I got a rebate from the state for having this service done. Their were two men that came out and they were able to get it done within two days. They put insulation in under our home and in the attic. I did notice a difference in our home after this. They were very professional and you could not even tell they were there.

This company installed new windows throughout most of my home eleven years ago and they did a great job, so we called on them again. Two of those windows had become defective, but because they had lifetime warranties, We called Alpha Energy and they had the window manufacturer replace the defective windows. We also needed to get two new windows for an upstairs bedroom, so we were very happy to again call on Alpha Energy Savers. They were again professional and worked around our schedule to install the new windows. The only disappointment we had this time was during installation of the windows a wire from our house alarm was pulled from the window, leaving the alarm inoperable. We had to call the alarm company to repair the damage and the cost was nearly $100. Alpha Energy did not offer to pay for the alarm repair, and I was disappointed that they did not offer to do so. It won't keep me from calling on them again, but it would have been nice if they had offer to pay for the alarm repair since their workers caused the problem.
Description of Work: Removed two old upstairs windows and replaced them with two new windows.

Each of the three companies we looked at had slightly different approaches to the work that could be/should be done, making it difficult to compare. Ultimately, we went with a different company, but I don't think they would have been a bad choice.
Description of Work: One of three companies we asked to look at insulating our house. I was surprised that the guy didn't bring out a ladder, so he was left to me describing what the insulation in the crown of our roof looked like. However, he seemed quite experienced. He gave me a handwritten estimate (a bit hard to read) on the spot, but took a while to mail me a more formal written estimate.

They did an okay job. My house has shakes and it was pretty apparent that some of them had been removed and puttied over. There were a few places that I asked them to replace the shakes rather than put the old one back on. They broke one of my solar lights so they replaced that for me. They were easy to work with, they worked quickly, and they did a good job. I have no basis of comparison for the price or quality of their work because this is the first time I?ve had this work done.
Description of Work: Alpha Energy Savers installed some insulation. They had to removed the shake, put a hole in the wall, blow in the insulation, fix the hole, then put the shake back on.

I contacted 3 companies and they were all wonderful. They came out and gave different bids. They were all very experienced and very good about getting back to me. They were all very helpful and customer oriented. It was only for financial reasons that I had to put off the work. It was for underneath insulation like in a crawl space of the main floor. Only Alpha could do the entire job because of the skill set. They quoted me $1800 and because it was before the end of the year, there would have been a $600 tax credit. So the net cost would have been about $1200. The other 2 quotes were higher on that account. The timing of the work was based on the fact that I had a delay in updating my kitchen. I was hoping that it would be done quickly because they had to have my new sink put in and have all the new plumbing done before they could do the insulation underneath. It was a spray on thing to close up the holes in the bottom of the cabinets which were bigger than the plumbing and breached all the cold air. They were awesome. I will go to them when I have the money to get the work done. As far as affordability, overall professionalism and the fact that they could do the whole job is concerned, they were very good.
Description of Work: Alpha Energy Savers gave me a quote for an insulation job in the first week of December.

Salvador arrived when he said he would, stayed for a few hours. He showed us what he was doing and took the time to explain the results and what our options are to improve the insulation in our house. We received a quote in the mail a few days later, which covered everything we had talked about, broken down in pieces (attic, basement, exterior walls) in case we can't do it all at once. I also spoke to Rob one phone and he was very willing to work with us on what we will do ourselves. Great experience overall. We have already hired them to insulate the attic.

Called this summer to get an estimate. When Rob came out he was to the point in saying that there wasn't much they could do except air seal, and repair and replace the insulation in the crawl space. He said for the crawl space it would be $275, but he then said they have a $495 minimum. He then said they could air seal the attic for the $220 extra. I called again at the beginning of October and left a message saying that I would like the job to be done. He called back the next day saying they had no record of the original bid. We discussed it over the phone and he agreed that it would be a $495 job. I asked to schedule it for a saturday, and he said he would call me back. I called and submitted a request almost 2 weeks later asking for the date. Rob emailed back saying they had not received the signed contract back from me (I didn't know I was being sent one). I gave him my mailing address (different than physical), and he said he would send it out. Instead, he emailed a copy of the contract and I faxed it back to them. We were scheduled for 10/31/09 after that, and were told the worker would be here between 8:30 and 10:00. Got a call at 10:30 on 10/31/09 from the worker saying that he could not make it that day and wanted to reschedule for Wednesday. I explained that we needed Saturday, so he rescheduled me for the following Saturday 11/7/09. Worker came at 8:30 on that Saturday and performed the work, missing a section in the crawl space that needed insulation reapplied. Got a message from them today (11/16/09) stating "I don't what the problem is" about them not having our mailing address and that all the mail was being returned, even though I gave them the address several weeks earlier.

Phone calls were answered promptly, and the estimator arrived within a week and provided a written estimate on the spot - far better service than the 2 other companies we called for estimates. Alpha Energy was running a special for the month of July, so the price was very competitive. The team that came to do the work was on time and efficient. The only problem was a miscommunication between the estimator and the work crew. We were told that they would be able to remove the siding and drill holes on the exterior to install the insulation - but the work crew thought they were to drill holes on the inside. They were not able to remove the siding without cracking it, so we had them do the installation from the inside. The work was perfectly fine, but did not include patching of the holes in the walls. This was not the fault of the work crew - they did a fantastic job. I would just recommend having everything spelled out in the estimate to avoid misunderstandings.

It went really well. We called and they gave me an estamate. We accepted the estamate by signing the bottom to make an appointment. Everyone was very helpful. There was a small problem with communication, but they squeezed us in. On the day they were supposed to do it, there was a problem with electricity. They still came back the next day to do the job even though they are busy.

This company was the only one of five I called who responded. They came out within a few days to provide an estimate for the work and we were able to schedule their return within two weeks. I left a key and asked them to call once they arrived at my house, which they did. When I returned home, the work was done and there was no sign they had ever been in the house. The company was extremely efficient about seeing that we had the correct paperwork; they filled everything in and all we had to do was sign it.

9/19/06 scheduled Home Energy Review with the Energy Trust of Oregon (ETO) to see what energy savings improvements should be done. 9/26/06 Rob w/AES came out and gave me an estimate. 11/27-29 work scheduled and performed. Melody w/AES was most helpful in providing assistance with completing the Energy Trust Incentive applications (mailed in 1/5/07). AES completed the work in a timely manner. ETO was not able to send out an inspector to verify the work was completed up to standards till 3/15/07. Inspection results: air sealing test numbers were significantly off; missed air sealing heat pump at ceiling; missed sealing crawl space access hatch. 4/29/07 AES came back out to complete work and run test equipment while ETO inspector checked their procedure. Alpha did additional air sealing to get numbers up to an acceptable level. Inspection passed. 5/18/07 received cash incentive rebate. I persisted through this process and was surprised that it took 8 months to wrap it up.
Description of Work: Alpha Energy Savers (AES) completed the following air & duct sealing and insulation work. Blower door duct blaster test. Duct sealing: applied mastic. Duct insulation: installed R-11. Wall, ceiling, and floor insulation. Walls: exterior holes drilled between studs; R-13 blown in to exterior walls (1080 sq ft); holes patched with Styrofoam plugs and sealed with spackle. Ceiling: sliced existing vapor barrier; sealed kitchen & bath fans to roof; R-23 fiberglass blown in to attic (1300 sq ft) to bring insulation up to R-38; weather-strip & insulate attic hatch; air seal attic. Floors: R-25 fiberglass tied up to floor in crawl space (1000 sq ft); air seal floor; R-3 unface to water pipes in crawl space; weather-strip & insulate crawl access hatch.

2 workers arrived. They did a nice job of putting down plastic to protect the carpet as they had to crawl under the house & move batts of insulation through the house. Set up & did the blaster test. Sealed the ducts with mastic. Installed insulation over the ducts. I decided to add to the job by having them install new visqueen. There was no problem & they handled this easily. Returned the second day, again covered the carpet, & installed insulation under the floor. The only problem was they left their compressor out in the hall & the excess air spewed insulation over an area that wasn't covered. Both workers were Spanish speaking & there was a little difficulty understanding what they were trying to explain about the process. Also there was one heated exchange between the two workers & when you witness something like that, you would like to know what is being said in your home & if it affects the job (is something wrong?). Overall efficient & good job.
Description of Work: Job bid by Robert for duct sealing, & duct & floor insulation. He measured the house, checked inside the crawl space & attic made recommendations for energy savings. Company performed Blower door & duct blaster test. Sealed existing ducts with screws & mastic. Installed duct insulation in crawl space & attic. Installed under floor insulation.

Everything went pretty well. Crew was on time and went right to work. I appreciated that they did find ways to not cut the siding sections into multiple pieces to remove (eg. around elect service drop, next to fence post, etc.). I was concerned that after completion it would be obvious which sections were removed (i.e. extensive touch up paint needed), but that didn't happen. Siding looks fine. The office was very helpful getting the paperwork done for rebates. Overall a good experience.
Description of Work: Cellulose insulation was blown into wall cavities of my 1950's house. Approx 1000 ft. Sections of lap siding removed and then holes drilled into wall cavities. Blower was used to blow insulation into the wall, then holes plugged (styrofoam plugs) and siding reinstalled and nailed.

The work itself was fine. The challenge was getting a response from the office when it came to scheduling the work. They estimated two days but it was a harder job than anticipated so they needed to reschedule for a 3rd day. The day they were to return no one showed nor did they call me. I had to call the office on the following day to find out what happened and reschedule. The second rescheduled appt, only one worker showed up and he couldn't do the job alone. So I had to call the office, again, to reschedule. On the 3rd attempt both workers showed up and the job was finished. They could tell me an exact time of when they would show up. One time it was 9a m, the next it was 9:00 am and the finial work day it was 8 am.

The rep. came out as scheduled and provided a thorough walk-through, assessment, and bid with explanation of services. Bid was comparable to two other bids we received. We decided, however, to go with a different vendor: they came in a bit lower, could get us on their calendar quicker, provided us with other insulation services that were required that Alpha Energy Savers wouldn't address (e.g., some removal of existing old insulation), and didn't drill into siding (removed siding pieces instead).
