Arrived early after first calling to see if that would work for me.Two very courteous, clean, low key fellows. Even my kitties were relaxed.Changed electrical outlet so it wouldn't disconnect the power to the outlet where my computer plugs in, in the event an outlet is tripped. (which had happened dues to strange sequence in how electrical outlets were set up in my place.) Also fixed ceiling fan so it operates and quietly! I've been waiting to use this fan for a couple of years and had used someone else to install, who came back several times and charged a bundle, and never did resolve the issue. They also removed the light part of the fan at my request. Asked about installing a potlight in ceiling of my bathroom and I have arranged for them to return tomorrow to do that....so that speaks to my satisfaction with the service.

Very well. I'd spoken to Darryl the manager a few days before Darrell the electrician came over to take a look at our wiring. I explained that our ceiling lights in the kitchen were dimming and going off by themselves. Darryl asked whether there was a crawl space above the kitchen. I told him there was, but it was very, very small. He suggested having an apprentice accompany the electrician, as the apprentice was a small man and could probably fit in the very tight space. Darryl had said something to the effect that it would be necessary for the electrician to be present when the lights went on and off to try to trace where the problem was. I almost cancelled the appointment, because I thought the chances of this happening in the space of a few minutes while the electrician happened to be present was pretty small, and I'd be a $150 poorer for it. I'm so glad I didn't cancel the appointment, but I wish I'd taken Darryl's advice and had the apprentice come, too. Apprentices are cheaper ($50/hr vs. $100/hr for a journeyman). As it turned out, the crawlspace above one of the lights was so small it was necessary to call in a second journeyman (at another $100 an hour--the apprentice was not available, but Darrel found another journeyman, another small man) and they found the problem; they showed me the faulty wiring. It was in very bad shape, frayed, with insulation missing in spots. Darrel said it was likely that within a month we would have had a major fire. It ended up costing a lot more than we expected. We were expecting $100-150. It ended up costing us a little under $500, but maybe it saved our lives, who knows? We would highly recommend them. We've used other electricians, but none as thorough and professional.

Communication was good; talked to Mgr Darryl a couple of times, and callback receptionist twice saying "we're coming ___ will you be there?". They also had work overages and had to reschedule and push date out a week. (No stress there; not critical) Actual work times & comments: A) ~ 50 mins - Incredible ingenuity by electrician Darrel (no, not Darryl manager) to get this done quickly, efficiently and with minimal invasion. Super loud saw, but no issues with the work. B) ~ 10 mins - I had thought there was no pull room on the wire, or I'd have finished this myself; Darrell carefully just yanked the wire, and poof! There it was... no issue: he just pulled it on out, re-did it and buttoned it back up. C) ~ 1 min: nothing wrong and nothing to do. Told me the tiny size of the room and the tile = noisy. No prob. D) ~ 60 mins - This one was a bit of a surprise to run that long, with all the ingenuity and efficiency on the fan job and this one seeming much more straightforward. But, hey... No worries. It was well done, efficient and and we appreciate it. Billing: When I got the bill for 2.75 hrs plus $47 in parts I was perplexed. My references from our security logs showed right at 2 hrs. And materials seemed high at $47, unless we're talking 300-400% retail markup? Review and Analysis: Time & materials seemed inflated. I am a Fraud/Security Analyst by trade, so pardon the scrutiny, but when billing doesn't match a job, my analyst kicks in. As I mentioned to the electrician when he was here, we have a highly-monitored, well-tracked "smart home" with detailed logs. All three areas where he was working were integrated nodes of our creature's Big Brother brain, with everything logged. Total time in the house (including time chatting with me about things unrelated to the job)... was just over 2 hrs. So I sent an email asking for clarification before I wrote a review. Vendor's Clarification: Got an email back from Manager Darryl quoting work order times. Billing time started BEFORE he arrived and continued AFTER he left, according to our system logs. As Darryl said in his email: <<We also bill a flat 15 minutes of travel (regardless of previous location)>>. I missed the travel time fine print in Deal's wording. But even adding 15 mins, it was still over. --- As for itemization, he said: << In terms of material, the big item was an electrical box for the fan ($18). They are fairly spendy since they are built to hold significant weight. Two additional electrical boxes were required, along with wire, outlet/plate, mudring, pigtail for grounding, then miscellaneous anchors, screws and connectors.>> (Bear in mind the installer told / showed me he did NOT use the fancy fan box he brought) $ for the other pieces didn't add up. High at $15 retail; let alone $47) So manager Darryl's email said <<feel free to deduct $24.50>> I think more like 2-3X that, but the point is, why disingenuously pad it in the first place? I don't disrespect the work. It was top quality, neat, professional. But it sounds like a separate cost center for this company might be padding the billing for both time and materials? Grades: I deducted 1 point in PRICE for padded billing. All in all, I'd probably have these guys come do a job again. But next time I'd stick to my intuition and get some billing numbers before he left. ( I had asked to pay by check or CC, but he said "We'll bill you." )
Description of Work: We were brought to Mike's Electric by their Angie's List Deal, Two-Hours-Billed as One, for $99. I left an email msg with things I wanted them to do: A) Unmount and remount a ceiling fan with a certified fan box B) Tweak thermostat wiring whose insulation was stripped and no pull room left C) Check a bathroom fan to see if it's too noisy or just normal D) Add an outlet on one side of a wall where an extension cord was just pulled through wall by previous tenant

Response from Mike's Electric
We enjoyed working with this member and always appreciate constructive comments. Member's comments are a bit misleading, so we'd like to clarify. After receiving our invoice, member sent an e-mail advising us that his security logs showed our arrival at 10:53 a.m. and departure at 1:14 p.m. or 2 hours and 21 minutes (not the "right at 2 hours" referenced in his review. The Big Deal information AND the e-mail sent to him prior to our appointment both reference 15 minutes of travel being added to our time on-site, so he had been provided this information not once, but twice. So even using member's calculation this job consumed 2 hours 36 minutes, very close to the 2.75 hours that he was billed. Our electrician showed his arrival time at 10:45 a.m. (8 minutes difference) and departure time of 1:15 p.m. (1 minute difference). There is no way we are going to argue over such a small difference in time, so we quickly agreed to reduce our invoice to account for the 9 minutes difference. The fan box that we installed has a cost to us of $14.44, we charged $18.00 (our normal 20% markup). What we didn't install (and is often required for a ceiling fan) is a brace - which would have added another $17.00. We don't think we padded the billing, but again, we appreciate the member's comments and his business!

Electrician arrived on time, discussed the work, and suggested the optimal way to route power to the desired location. He began immediately and was great about giving me updates on the progress. I had used the Angie's coupon to prepurchase the first 2 hours of labor, so he was diligent keeping me appraised of the expected finish time, which was a little over 2 hours. I don't think the job could have been done any faster. The work was 100% professional and came out great.

The project went according to plan. they started on time with a great team of professionals and completed the project on time. A couple of little issues or workarounds came up during the somewhat tricky project and we were able to come up with good solutions. The yard is 3 tiered and took some creativity to figure out how to accomplish all the lighting and power needs I would need as the landscaping was finished. Thank goodness they thought of some things I hadn't to save me time down the road. Everything turned out great and I fully enjoyed working with everyone they had associated with the project. I would not hesitate to use them and again and would recommend them to anyone in need of electrical work.

As soon as we we're given the keys to the house, we called Mike's Electric andthey sent someone out the next day. For about 2.5 days Donny basically camped out at our house, doing all the workdescribed in the home inspection, as well as other things that needed to be donethat hadn't been found during the inspection. He was great! Also, very flexible --if say we asked him to put an extra outlet somewhere, he was completely agreeable --even though the job was turning out to be a lot more involved than originallyanticipated by all parties. In the end we got all the work (and then some) done, at a reasonable price, andwere completely happy in all regards. I can't more highly recommened thiscompany for any electrical work.
Description of Work: We had just purchased a new home. The seller indicated that they would prefer togive us a credit towards the house purchase in lieu of doing repairs that the homeinspection turned up. This included a significant amount of electrical work. Weagreed to this, and called up Mike's Electric do the work.

I was in the process of purchasing a home. I just had a home inspection done that found several issues that made it necessary to contact an electrician. I was under a deadline that had to be met. I used Angie's List which lead me to Mike's Electric. I provided the contact information to my realtor that in turn contact Mikes Electric. They were prompt, courteous, thorough and spent the time to educate me on several aspects of home wiring. The electrician and assistant did a full electrical inspection and evaluated the electrical panel for possible replacement. They did the job promptly but took the time to explain what was needed and taught me several things during the end of the service. I will definitely bring these guys back.
Description of Work: Tested all electrical switches and outlets. Reviewed Cadet heaters for replacement. Verified wiring to switches for functionality. Reviewed open splices and made recommendations for corrections. Reviewed and checked Federal panel to determine risk for fire. Located and advised corrections for unsafe outlets. Reviewed all corrections required to make home safe and operational.

Originally, we asked them to repair a ceiling fan that we didn't feel comfortable attempting to repair ourselves, because we ran into a mysterious mass of corroded & incorrectly marked wires. Since they were coming out anyway we ordered the special $99 whole house electrical inspection. They caught a couple of problems, such as ungrounded outlets and an improper sized dryer wire that had been installed when we had a new breaker panel put in by someone else a few years ago. The tenant had complained about circuits blowing when they used more than one appliance in the kitchen, so we also asked Mike's to check to see if the kitchen needed a larger breaker. After checking the breaker, and questioning the tenant, he determined that the tenant had been using a window air conditioner that needed to be plugged into an entirely different type of outlet so was overwhelming the system. We also had Mike's install a whole house surge protector and replace some worn out outlets. The tenant tried to get Mike's to do a few extra things that weren't necessary, but Mike's checked with us first to make sure we wanted them to do the extra work. We were very impressed by the technician's thoroughness, and communications with us. We are confident Mike's knows what they are doing, and they didn't push us to do things that weren't required. In fact, they offered suggestions that allowed us to accomplish what we needed in the most cost effective way. They were very knowledgable, professional, and on time. Mike's will definitely be our new preferred electrician.
Description of Work: Rewired ceiling fan, installed whole house surge protector, checked for larger breaker needs, replaced worn outlets, replaced improperly sized dryer wire, and did whole house electrical inspection.

Darrel and his helper showed up on time, took care to cover their shoes while in the home, performed the work quickly and cleaned up well after themselves. Darrel explained everything he was doing and happily answered all my questions thoroughly. Identifying all the receptacles on the string and investigating each one to find the error took some doing. The culprit was a neutral that was "stabbed" behind the screw-down bracket. He showed me how it was done, and the resulting melted plastic where the wire made contact with the device. Both Darrel and his helper were amiable and pleasant to work with, and very patient with my questions.
Description of Work: Installed bathroom fan timer, chased down incorrectly installed neutral on a receptacle that knocked the power out in a string. Rewired microwave to put it on a dedicated circuit and changed out a worn breaker.

The guys were great. They showed up on time, were cheerful and efficient. They also gave me some great information about quirky things old electrical systems do. Mine is from 1927 and I have three panels! Go figure. They also gave me some things to think about for when I replace the electrical in my home - which isn't a matter of if so much as when.

Purchased a house in mid 2011 and finally got around to doing some major electrical work. We had a variety of internal electrical issues, plugs, external lighting/driveway lighting. Also rerouted some internal circuits/wiring to stabilize some overloading, and put in some floor outlets in our living room. Also needed to work with PGE to do some external rewiring with the power into our house, and relocate our meter box.
