Because of the problems last year, I called two other "local" contractors/Plumbers from the local telephone directory first. Each of them wanted me to Fax (no email) a copy of the letter to them prior to making an appointment? Plus their estimates were both over $65? So back to the list on the back of the City's notice. To my surprise the first two I chose (at random) wanted more that $40 for the service, but did not require a fax of the notice. My third choice was Mr. Anderson, who at first asked for $40 - when I told him thanks, but I would continue going though the list in hopes of finding someone who could perform the task for $35 (like last year), he said he would do it for $35. We arranged a time and date for the service; he called about 1 hour before our arranged time to cancel because of personnel problems. We re-scheduled for the following day at the same time. He arrived about 15 min's early, performed the required test, filled out the required paperwork (which I think took longer than the Back-Flow test). He gave me my copy of the form/receipt, his card and I gave him a check for $35 and said goodbye. 12/19/2012 - Received a letter today from the Oregon City (Final Notice) that I was in non-compliance (overdue) with the City's Cross Connection/Backflow program and that I had 15 days to correct, or my "City" water would be shut off (do they really think that would be a problem for someone who has their own Well?). Called the Oregon City public works department, explained that the test had been done by Mark Anderson Irrigation & Landscape and that I had a copy of the form/receipt. They told me to mail or bring a copy by their office, so I will. Luckily they are close by and I am retired. I did call Mr. Anderson's telephone numbers listed on his card - first number went to voice mail and was full, second number I was able to leave a voice mail explaining what was going on. He called back shortly after I left the voice mail, but I was outside and was not able to get to the phone, but he did not leave a message (caller ID). Will I use Mr. Anderson again - Yes, if I can not find someone else who will perform this test for $35 or less next year.
Description of Work: This was an annual "Back-flow Assembly Test" required by Oregon City Public works (Oregon City's Cross Connection/Back-flow Prevention Program). The goal of this program is to prevent contamination of the City's drinking water supply by customers who also have private wells connected to their homes water supply system. This is the second time I have used one of the contractors the City lists on the back of their annual notice. We should have known better after the problems we had last year with the contractor we chose off of this list - but that is another review. Oregon City states on the back of their notice that "Other testers can be found in the yellow pages of the telephone directory. The charge can vary widely among testers. We recommend that you obtain more that one quote. Average cost is generally $35 -$40."

DID NOT START WORK WHEN PROMISED. DID NOT COMPLETE WORK WHEN HE DID SHOW UP TO DO THE JOB. ON HIS SECOND TIME TO DO WORK HE DID NOT COMPLETE THE JOB. SAID HE WOULD BE BACK IN 4 DAYS TO COMPLETE THE WORK, AND WE DID NOT HEAR OR SEE HIM FOR THREE WEEKS. NEVER CALLED DURING THAT TIME TO LET ME KNOW HE WOULD BE THERE LATER. WHEN HE DID SHOW UP TO INSTALL THE RAIN SENSOR IT WAS ON A SUNDAY AFTER CHURCH, AND I HAD TO LEND HIM MY TOOLS TO DO THE INSTALLATION OF THE SENSOR. HE DID NOT INSTALL THE SENSOR PROPERLY, AS IT DID NOT WORK. WHEN HE WENT TO INSTALL THE SENSOR HE HAD TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE INSTALLING IT. I HAD TO REINSTALL IT MYSELF PROPERLY AFTER READING THE INSTRUCTIONS, & NOW IT WORKS. HE NEVER COMPLETED THE ENTIRE JOB HE QUOTED ON, AND AFTER THE PROBLEM, I CANCELLED THE REST OF THE PROPOSED WORK. HE TAKES DAYS TO RETURN PHONE CALLS, AND GIVES MANY EXCUSES FOR HIS ACTIONS. I HAVE REQUESTED A STATEMENT 3 TIMES. NEVER GOT ONE.
Description of Work: REPLACE ALL THE SPRINKLER HEADS, AND CONTROLS FOR MY OLD SPRINKLER SYSTEM THAT WAS 14 YEARS OLD. ALSO INSTALLED A RAIN SENSOR FOR THE NEW SYSTEM. THIS COMPANY DOES NOT PERFORM IN A BUSINESS LIKE WAY.
