It went FANTASTIC! I called Mike's Electric at about 10:30am with my issue and they were able to get someone out to the house by 1:30pm that afternoon. The two gentlemen that showed up listened to what I had found, what I had tried to do, and what the issue was. They then went to work checking outlets and running down the root cause. It ended up that an inspector had tripped a GFI circuit and NOT reset it. The only bad news was that the circuit that was tripped was to our freezer in the garage so all of our meet and frozen goods had gone bad. The men that did the work were fast, courteous, professional, and very conscious of their movements to make sure they didn't leave any dirt or parts after they were done. Overall the peace of mind was worth the call - let alone the work they did and the speed at which they worked was great.
Description of Work: Tracked down an electrical issue that had shut off power to four (4) outlets in our home.

Two electricians arrive just before the scheduled appointment time. Aaron and his partner were professional, friendly and efficient. They identified both known and unknown electrical issues during the inspection. They provided a complete job bid with each task itemized and priced. I would recommend them again.

Arrived early and worked long hours. Took longer than estimated, partly due to complexity of hanging light fixtures, so okay with me. Also added tasks beyond the estimate, including showing me how to remove and replace plugs. Enjoyable to work with.

I put my house on the market in March of this year. Previous to that I had Mike's come in and rewire four and a half rooms. They ended up replacing the panel due to unforeseen problems with the existing one. All the work was permitted and it passed the city inspection. But when the buyer sent over a home inspector, he found more wiring problems. Since these were issues Mike's had not addressed in their original work at my house, I called them up and asked them to fix what was still wrong. It took two people 6-1/4 hours to complete the work. They never had the city out to inspect the work. During the next home inspection, the wiring again failed to meet standards especially where I had told them to focus their efforts. Bummer!
Description of Work: installed GFCI receptacles in kitchen, bathroom, laundry room. Removed wiring from a room in the basement. Corrected improper wiring for a bathroom fan.

Response from Mike's Electric
We have done a significant amount of work for this member and we appreciate her business and taking the time to post a review. Regrettably, she did not contact us with her concerns before posting this review. We have contacted her and assured her that any work that we did that did not pass a city electrical inspection would be corrected quickly and at our expense. Our original work was done under a full electrical permit and was approved by the city electrical inspector. The second portion of work was done under a state-issued electrical permit due to its limited scope. An inspection of work done under this permit is not required for every permit that is issued, but instead is done on a random basis. We have not been advised by the city that an inspection was completed and our work was not approved. We have asked member to provide us with whatever report she has that indicates our work was done improperly. We have also offered to have one of our supervisors meet with her to inspect the property. There were numerous electrical issues with this home prior to us beginning work, not all of which we were requested to correct. We believe that it was these items, not our actual work, that is the source of concern. We stand behind our work. If the work we did does not comply with current electrical code, it will be corrected quickly and at no expense to the owner. At this point, however, we haven't been supplied with any specifics - even though we have requested them.

As usual, the electricians showed up on time and got right to work. They determined that much of the wiring in our problem area was not done in a professional or standard manner. The extent of the bad wiring job was significant, but they were able to complete this unexpected work as well as make all the switch fixes/changes in a couple hours. We've never had anything but the best experience using Mike's Electric, and this was no exception. We like them so much we still call them to do our work even though we've moved 30 miles further away from their shop.
Description of Work: Several original electrical switches that were not properly installed were rewired and/or replaced so that multiple switches for the same light fixtures would work together as expected. A timer switch for a bathroom fan was rewired and replaced. Previous wiring done below code was redone to meet standards.

Everything went like clock work. I called and explained the problem. They arrived at the time agreed. They brought along a replacement pole. They set up a tarp to prevent damage to the lawn. They removed the old pole anchor. This took a long time due to anchor being cemented. After that they installed the pole and the light fixture. Everything was handled in a very professional manner and made the process very easy.

The service call went great. He showed up on time, actually early, and was extremely efficient. The plug was replaced and the water feature was working again. Then he knew I had more time left on my deal, so he asked if I needed anything else done. How great is that?! I will definitely use them again and recommend them too.

Tom and another man arrived at the appointed time. They were both very pleasant. I told them what I needed and showed them where to install the outlet. They did the work quickly, then showed me the features of the piece they had installed. The only negative about the experience was a bill I received a few days later for materials, which was higher than I expected.

Description of Work: They were awesome. Showed up on time and did exactly what I needed done in a timely and efficient fashion. My only complaint wasn't to do with them but the overall purchase. Mike's Electric did a very good job however the bill came in much higher than I had anticipated. I would use them again however I would get a firm bid to begin with and hold them to it. They are excellent, and they did the work while I was not at home, the installers were asking my son questions but he is not the one paying the bills so I guess it was just a misunderstanding. They are the first ones that I have ever had that I haven't been satisfied with overall.

I bought the 2 hour labor coupon and several weeks later contacted the company for service. I mentioned the projects I had in mind and because one was outdoor low voltage lighting the company sent an estimator for that project. Recontacted company to set up the appointment to have 4 projects done, including installation of a low voltage transformer for the low voltage lights (to be installed at a later date). All went well in that the electrician arrived on time and accomplished all tasks within the 2 hours (including travel). Cheers.
Description of Work: Using a labor "coupon" for 2 hours (15 min travel) had the following done: Fix inoperable ceiling lights in rec room (mouse disconnected wiring in attic) Replace broken dimmer switch in bathroom Install surge protector (for house) in main electrical panel - customer provided Install transformer for low voltage outdoor lighting

So impressed! Last year this company came and added multiple outlets to a room. At the time I was happy with their work, but even more impressed recently. An outlet box came out of the wall a few months ago and when we contacted Mike's Electric, they came back and did a very nice job re-installing it. The electrician was extremely polite and apologetic that it happened and was very thorough in securing it again. We were not charged at all. I have recommended this company to others! Finally and electrician I feel like I can recommend!!

Excellent work. Have used Mike's Electric before. What was really great was that I had to leave town the day of the scheduled work. There was nobody home to give them access to the house. Because I trust them based on prior experience, I gave them the security code to the garage. They completed the work in under two hours, and mailed me an invoice. Everything was completed to plan.

Doug McCauley came out to give an estimate only a few days after our phone call. He spent a good amount of time looking carefully at our situation, explained clearly what needed to be done given the age of the house and told us that most of the outlets on the main floor were already grounded so work there would be less difficult. Although the estimate was considerably higher than that of another company, we decided to go with Mike's. They seemed to us to be so much better organized than the other company that we felt we could fully trust them. Indeed, the two young, exceptionally pleasant electricians who did the work knew exactly what they were doing. It was not an easy job since additional wire had to be brought up from the basement to the attic and into the designated rooms , all according to new city code. We were completely satisfied with the great job they did. We will look to them for our future electrical needs.
Description of Work: Second floor outlets in our old house needed to be updated. We wanted a grounded outlet in the master bedroom and an additional outlet (grounded) in the study. We decided to postpone further electrical work in the guest room and on the main floor.

WARNING: THE COMPANY ASSERTS THEY GIVE YOU AN 'ESTIMATE" AND THEN BILLED ON LABOR AND MATERIALS- A $2,000.00 DIFFERENCE!!!. We received a bid amount from Mike's for rewiring the electrical in our garage and some work in the basement. The estimates apparently were lower than ithe time it took the electricians to complete the work based on whatever their hourly charge is, so we received a bill based on time and materials that was $2,000.00 more than the bid. They double billed amounts, we have a work bench area where they put in new lights and cut off all outlets (I will have to get a different electrician to come repair that). I paid the bill based on the bid. They continue to assert that they want another $2,000.00. HIRE THIS COMPANY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!!! We first met representatives of Mike's Electric when we responded to the $89.00 special to inspect our home for electrical issues. We paid on Angie's list and they thereafter come out for the inspection. I met with Doug and he gave me a letter dated 2/16/13 outlining the proposed work with specific amounts for different units. In the notes section, it says: "This is an estimate for budgeting purposes. Cost could vary due to unseen foreseen variables." We accepted the bid and advised Doug of that. The final billing statement listed additional work that was done and itemized the costs for those items as I had discussed with Doug. I paid a total amount of $4,360.31 based on those bids amounts discussed with me. Some of the items, such as a new receptable for the washer ($250.00) were done without anyone's approval. Doug said the City of Portland Inspector would require that. He didn't though; he never even went to the basement. In sum, I paid for ALL WORK done based on the bids provided by Doug either in his initial letter of February 16 or his Invoice of March 6. When I compared the two statements, however, I noted that (a) some items were double billed, and (b) work that had been cancelled was not credited. So in a very lengthy letter of April 1 (when I paid the bill), I detailed those items. Correspondence continued. The company continued to threaten to lien the property so I paid the additional sum of $2,158.00 that Mike's Electric demanded - under protest of course- in order to avoid a lien being filed on the property. Then I requested medication of the matter in order to recover the $2,158.00.

Response from Mike's Electric
1. This wasn’t, and never was, a “bid job” as member asserts. A copy of our estimate is attached. Clearly stated in many places (and in the accompanying e-mails) is the reference to “estimate”. Furthermore, in our general notes we clearly state “This is an estimate for budgeting purposes only. Cost could vary due to unforeseen circumstances.” (A copy of the estimate we provided her, and that she accepted, is attached). 2. The work at Ms. Briggs’ home consisted of work upstairs and work downstairs. When Doug, our estimator, met with her, she took him through the upstairs and discussed the items she wanted done in that area. However, in the downstairs area she turned our estimator over to her “partner” (we believe in some instances she also referred to him as her husband) to have him discuss what they wanted in that area (this is the same person she claimed could not authorize work). Her comment was that her partner took care of the “technical” aspects and that she would manage the money. We were clearly led to believe this was her preferred division of responsibilities. We take exception to her comment that only she “could contract for services” in consideration of the above aspects. We do understand that she wanted to be involved with any changes. 3. Her partner changed the scope of work on the first day. Our electrician immediately advised her partner that would add cost to the project. He was told “that’s what we want.” One of our supervisors called the member immediately after this to discuss with her. She was not available at the time, nor did she return the message left for her. The same supervisor called her the next day, again left a message, again the call was not returned. The owner called her on the third day to express his concern over her lack of response and the escalating direction of the project requested by her partner. She admitted she had received our two previous phone calls, but had been “too busy” to return them. She did meet with our estimator that afternoon and approved many of the items requested by her partner. 4. We took the initiative immediately after the project scope was changed to discuss the added cost with member. Had she returned our phone call on the first day we could have made whatever adjustments were necessary to give her more control over the scope changes and the resulting cost increase. Her failure to do this in anything resembling a timely manner was the primary reason our final invoice exceeded our estimate by such a significant amount.
