There are fence contractors and then there are true craftsmen who are like artists. NW Modern are artists and they are the creme of the crop when it comes to fence builders in Portland. The fence they built for us ADDS VALUE to our house and it is a showpiece. I just stare at it from my porch and smile as the light shines through the meticulously built gaps in between the horizontal boards. Already, a few people have asked, "Who built your fence?" and it has only been up a week. They are the best horizontal fence builders in town and trust this statement bc I inspected the work and got quotes from all the other big names who also had 5 star reviews on Yelp. I think this might be the first review I have ever written and I am doing it because you need to know that NW Modern is the VERY BEST in Portland/Vancouver. I knew they would do a good job but honestly the work of Mihi (Lucian's cousin) BLEW ME away. And not only can Mihi build a fence but he is a GENTLEMAN with a "can do" attitude who is kind, responsive, patient and open to communicating while on the job to any needed tweaks I requested. He is a pleasure to be around and not creepy or dirty. And he is super organized and cleans up after himself so well! Lucian is equally as kind, patient, communicative etc. Mihi had to fix something and said he would be back on Thursday, several days after the job was finished and he came. He is a MAN OF HIS WORD which means a lot in flaky contractor world. NW Modern is a SMALL family business with very high quality control so everything is top notch with the best materials. The prices are competitive. If you have any doubt in their skill just ask them for a few addresses of some fences they built around town and go visit them. You will begin to see the difference between them and the other big companies around. They are detail oriented. And what they build for you will LAST FOREVER and is durable. They don't want to cut corners and they take extreme PRIDE in their work. Before our fence job started I thought to myself that I would not allow any fence company to put up their advertising sign on our fence bc I thought it would like gaudy. Well what do you know--the fence is finished and my jaw dropped at its beauty and the least I could do to say thank you was to ALLOW THEM TO PUT THEIR ADVERTISEMENT SIGN UP. That should speak for itself. :)

Excellent communication start to finish. Quality workmanship beyond our expectations. Fence was installed on schedule as promised. Price was reasonable. The guys even used the dirt from post hole excavation to fill some holes our 2 yr. old lab had dug in the yard. Not sure what more we could have possibly hoped for!
