We bought our home in October of 2012 and one of the first things we did before moving in was replace the carpet. It is a modest, 1970?s, one-story, ranch-style home of less than 1,500 square feet. My wife took the lead on the carpet project and talked to a salesman at The Direct Flooring Center. He must have done his job well because she was sold. She was told that there were 2 or 3 choices we could make that would save us money as they were already in stock. We picked one that was in stock, reportedly built for heavy traffic/use, and that also suited our tastes closely enough. We were then put in touch with the independent installers that they recommended as being the best in their field. ?Our best guys? and ?award winning? were some of the words they used in describing these installers. The installers were polite and relatively on time if my memory serves me. Within a few days after the installation, we noticed a very noticeable seam appearing in our hallway. We called Direct Flooring to report it. They told us that this was the fault of the installers, and that I needed to contact them directly. I did. Within a few days, someone returned to ?fix? the visible seam. ?There?s nothing we can do but re-cut the carpet and lay it back down? is what we were told. No stretching, just a re-cut (effectively widening the gap) and re-laid, which was done. Within days the seam was visible again and another one had shown up in that same hallway. I was disgusted and satisfied only that, even if I did call the installers back, they had already proved their inability to fix anything. The Direct Flooring Center had also already stated their position: that this falls in the lap of the installers, not us. I lived with two visible seams that became more and more noticeable over the next half year until one morning I snapped. I had had it and if I was going to have to live with seams, The Direct Flooring Center would have to live with my on line review. I stopped myself and decided that before I wrote a word, that I needed to at least contact the Center and give them the chance to make things right. I played a lot of phone tag over the next few days but finally got someone from Direct Flooring to come out and take a look. He had to tell me that carpet seams can?t ever be completely hidden, but also agreed that what I had went above and beyond acceptable. He told me that the carpet installers would be contacting me within a few short days. A week went by so I called Direct Flooring and left a message on a Friday that I still hadn?t heard from anybody. The next Tuesday someone from the installers did call and we made an appointment for him to stop by that Thursday evening. As luck would have it, I realized that my day was shaping up such that I would not be able to be back home by our appointed time. Several hours before 5, I called and left a message that I needed to cancel, but that I was available the following evening, all weekend long, and even Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings the following week, to please call me back to re-schedule. No word. I called back on Monday and again left a message to please call for a reschedule. Here it is Wednesday and I haven?t heard a word. I?ve now done all I?m willing to do toward giving The Direct Flooring Center a chance to make things right. Here?s your review, Direct Flooring Center. I hope you get the same feeling reading it as I get every time I walk down my hall and see those d*** seams that cost me a pretty penny.
