Recommendation for Comfort Control Heating, Inc. (and NW Natural) For several weeks we?d been smelling an odd odor outside my mother?s home near Lafayette, Oregon, but not quite like the natural gas smell. (The last time I?d called in an odor to the gas company years ago, they checked and then passed it on to our local sheriff who sent an undercover deputy to scour the neighborhood for a meth lab due to the spate of reports.) When my brothers also complained, I placed the call and a NW Natural representative arrived shortly. They?ve always been prompt responders. At the exhaust he found 1900 parts per million (ppm) of carbon monoxide. (The normal expectation was 4-5 ppm.) The change in chemistry was causing the unusual odor. Inside, the level was up to 22 ppm?enough to cause headaches and nausea, though we?d been symptom-free as well as odor-free inside. In high-enough concentrations, CO2 is a silent killer. The rep shut off the gas. We placed a number of frantic calls to local companies. Not surprisingly they were all booked for the day. Upon explaining the situation, Comfort Control Heating, Inc. was the first to put a response together. Despite having a repair tech out sick, they dispatched a tech and ultimately the owner, who spent the rest of the day and evening repairing our furnace. This was also an office holiday for them which they sacrificed. They took out a corroded piece of equipment, replaced heat exchangers, and explained the problem to me (and though I understood at the time, the photos will have to suffice at this point). We were so impressed. Then ten weeks later, my mother received a surprise check for $300! (Warranty reimbursement for labor costs.) I definitely recommend these folks?Comfort Control Heating out of Carlton, Oregon. ? They recognized a potentially dangerous situation and disrupted their office and home life to deal with it; ? Honest with money. Photos available
