I have been using Long's Handyman service for almost 15 years now, and am totally pleased with them. Chris Long is absolutely outstanding in every way. I would highly recommend him to anyone who's looking for a handyman service that always completes the job in the best way!!!!!
Description of Work: Over the years gutter cleaning and repair, moss removal, shower drain cleanout, drywall repairs, installed new outdoor water shut-off valve and faucet repairs are a few of the many jobs he's done for me.

+ 0 moreThese guys are great. They came along and gave me a real quote, arrived then they said they would, and completed the work. We had a 1980s kitchen, soffits, etc. ripped out, practically to the studs (about 50%). They-re-drywalled, textured, moved some electrical outlets, moved some plumbing, installed recessed lighting. Took about 2 weeks. I've had a couple more smaller issues (unrelated to the original work they did for me) that they've come out very promptly and fixed. Very professional group, these guys, they know their stuff and get on with it.

+ -1 moreI paid him approximately $400.00 which is what the original invoice stated. He sent me a new invoice requesting for a higher amount. He threatened to pull all of the boards if he does not get the payment. He came and estimated 11 boards and the assistance really brought 10 boards and he pulled out all of the rotten boards and stated that I actually need 13 boards but he did not even replace the board that had a hole in it. I still paid him for the 13 boards then he called and stated that I did not pay enough and I owe $220.00 more. He has called at least 6 times threatening to put a lien on my house and pull the boards and burn them. He is accusing me that I am trying to rip him off.

He is conveniently located right down the street from our home so I contacted him about several jobs we needed done around the house - replace a side-entry garage door, cap off an old malfunctioning smoke detector, and repair damage to our chimney caused by a woodpecker. Chris was punctual, friendly, professional and completed the work faster than I thought he would, all of a very high quality nature. He's also affordable and doesn't mark up materials he buys, such as the garage door which he got from Home Depot. If you need a handyman, give Chris a call.
Description of Work: Replaced an exterior side-entry garage door, repaired and replaced siding on chimney damaged by woodpecker, removed and capped off old malfunctioning smoke detector

+ -1 moreremoved old range, modified cabinet(drop in range) to fit a slide in range. capped a gas pipe, hard wired the range, installed the range , made sure it worked and added trim around sides of range. Chris always leave a materials receipt. Always discusses options for project, always returns in a timely manner if there is an issue. Always professional and friendly. I have used Chris to install safety grab bars& light dimmer switch, motion sensor lighting, remove old counters, range, disconnect all plumbing necessary for new counters and then reinstalled a new faucet, disposal rewired the dishwasher ,disposal and range after counters installed. He has capped off sprinkler heads, installed molding under new counters, installed new insulated crawl space hatch , created secure handles for safe roof access and egress . Replaced facia at roof when no one else would because they did not have the creativity, out of the box thinking to see how it could be done w/o ripping uf my roof. Hand or spray painted new trim and siding. I have used Chris for a multitude of jobs not yet mentioned in the past two years since I moved here.

Description of Work: Long's Handyman Service provided power washing (7/2) & fence painting (7/9) services to my neighbor. As a result of the power washing, my newly laid barkdust was in shambles; my recently stained fence was a mess (mud splatters everywhere); my raspberry crop was ruined (raspberries coated in barkdust), and there was barkdust & mud splattered everywhere. This business is listed on Angie's List, so I was surprised at the mess left in my yard. I went out there Sat. morning trying to cleanup, and it was not something that I could restore to its prior condition. I sent Long's an e-mail because I knew they were coming back to paint, and I could not imagine what mess I might find after that service. This morning I saw Long's back at my neighbor's house, and I confronted the owner. He said that he had not seen my e-mail because he had been too busy. I explained my complaint and mentioned my concern about the painting. He said not to worry because the fence would be painted by brush. When I returned later in the day, I had a v-mail from my neighbor apologizing for the paint overspray all over my blueberries. She said that Long's had failed to tarp my blueberries. I marched out to my yard and once again confronted the owner. He said my neighbor should have told me he was painting today, so that I could cover my own blueberries if I wanted to. Then he said he had covered my blueberries, so I walked him over to the bushes and asked him to explain to me how I had white paint all over my bushes & berries if he used a tarp. He had very little to say, but he did dismiss my raspberry complaint and said he would eat them. This guy was a complete jerk who couldn't have cared less about my yard or the condition he left it in. He was unapologetic, condescending and rude.

+ -1 moreChris arrived on time, did the job, gave the bill to my daughter (I was at work) and left.I started using Chris when he lived in my neighborhood and was just starting his business. He has since moved to another neighborhood but I still use him. He is fast, professional, knowledgeable, friendly and punctual.
Description of Work: Chris power washed my 2 story house with vinyl siding. Over the past years Chris has put in ceiling fans, unclogged toilets,cleaned gutters. I have a to do list for him now.

+ -1 moreSee above comments ... Chris is able to do everything that is legal for a handyman to do and he does it well. A+++ performer. I only hope, he'll never get too busy for me to schedule work with him, as he is really reliable and good.
Description of Work: I started using Chris Long before seeing his listing in Angie's List. He has a few mediocre reviews but I had used him six or seven times before seeing the first Angie's List review. Whoever wrote those two reviews must be difficult people to work with, as in my opinion Chris Long is a TRIPLE "A" PERFORMER. He's punctual, very honest and extremely creative. He will tell you when things are code violations and/or beyond his scope of authority. He's done design work for us and built out to the agreed upon written specifications and bid. He's done minor electrical work, ceiling construction for an outside deck, fixed internal and outdoor door problems and many more things. Chris has one of the best, friendliest personalities I've experienced and I totally trust him and his opinions. The $3,500 approximate figure above is for several jobs he did for us and his pricing is extremely competitive ... I hope Chris never leaves the area, as I will continue to hire him, when he's available. I never met or knew Chris before my first hire, so don't think I am giving testimorny to a friend or relative ... he's earned every bit of my respect and trust ... + he cleans up after his work and leaves no mess; if he's ever late, he calls you to keep you in the loop. Everything is billed for on fixed rate per hour plus materials --- free estimates for bigger projects with time estimates and materials costs, and he buys all needed materials and provides receipts.

+ -1 moreBegan well, or so I thought in '06. Ended very badly in '07!!! Do not use Chris. He is neither professional nor ethical, based on my experience. I was the A glowing comment in '06. I needed quick turn around on dry rot repair. He was quick. That's all. Recently discovered that he did not do dry rot repairs as specified and paid for, did minor repair only and covered over with new flooring. When presented with evidence, denied everything, even though photos were taken and other contractor was called in to verify dry rot still under new flooring. Got in shouting match. Very unprofessional. Do not use!! He came recommended and I did not supervise. I won't make that mistake again! Very costly.

+ -1 moreChris left a flier on my door and was responsive when I called him. He and his assistant were punctual and careful cleaning out the gutters. He represented that he was licensed and insured but later when I checked out the State of Oregon Contractors board it turns out he is not licensed. I was planning on having him do other work but I am bothered that he lied about the licensing.

+ -1 more(POOR JOB-continued)which caused crack to become a 3 ft-long crack (his own admission). I phoned situation to owner Chris, he came to quote another job & inspect mirror. I did not demand mirror to be replaced, etc. but we came up w/solution. I expected to pay something toward materials even though worker cracked the mirror. The real problem arose when Chris charged both labor @$250 alone- + materials to repair the worker's damage. Customers should not have to pay for labor to fix insured contractor's damage. Chris dismissed the cause of the crack saying 'mirrors are fragile, anything can happen when installing light fixtures in baths'. The mirror is original to the 27 yr old home & I am RD owner; so logic says if a small crack had been there all along, any bump over the yrs by anyone would have caused the large crack. Nothing wrone with mirror until worker installed light & hit faucet against mirror (own admission).
Description of Work: Handyman: swap out old light fixtures and faucets for same-size new ones; install curtain rods; install mailbox post; re-seat 2 toilets after other contractor installed flooring; clean-out gutters to prepare for caulking. Owner (Chris) publicizes he's licensed, bonded & insured but did not stand behind his worker's damage. ONE PLUS Chris was responsive on my ST small repair; I do think he is a talented contractor. POOR: But on 2 follow-up, larger jobs he sent worker. Worker was 1 hr late (Apt #1= said was late due to unable to print directions;so why not call me?) On ND apt. was 2 hrs late (owner advised 1 hr delay) BUT as soon as worker arrived he said it was best he went to lunch - left @ 10:50 am-returned @ 12:55 pm. Next,worker installed bathroom light fixture & claimed a small crack existed under old fixture but never showed it to me until new fixture was hung over it. Although skeptical I was prepared to live with small 4'' crack until worker hit faucet against mirror
