This company has done tree removal for us before, so when I needed a tree removed that was growing right next to the house, they were my first choice again. The only glitch was a delay to the work because of some equipment problems, but once they came, they worked quickly, did everything I asked (including leaving wood chips behind) and cleaned up carefully. The workers were friendly and careful (working right next to the house). Once again I was very pleased.

Matt was outstanding in every aspect of the job. His expertise and professionalism are first-rate, his estimate was comprehensive and reasonable, and he performed the work himself (with a colleague). Moreover, Matt has a really nice manner. He was a pleasure to interact with, and was both responsive and prompt in all communications. He listened carefully to our objectives and was mindful of our budget. He clearly explained options and procedures so that we could make the best decisions about the job. We were thoroughly delighted with the results and will now use Matt's Tree Care exclusively.

I had just purchased a home that had many very large and very old trees(100 years) on the property. The previous owner had done nothing to care for them for many years. I called to have Matt and 2 other tree services come out and asked them for estimates and suggestions on what should be done. 3 of the trees were right next to the main house and had grown so top heavy they were hanging way over the roof. 3 others were next to our shop building and were also covering the front, side and roof. 1 tree was so out of control that it had literally grown through the tree next to it. Matt was very prompt and arrived on time. He took the time to walk the entire area and looked at all the trees, not a simple task as this is 2.5 acres. He identified all the trees and gave me a very through explaination as to what he thought really needed to be done now and what should be done later in the fall based on the types of trees involved. He was not rushed and really showed what I felt to be a geniune care for the trees. He even noticed that one tree had a large cable in it, supposedly to help support a point where the tree formed a Y. He explained why the cable was not only not necessary in this case but was damaging the tree. He was also very upfront in telling me about when he thought he could start, Matt's was the middle bid for the work I was requesting but I was very impressed with personaliy and knowledge. I also wanted a Master Arborist to do the work and not just some "tree service" So I chose him for the work. He and his crew arrived right on time and set to work, this turned out to be a two day job there was so much to do. When I arrived I found him high in on of the trees, he explained that they had been very badly topped maybe 20 years ago and that was why they were in such bad shape now. He told me what the limitaions of pruning them would be to keep them from turning back into the large bushes they currently were. When I told him I wanted the trees to be higher off the ground so I did not run into them with my equipment, he and his team came down and re-trimmed the lower branches without question. When they left all that was there was the fire wood, there was hardly any sawdust and they had done a amazing job of cleaning up. I was completly satisfied with their work.

I was very pleased with the experience. They had a competitive bid, were very knowledgeable and professional. The crew didn't pick up quite as much as I would have liked but they did do a great job. I plan to use them again later this year on another tree.

Matt is a nice guy and is very professional. I also appreciated them being flexible when trying to fit me into their schedule. It was a very positive experience. I do plan to use them in the future if the need arises.

We did a little bartering, so that was fine. I had a few bids and his was the best. He gives you a documentation on what his background is. It was more than what I wanted to pay, but I was satisfied.

He had glowing reviews and that's why I used him. He was excellent. He's a Certified Arborist. He pruned my apple tree to make it produce more. He hauled off everything. He's a good guy. He's professional, clean, nice and knowledgeable. He was on time and got it done. He's going to school to get a degree in Horticulture. I'm going to use his services again in the future.

It went great, start to finish. Found them on Angie's List, made contact, and owner came out as scheduled. He walked around with me, addressed my concerns, and then gave me a written estimate. He was knowledgeable and a very nice person. I contacted him later, scheduled a date, and he came and did the work as planned.

Matthew with Matthews Tree Care was great from the first time I met him. He was very professional and worked with me on my budget for the tree work I needed done on my property. He also helped me with the permits I needed to get from the city. I would definitely use them again for tree work.

I used the service from Angie's List. I would tell people not to use them. They were professional when they came out and looked again when I complained. They tried to do their best to fix it, but once you ruin a tree, you can't fix it.

They were excellent. I was very happy. They gave a lot of information without asking or charging. They just walked around and I asked questions about different trees, and they just gave the advice. I also had a tree taken down and they took care of that. The tree had partially fallen down and they took care of moving the tree, grinding the stump and fencing the tree. So they did all that. I really didn’t shop the price that much but it was fair and reasonable. I cannot say if it was wonderful or whatever. They were very good about getting back to me. They had a slight delay but I told them not to worry about it. They would either call or leave messages, or send me an email and keep me up to date as to what’s going on. So I thought that was very good.

Matthew came out to give an estimate which was very informative. He made suggestions as to the best means of accomplishing our goals while keeping in mind the health of the trees. He come out the day of the work to go over what was to be done. We were very pleased with the outcome. The work was carefully done and cleaned up. Before they left, we talked a bit about the care and pruning of other varieties of trees. They were very knowledgeable. So in the future when i have need of tree care, I will definitely give them a call.

I was impressed with him. The only reason why I didn’t go with him is because I thought the other tree company that I’ve done business with for a long time was going to be way too expensive. So when Matthews came out, their bid was real competitive. So I went with the other tree service company. Just based on my interaction with Matthews, if I didn’t have a business relationship with the other tree service company, I would have gone with him. I really liked him. I liked his professionalism and I liked his demeanor. He really seemed to know his stuff. He and his wife own the business together. I had some interaction with her and I really liked her as well. I have already recommended them to some of my friends for any tree work. He quoted me something like $750. I thought it was pretty reasonable. That’s why I was surprised when the other tree company was so close. It was completely a positive experience. I have a long standing business relationship with the other tree company. So I will use Matthews again in the future if the other tree company does not do well.

Matthews Tree Care previously did an outstanding tree trimming job for me last year so when I decided to remove a problem tree I contacted Matt. I had already removed and disposed of all the limbs and branches so only the trunk remained. I did not even ask for a bid. Matt's two tree guys showed up EXACTLY on time and had the job done within 15 minutes when Matt arrived. When we discussed the cost he said "How about $60?" I told him that was not enough and said "How about $75"? Wrote him a check for that amount. He is extremely nice, courteous and professional. His wife sent a nice thank you card later that week. Matt and his crew do outstanding professonal work at very reasonable cost and I would highly recommend him for any tree service.

Matt came out and walked the area, taking a good thirty minutes to do that and to consult with me about it. He explained about trees and Portland (as we're new to the area). He assured us that the tree was a 'one off' - that it had been severely damaged and its fall was inevitable, and that all the trees looked very healthy. He explained about servicing trees, and told us that it looked like these had been done recently (in the last 3 years). I felt he took a lot of time and effort to educate me, and answer all my questions. He had an opportunity to sell a lot of service, but instead was honest about our situation. When it is time to take care of our trees, he'll be the one we call.

Great! Matt did a complementary assessment of our 30ft. coastal redwood tree that was transplanted almost 2 years ago. The big tree company that planted our tree would not come out to look at it for the past year, and they have attributed the tree problems to "normal" transplantation stress. Matt came to our home and found that the tree was not getting enough water, and made some suggestions to improve the tree's health. He also looked at the other large trees on our property and checked for any problems. We are very thankful for his assistance.

I enjoyed working with Matt. He was responsive to my need. The work was professionally completed as expected.

Matt and his 2 employees did a whole day's work on my property: They had to trim and deadwood a coastal pine, several cherries, several maples, 2 cedars, 2 redwoods, and a ca. 120-ft. oak tree. They also removed 4 smaller trees and some holly. They worked efficiently and professionally, consulting with each other and making sure their work was aesthetic while not compromising the health of the trees. The yard is palpably brighter now, and is the way I wanted it, making room for landscapers to create pathways to use the whole yard to its potential. They chipped up everything and hauled it away. Since it was a big job for one day I only had to remind Matt about a few things that we'd discussed for the estimate, and he jumped right on them. I do have to go around the front and clean up smaller twigs from the lawn and moss from under one maple, but otherwise the clean-up was done v. well. When I reminded them that we'd talked about leaving some chips for the new paths, Matt said he'd make a special trip back with some. The whole day I felt confident that Matt was making good decisions for the trees based on his thorough knowledge of and love for the trees, as well as his aesthetic sensibilities. I can see him/them as my regular tree team, no problem!

Rather than doing a drive by Matthew came out and we discussed what was to be done. He also provided some approximate cost for removal of some other larger fir trees in our yard. I did get one other bid and Matthews Tree Care (MTC) pricing was in the same ball park as the other bid. We communicated mostly through e-mail after the initial visit to establish time frames. Within 1-2 weeks Matthew came out, removed the tree and had the stump grinding done. We really appreciated Matthew's quick service and responsiveness to our e-mails/questions. Since we were doing a sidewalk removal we got the permit through Beaverton, rather than MTC. I believe some other tree service providers add in additional cost if they pull a permit but MTC would not have done that. We ended up not going with MTC for the re-planting of our trees--cost was a bit higher than we wanted to pay for this project. We decided to go to Loen and Farmington Gardens for our trees and doing the planting ourselves. We learned that many 1.5" trees (minimum for strip replanting in Beaverton) sell for around $100. The 2" caliper trees around $240. So, it cost almost as much to replace the trees as it does to take them down if you go with the more mature trees. Overall this was a great experience and MTC will be a company we call the next time we need to have any tress trimmed or removed.

I’ve been very pleased with Angie’s List because of the people that I’ve contacted. I’ve dealt with him in the past. He has changed the name of the business. He’s a professional arborist. He cares about the tress, he cares about my property and he cares about the look. He does a magnificent job. I’m a little home owner who wouldn’t probably be too concerned about that, but he helped me take care of trees. He even helped me take out 3 trees that were going to be deceased. He did a great job. I’ve had him before to prune out the sycamore that was extremely difficult to do. He did an artistic job out of it and it looks really great. I would highly recommend him. His quote came in at an even amount compared to two of the larger firms in the area. He gave a discount for cash as well. He’s pleasant, caring, concerned and very knowledgeable. He’s an honorable man. I don’t have a single thing to say against him. I would use him again in the future.

Not knowing anything about pruning trees, I decided I needed a professional. Finding someone to come to the house and begin trimming the trees was easy, but finding someone who knows what they are doing was something else. I had people who said they were arborist only to find out they were commissioned salespeople working for a corporation that had only one certified arborist in the whole company. Matt, however, while a smaller company, is himself a certified arborist, and he is actually on job doing much of the work himself, or directing his men during the pruning process. The end result was fantastic. We now have a reduced canopy that will allow the sun to hit the grass to promote growth, and we have tree shrubs that don't look like they are overtaking the house, but still looked well shaped. After work was done, Matt and his crew cleaned up all the debris and left no evidence that they were there except the extra sunshine that is now flooding our lawn.

They were very thorough. They let me know exactly what they were going to do. They cleaned up after themselves quite a bit. I thought they were friendly and professional. We will definitely have them come back. We had a couple of other bids, and their price was great. They were a little late, but they called to let me know.

Matthew came out and quoted a price and then later called to ask if he could push up the date to start the removal. His workers arrived on time and worked for two days to remove the trees. They laid down plywood on our grass to protect it as the ground was extremely wet and muddy. They also used plywood to protect the fence. They chopped the tree trunks for firewood and stacked it up. They also chipped all the leaves and branches. Finally, they cleaned up all the yard debris in our yard as well as our neighbors' yard.

On the scheduled date, two of Matt's employees arrived on time, in pretty bad weather, and proceeded to dig out the two trees and transport them to the back yard. They did a pretty good job in not damaging the surrounding area and grass, even though the yard was pretty soupy. In the back yard I directed where I wanted the trees planted and they dug the requisite holes and oriented the trees to my liking. In one case they were unable to excavate a hole where I wanted it due to the presence of a very large boulder, so we had to select an alternate spot nearby. The only issue I had in this replanting process was that they had determined that the trees did not need to be staked in order to keep them upright. This turned out to not be a good decision as, by the end of the day, we had significant wind that proceeded to tip them over. I contacted Matt that evening and the crew was out the next day, in even more inclement weather, to right the trees and stake them securely. Four weeks later they are still upright and seem to be doing well. Only time and making it through this summer will tell.

Matthew Allen, the owner of the company, arrived on schedule to give us an estimate. He was very pleasant and professional, and we felt that he gave us a fair price for the work to be done. His crew arrived at the scheduled time, and they were very efficient in removing our large maple tree, which needed to be removed since its roots were taking over our backyard and starting to uproot our patio. The guys were very nice and worked well together and most impressively cleaned up everything perfectly. They also removed several branches of a fir tree that was close to our house. A few days later, the subcontractor who handles the stump grinding arrived and did a great job in doing that, also cleaning up after his work very neatly. We were very impressed by Matthews Tree Care and would recommend them highly!
