Mike's Electric

The service was excellent; the technician was efficient, courteous, and very skilled. Since we installed this tool, even light bulbs seem to be lasting longer. I highly recommend it.

I'd had a good experience using Mike's Electric for a small project in our old house last fall. When it came time for some major projects in our new home, I called them up. I first scheduled an estimate for a long list of upgrades several weeks in the future, but I foolishly scheduled them to come sooner to install three chandeliers without an estimate because I was impatient to get the old eye-sores out. The two electricians who arrived to install the chandeliers were extremely pleasant and professional, but everything took far longer than I had expected based on my previous experience having chandeliers replaced at my last house (three as a matter of fact). Every step of the installation process was the subject of extensive discussion as the journeyman electrician talked through everything with the apprentice. In the end, I believe that the work was well done. When I received the invoice the next week, I was surprised at the charge, even with the Angie's List discount. However, as I was admittedly foolish enough to schedule the work without an estimate, I figured I deserved it. When I later compared the three estimates from Mike's Electric and two other top-rated Angie's List contractors for all the major lighting upgrades, I was struck by how much higher Mike's Electric charged for everything across the board. In the end, they were $522 more than the first contractor and $684 more than the second (on a roughly $3,200 job). They're great to work with, they do good work, but they're not competitively priced compared to other comparable and highly rated electrical contractors. While I enjoyed working with them, it's unlikely that I'd use them again for future projects.

I wasn't able to keep our appointments, but he was willing to honor the big deal about a year later. He sent 2 guys and they changed 5-7 lights in that timeframe. They were very easy to work with. I even saved his phone number.

It worked our really well and we have used him a couple of times since then. He is our electrician now. They were professional and friendly. The scheduling is good and they can get you in right away.

Two electricians (journeyman and apprentice) arrived on time and we were pleased with their work, attitude, neatness and ability to communicate to us non-electricians.

I have an old house, and there was electrical issues that they found. They brought the house up to code. They were very professional and it only took a couple of hours.

They did the work and the work they did was done well. They ended up charging extra time and I thought that it was exorbitant. I think the total bill came in to $700 and that included the Big Deal plus the extra. I think that I was overcharged. They did reduce the bill by about 10%, but I still thought for the work done it was exorbitant. The work was done professionally and I'm sure it took to code, but still I thought it was overpriced. I was happy with the work that they did. I will use them again with the caveat that I will get a much more detailed quote.

Everything went well. They arrived on time and did the work required. The work involved cutting holes in the wall and ceiling. They ran wires to dimmer and light. They installed the light. At one point they left the building for a break. They returned and completed the job. There were no technical problems. The job was finished on time. . There was also an apprentice who provided assistance. They both conducted themselves very well. The cost was $550 + the Angie's list coupon which seemed high. It's not clear to me that the Angie's list coupon is really a great deal.

Couldn't do exactly what I intended due to new code updates, but was able to come up with a good plan B to take care of the needed updates between tenants. Showed up on time, knew the trade, put tarps down for the demo work, clean installations, ended up close to their estimated time, explained what was to be done and cleaned up afterwards. This is the third job that Mike's has done for us.

Added a 220v line for a hot tub. Everything went smoothly. I would gladly call on Mike's again.

Great! They guys were very prompt in their work and thorough in their explanations to help me understand what was the best placement as well as code requirements for the outlet. Darryl was great in the scheduling. We put a date on the calendar. As they had cancellations, he called (multiple times) to see if that earlier time might work in my schedule. None ever did but the scheduled date turned out to be ok as I encountered other delays in related work anyway. Great to work with. Would definitely use them again!

I think the work that had to be done was easy assuming that one knew anything about electricity (this is not me). It was, however, an emergency because there was a short in the outlet that provided the electricity to my thermostat. Without electricity to the thermostat, the furnace wouldn't turn on and we were COLD. I called several electricians around town and no one could do a same-day appointment (and I was starting to get desperate because it was COLD in my house and I have an infant). The receptionist at Mike's didn't have anyone available but when I explained the situation and confirmed our proximity to their office, there was someone at my house in 20 minutes!!! The heat was working 20 minutes after that (I think it was very easy to do). They came and helped me out and I am VERY appreciative and will not hesitate to use them again or to recommend their services

The man (whose name escapes me) was courteous and helpful. He explained everything and was even early. I appreciated the company fitting in an appointment during a very busy time. I

Kurt and Jason were on time and went right to work to locate problem. Unfortunately house had old wiring and many circuit modifications and add-ons, so it took longer than I anticipated. However they were very thorough and fixed things that could be a source of future problems as they went along.

Didn't know electrical code requirements.

Darryl was so helpful in guiding us to get the correct part. Immediate responses. Finally had to order it through Home Depot. Once we had the part, Doug came, made sure it was actually a bad ballast, and then installed the part. We are elderly and disabled so doing the work ourselves was out of the question. Very honest, professional and friendly. Will definitely use them again.

The did respond immediately to correct the problem later.

I called and got a bid over the phone for running new 220 electrical plug to a new dryer -- we moved it about five feet so we could have a stackable washer/dryer combo. Over the phone, I got a "ballpark" estimate of $305 for the service. However, when the job was completed, the final cost was $554. The stated reason was that the dryer was further away from the junction box than I stated, but only by about 18 inches. Also, I was billed for both journeyman AND apprentice labor, where the bid estimated two hours of journeyman labor only. The work was well-done, but if I were to use this company in the future, I would get an in-person, more accurate estimate before hiring them.

After having another electrical company reschedule twice and then not show up, It was refreshing to have Mike's complete the job. When I first called on 12/17/2013, there schedule was full until after the 1st of the year and Darryl provided two other companies names. Before I could even call the other companies, he called me back indicating they had a technician that was running about two and a half hours ahead of schedule in the area and he could come if someone was available at home. Needless to say my wife was ecstatic in getting the oven working before Christmas. Can't say enough about there professionalism. Dick Sylvester

Kurt and Alex arrived and immediately went to work to install my new kitchen range. Due to the age of my home the job required an outlet be installed in order to plug in the new appliance. Unfortunately, as they were about to bring in the new range Kurt discovered that it was 1/32" larger then the cabinet opening. Kurt measured several times and there was no way it would fit even though the top measurement was the same on both ranges (Murphy's law). Obliviously, I needed someone to modify the cabinet to fit the new range. I told Kurt to leave the old range in the kitchen (unconnected) while I contacted someone who had done some cabinet work for me. Kurt left his card and told me to call him if the work couldn't be done quickly (before the holidays) and he would come back and reconnect my old range so I could use my kitchen. As it turned out, the cabinet modification will need to be done after the first of the year. I called Kurt and let him know the situation and he went above and beyond to re-connect my "old" range so I could use my kitchen for the holidays. I can't thank him enough for going the extra mile.

On time, very nice and professional, will use again.

No work done yet (planning for February), but the company seems very helpful and customer-centered, judging from early communication. I mistakenly purchased the wrong Big Deal and getting a refund was no problem. The refund process on Angie's List's side requires that I review the company, or I would have waited until work was actually completed.

My experience with Mike's Electric has been exceptional. I purchased the home inspection coupon from Angie's list and two people came and did a very thorough inspection of the house I'd recently purchased. This house has a lot of do-it-yourself work done and I was concerned about some of the work. I also had some optional enhancements bid during this process. The work estimates came back with a comprehensive, clear, prioritized list of items with estimates for each piece of work. After review, I selected which items to have addressed immediately and scheduled the work. While performing the work, the electricians recommended some additional small items, such as upgrading and moving a light fixture in the garage for more illumination. We discussed the items and in many cases I approved going ahead with the work. The electricians have been very helpful and professional throughout. The work involved was very close to the original estimate. They have done an excellent job and I'm very happy with the work. The new lights installed in the kitchen and garage are great and really increase the visibility. I also rest more comfortably knowing that the critical electrical issues have been resolved. I highly recommend Mike's Electric to anyone.

Mike's Electric made an unsafe service entrance safe in our 1910 building and up to date according to today's Oregon and National Electric Codes Our electrician, Tom Branch: I almost cried to see him go; he really is a craftsman, surprising because you wouldn't think electrical work would look anything but competent. Tom did some very tricky work for me, and it came out beautiful, and very reasonable. Also, we paid almost $400 for estimates on four condos, and it was money well spent, far better than estimates made out of boilerplate, and they did spend the entire day doing it with unexpected energy and detail. It's great having an experience with a vendor that doesn't leave you with some aggravation. Not only would I recommend them, I almost wish for work to bring them back. (Well, maybe I exaggerate :') but not about their professionalism.)
