We called Rick out for a bid, he was prompt, asked if he could install the products we had selected, he said he could and he gave us a bid for installation, removal of baseboards, carpet, tackstrip and haul away. He said he could complete the job in 2 at most 3 days. We agreed to have him do the work, we ordered our products according to his measurements. He picked up the flooring and he delivered it to our house 4 days before he started work. He came on a Thursday, he was on time, and very professional. He removed the baseboards, carpet, and tackstrip as agreed, and prepped the subflooring for installation. He had to float the floor in a couple of spots, to make it level. Then he started installing the flooring. We ordered Quiet Walk a noise and vapor barrier as recommended....we wanted it on the entire floor, he told the flooring company that he would only install it on the stairs. He began glueing down the flooring, and noticed that the floor wasn't level in a few spots, and said the glue would fix that. When he was halfway across the floor, he said to us, that he had never done that kind of installation before. That really made us nervous. He managed to track the adhesive all across the flooring, and told us not to worry about it....he would clean it up later, when he was finished. The next day when he came, one of the boards had shifted and he didn't catch it the night before. He was upset and angry as he would have to tear it out and it would be a much more difficult job. We told him not to worry about it, we were okay with it. As he finished the floor, he cut his knuckle when one of the boards kicked back. He did complete the floor (but not the steps) then tried to wipe up the adhesive he tracked. He hadn't read the glue instructions, he was to clean up any mess within 24 hours. He tried using an incorrect product. We read the glue instructions and used mineral spirits as instructed, but it was too late, and the adhesive, would not come off, it would reappear. On the third day, (Monday) he called to say he had been stung by bees on Saturday and was on medication and would not be coming. We believe he worked someone's carpet job as the carpet he had in his truck on Friday was gone, and he had no signs of any medical condition when he came back to work on our job on Tuesday. He came to install the flooring on the 4 steps, we had purchased some trim on our own, necessary to complete the steps. We also purchased new baseboards, painted and installed them, so he did not have to (although replacing the baseboards was part of his bid). He had intended to put the old baseboards back on and they were missing paint, and covered in carpet fibers. As he went to install the flooring on the steps he informed us that he would not install the Quiet Walk (Noise and Vapor barrier) on the stairs either. We are not able to return the product...it was expensive. He did the step installation, damaging a board in the process, we had to order a new board at almost $100, we were trying to be understanding and split the cost. The next day when the board came, he came to install it (he did not tell us...he just dropped by....luckily we were home). That is when he realized he didn't have the finishing transition piece he needed. He would have to track one down, he would get one and come back to install it. He asked us to pay him, since the job was finished except for the final transition piece. Which we did, and he cashed the check that day! We contacted the adhesive company to find out how to remove the tracked adhesive that had bonded to the surface of our flooring. We then ordered the adhesive remover and went about the time consuming process of removing all his tracked glue. Luckily, after much time and effort, we were able to remove all the adhesive from the surface of our expensive hardwood laminate flooring. He said he would be back in two days to install the final transition piece in 2, at the latest 3 days. On the 3rd day, we called as we hadn't heard from him, and he told us,"I'm working and I haven't had time to shop for your trim piece." We made a few calls, found the trim piece, which cost us all of $4 and installed it ourselves. 2 1/2 weeks later, he finally calls and says he thinks he might have found our trim. We contracted the flooring company and told them we would not be recommending him or working with him anymore, and we asked them to inform not to contact us. He hasn't!
Description of Work: Removed baseboard, carpet, and tack strips which he hauled away. Prepped floor for installation. Installed Hardwood Laminate flooring on cement floor in family room and 4 steps leading into the family room.
