Description of Work: My deck and lattice surround were in terrible shape. Several boards on the deck had rotted, the surround was in danger of collapsing. I received a reasonable quote from Mr Schopp in the winter months, and as soon as the weather improved he sent 2 guys to work on the deck. They were on time, polite, cheerful and very hard-working. In solid pouring rain which lasted the entire time they were at my house (just over 2 days), they cleaned and stripped the deck. They returned a couple of weeks later and sanded, stained and sealed the deck. They repaired the lattice surround and painted it. The deck looks stunning! Several friends asked me if I'd had all the wood replaced. I'm absolutely thrilled with the results. The company totally delivers, they return phone calls, show up on time, and do what they say they're going to do. I can't recommend them highly enough and would definitely use them in the future.

Description of Work: Schopp's washed windows in & out, cleaned gutters, power washed patio and fence. They were very careful in every way. I got a couple of other quotes which were lower but choose Schopp's because I had seen their work on a neighbor's house and I didn't have to ask them more than once to provide a quote. I had to call the other companies to follow up when their quotes didn't arrive as promised.

A representative from ProDrain referred me to Schopp's. Schopps was able to bid my gutter cleaning job verbally over the phone, based on satellite pictures. Their bid was the most reasonable one I received, and their schedule was also the most aggressive. I verbally accepted their bid on the phone, clarified timelines, and clarified costs for additional services, if found to be required while they were cleaning the gutters. They came the very afternoon they promised. The final invoice came in above the lowest flat rate they had estimated, but well under their worst-case estimate, and much less than the other bids I received.

Even though we didn't do business, I wanted to review this provider because of the extraordinary professionalism and responsiveness that I received. Paul called me back within 12 hours of my leaving a message, and we discussed pricing and options for installing holiday lights on my home. Despite the fact that I called late in the season -- and his installation calendar was almost completely booked -- he made time for me and would have hung the lights quickly. And when I say quickly I mean it: I called on Friday, and he added a Monday morning, 9:00 am, install slot to his calendar. That's amazing, this time of year. I should also add that the only reason we didn't do the lighting job with him is that I decided to fix some exterior accent lights instead. Very pleased with this man's attention to customers and wouldn't hesitate to use him in the future.

I contacted Schopp's Monday evening, they contacted me back Tuesday afternoon and my lights are fully installed in less than 24 hours. I might be lucky based on the fact they were scheduled to be in my area so soon but regardless they were prompt, professional and cared about what I wanted done. The men who came to my home were very polite and asked me for specifics on how I wanted the lights placed in a few areas rather than just assuming I wanted them in a way that seemed logical to them. I appreciate the care for my desires on how our home was decorated. The work was done very efficiently as well. I will provide another update/review after the holidays if there is to be anything other than a positive completion on this project.

I called them because they were recommended by the company that built my deck. I asked for them to come out and give me an estimate for staining and weather-proofing the deck and they gave me a date and time. But no one showed up and when I called back they said that they had overbooked and would come out the next day instead. However, they did not show up again and later called me and said that the person had car trouble and asked to set up another date. But I told them no, that I would look elsewhere because by that time I had genuine concerns about reliability.

The Company that built your deck has been referring me for 18 years. I hope that says a little something about us, To my knowledge, this is the largest deck and fence company in Oregon. Many things have changed over this time and as we have grown I have moved into more of an administrative role. I do however still do all my own bids, even though a lot of those are scheduled by an assistant. Unfortunately in this instance he had overlooked that I had a family commitment that afternoon and so needed to rescheduled for the following week. As luck would have it The following week, I took my car in for a quick repair with plans to use my backup work vehicle to make my appointments only to discover I couldn't get it to start. When we called to reschedule once more she declined. I understand this could give pause to using our services. I do however find it discouraging that would be enough incentive to tell others not to use our services.

In 18 yrs of being in business and with a 50% growth rate so far, during our first 3 quarters of 2011, I finally had to hire an assistant in sales calls. And after all this time of doing it everything in my own head, there has been a learning curve on what the expectations are and what specifics need to be communicated. Unfortunately this customer was on the wrong end of a break down of this communication in the office. My assistant had asked about scheduling this estimate and I told him that I could have the estimator out there after he finished the project he was on for the day. I thought I had made it clear to leave the appointment flexible on time of arrival, due to the fact we were still unclear how long it would take to wrap up the project. Josh my estimator had paperwork that I had given him stating he had an estimate at approximately 6pm . About 5pm, he realized that he was going to be cutting it close to the 6pm time frame, and after a long day was actually quite dirty from the days work. He called me to inform me of the situation, then called the customer to ask if it would be a problem if he was about 30 min late, or even better, reschedule for the following morning... well long story short he got an earful. Afterward she called me and I got an earful. She was very upset that we "hadn't even bothered to call". We did our best to come to some sort of agreement and explain what had happened, in the end I think we both felt that this business relationship was doomed before it ever began. Afterward we did some tweaking in house in how we set the schedule to avoid any further breakdowns in communication. After these many years I have learned that it is inevitable that there will be occasions where the customers expectations will not be met. First of all, I do my best to minimize this, as I have a strong distaste for these types of confrontations. However on the rare occasion this happens, I then do everything in my power to make it right, knowing that at times this will not be enough that there will be times when I will not be able to offer enough to mend the situation. The fact that we had come to this point before we had done any work, left me in a position where I too had no desire to do business with this customer.

We did not have a pleasant situation with the owner. Their book keeping and some of their practices was not good. What they did spilled out totally at a time. There were some things I did not understand we had some clarifications. The billing was worse than what we anticipated and we had to get into discussion with that. He was going through some family problem that might have distracted him. That had to be clarified and he should have backed that up. He had cleaned our deck and put a seal on that. They had told us that there would be two coats put on and then he said he would not do that. When the charge came through it reflected that he had put double coat. We were happy with them for the first time and not the second time. The team that worked was good. We just had a bad experience with the owner.

I do recall this job and also went back and reviewed my notes from 20 months ago when we did this work. I need to acknowledge that yes this was during a difficult time after my divorce and subsequently I was juggling the needs of my 4 school aged children with running a company. Thankfully that time is behind us. I originally restored their deck in the April of 2007. Our process is to strip and brighten the deck on the first trip, sand and apply the first coat of a 2 coat stain called Penofin Ultra on the second trip, then return a third time to apply the second coat, I also reccomend to all my customers that due to our Oregon climate they should plan on annual maintenance of the horizontal surfaces to lightly clean and apply a maintenance coat of stain to avoid restarting the entire restoration process. When I was contacted to make a return trip to work on their deck I made the assumption that we could handle the project as we would on a annual basis. However this was now 2009 (2 years later) and I failed to take this into account. I sent my crew out to clean his deck as well as the mildew on their vinyl siding. After recieving feedback that the siding was not cleaned to their satisfaction I sent my crew back out to make good on our agreement. They were satified with this result. We then made a return trip to apply a maintenance coat of finish. The feedback I got from the crew was that the original finish had failed and that they needed to sand the deck down before applying the finish. This left only one coat of finish on the deck. I then went out to meet the homeowner to evaluate the deck and discuss options. It was agreed that a second coat was necessary. Being that this was so long ago I don't quite recall what the reference was to billing issues. I am assuming that since I did not initially identify the total needs of the deck and then with the following price adjustment I regretably left a poor impression on them. I do my best to address any customer concerns and hope to turn any unfortunate event into an opportunity to stand behind our service and strengthen the relationship I have with my customers. I also learn from my mistakes and no longer price a deck older than a few weeks old without first evaluating the state of the deck. Though I have apparently missed the mark with this customer, I am hopeful that prospective customers can see that we go out of our way to make sure the job is done correctly and that they are satisfied

The original estimate was the final price. The deck was about 10 years old and had had very little maintenance. We thought it might need to be replaced. Paul looked at and said he could make it look good. His crew arrived when they said they would and sanded the entire deck and all of the railings in one day. They also did some minor repairs to some of the railings. The next day they applied one coat of finish. They let that set for a day and then finished up with a final coat. The finish was brushed and rolled on. They did a good job of cleaning up as they went. The deck looks great.

I wish I had taken a before and after shot of this deck... 10 years on the south side of a hill overlooking Beaverton and this deck was extremely weathered... With each step of the process (Clean, brighten, sanding, and both coats of Penofin Ultra) you could watch it come back to life. I put a tub of lights on the front porch, and they put them up. They replace the lights that have gone out. They take everything down on the date we choose, and put the lights back in the tubs. They pay a lot of attention to detail and make sure that everything is in order and safely installed.
