The Panasonic bathroom fans are super quiet and efficient and the fluorescent lights are now much brighter and do not flicker. The work was done on time and on budget
Description of Work: Two electricians installed two bathroom ceiling fans, fixed a bathroom lighting fixture, and repaired our kitchen fluorescent bulb sockets and wiring.

I was impressed with their work. They weren’t even scheduled but were able to come out the day that I called. The electrician was extremely knowledgeable; he told me his background in the electrical field and I was impressed. I'm happy with their services overall.
Description of Work: They changed something in the main electrical box to accommodate a new dryer. They changed an outlet, and also looked at something else that wasn't included in the work order.

Fantastic! Mike was the original person who came out to the building while on a different job at the clinic. I asked him about this present job at that time. He recommended the re-circulating pump for the water heater to solve our problem. I called him when we were ready to do the work, months later. He remembered me and the 2 electrical panels in the building which he had seen. He was able to tell me if there was enough electricity in the existing panel to do the work over the phone. He sent the appropriate person, Aarron (my favorite). He has taught his employees some of his unique skills. Aarron figured out an even less expensive way given the configuration of existing outlet. What can I say," great job". We need more people in the world who hold such high standards, honesty, and integrity!
Description of Work: Work on commercial 100 year old Victorian building to get hot water to the 2nd floor of our building. This involved disconnecting an old unused water pump. Aaron, the electrician sent to do the work used an existing dedicated circuit for a new water heater re-circulating pump.. He installed a new electrical box and outlet to use the existing circuit to connect to the main electrical panel. They also reconnected power to a wall heater in the upstairs bathroom and installed a protected GFI outlet in the first floor bathroom. I had multiple bids on the project. Mike saved me $5000 to $8000 on the electrical portion of the job. Mike's knowledge of electrical and plumbing is up to date. The ability to consider both is integral in any project, especially one involving a 100 year old building. He stayed within his scope as an electrician and was willing to talk with the plumber involved in the project. Additionally he saved me $3000-$5000 on the plumbing aspect of the job. These are folks who can think outside the box all within code.

They were on time. They came out when they said they would and did a good job. We ended up paying a little bit more than the estimate. That's the only complaint I have. Other than that I think they did a really good job. They also passed our inspector’s report.

Both of the electricians arrived right on time. They did a wonderful job of installing the lights and the kitchen has transformed more to a "street of dreams" look with this new lighting. It required them to crawl in the attic above the kitchen to drill the holes and wire the lights. Both my wife and I can't believe how this new lighting makes the kitchen "feel". They were very professional, installed the lights right where we wanted them, and did some consultation on best placement of the lights. They cleaned up the job perfectly and I would highly recommend Mike's Electric! We have used a number of electricians for this house over the last 25 years and Mike's Electric is definately the best.

UPDATE 12/2/2015: I scheduled an appointment nearly a month in advance to have two recessed ceiling lights in an upstairs hallway repaired (one was a light that the Mikes electricians had been asked to repair before but decided not to fix as it appeared intermittent, now it had failed entirely and a second light on the same circuit appeared to be operating at only half power for the first ten minutes after you turned it on, then gradually brightened to full power over about 15 minutes. I was afraid the circuit is faulty and a potential fire hazard). I also asked them to install track lighting in a room downstairs and, if time, give me a ballpark estimate on doing the electrical work on an upcoming master bathroom remodel and moving the laundry room up two floors to the bedroom area. We set a date for December 2 between 10-12AM and I arranged with my employer to take the morning off; it's our busy season at work so vacation days are difficult to come by right now. Generally, Darryl and his crews are very good about calling with updates as to arrivals (and frankly, they typically show up within the first half hour of any window they've set or even a bit early). This morning, though, by 11:50AM I hadn't heard a word from anyone, so I called them and asked for an ETA. I was told they'd check with the electrician and call me right back. By 12:30 I still hadn't gotten a call back so I called them again, and was told that the electrician said she'd left a message (I have my phone with me--it shows no calls). In any case, the electrician was still on the other job at least 20-30 minutes away, and had no ETA yet as to when she would be ready to leave for my job. I had to leave for work at 3:00 at the very latest, so it was pretty clear they wouldn't arrive in time to do much more than the first job on my list...assuming they arrived before I had to leave. So, extremely disappointed, I canceled the appointment, wasting my whole morning and early afternoon. I'm not going to reschedule with Mike's, not after waiting so long for the appointment in the first place, and certainly not after no one bothered to let me know they'd be delayed. I've wasted a vacation day and will need to take a second vacation day to get this work done, or I can choose to pay more if I can find someone who will work on a Saturday. Up till now I've been happy with Mike's--I've used their services a few times--but I'm going to find a different electrician to work these jobs and the remodels I have coming up. I like them, have no real complaints about the quality of work, but I simply don't have the time (or the vacation days) to waste on no-shows. If I'd even gotten a call that the electrician's first job was running long I could have called work and changed plans...but I didn't.
Description of Work: I took advantage of the $98 Angie's deal for two hours of electrical work, and had Mike's install two outdoor light fixtures (which I supplied), and an outdoor electrical outlet on the front porch. I also asked if they'd give me ideas and estimates for some indoor work. The electrician was right on time and very nice. He made sure of what I wanted to do, then installed everything. He also hung a heavy sculpture that I'd been planning to install myself, as a favor. Then he reviewed the work I wanted done, gave me several suggestions for doing in ways that would both meet code and save me money. All in all, I was impressed and would use them again. UPDATE: Please see the details below for an update on a subsequent, less positive encounter 12/2/2015.

I liked what I read on Angie's List about Mike's Electric, and I was able to take advantage of a great Angie's List deal as well. Their service did not dissapoint as they were able to tackle several issues that I needed to be addressed. Darrell was the electrcian who came out, and he hustled and really busted his behind to work efficietly to try to accomplish the many tasks was on our list. I would recoomend Mike's to anyone and I've asked them to come back to continue some other work that I needed to get done as well. Great service.

This company could not have been easier to work with, from the initial estimating to the final billing. Doug, the estimator gave helpful suggestions but never any high pressure selling. We did not have everything done that we got an estimate for, but this was still a fairly big job. The company did not require a written contract with a lot of legalese on what we finally decided to do, a nice start for our relationship. The lead electrician and his assistant were prompt. They worked hard, quickly, and professionally. Darryl discussed options with us when we asked about adding some work. He explained what he had done at the end of each day and answered our questions or found out the answers, so we now understand the home's electrical system much better. The costs reflected application of Angie's deals (5% off parts and one hour free labor). The whole house surge protector was included at no cost. The extra labor of work that had to be redone was credited on the bill. I guess it is to be expected that unforeseen issues arise, requiring more work than originally estimated. For example, the electrician discovered that the electic water heater wiring was inadequate for the load and had to be replaced with larger wire, thus also requiring replacement of the conduit with a large diameter one. On the plus side, I'm glad he found a potentially dangerous situation that was corrected. Some of the work installing the panel and bathroom wiring caused some plaster to break away, necessitating some wall & ceiling repair, an additional expense to us. They did give us a partial credit for damage they felt they were responsible for, but we ended up having to take care of the accidental breakage due to the condition of the plaster. Every time I called the office I had a positive conversation. They are very accommodating and willing to work with the customer to make things right. Doug the estimator was responsive to any concerns I had. My only suggestion is that the estimating and billing should indicate the actual parts and prices and labor hours, rather than total dollars amounts only. My experience with other contractors is the same...it's apparently not customary to get a detailed breakdown. Although I have no reason to question the provider's honesty, you do have to take it on faith.
Description of Work: We had Mike's replace the electrical panel and do assorted repairs and improvements on our recently purchased 1952 house. The work included some installation of lights, rewiring, adding circuits, replacing conduit, changing some outlets, replacing bath fan, and addition of a whole house surge protector. Some corrective items we had done were the result of a home inspection completed (by someone else) as part of our purchase of the house. Some were upgrades we wanted done for convenience. Labor took 3+ days.

We were extremely pleased at the speed with which Mike's Electric responded to our email after we purchased their discount coupon. They replied the next business day and scheduled an appointment for 2 days after that. The repair person arrived on time, restored service to the shorted outlet, and spent the remainder of his 2 hours replacing electrical outlets throughout the house. We appreciate the work done by Mike's Electric and highly recommend them to others needing electrical services.
Description of Work: An electrical outlet in our laundry room had previously shorted out causing a whole wall in our dining room and kitchen to lose power. A friend who does electrical work repaired the outlet which restored service to the other outlets. Within 2 months, the laundry room outlet had shorted again causing the cascading power loss. Mike's Electric repaired the laundry room outlet and then replaced other electrical outlets throughout the house.

Doug McCauley came out in late June to talk to us about the scope of work. It took a couple of weeks to get the bid, and then it took more time to arrange a work date. That's the reason for the slight ding in the Responsiveness category. Other than that, Mike's Electric was great to to work with. As stated before, Darrell Michels was very professional.
Description of Work: We purchased "Today's Big Deal" for Mike's Electric because we were planning on adding a separate circuit for our garage. Darrell Michels came out and did a great job. He put in the new garage circuit, and he also corrected some other issues, like adding separate circuits for the family room and the upstairs master bedroom which originally were on the same circuit with the garage. Darrell was friendly and a pleasure to work with.

It was horrible- I felt taken advantage of by these people and really feel that they did not treat us fairly. We purchased the Angies List deal in good faith and ended up spending way more than we would have if we just had hired someone with no 'deal'. They did not give us an option to decide on the additional costs- just invoiced us afterward. Just all together a bad experience.

Response from Mike's Electric
When the customer placed their service request, they specifically asked for a new circuit to be run, and estimates given on a couple of other items they were interested in repairing. The husband was present during the installation of the circuit and we proceeded with the work based on what we thought was his approval - both at the time of the initial call and when we arrived at their home. We invoiced them promptly but never received any communication until we followed up with them on an overdue invoice that was nearly two months old. We were told that they didn't think they should pay for the work because we had never provided an estimate. They were also unhappy being charged for the necessary permit and parts even though the Big Deal coupon clearly excludes those items. Ultimately we waived all labor charges and asked to be paid only for material and the permit, which they have done. In our opinion they received exceptional value for a very small expense. A very unfortunate situation and we regret very much that the customer was not satisfied with our efforts, but we believe that our portion of the communication and ultimate resolution of the problem was both ethical and fair.

They arrived on time, completed the projects in record time, cleaned up after themselves and demonstrated knowledge and expertise in their profession. They got down to work immediately. Even though my house is old and "not to current code," they were able to solve a number of problems I have been having. They also gave me recommendations as to future work that I should do. I wanted to see how they did with small projects, so that when I do more, I know whom to call. They seemed fair.
Description of Work: I used Mike's Electric Promotion from Angie's List for a number of small electrical projects I have had on my to do list around the house: install several simple light fixtures, two replacement bathroom fans, a GFIC, a couple light switches - all small jobs that I had put off. I am sure I could have done them, but never got around to them.

We purchased a new washer/dryer set, only to find that the new high efficiency dryers require a different plug receptacle. We needed to replace the receptacle, and decided to ask for a bid for a new electrical panel at the same time. We had a home remodel done a year ago, and the contractor told us the panel was "just fine" and didn't need replacement. But after the job was done, when the City Electrical Inspector came to inspect, he warned us that the Federal Pacific Panel we had was a hazard (if you're not aware of this, just type in that panel name and start reading (might want to sit down first). We have been planning to replace it, and decided to handle both problems at the same time. We called Mike's and two other suppliers for bids. Mike's returned my call within hours. The next day, he provided a quote for the job, and was able to schedule the installation just a few days later. We wanted it done quickly, since we were unable to use our washer/dryer system until the job was done. One of the other electricians we called was going to schedule us out a few weeks, and the other one never called me back. We felt very comfortable with Mike's responsiveness and professionalism, and saw that their Angie's List rating were top notch, so we awarded them the job. They scheduled the job for two days later, as promised. They arrived on time, came with all the equipment/parts they needed to do the job, and completed it in one day as estimated. Halfway through the day, Darrell asked about how to handle a small access hole he had to make in the wall as part of the installation. He suggested adding another outlet, so we wouldn't have to make sheet rock repairs. He gave me an estimate for the additional cost on the spot and I agreed. He also installed a new circuit with the new GFCI outlet so we would have more "juice" in the garage for power tools. A great solution and an improvement. Mike's also scheduled the city electrical inspection, which went smoothly. Mike's did a clean, quick, and very professional job. They left the job site perfectly clean. There was no evidence they had been their, other than the brand new, tight and clean looking panel that we now have in place. And we no longer worry about losing our newly remodeled house to electrical fire. Thanks Mike's! Before Darrel left, we asked for an estimate on some additional lighting we plan to install in another part of the house. We were very happy with their work and their professionalism. These guys are tops on our list of contractors. Hire them.
Description of Work: Removed old (and potentially dangerous) Federal Pacific residential electrical panel, and replaced it with a new Cutler Hammer CH panel with 40 spaces. They also installed a new grounding and bonding system, installed a new 30 AMP receptacle in laundry room to accomodate updated electrical needs of a new high efficiency dryer that we purchased (separately). In addition, they installed a whole home surge protector and an additional GCFI receptacle. They handled the whole process, from purchasing and processing the permit, ordering the inspection and providing all parts.

Angie's List had a big deal for this company, but the deal ran out. So I called the electrician and he honored the same price even though it was expired. There was a hidden cost for a permit, which I didn't know about. We would have done it anyway, I just thought there should have been some disclosure about that. The quality of the service was excellent. They came when they said they would and did an excellent job.
