North West Cabinet Source service was bad and they finally finished it today after almost a year. They've changed their name three times since I've used them because their reputation is that bad. We've had an ongoing issue with the cabinets since May. We have a huge file on this company that has every time that they come out, every phone call, every email, and every voice mail. Everything has been saved because if they didn't get it right today we were going to go to court. I mean it had gotten that bad. The incompetence and unprofessionalism of that company is horrible. The owner of the company is named Bill Purple and when I went in there one thing that I said and made very clear and asked was he going to be the one that was making the cabinets and he said yes. He lied to me and subbed the work out to a subcontractor to do and that company to this day will not give me their name and that's who I'm having the biggest trouble with. I have nothing against different nationalities, but this company is ran by Mexican's and I told them that if they are going to come to America I have no problem with that and that's wonderful, but if you state a time to a customer, show up and if you can't make it do the decency of picking up the phone and make a phone call. The price of this stuff should have been less than half of what we paid and that's why they were back today because things were falling apart. They had to remove a drawer today in order to get to the top one to be able to put in the cutting board properly. They were having trouble putting it back in and in the process of doing that the whole mechanism that holds it on the runner fell off in their hand. I told them that's the problem that we're having and he said that they'll fix it but could I take my stuff out. The drawer was filled with my teas and there was a little bit of residue in the drawer itself and he takes it and dumps it on the floor. I told him that he should have stepped outside and dumped it in the flowerbed or out on the driveway where it's gravel, but not on my kitchen floor. I told him that this home is not under construction and when a home is finished like this you don't do that kind of stuff and this is the things that this company needs to know and I'm sitting here having to train them. I've had to do this over and over again with this company. They're very unprofessional, but are very sweet.
Description of Work: They came to finish up what they were supposed to do when they made our kitchen cabinets.

1. The customer was not lied to. NWCS has owned the equipment in the shop for over 3 years up until recently. We remain on good terms and continue to work well together. 2. Our name "Cabinet Source " has been the same since around 1994. Anyone can check with the Construction Contractors board, CCB #179061 and reserch our record back to our original Licenseing. We only added the "NW" to aquire the .com- We were woking under Kitchen Visions in the beginning and diverted due to an offer from a Cabinet Manufacturer, but kept constant with Cabinet Source throught the past 18 years. 3. The customer's job was complete several months ago- the work recently performed was warranty issues. 4. We / I have always been a strong believer in the Golden Rule- Still am and always will be. I did not lie to this customer and have not lied to others- These are strong words from anyone, and frankly I am offended. In the remodeling business, there is alot of responsibility carried with the reliance of others- We do our best to maintain a tight schedule and follow through with what we say will be done. Did I mention the Golden Rule- I guess this is where Some people and Angies list included, falls short, of course we're not all perfect. I've had some bad experiances and dissapointing ones with a fair share of people in the past, "THE MEMBER" being one of them, however I don't believe washing your frustrations in public is an appropriate method of venting, nor do I agree with Angie's list in doing so and protecting Members only if they pay their membership fees. I'm not personally a member of Anigie's list and don't agree with their methods of screening answers and not the member comments. If you have something to say- edify and make it possitive, otherwise do not speak with a sharp tough.

Bill Purple delivered a professional job. His design assistance was most helpful. His standard form agreement needs work.
Description of Work: Kitchen Remodel by NW Cabinet Source: We contracted for our kitchen remodel with Bill Purple, owner of NW Cabinet source in Beaverton, Oregon. Bill offered numerous design ideas that were very helpful. The project included removal of a counter peninsula and soffits, replacement of all cabinets, installation of new sink and microwave along with quartz countertops. The project required up to six weeks of various disruptions in availability of water, dishwasher, and stove. Despite a few surprises in pre-existing electrical, structural and plumbing issues, Bill Purple resolved matters with sensible solutions. We would recommend NW Cabinet Source to our friends. Having a contract that spelled out the terms and conditions for the work was helpful. Some of the T&C in Bill Purple’s standard form agreement required revision. Purple accepted our suggested changes.

The finalized order was placed June 1. The contract specified that the cabinets would be installed in 5 weeks and a 50% deposit was paid. The cabinets were a month late. The installation finally occurred on a Saturday after several schedule changes at the request of Cabinet Source. Delivery guys left before the cabinets were in place, despite request of the installer, and we had to help move, lift and place them. The cabinets were built to 2'' too deep and shelves to wrong thickness. Laminate was used on some pieces vs. veneer. The hardware was cheap and not to spec. The doors on one cabinet were mounted inside the frame on one side and outside on the other. There was sloppy workmanship on the trim, with glue showing. Toekick finish was wrong color. The installer met with the designer 4 days later to generate a correction list, but they didn't follow up or return. We're removing and replacing one cabinet altogether and repairing the other; we're using a new fabricator.
Description of Work: Manufacture and install custom media and storage cabinet. Cabinet Source was selected by our interior designer to fabricate and install a pair of custom, wood veneer cabinets for our living room. Detailed drawings were provided.

Today's date is 8-12-2010, I heard this morning that we had a poor grade with Angies list from a remodeling contractor I've done several successful jobs with. It sounds like they may have lost some business due to this report dated back to 2006. How unfortunate- 2006 was a year that I suffered a major medical setback and had limited control over a few projects that were in the process. After being in the construction, remodeling and interiors business since 1979, and still in business in this tough economy- we've always treated every customer the way we would like to be treated. I never met this customer, but I do remember that there were corrections made to their job, as well as a fireplace mantle, and other parts that they said not to bring out to the job. As they said in their complaint- they never paid the 50% balance due on the cabinetry- we build 100% of their product and delivered 90%. Interesting how a remodeling project can fuel a temper and cause a lasting undeserved blemish on an otherwise great company that operates with integrity, honesty and a personal interest in every client, regardless of how large or small the job may be. There was also a "designer"(middleman) in this transaction- so as to the overall project- it leaves question as to what really was said, or the actual events that took place. We never pushed for collection on the 50% balance, and realized that the client was not completely satisfied, which is never the desired outcome, however, given their balance being forgiven, I certainly didn't expect this level of frustration. Again, how unfortunate! I'm not sure what more to say... it's been several years ago, we're still servicing several repeat customers and welcome new business. And please, rest assured- We treat everyone based on the "The Golden Rule" and hope to earn new business with quality service, excellent pricing and personal interest in your needs. PS: I never received a phone call, email, fax or any attempt of communication from the customer that filed this complaint.

WHEN I RECEIVED THE CONFIRMATION DRAWINGS, I NOTED A DISCREPANCY ON THE ALIGNMENT OF THE DRAWERS ON ADJACENT CABINETS, AND WAS TOLD THAT A CHANGE MIGHT NOT BE POSSIBLE SINCE THE CONSTRUCTION WAS ALREADY UNDERWAY (ALIGNMENT WAS GOOD WHEN RECEIVED). A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER I NOTICED THAT THE DIMENSIONS ON THE DRAWINGS WAS SHORTER THAN I HAS SPECIFIED, AND WAS TOLD THAT HE HAD DECIDED THAT I WOULD WANT A SHORTER CABINET IN SPITE OF WHAT I SPECIFIED AND HAD CHANGED IT WITHOUT NOTIFYING ME. CABINETS WERE READY AHEAD OF SCHEDULE - ABOUT 4 WEEKS. DOORS AND DRAWER FRONTS WERE COMPLETELY WRONG. BLIND CORNER WALL CABINET WAS COMPLETELY WRONG DIMENSION (AFTER HAVING NOTED THIS PROBLEM IN ADVANCE). SHORTENED CABINET WAS VERY SHORT. CABINET SOURCE REFUSED TO REPLACE WRONG DOORS AND FRONTS, BUT DID OFFER US A $800 DISCOUNT ON ORDER. BLIND CORNER CABINET WAS FINALLY REBUILT (ALMOST TO SPEC, STILL 1'' OFF), BUT TOOK ALMOST 6 WEEKS TO GET REPLACEMENT. CALLS WERE ANSWERED SLOWLY.
Description of Work: I ORDERED A FULL SET OF KITCHEN CABINETS (BASE, WALL, AND PENINSULA). I SUPPLIED A FLOOR PLAN WITH CABINET DESCRIPTIONS, AND DIMENSIONS BASED ON STANDARD CABINETS AVAILABLE FROM ANOTHER MANUFACTURER. I ALSO SUPPLIED A DRAWING OF THE DOOR FRAME PROFILE THAT WE HAD SELECTED AFTER MUCH DEBATE. CABINET SOURCE MEASURED, AND NOTED THAT ONE BLIND CORNER CABINET DID NOT CONFORM THE STANDARD PRODUCTS MADE BY HIS SUPPLIER IN THEIR CATALOG. HE INDICATED THAT THIS SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM, AS MY SPECIFICATION WAS A FAIRLY COMMON DESIGN (WROTE IT DOWN IN HIS NOTES). WE ADDED A NUMBER OF UPGRADES SUCH AS ADDITIONAL BREAD BOARDS AND HIGHER QUALITY DRAWER SLIDES. I ASKED AT THE TIME IF HE WAS SURE OF THE AVAILABILITY OF THE DOOR FRAME PROFILE, AT WHICH TIME I VERBALLY DESCRIBED THE RADIUS AND APPEARANCE. IT WAS SPECIFIED ON OUR CONTRACT BY A NUMBER (NO PICTURE WAS SUPPLIED TO US). WE WERE ASSURED THAT THAT WAS THE CORRECT SPEC. FOR THE DOORS AND DRAWER FRONTS. ESTIMATED DELIVERY WAS 5 WEEKS.

THE MEMBER'S DRAWINGS WERE USEFUL ALTHOUGH NOT COMPLETELY ACCURATE. IF WE (CABINET SOURCE)MAKE AN ERROR WE WILL ALWAYS STAND BEHIND IT'S CORRECTION. WE OFFERED THE MEMBER THE $800.00 REFUND ENTIRELY OUT OF GOOD FAITH BECAUSE THE DOORS WERE ORDERED CORRECTLY BASED ON THE PAPERWORK HE SIGNED. WE FELT BAD FOR THE ERROR AND WORK ALMOST ENTIRELY ON REFERRAL. WE THOUGHT REFUND WAS VERY GENEROUS. I DON'T BELIEVE I WAS SLOW TO RESPOND TO THE CLIENT, I WAS IN COMMUNICATION WITH HIM ALMOST EVERY FEW DAYS. AS ALWAYS WE TRY TO TREAT OTHERS THE WAY WE WOULD EXPECT TO BE TREATED AND THEN SOME. I AM SORRY THE MEMBER WAS NOT COMPLETELY PLEASED WITH HIS SERVICE WE PROVIDED. BILL PURPLE
