It went fine. We got 2 hours of electrical work for $99, and could have had a few more jobs done if we had them lined up since the folks from Mike's worked quickly.

We originally purchased a $99 Anglie's List coupon. We set up an appointment. He was on time, worked on all the projects we identified, was extremely competent and fast. We would definitiely use Mike's Electric again.

Excellent service beginning with the initial call. I had called a number of electricians for quotes on this job and Mike's genuinely seemed interested in the work. The tech arrived early which was very appreciated and the work was completed to our satisfaction quickly.

When I switch the speed on my overhead fan, the process causes the television to go blank (as if turned off) momentarily and then return to normal. About a year ago, I had a handyman investigate. He replaced the ceiling fan's wall switch. This did not solve the problem but he had no other ideas. I finally decided that the risk of something really negative happening was weighing on my mind too heavily. FIRST I called and got an estimate for work from somebody else a friend recommended - they did zero evaluation, just quoted a big project which, I later learned, would have been completely unnecessary. THANKFULLY, I had just rejoined Angie's list and decided to call Mike's. The woman who answered my call, listened to my strange situation and explained that they would need to evaluate before giving an estimate and I would need to pay for that time. I understood and agreed. We found a compatible date just a couple days later. The electrician was delayed but called to let me know. He was polite, listened to my situation which, being a tad intermittent was challenging, to say the least. He tested the circuits, determined that one of my concerns -- about two rooms being on the same circuit was not a problem - the room were indeed on their own circuit breaker. (something the "other" company, without checking, said they would need to do a lot of work on to create a new circuit line) He did find one outlet was loose and showing signs of age, and replaced that with my agreement. Some of the other outlets had been replaced by handymen over the years, and he confirmed those connections were solid, not loose and not arcing. In the end, we (he?) narrowed it down to the windings on the fan motor being the likely culprit. The fan is going on 23 years of use, so I suppose it could use a good cleaning and or is showing signs of age. But, it still works and the problem is intermittent. My key concern was about fire hazard and component (television) breakdown. I am comfortable that these will not be an issue. For now, I am waiting until the fan quits working completely and then will replace it -- MIke's could help me then.

The 2 man crew arrived around 8:30am and got right to work. They first removed the old light fixtures from the bath rooms so that I can do touch up paint work before installing the new fixtures. They then moved to removing the old exhaust fans and 3" tubing. They then moved to the attic to install the new 4" tubing for the fans. Fans were then installed along with digital timers for the bath rooms. Light fixtures were then installed. They put in the light bulbs and tested everything out. The usage of the fans with the timers was explained and all questions were answered. Everything was cleaned up and they made sure that we were happy with the whole project before they left. All areas were cleaned up and left as they found them. The crew was very professional and very easy to work with. We are very happy with our new light fixtures and really like the new very quiet fans.
Description of Work: Removed old outdated light fixtures from guest and master bath. Replaced with new light fixtures. Removed 50cfm exhaust fans from guest bath, master bath and laundry room. Installed new 110cfm quiet fans in these rooms.

The initial phone call was with the business owner. He was excellent and very patient while figuring out just what I needed. He explained that a new Oregon code requires bathroom fans to be on a timer and said that they stocked these in their vehicles. I explained what I would like and he had it. We scheduled service for later that week, I believe. Two guys came, both very nice and friendly to me and my dog. They were very clean and careful, which I appreciated. They protected my tile floor and carpeted bedroom with tarps. They had no problem with anything, to my knowledge. When we realized that the chandelier would be hanging really low even if we took all the chain links out, they devised an appropriate way to mount it even higher to the ceiling. And like I said, they even repaired something that I had not even remembered needed fixing, which was an excellent touch.
Description of Work: We had an old light/fan combo in our bathroom ceiling that was replaced with a new, different one. At the same time, the fan switch was upgraded to a new code. Also, we needed a small chandelier installed in a bedroom ceiling where there was no electrical box. Mike's ran wiring from an existing switch and centered the fixture right where we wanted it. Above and beyond: when the guys were walking up to our house, the assistant noticed that our outdoor outlet was coming out of the wall because it had been attached improperly by the builder with nails and not screws. He fixed it without me even asking.

Everything was quick, enjoyable and professional. Tom has a very easy demeanor and was super nice to our animals. He even fixed a gate on his way out that's been sagging something awful. Bonus! Would definitely like to see either of these guys back again. I think Mike's Electric just made lifelong customers out of us.
Description of Work: We just bought a house and there were a few minor electrical problems. Switches and outlets not working, and a light in the basement room that actually started on fire when we tried it (!). We've been living with these things for about 6 months, but decided enough is enough. Called Mike's based on the reviews, and couldn't be happier. Tom & Brad were our pros. They fixed a light switch, an outlet, and the firey light fixture in less than an hour. They also checked around and gave us a quote on a couple of jobs we'd like done sometime soon.

Workers (2) were on time, even calling to say they were on their way. They were polite, asked the right questions, were professional, and picked up after themselves. In fact every step of the process was top shelf. Their card is now on my refrigerator. Need I say more. PS price reflects Angies list deal of $99 for two hours electrical work.
Description of Work: Added an overhead light in the living area in a one story house. This required workers to go into attic, tap into an existing junction box, run a line to and install new junction box, then run a line to the existing single wall switch and convert it to a double wall switch. They also installed the new lighting fixture (which I had purchased) While in the attic worker noticed the whole house fan was not properly wired - they had just spliced into an existing line and taped it all together. I had them redo this so it is now to code.

I bought a coupon through Angie's list for two hours of work for $99. He showed up on time, did the work i asked. However, he forgot something and had to wait for someone to bring it. He told me i wouldn't be charged for this. I asked him to do as much work as he could in the time that was allowed in the coupon. Unfortunately, once he got started, he coudln't get finished in the right amount of time. I asked him to finish the work. When he was finished, i asked if he had a bill for me and he said it would be sent. It was more than expected and i had nothing to compare it with. The company is fine but I won't work with them again. I'll use my usual electrical company. I just thought that for simple work, this would be a good deal. As it turned out, it wasn't cheaper so I won't do it again.

Work went well and both Darrell and Brad were professional and pleasant. Brad was quick to return to the shop for additional supplies as scope of project changed.
Description of Work: Installed new lighting fixtures and added an addition light switch in bathroom. Darrell and Brad did a great job cleaning up after performing work and worked around cabinet contents without expressing concern. They used cut drywall to patch holes left from fixture change which outside of the scope of the job. Thanks! I would use again and do recommend for future home improvement projects.

Went well, other than them missing one of the thermostats to remove. I thought a little too expensive. But good prompt service is a plus.
Description of Work: Two men showed up on time. Disconnected 7 of 8 thermostats for old, non used ceiling heat and disconnected in the attic, cutting the drywall and taking out the wires. They missed 1 of them unfortunately. Disconnected and removed old ceiling exhaust fan in kitchen, disconnected and removed old ceiling fan in familyroom and replaced wires for new light fixture- added light switch. Added new electrical hook up for Microwave/vent for over the stove. Checked electrical to outdoor workshop and patio lights- recommended re-wiring- did not have this done. This took a lot longer than I expected and the labor fees and hours, seemed high in cost, I was told approximately $600. So was not expecting almost a $1000 bill.

It went pretty well. We got about 5 bids for replacing the knob & tube wiring in our attic (in prep for selling the house). Mike's Electric was the lowest estimate, around $2200. The other companies were closer to $3000, even up to $3800. We went with Mike's to save money. They were very prompt about getting us the estimate and also scheduling the work. They advised us to remove all insulation (nasty work!) before they did the work to save us quite a bit of money. The day they were scheduled to work in the attic was the hottest day of the year, so they worked 2 mornings instead of one day. Unfortunately on the 2nd day they realized the attic wiring was in worse shape than expected- so it ended up costing us $3000 after a discount for angie's list. We were disappointed it cost so much more, but it was in line with the other estimates. We spoke with Doug & Darrell and really thought highly of both of them & their workers. They did a great job and we would hire them again!

The electrician arrived on time and immediately set to work; he was very efficient. We thought we needed a new outlet for a particularly heavy electricity-usage area. He suggested that we convert to a GFI and purchase a surge suppressor outlet strip instead as a way to accomplish what we wanted and to save some money. We appreciated his guidance on that matter. The Angies List coupon (labor reduced by 2 hours) was very helpful as we retired folks watch our financial outlays extra closely. We were able to correct some issues that had been unresolved for a long time. All of our interactions with Mike's Electric, from requesting the work, reminders from Mike's about the scheduled time, and a follow-up call from Mike's, were pleasant and easy. We would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Replaced entry outlet with GFI; reset breaker for kitchen circuit; replaced outlet in dining room that was broken; removed broken lamp base from microwave and outside light; replaced motion sensor on house.
