An electrician from Mike’s electric came to my home to replace a flooring thermostat. The electrician was here less than 15 minutes after saying he would not replace the thermostat because he felt the wiring required conduit. Note: This flooring thermostat was installed as part of a permitted kitchen remodel from a high-end contractor which cost more than $150,000. The following day another electrician came out and replaced the thermostat without problem or issue and charged less than the $204 fee that Mike’s electric charged to do nothing. I called and spoke to the billing person today and explained the situation. She said that $204 was the service charge, regardless of outcome. I said I would be willing to pay $50 as a service fee for this 15 minute no-service whatsoever call. If this is the customer service one would expect from Mike’s electric I would caution anyone, regardless of how dire their circumstance or how severe they are electrical needs, to never, ever, ever use this company.

During the requested work, our electrician found multiple areas of “not-to-code” wiring involved. He took multiple pictures of the problem area, which we still have, and forwarded them via text to our company’[Member Information Removed] supervising electrician. The supervising electrician concurred with the on-site electrician’[Member Information Removed] assessment, confirming that the improper wiring would have to be properly protected in order to comply with Oregon electrical code. This was communicated to the homeowner and she declined the required repairs. There are very stringent code requirements surrounding electrical work. Our position isn’t an arbitrary one. To not observe such codes, as she requested us to do, puts our business and her home at risk. It’[Member Information Removed] good to know that she found someone to complete the repairs within her budget, hopefully with the proper corrections and Oregon electrical permit, also required by code.

One star because it cannot go lower. They use predatory pricing to gouge after bidding low. The initial bid for setting up a dedicated circuit for my microwave was $5-600 with 4 hours of work. The job completed in 2.5 hours. Nearly half the time they estimated. Yet the bill came in over $800. When i asked for an explanation, they claimed that electricians are billing at $150/hour. Be aware that the average for an electrician's hourly is $45/hour and that SURGEONS make $180/hour. When i called them to escalate the issue they continually feigned that i was being loud (i was not) and hung up on me. I then stated i would see them in small claims and they said OK. you WILL be over billed.

We provided this customer a quote, which he accepted, prior to beginning work. During the work, our electrician found blocking inside an interior wall, which made wiring installation much more difficult than expected. Customer was advised by our electrician that additional labor would be needed to complete the installation of a new circuit. He authorized completing the work knowing this. After he received his invoice he called twice, being verbally abusive both times and immediately threatening legal action because of the difference ($150) between what he was originally quoted and then invoiced. He did not disclose in either of those conversations that he was aware of the additional labor as advised by our electrician. To clarify, we had 5 manhours into this project, not the 2.5 hours claimed by customer (which was about an hour longer than we had expected, due to the blocking inside of the wall). Nonetheless, we made a courtesy discount and he promptly paid the balance of his invoice - which we appreciate.

Both fans rattled after install. Mike's Electric not only did poor work but also employed abusive billing practices. They double billed for journeyman and apprentice without informing me. They also failed to provide an estimate despite my request. They also charged an additional $350 to come back out to address the noise issue, despite assurances that there would be no charge. This company is dishonest and disreputable

Completely fabricated. Owner attempted to fix fans herself and damaged them. We told her we would come back and repair at no charge if the problem was related to our work. It wasn't. On top of that, she requested we falsify our invoice so that she could recover the cost of the fans from the manufacturer. Much of this has been documented in an email thread with her. We'll post many more details on Monday.

The company turned up to my home , while I was away. We had discussed in detail doing the basement bathroom and laundry room. When they arrived they proceeded to do electrical work on the wrong floor. When I questioned them on why they did not do the work discussed , they said that the electrician must of been confused and did the wrong job. They said the work he did was justified because it must have been bad wiring. I asked them to see if from my point of view , I should not have to pay for work that I did not authorize. Needless to say they will not correct their mistake until I pay the invoice for work I did not need or authorize. They never contacted my while working at my home, I was left to find out all the work I needed done was never even attempted.

Thank you for taking the time to review our company. A few things I would like to note on this job. This project was a very good example of how miscommunication can affect the success of a job. We were given a lock box code for access since the owner and/or realtor could not meet with us. When we completed the requested work, we called the realtor before leaving the home (as the owner had requested). She confirmed we had completed the requested items. Owner subsequently called back and told us that only ½ of the requested work was done and that the other ½ was not completed. We were very willing to get out right away to make sure this project got completed and did not hold up the sale of the home. However, since our first trip 25 days prior was not paid, we needed to have payment prior to returning. An email could have helped to clarify the project between all parties involved. Have a great day. Regards, Amanda Barrera

I've had MIke's Electric out several times for different things. I find that they are always very honest and professional. I called them this time to check out why an outlet in the garage wasn't working and to replace a bathroom fan I thought was too loud. They were quick to assess and fix the situation with the outlet in the garage, and they tested the fan in the bath and said it was well within levels that would pass inspection since we were thinking of selling our house. I was all prepared to purchase a new fan and have it installed, but they said to 'keep my money'. I appreciate their honesty. I will definitely call them next time.

They responded to my inquiry within several hours and had an estimator on our property in a few days. They identified an issue: getting a trench for the conduit underneath an existing cement pathway to the front porch. He also helped to confirm the best position for the post. They did not however, give any recommendations for a company to did the trench which was to be 20" deep and about 10" wide. The lack of a recommendation was frustrating. I consulted Angie's list for a company that might do this. The first company was prompt and professional and said that doing this work by hand would be expensive and we might investigate "directional drilling". He gave us the name of a company, Oregon Native Drilling. He responded quickly completing the drilling withing the week. It is good to note that the directional digging included the conduit of the size specified by Mike's and while it was done 3 weeks before Mike's was scheduled to do the final work it was not a safety issue with an open trench. This was a relief with heavy rain in the forecast. We have given the contact information to Mike's Electric for the directional digging contractor. Overall, Mike's technician and his apprentice did a great job, were thorough in explaining how this dust to dawn feature would work and getting the city inspector on the schedule for two days later. The job is now complete and we are thrilled with the result.

Very professional and responsive. Being on a tight deadline to complete a list of electrical issues found by the inspection, Mikes employees (one journeyman and one apprentice) nailed them out in a couple hours. I received an immediate response when I asked for an estimate. Exchanged multiple emails and phone messages regarding details on what I wanted. Once Mike's Electric was satisfied they had what they needed they provided a detailed and reasonable estimate. I accepted and a week later two very professional employees showed up to do the work. They finished in 2 to 3 hrs with no surprises. I'm a completely satisfied customer and would highly recommend Mike's Electric for others seeking home electrical services. Amanda(?) called me prior to their office opening and they were able to get us in the same day. The electrician called and was running ahead of schedule (YAY!). He was thorough and cleaned up his mess and asked if we had any other issues or questions. I can replace a socket but we were worried about why the electrical fire had started. He found there were several problems with the way the previous electrician and installed the outlet, to include the ground on the panel wasn't connected!! He also had a bit of time and helped me figure out why some landscape lights weren't working. Very happy to have had these folks out and would happily call them again.

The service was fine, it was just a bummer to have to pay for an Apprentice as well as the contractor (did not know that would happen) and the work they did took all of 15min - but we had to pay for an hour (we were warned about that). Consultant refused to provide a bid because I couldn't tell him exactly WHY I wanted my electrical upgrade done and I was treated like a stupid female. I complained to the owner later via phone. He asked for specifications on the new meter from PGE which made it clear to me that they didn't have the expertise for this type of work anyway, so all in all a good thing that I didn't end up hiring them.

There is specific information we ask for to be sure that we are providing the correct options for our customers. In this case, customer was argumentative, evasive and appeared ill-informed. Consequently we made a business decision not to invest more time in her project. This situation occurred 5 months ago and in checking with the city in which she lives, found that she hasn't initiated the work, so we are comfortable that exercising our choice to not proceed was the appropriate one.
