+ -1 moreCommunication with our rep, Scott Parks, was excellent. His crew showed up on time and worked hard all day. They brought their own bathroom facilities, which was nice. Scott came over to make sure everything was to our satisfaction near the end of day 1. They completed the tear off and put on the 30# ATSM felt on day 1. On day 2 they came back and installed the new roof, and it looks awesome! The guys didn't speak much English, which made communication a little difficult, but if a guy couldn't understand what I wanted, he would go find a coworker who could. They were very courteous and respectful of our home.
Description of Work: Bliss roofing tore off 3 layers of old roofing on my Ranch home (1100 sq ft above ground) and replaced with CertainTeed Landmark 40 year composite shingles. I got bids from Bliss and two other roofing companies. Both Bliss and one of the companies have outstanding reputations on Angie's list, the other has mixed reviews. Bliss and one company came out about the same, the other bid was over 9K. So it was an easy choice for us.

+ -1 moreThe representative was always available and was very knowledgable. They cleaned up very well when they were finished and picked up every day when they were through. They worked very hard, even through the weekend to be completed within four days. I was very impressed with how professional they were.
Description of Work: They tore our old roof off that was three layers. They then installed a new roof for us. This was for a two story home that's an English style, it also has a very steep roof. They preformed this work for us at the end of last summer, in 2007.

+ -1 moreCrew arrived a few minutes earlier than appointment. Work was performed and completed within two hours. We were very pleased with their professional attitude and pride in their work. And, I should point out, they cleaned up everything so you couldn't even tell they had been here. I'd highly recommend them, and, when we need an entire new roof, I will definitely call them.
Description of Work: Roof was inspected due to suspected leaks. Problems were found immediately. Estimate was received and work was performed in a very timely and professional manner.

+ -1 moreBasically as I described above. The only issue was getting a good fix on when they would show up. When I made the appointment it was scheduled for sometime in the afternoon. I did have to call that morning to see if they had an idea of when they would come over and didn't get a much better fix on the time. When I did get home at 12:15 pm there was a business card left on the front door. I called and the rep. turned around and came back. Overall, I am happy with the work so far. Haven't had much rain since the repair, but so far so good. The company rep. did a good job of answering my general questions of maintaining a tile roof as well as explaining what work he was performing and why. Overall I feel good about how the job went.
Description of Work: Did some repair work. I had a leak in my tile roof where a drain vented through the tile shingles. The worker rep. (name?) came and investigated the cause of the leak. Found and described the issue and gave an estimate of the repair job ($175). I had him do the repair on the spot and he was done in under an hour.

+ 0 moreEnjoyed working with Scott (salesman). He was detailed and concerned about doing everything correctly. The workers were good and cleaned up as well as could be expected for a full tear off of shakes. Installation was excellent. Scott inspected the work as it was being done and did a final inspection when the work completed. He even called to inspect a few weeks later after we had several rain storms.
Description of Work: Full tear off of cedar shake roof. Layed plywood down and installed Presidential roofing. Replaced two old skylights in kitchen.

+ -1 moreI called and told them the type of roof we had. It is difficult if not impossible to find someone to work on this type of roof but they said they could do it. The attempt at repairing the roof only damaged more shingles. They called to follow up but we're only concerned about finding more roofing material for a more extensive repair even though we have sufficient shingles for minor replacements (about a dozen). We are left with a more damaged roof and no lead on repairs.
Description of Work: Roofer came out to repair LP Cement Shingle roof. He damaged a shingle and couldn't fix anything. We had replacement shingles for him to use, but he still couldn't do a repair. There was no charge for the non-repair.

Description of Work: I purchased a home from home builder that had approximately 30 construction defect items. One code item was that the attic lacked the required ventilation. Based on reports I contacted Bliss to have vents installed. They installed three vents in the attic and one in the gable.

+ -1 moreVery unprofessional to make appointments then to never show up without even the courtesy of a phone call, especially when prompted by the client's two phone calls. If they can't even show up to give an estimate (when they said they would), why would I ever consider hiring them?
Description of Work: I called Bliss and spoke with their 'repair manager.' I described the problem (roof leak) to the best of my ability and he suggested setting up an appointment to come out to the house to investigate the issue first-hand. We agreed to a date and a meeting time. After waiting 15-20 minutes beyond the appointment time I called the office to find out what was going on -- the repair manager was there but on another line, the secretary took a message which I asked her to give to him directly. After 35-40 minutes beyond the original meeting time, I called the office again to find out the repair manager was still there, but hadn't made any attempt to contact me to say they were going to be late or if we could reschedule the meeting -- nothing, he made to attempt to contact me at all. After 45-50 minutes of waiting for someone to show up, I returned to work without a bid and without an explanation.

+ 0 moreThey did a good job, took 3 days. Removed all old materials and cleaned up the mess pretty well. I had one issue with a toilet that indicated a plumbing pipe problem, but Chad came out and checked it out and it seemed to straighten itself out. The contract indicated that gutters were to be cleaned out, but later inspection showed a few pieces of the old roofing and a considerable amount of the 'sand' from the new asphalt roofing had collected in the gutters. Chad came out and did some 'touch up' painting on the trim, and cleaned up some items that had been missed initially. He seemed conscientious and wanted to be sure I was happy with their work. The roof looks really nice.
Description of Work: Removed old shake roof, placed plywood base & felt underlayment, re-roofed with 40 yr. LandMark asphalt shingles, replaced plumbing pipes, reflashed and replaced skylight, installed new roof vents. I had one lower estimate, one other similar estimate, and two higher estimates.

+ -1 moreI had 3 quotes ranging from $7280 to $8400. I decided on the midrange quote from Bliss because they used a 30 pound underlayment and agreed to use 6 nails per shingle instead of the customary 5 nails. Plus they were able to start my job in just a couple of weeks. My only suggestion to this company is that they improve upon their communications. Once I received the quote, I had to call them for clarification since the paperwork was confusing and misleading. I almost didn't go with them for this reason but their salesman apologized for the confusion and explained exactly what was involved. I also would have liked more communication from the job foreman. The whole crew up and left upon completion without notifying me that they were through. I had a couple of questions that I would have like answered, but all in all, the work was completed satisfactorily and the roof looks great. The salesman came out a few days later to inspect the work and he answered all my questions.
Description of Work: Tore off old roof and installed Certainteed Landmark 30 shingles with Streak Fighter and added 6 new vents for an approximately 2800 sq. ft. house.

+ -1 moreIt went exactly as I hoped (and expected) it would. I got quotes from several roofing companies and personally talked with their representatives. I checked their records at the Builders Board, Better Business Bureau, and Angie's List. Many of these companies had dismal records regarding the number of complaints. Bliss Roofing was the obvious choice. Their quote was in line with the others I received. Bliss uses CertainTeed shingles and 30-pound underlayment. The coodinator, Greg, was on top of everything. A crew of three was here for three days. Bliss had a port-a-potty at the work site as well. I have an extensive garden, and virtually nothing came off the roof into the garden. Nary even a nail could I find, which amazed my contractor next door neighbor.
Description of Work: Installation of a new roof. There was a tear-off required, two layers of previous shingles. Then the new shingles were nailed on. I opted to buy the 40-year CertainTeed Landmark Plus architectural shingles.

+ -1 moreBliss and especially our estimator/consultant, Chad, was very responsive and accommodating. The price was the low bid by several hundred and a good $6000 less than the high bid. The crew did a wonderful job especially considering how messy a roof tear-off can be and how dreadful the weather was. There was a little mix-up but as soon as Chad heard about it, he had the crew return immediately to make it right. The end result was a beautiful roof and I enthusiastically recommend Bliss Roofing. The left photo is before and the right is the after shot but before new gutters and painting.
Description of Work: Tear-off of 30 year old Ceder shake roof and replacement with high-end Certainteed Presidential TL composite. Roof area is approximately 33 squares.

+ -1 moreBliss was great about scheduling us, coordinating with our gutter guys, did a nice job of installing the anti-ponding metal, and cleaned everything up perfectly. On the roof repairs, there were a few delays because of downpours, snow, ice, etc., but as soon as they were able to, they came out and did the repairs very well and had a large enough crew to get done quickly. We are very pleased with the results. Their bill matched up with their estimate. We would definitely use them again and would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: It began as part of a gutter replacement on our tile roof. They were to add anti-ponding edging, and then discovered some alarming deficits in how our roof was initially installed (no flashing on the edges or on the ridge line, a chipmunk living under the tiles that had chewed off 40 feet of roofing felt). They fixed all the problems.

+ -1 moreIt went well that I recommended them to another friend. They were able to do it within 2 1/2 days. They had a team of 3 on the project (only one spoke English) that worked from Dawn to Dusk, even later actually. They provided me with a quote and provided recommendation for me to check out the different tiles at the company they were acquiring it from. The only issue I had was around my skylights. They had to pull the windows up and it separated my cocking and Spackle from my ceiling around the windows. They did provide me a discount on the overall cost for me to get the product at Home Depot to fix the situation. The surrounding was clean up and everything looked new.
Description of Work: Re-roofed the house with 1/2 of the house recovered with new plywood.

+ 0 moreThe job went wonderfully. Greg was our estimator and also checked the quality of the work. The bid was sent to us within a couple days of coming to look at the roof, and there was no sales-pitching or upselling. We called them in late August, so Bliss was very busy and we had to schedule the job for a month from when we accepted the bid. The crew showed up as scheduled, worked hard over 2 and a half days, and were considerate of our coming and going. They left no trash, cleaned up all debris and raked the yard. Our roof had some metal sheathing over the edges of the fourth layer of shingles, which stuck up weirdly once they were removed, so Bliss cut it down and reconstructed it, did a good job, and didn't charge extra. Every call I made was returned promptly, any changes or questions they had were communicated quickly and before doing the changes. The price was good, about mid-range for the bids we got and the communication and professionalism were excellent.
Description of Work: Tore off four layers of roofing, put new 30yr laminate roofing on. Installed three 2x2' skylights, one openable.

+ -1 moreThe worker, Augustine, arrived, checked the problem, came down and explained to me what was the problem. He showed me the offending part, I think it was like a gasket. He replaced the vent, then told me again what he had done and showed me the part again. He didn't speak very good English, so I wasn't exactly sure what he had done to repair, but he assured me that it was better than before. I was told that a bill would be coming in the mail.
Description of Work: Replaced vent in the roof over the bathroom, which had caused a leak, which caused damage to the ceiling of the bathroom.

+ -1 moreScott Parks, the estimator, was the fifth bid that I obtained in a three week period. After looking at the roof he asked me if it was leaking inside. I told him it was and he immediately went to his truck to see if he had any tar paper to patch the roof until a new roof could be installed. Scott could not believe that none of the previous roofing companies had not patched the roof. All the other roofing companies told me that they would patch the roof if I chose their company. Every one at Bliss was very curtious, very prompt, professional, and did what was promised. I highly recommend Bliss Roofing Company.
Description of Work: Our home is only 14 years old and in need of a new roof, because the high winds kept blowing it off. Bliss removed all of the old roofing and replaced it with 4500 sq ft of Presidential TL. They replaced all of our roof vents, valleys, and flashing with better quality material. The roof was installed and 6 nailed to meet Certainteed high winds specifications. The men did an awesome roofing job and cleaned up all the debri and hauled it away.

He found no leaks caused by roofing issues, however he gave me a couple different suggestions on who to call, what to do next (siding, window frames, etc) . Although I was disappointed, he couldn't find a problem (and fix it). I was impressed with his honesty regarding the condition of my roof and what to expect in the coming years until I needed a new roof. I will definitely call Bliss when it's time to replace my roof - hopefully not too soon!
