full and I had quite a bit of debris on the roof from a giant tree out front. I said it had been on my to-do list for a few weeks. He got out his blower and cleared it all off for me - so completely unexpected! I will certainly give them a call if/when there are roofing issues in the future.
Description of Work: I bought a new construction last year for which Bliss did the contracted roofing. I was concerned over flashing I found in the yard after a couple storms and wanted to be sure there weren't any issues up on the roof as a result. I contacted the builder, who had Bliss contact me.

After getting several quotes we selected Bliss to do the job They weren't the highest nor the lowest bid. But their reputation for quality work and honesty won us over. The job only took 3-days. They cleaned up after themselves nicely!! This was big for us as we have a dog and did not want him stepping on any stray nails commonly left after such a project. After completion they came back for a follow up. We couldn't have been happier with the work performed!!!
Description of Work: We had a complete new roof put on.

Well, let me begin by saying that I dislike submitting anything other than a glowing review on this site. However, based on our experience with this company, I feel the need to honestly review what happened. Our builder contracted with Bliss Roofing to install the shingles on our new patio cover. Therefore, we did not go through the process of getting bids, reading reviews, etc. We trusted our builder as he had used them for the past several years with satisfaction. The workers came out and installed the shingles and 4 skylights. I don't know anything about roofing so assumed all was fine. They were courteous and cleaned up the job site well. I also asked them if they could look at the leaking skylight in the kitchen area. A worker tried to fix the leak by turning the skylight top to the bottom. This caused it too leak even heavier. He came out again on the weekend, turned the skylight back to the way it originally sat and caulked it heavily. He advised us to get a new skylight. He went in our attic to try to determine if anything else was going on that might cause the skylight leak and noticed that our insulation was wet under the valley area. This was a whole different problem, unrelated to the skylight. We asked Bliss to come out at their next available appointment to repair. They installed a metal valley. About two weeks later our finish carpenter noticed some water under the soffits so I contacted Bliss to come out to give us an estimate to repair this damage. I also contacted one other roofer for an estimate. Both roofers advised that it didn't need to be repaired until I noticed water leaking again. The second roofer went up on the roof and told me that the new shingles weren't installed as good as they could have been - there were bumps where the patio cover tied into the existing shingles. I know nothing about roofing so I appreciated his comments. I thought, however, that he might just be knocking a competitor's work, in the hopes of securing our business. After three leaks we decided to quit putting money into repairs and just re-roof. We got an estimate from Bliss and four other companies. Three of the companies were also not pleased with the way that the shingles tied into the existing roof. They said that it's not really visible from the ground - you need to get up on the roof to look at how they were installed. Instead of being straight across they were like a loose and quot;Sand quot;, kind of with a wave, which I still didn't completely understand. The fourth company didn't get on the roof to bid - they did it aerially. By this point in time, we decided to not hire Bliss for our re-roof. We choose a different company, signed the contract and the work will be done within the next week, weather permitting. What happened next was quite strange. I came home last Friday to find a Bliss roofing truck in our driveway and shingles were flying from the roof in our back yard. I asked the worker what was going on. He said he was fixing the problem to make us satisfied and happy. I called my husband quickly and asked him if he had contacted Bliss to have them do work (which I knew he hadn't based on our dissatisfaction). I did not authorize them to be on our roof for any reason. This last straw could have all been avoided with a simple phone call. If they had called and said they were coming to rectify the problem, I would have then advised them to not bother as we were re-roofing in a week or two. I do give the company credit for trying to rectify the problem, but communication is the key, and a very important one at that.
Description of Work: They came out to rectify some previously installed shingles they put on our new patio cover.

I drip of water was leaking from a skylight. From past experience I knew that many companies will not work on a steep tile roof like ours. I called them on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. This estimate arrived in the mail a few days later. We will be getting the work done as soon as our income tax return arrives!
Description of Work: They told me right up front that they wouldn't be able to help me until after the holiday. We set up an appointment for the following Tuesday. The young man arrived on time, spent a few minutes up on the roof, and told us what the problem was. We had him replace the broken tile and asked for an estimate on the other repair work that he recommended.

We asked for multiple bids and selected Bliss because they seemed honest and practical. Scott Parks completed the quote, came to our house to go over all details with my wife and myself, provided recommendations to us, and was always available during the construction work. All the staff took great pains to make us feel at home. Even the delivery staff was very polite and the roofers were outstanding. These folks are truly the best.
Description of Work: The roof was high with many different pitches and angles and was done exceptionally well. No detail was overlooked.

We had Bliss Roofing out in the winter of 2011 for some repairs to our roof. We were very pleased with their work, pricing, expertise, and all other areas. We called them back in after a little bit when a leak reappeared, and they did some patch work for us. The leak wasn't their fault -- our roof was installed by the previous homeowner improperly. When it came time for a whole new roof, we never considered going with anyone but Bliss Roofing. We were given a very helpful estimate, and they were able to tell us what it would cost if we were to only do one side of the roof, in an attempt to keep the price low. (The overhead costs like having a dumpster out there and things like that would be required regardless of the amount of work we were having done, so it really would be more cost effective to do the whole thing at once.) Our home has a 1000 square foot footprint. There were new soffets installed and fans, and a whole new roof, for $4800. We feel that is a great price, especially for our confidence in the workmanship, materials, and peace of mind that if we ever have a question or concern, Bliss Roofing will be there to support us, and not just charge us. We highly recommend Bliss Roofing and refer everyone to them.

I can only say, outstanding! We just had our roof finished yesterday, it took 3 1/2 days from start to finish in 95 degree heat. The Roofers did a wonderful job, boy and a job it was from taking the old wood shakes down and putting up the new composite roof. It looks great. Super friendly service from Scott to the 3 Roofers. We did our homework and because they are local we wanted to give them our business, I contacted some of the customers they provided in references to us to see how satisfied they were with choosing this company and had only positive feedback. We had 4 different companies out to give us free estimates and Bliss was about $2000 cheaper then everyone else. We compared each step of the roof job with the other companies against what Bliss had to offer and it was about the same, except it was less money, so the decision was made easy. Overall, the experience was great and a job well done!

Chris was great. He showed up and was knowledgeable about our concrete tile roof and how to treat it. Went to work right away and even went above and beyond as he was doing the job by asking if we would like the lead flashing painted to blend in with the roof. Which was something I had not considered ahead of time and would have bothered me down the road. He did a excellent job and did it in under an hour even considering I had him do six areas instead of just the one I mentioned on the phone when setting up the repair. This company was a referral from our home inspector Tom Island at Pacific NW Home Inspector and we would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Added lead flashing to end of roof ridges where previous owner had used tar that was degrading.

The fellow from Bliss told us he would be up to our house in about 10 minutes. It was actually 45 minutes later when he arrived. We know that for sure as one of us had to come home from work and that was 5 minutes before the time he told us he would be there. He looked over the roof and attic. He was very personable and seemed like he knew his business. His bid arrived fairly promptly on 8/1. It did not have on it the repair of the drooping eave. We had also decided to have the baffles and bird blocks done by an insulation/energy company since we were also replacing all of the attic insulation. We sent him an email and voicemail on Monday 8/5 asking him to rewrite his bid reflecting these changes and with the repair of the eave. We didn't hear from him until Friday 8/9 via email that he ran out of time that week, he was going to be out all of the next week, and he would have the bid to us on Monday, 8/19. We just felt like Bliss really didn't want this job. It sure seemed like someone else in the company could have rewrote the bid or helped this guy out with his workload since this was a fairly expensive project. We also wanted to get going on this project before bad weather sent in since our attic would be exposed. We called another roofer on Tuesday 8/10 and that is the roofer we hired. We would have Bliss come do work on our roof in the future, but we would want another person in the company to be the one we dealt with.
Description of Work: Provide bid for removal off roof including all plywood, replace all roofing, install new ridge venting, install 4 stem vents, remove and replace existing bird blocks and install 30 additional, install permanent roof anchor, install new plastic baffles at bird blocks, replace all gutters, drill holes in overframing in attic, and repair of a non-supported, drooping corner eave.

EXCELLENT! From the estimate and advice from Scott, to the crew that worked on the replacement, perfection! This was a very big project as the house has many angles and is very steep. The crew consisted of three and they had the project completed within the timeframe of 5 days. You would never know they were here each day as cleanup was impeccable! Everyone at Bliss from Scott, to the crew, to the office staff, very professional, courteous, and helpful above and beyond. You can check around for other roofers, and get estimates that are lower or higher, but you won't find another company that provides what Bliss does, and that is customer service and satisfaction. I'd not only give them an A, I give them FIVE stars!
Description of Work: Tore off and replaced our 20 year old cedar shakes with a beautiful Presidential Shake (Shingle) roof. We had Bliss for minor roof repairs previously and were so impressed that I promised, when the time came for a new roof, we'd call them and so happy we did.

All the work that was recommended was necessary and suggestions were very professional and knowledgeable. No, I did not go with them but instead went with my brother-in-law's business. Turned out my brother-in-law was not as experienced in the roof and venting design as he said he was. Bliss would have done it right the first time.

The job completed to our complete satisfaction. The crew took care to protect plants and the front of the house from debris while the old roof was being removed. The job site was cleaned up at the end of each day. All in all, a very professional job from a company that cares about customer service.
Description of Work: Chad came out the day after I called to measure the roof and we got an email quote that afternoon. I called the office for some clarification since their bid was only 52% of what another (nation wide company) had given. Chad worked up another bid, covering more work than was previously asked for, and also covering longer life roofing materials. Chad called to set up a date for the work to be done, and we agreed upon a date 1 1/2 weeks out. Chad called a week before the set date and said that a crew was available immediately if we were ready to start the job. The roofing crew arrived on a Tuesday and started stripping the old roof; their trailer and the drop box for scrap material arrived that afternoon. The crew worked through Saturday and finished the job.

A job that was estimated to take about two weeks took a little over a month. This was due to the company's unwillingness to provide adequate personnel on the job. There were a number of days when just two guys would show up for work. We were promised that this would be addressed. It was for about two days and then they went back to a skeletal crew. In addition, they operated like absolute slobs. It was not uncommon to find a micro wave in our flower beds (they use them to heat materials), power tools hanging off our roof by their cords, blue tarps in wadded up piles around the yard, roofing materials in flower beds, and power tools left in the rain over night and on weekends. We suffered a leak that caused damage to the ceiling of an upstairs bedroom (it was subsequently repaired) and a light fixture that was destroyed. The communication about the work to be performed was poor. Roof vents were hacked into a beautiful old-growth attic without consultation and without regard to location. Large blocks of debris fell into the house, narrowly missing original glass fixtures for the home. Detailed siding cuts to accommodate the original shake were ignored and a rusting portion of metal roof was completely ignored. The lead man on the job, Angel, was a very capable roofer. Unfortunately, the company for which he works did a poor job of providing him with adequate support and appropriate communication. In short, Bliss roofing did not demonstrate a commitment to quality or behave in a professional or conscientious manner.
Description of Work: Bliss Roofing was hired to replace a cedar shake roof on a house and adjacent structure. It was not a pleasant experience and we wish we had selected a different roofer.

Response from Bliss Roofing
March 11, 2013 Bliss Roofing would like to take this opportunity to respond to negative comments from Member about his recent roof purchase. Member's cedar shake reroof was a very complicated roofing job. Our estimator Chad Jackson communicated with Member that in the best possible weather conditions the job would take approximately two weeks. Member job started on January 2nd, 2013. During the month duration of the job, the weather was in the 20’s at night for a few weeks which severely delayed our progress. We are not able to get on a roof that has frost and our crew had to wait until 10 am or later many days before they could get on the roof. We assigned one shake crew, Angel and his roofing partner to lead the job and an additional crew to assist on the job. At the start of the job, Angel and his partner were on site setting toe boards and prepping the job. Member complained that there were only a few people at his job site and nothing was happening. We explained to him that when the weather was suitable to have multiple people tearing off, we would have additional workers on site. As promised, two roofing crews as well as two of our repair foreman were at the job during the tear off and drying in process. The owner of the company, Don Bliss was on site during the beginning of the job directing the scope of work. After the existing roof was removed, the new shakes were loaded on the job. The two shake crews remained on the job until the near completion and then Angel and his crew wrapped up the final portion of the work. Chad visited the site numerous times during the course of the job. While work in progress does get messy, the conditions of the job were normal for the scope of work and 100% clean when we were completed. During the tear off process the roof developed a small leak. We immediately stopped the leak and paid to have the ceiling repainted. Debris often filters into the attic on a shake roof tear off. For that reason, we include a line item on the contract that says “Please cover any attic storage items as debris can filter into the attic during the reroof process”. Bliss roofing cut in and installed roofing vents to allow for proper ventilation according to current code. The roof vents were cut into the attic just as specified on bullet number nine of the contract. Member did not like the underside appearance of the roof vents that show in his attic storage. Bliss Roofing reduced his invoice to accommodate for his unhappiness with the vents. Member's existing siding had some notch style cut outs to accommodate the old cedar shakes which were installed at numerous variable exposures. The new cedar shakes courses are installed 10” to the weather. Per Western States Roofing Contractors Associates, siding is to be cut 2” above roof surface at sidewalls to ensure proper water flow. Bliss Roofing wanted to cut the siding straight to protect the bottom of the siding. Member would not allow us to cut his siding. Bliss Roofing strives for 100% perfection and extremely satisfied customers on all of our jobs. It is unfortunate that Member is unsatisfied with our roofing job. Chad communicated multiple times daily with Member and the roofing crews. Chad was available to take Member's calls at any time and were often after business hours. The roof looks fabulous. It is a beautiful home with an intricate roof and we would have enjoyed displaying his roof on our website.

Both the estimator and the repairman were very courteous and took time to explain to us what the problems were and how they would be fixed. The repairman showed us pictures of the problems he found, and the repairs he made. The folks at Bliss are very professional, and it was a good experience for us. By the way, the leaks are fixed, as proven by two subsequent rain storms -- no leaks!
Description of Work: We had at least two leaks in our roof. The company responded within 24 hours, and the estimator was there promptly to look at the problem, including inspecting the roof while crawling around in a 4-foot high attic. He spent an hour looking everything over. The next day the roof repairman came and fixed the leaks.

The repairman showed up on time, actually a little early. I showed him where I thought the leak was coming from. He acknowledged this and went outside then came back about 30 minutes later to tell me everything was fixed. As it turned out, my roof vent had a crack. He showed me the old vent and where the crack was. Great company, I will use them again.

We went with Bliss because their bid was very competitive and they came recommended from a neighbor. We also checked out some of the reference houses they had worked on in the area. We received some more detailed bids from others that implied higher quality, but when I reviewed everything with Scott Parks at Bliss it was clear everything was on par or better. They provided a worst case estimate to cover replacement of damaged or dryrot plywood. They came in under the estimate and reduced the final bill significantly. Everything was done relatively quickly and cleanly.
Description of Work: Removed old cedar shake roof and replaced with Certainteed Landmark TL on 3 buildings, including new flashing and vents.
