The work was performed at a rental house I have, so I never saw the person performing the work but the tenant was pleased. I've used Mike's Electric for various electrical work at my home and at homes of other members of our family for past nine years. They do good work and have fixed screw ups and shoddy work left by other electricians. I have more work coming up and I will use them again. I don't call anybody else. They are prompt, accurate and very professiional.

I contacted Mike's Electric on a Thursday morning after another contractor did not show up. Darryl made room in his schedule to fit me in within the next day.Aaron showed up on time and completed the job in both a timely and efficient manner. The team at Mike's electric is knowledgeable about their craft.I should add, I am always afraid to call an electrician because of how expensive their services can be. Mike's Electric was extremely reasonable. The overall experience was very pleasant; extrememly friendly staff. Will definately call them for future work!Thank you!

The electrician and apprentice arrived very promptly for the home inspection which was great as I needed to be at work for an important meeting at 1 pm. The electrician spent an uncomfortable amount of time talking to my dog before actually addressing me after the initial greeting. I waited patiently as I wanted to be polite. Once that was over, the apprentice checked every outlet while the electrician checked the electrical panel. There were a couple of GFCI outlets that didn't trip as they would have expected so they spent a considerable amount of time trying to figure out what was wrong. During this time, the electrician spent a lot of time telling me the exact number of the article of the code book he was referencing (i.e. 1405.32.05 or something like that), stories, etc. I was pleased they were so diligent in trying to find out why our outlets weren't working as expected so I didn't want to seem rude and rush him. I kept listening to his stories and thinking it was $99 well spent. By late morning, it seemed that they would be done in time for me to get to my meeting. As he wrote up his report, the apprentice was done and waiting outside. It was 45 min. before he actually walked out the door. I was a nervous wreck by then as I was worried that I would be late for my 1 pm meeting. (They arrived at 8:15 am and left around 11:45 am). I told several people what a thorough job they did for $99 and was extremely happy with the company until I received a bill for over $200 a few days later. I called the owner who said they charge for any work above and beyond the inspection. At no point was I aware that they had begun charging me for additional labor. If so, I certainly would not have sat there listening to all his stories. He said he would speak with the electrician and call me on Monday (I called on a Friday). Over a week later and I still had not heard back so I called him again. He said the electrician had told me they could fix the outlets that day to save me a trip charge. This absolutely did not happen. The owner was polite and reasonable and I believe I was as well. Eventually, we came to an agreement about the invoice which I think was fair. Because he was not rude at any point, I decided to go ahead and use them to complete all the items found during the inspection. Had his response been any different, I would have found a competitor to perform the multiple tasks which amounted to over $1000. I did agree to have the same team come back since they already knew what the job entailed. They did arrive later than expected (9 am as opposed to the estimated 8-8:30 that I had been told) but he was much more focused on his electrical work and I have no complaints. I would use this company again. I should note that I did not get additional estimates so I'm not sure how their prices stack up. I just got a sense of security from several conversations with the owner and made my decisions based on trust.
Description of Work: I purchased the home electrical inspection from Angie's List as I wanted to make sure we didn't have any potential fire hazards and specifically to find out if an electrical problem was causing our repeated pond pump failures. The electrical inspection revealed numerous wiring problems. In summary, they added, replaced or re-wired several GFCI outlets; relocated and wired a water feature outlet, added an exterior outlet near our air conditioner and brought a 220 outlet up to code.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and your fairness in working through an awkward situation. Effective communication is one of the keys to success in the service business and we did not communicate as effectively as we should have before beginning work in your home. We have changed our internal processes a bit due to the circumstances that occurred with the work done at your home. We also appreciate the "second chance" and are glad that you are pleased with the results.

Doug came out to give estimate about various jobs. Even though I had had another electrical company out to do whole house electrical inspection he spotted problems such as exposed wiring which previous electrician did not. Estimate acceptable and date set for work. Aaron and Lall arrived promptly along with Doug who reviewed jobs to be done. Both guys worked efficiently and quietly no music playing or yelling back and forth at each other. they started about 9am and finished about 6p. However, next day discoved that an outlet and garbage disposal did not work. Called Mike's and Arron came out first thing on Thursday morning. He solved problem in less than half an hour. Apparently a wire in panel which he had not moved became disconnected. Invoices for services (no charge for second visit) arrived within a couple of days of completion. Final cost was within ballpark of initial estimate considering cannot exactly estimate time and materials. Will call back for another job (more exposed wires) in a couple of months.
Description of Work: installed out door motion light; installed outlet for microwave; organized electrical panel; covered exposed wiring.

This was the second project we've had Mike's Electric work on, having had a great experience with the first project done in 2011. Tom's a great guy, performed the work perfectly, kept us informed about the project, and yet again we were pleasantly surprised when the invoice arrived. He was under budget on a large bidded job, and we couldn't be happier with Mike's Electric! Now we've got them doing yet another large project, and we're confident that we've got the right contractor on the job.
Description of Work: The first project was during 2011, and they had to run 6 circuits to a commercial kitchen, install lighting and more outlets, and then run power to a couple of commercial refrigerators that were previously on extension cords. This project was running dedicated circuits to another commercial refrigerator and freezer. And next week, they will be running power to a new rooftop HVAC system.

Mike's Electric had given us an estimate for this and other electrical work last summer, and they gave us the price that they had quoted us at that time. The electricians arrived exactly on time and finished all of the work in about 8 hours, which we had anticipated. In addition, as they were re-wiring the new panel, they noted and corrected dangerous wiring from the panel to our furnace. They did this at very modest extra cost. ($79.00 for extra labor/materials) My husband's quote...."on time and on budget"
Description of Work: Mike's Electric replaced our old electrical panel and installed new circuit breakers. They also did a re-wiring of the power from the panel to our furnace, which was incorrect and potentially dangerous. We had the entire panel and breakers replaced because we had been told by 3 different electricians that our panel was outdated and not safe. ( it was from the mid-seventies) They also arranged the inspection by the city electrical inspector. All we had to do was set a date and time.

Mike's had the highest estimate of three top-rated Angies providers who came out to bid on the work. Doug, the project supervisor and estimator, noted that his estimate approach was to factor in "worst case" scenario (based on known conditions). Even so, the actual bill was significantly higher (~50%) than the original estimate. Electrical work is bid on a time and materials basis - so the owner is responsible for any overages. Some of my project's overage was due to additional (add-ons) work requested and hardware. However, most of the overage was due to unforeseen effort to re-route power and install light rails, move can lights, and assemble and install some complex light fixtures. Also, the electricians encountered some structural challenges that took extra time to circumvent. Doug, and the entire team at Mike's, were very professional, thorough, and concerned about my customer experience and satisfaction. Tom and Lal (the electrician and his apprentice) were both extremely easy to work with. While this job resulted in a far more expensive outcome than I anticipated, I am confident that the job was well done from a quality perspective. I have zero regrets choosing Mike's. My key learning for any large projects in the future is that I will request a running total on hours charged so that I am not surprised with the bill at the end. I highly recommend Mike's Electric and would absolutely leverage their excellent services in the future.
Description of Work: The team re-routed a number of light switches, wired and added several outlets, wired new power drops for lights, installed numerous light fixtures and rail lights, and changed out out all the light switches on the first floor of our home. The effort involved 2-3 electricians full-time over the course of about 5 days.

The house is about 22 years old & we are considering selling or remodeling. Service Tech Tom Branch was prompt, professional, and obviously an expert in knowledge. Tom answered my many questions, offering advice on how to make corrections at reasonable cost. If we do remodel, I will hire Mike's Electric and ask for Tom to do the work. Overall - an A+++ experience.

First, the gentleman who came to give me quote back in mid-December took time to review my list and then inspect the entire home for each item. He was very thorough and returned a quote within a timely manner as this was holiday season. I received the quote on Dec. 23. I chose Mike's Electric mainly for their concern and taking time to break down the quote showing what needed to be handled first, and approximate costs of each problem area. I had 2 other quotes that were general and one figure for everything on the list, no detail and one much higher with lots of open end quoting, " we have to see when we get in there" plan, and the other quote much lower with nothing spelled out as to what work would be done for sure. The work was scheduled for first week in January, they were there 2 1/2 days, two employees came and immediately got to the tasks at hand. They were knowledgeable and started going down their list. Very professional and did everything to code. No shortcuts and I knew when they finished everything was done properly. We had to wait for one light fixture to be shipped to me. They were finished with everything at that point. Mike's Electric told me as soon as it arrived they would schedule someone to come back. They did within a day of my call. Last, they set up for City Inspector and now the job has been inspected and everything done. All the people I worked with from electricians who did the work, to people in the office, and schedulers were so helpful and knew the details of my job. They have excellent customer service which is very refreshing nowadays. I have found my Electric company for life!!!
Description of Work: I purchased a home built in 1900. The existing wiring was not up to code and had many safety issues. New circuits needed to be installed for water heater and washer. Many open junction boxes in basement. There was loose wiring in many areas, these were secured. Cleaned up wiring in panel and labeled panel to show location of each circuit. Attic had knob and tube wiring which needed work, then properly secured wiring and replaced melted junction box, also cleaned up and properly secured wiring in attic. Installed 4 light fixtures. Rewired front porch light that was not proper for outside use. Replaced 2 mis-wired outlets, and replaced or repaired other outlets to working ones. They replaced closet light with covered one, pantry light with an LED light instead of the loose wire fixture bulb hanging there. They basically repaired or replaced non-working outlets throughout the house.

The work was a little tricky since the house is old (1925), and the plaster was original. There was no easy way to get from the electrical box to some of the wall space so they did a lot of tracking wire through the walls without undue plaster damage. They were careful to help me select the can lights I would like best bringing a selection and prewiring them so that I wouldn't be unhappy with my choices. They had good advice about ceiling mounts and what would be too big or too small for my home, although we ended up using many fewer can lights than originally planned. Lal and Aaron were very careful and respectful of our space and Doug was wonderful to work with. I would use them again.

Job was pretty straight forward--removing old fixtures, switches and receptacles, and installing new replacements. However, one of the ceiling boxes for a light fixture had a problem (stripped screw or something) and took some expert tricks of the trade to make it work right to hold the light fixture. Services performed did not exceed The Big Deal I purchased from Angie's List which was "$99 for 2 Hours of Certified Electrical Work!" Additional charges were for materials Mike's Electric supplied--one GFCI and wire nuts.
Description of Work: Mike's electrician replaced three ceiling light fixtures, two light switches, and four electrical receptacles. I had purchased everything except one GFCI.

I have used Angie's list for a number of projects, and have been happy with everything so far, but this is an exception, and my first disappointment. The quality of the work was fine, but my complaint has to do with the time it all took, and the owner/manager's failure to get back to me with a solution to this problem. I have paid my bill in full, and will use this as a learning experience. My advice is to always ask for the quickest worker, and one who doesn't like to "chat". The electrician was a talker and literally sat in a chair in my living room thinking ,while his apprentice worked, for half an hour. Some of the work was performed simultaneously, but not much. The apprentice was very quick and diligent. I have no complaints there. Although the electrician was friendly and competent, he was not a quick worker, and talked all the time. I should have had the apprentice come for 15 minutes at house 1 and 1/2 hour at house two, and done the work on different days. An electrician working alone would have completed the tasks quicker.
Description of Work: I was told I needed to hire an electrician and an apprentice to do the jobs I needed done at two homes. The reasons stated were that the apprentice needed to hold the ladder for one stairwell light install at house 1, and then was needed again at house #2 to climb up into a crawl space because the electrician was too large. Because I also wanted a consult on adding overhead lighting to my living room in house #2, they chose this particular electrician. The idea was that the apprentice could work along side the electrician and they could finish all the jobs quicker. In house 1 they changed two chandeliers, two hall lights, and took down a broken track light. In house #2, they changed two bedroom lights, added a desk valence light, and installed a can light. I also had the consult for the living room.

I bought electricial service from Mike's on an Angie's list Big Deal (two hours of electricial work for $99). The work was scheduled for the very next day I called. The Electrician arrived on time and installed the new fixtures and replaced a GFI. At the end of the work he told me I still had 15 minutes on my Big Deal purchase and suggested a photo cell for my outside fixture. I thought it was a great idea and he promptly installed it. I would not hestiate to use Mike's Electric again. I don't think anyone would be disappointed by their work.

The inspection turned up a couple of minor issues, but nothing major (I was afraid of previous contractor's lack of competence) and the issues will be easily corrected. Had an outside light added w/switch, and had an inoperative three way switch repaired, and got estimates for other projects we'd been thinking of, but were afraid they'd cost too much to do. Mike's is fairly priced and Tom, who came to the house to do the work, is a pleasant and professional worker. Tom was on site for about 2.5 - 3 hours total and worked the entire time (about 1.5 - 2 hours for the estimate and the rest on the small projects). We will have Mike's Electric do the work we got estimates on and will certainly recommend them to anyone needing an electrician.

They were great to work with. We called them to have some work done when we closed on our new home, and had to change the schedule due to delayed closing. They were really great about returning all of my phone calls and getting me into their schedule as soon as they could. They showed up on time, and performed all of the tasks asked. They were very efficient and cleaned up after they left. I realized after the first time out that I forgot to have them do the plug behind the fridge, so I called and they were able to get back out to do it easily. I was very happy with their service and professionalism, and would definitely use them again!

I had used Mike's many years ago and although the ownership has changed they still provide the same quality of service I had experienced in the past. I have also referred numerous folks to Mike's over past years and have always received excellent feedback from anyone I have referred. The job on 12/2/11 was actually the second job I have had done within the last month as we are doing some bathroom re-modeling so my initial expectation and experience was the same for the second job. I also had the opportunity to work with two different electricans both of which were great with excellent technical, communication, and professionalism skills. Both jobs were completed as planned as I appreciated the quality of the workmanship and would certainly use Mike's for any future electrical needs.

The electrician showed up on time. We discussed the work we wanted done, and he gave an estimate of how long it would take. It took longer than the two hours we had paid for on the Angie's List deal, but the charge for the additional time and work was reasonable. He cleaned up meticulously after finishing. We would definitely hire Mike's Electric for future electric work.
