Daniel was great on the phone. However, he was one half hour late for our appointment to assess our property. In addition, he did not give us a quote for the price for more than 48 hours after his visit (he still has not done so) and he was a little hesitant to "get his feet wet" in terms of measuring some hilly, irregular surface, portions of our land.

Made appointment for a quote on a Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Got a call that day that he would not be able to keep the appointment but could come by earlier. I agreed. He showed up measured. I indicated I was interested in the "picture frame" style of fence. He asked if I wanted a verbal quote or a written quote. I said both. About 20' of my fence was going to be 3 ft tall. He said he had an idea for that section and would send me a picture of it when he supplied the written version of the quote. Since my property was adjacent to a busy street he also said he would provide a discount if he could put a sign with his company business on the fence. All said and done he provided a quote of $3200. I asked about the Angie's list discount he advertised and he responded: "that price probably includes 2 discounts." His quote beat my lowest quote so I did not care--I felt like it was a good price. He said he may have time to write up the quote on Saturday. Saturday passed--no contact. No big deal. I waited until Monday and texted him. He responded that he was not in the office but as soon as he got back in the office he would provide a written quote. In my view I wanted to get things written down and agreed to before the details of our conversation were forgotten. So I waited until Tuesday and I texted him again. He promised someone in the office would supply a quote by end of day. I did eventually get a quote. It was about $1000 higher than what we discussed in person. It also was a quote for a different style of fence with a "picture frame" fence as an upcharge. There was also no picture of the 3 ft tall section we discussed. I texted him again saying there was a significant variance between the written quote and the verbal quote. He texted back and said "when I get to the office I will see what I can do". Next day I heard nothing so I called. He said he had not had a chance to review the quote at this point I was kind of exasperated. He said also, maybe he missed something since he was doing calculations in his head. Well I decided not to use them...maybe they decided not to work for me. I don't know. If I was running this business I would take good notes. Take time to make proper calculations. If you give a quote put it down on paper so you don't forget. And if there was an issue I would be attentive and resolve the problem. How long does it take to review a quote? Okay so maybe you made a mistake in your verbal quote. Say look I am sorry but I can't do it for that price...don't string me a long.... At worst Daniel cannot be trusted at his word. At best this experience was very unproffessional.
Description of Work: Provided a fence quote for approximately 100 linear foot of fencing plus 2 gates.

I am glad this member chose a different contractor. First of all, Monday, October 14th was Columbus Day and not even the mail service was open then. It could be reasonably expected that I was not in the office then. Secondly, the quote and the "rough ballpark number" did not differ. While the components of the separate parts of the quote were at regular cost there was a discount if all the options were taken, exactly as I communicated to him. $3200 for the #1 cedar Picture Frame options and $3400 for the Clear Cedar options. During our discussion on Friday, this member mentioned that money was an issue and that because of that he was thinking to do the project in stages. I replied that is was fine with us, but that if he did the project all at once the costs, overall, would be less. I also offered to finance the portion of the project he could not afford with a 6 months, no interest, credit. Then why was this homeowner unhappy with the quote, given that the price offered was the lowest that he got? What this homeowner wanted to get was a get an "itemized quote" for a larger project and then do only some of the components, while taking advantage of the lower cost. Seeing that is was impossible to do since each component was priced at regular cost and the larger discount was applied only to the total, he was angry. It still would have been possible to do the individual components but the discounts would have been smaller (understandably).During our last telephone conversation, he tried leveraging Angie's List and threatened that if we don't change our quote in the way he wanted, he would post a negative review. Seeing that I could not be intimidated, he hung up angrily. He does not mention this telephone conversation. He also seems to have forgotten my last email to him were I explicitly explained what the costs were after reviewing the quote. In all my communications with this member via text, email and telephone conversations I was very professional. I do not understand this member. If you don't like our quote - go with a different contractor. I am not in the business to scam anyone and our written quotes are clear. In all of my communications, we have been professional and honest. We delivered what we promised and I always keep my word. Our goal is always to meet and exceed our customers expectation with great service and products.

Daniel's team did a wonderful job on a custom fence for our property. The workers were kind and always confirmed our desires before moving forward with any part of the project. The final product is beautiful, we couldn't have asked for a nicer looking fence.

As they requested - I sent them via email a copy of the deck plan that one of the other contractors had drawn up after meeting with us to review the job. This business was not interested in looking at the job or assisting in any way. I NEVER heard back from them with any information afer I bothered to send tham a copy of the deck drawing. Lack of professionalism and completely UNRESPONSIVE in our circumstance.
Description of Work: The were NOT responsive at all. They told me to fax to them a detailed drawing of our plan and that they would get back to us with an estimate.

I am skeptical that this homeowner has ever contacted us. First of all we do not have a fax number and so we could not ask for a fax to be sent since we do not utilize fax. Second, this homeowner is not within our service range as his property address (per Angie's List) is located 50-70 miles from our office. We Clearly State that we do not work in his area. Third, we have no record of any plans being sent from this homeowner (or any email). Fourth, we tried contacting this homeowner after his negative review with a professional phone call and we were rudely talked over and hung up on. I would conclude that this homeowner most likely never contacted us and that he has had difficultly locating contractors to come out to look at his project, given his location. All his Angie's List reviews are negative so far.

This was an interesting, if not satisfying, experience. The initial meeting to discuss the project was great, and I agreed to the price. Daniel seemed very knowledgeable and personable. We discussed doing some additional fence work, dependent upon my neighbors agreeing to share the cost. The two men who did the actual work were in a big hurry. I even asked if they had another job to get to although they said no. It wasn't until several days later that I discovered they had dumped a huge amount of clay and gravel, from the holes they had dug, under one of my most special bushes and destroyed 3 plants in the process. It took me over an hour and several heavy wheel barrow loads to move it to a more appropriate spot on my property. I was available at all times if they had wanted to talk with me but they never said a word about this. I called Daniel and he basically blew me off, making excuses and not taking any responsibility. I had the gate stained but due to weather and the wood being extremely green, the gate warped terribly; in fact Daniel, who eventually came to look after I called twice, said it was the worst he had ever seen. My gate had looked beautiful but now looked terrible, not lining up and sagging. Meanwhile he met with my neighbors and they decided they didn't want to join me in the other fence project. It seemed very apparent to my neighbors and myself that as soon as he heard that, he wasn't interested in anything further, including fixing my fence. He said he'd get back to me. I had to call several times to see when someone would fix it, and he said I'd have to be put on the list with the new customers and take my turn which would take about 2 months. I called after 3 months and they came while I was out of town and replaced some boards. I stained it like before but unfortunately, they used some very dark wood on just one side so it does not blend, also it still doesn't line up, and my gate doesn't look near as nice as it originally did. I am sick about it and, of course, see it everyday. I really doubt that Daniel would want this fence in his front yard and if he ever stopped by to see it, would consider it inferior workmanship. Although his paperwork/website indicates he values quality and service above all else, using the highest quality lumber, etc. and supposedly guarantees his work, from my response so far I really doubt I would get anything better. I may try again anyway! -------------------- After I published this review, he was upset at how bad this review was. He called me and had someone come out right away to fix the gate. All issues were resolved.

Daneil came over gave me an estimate to replace portions of the deck that had dry rot, reinforce with additional support. The crew arrived and did the job in about one day. Daniel called me after the work was done to tell me they laid new deck boards but could not guarantee the job because the joyces were dry rotted and needed to be replaced. He offered a discount on an new deck. But never followed up. I would thought anyone would have stopped the work and notified the customer that the foundation was dry rotted rather than completing the work and informing me after the fact. I have since got several estimates for a new deck. I have been told that the work done last year was a waste of money.

This homeowners account is not honest. We were asked to repair the deck, and during my appointment with the homeowner, I recommended that the deck be replaced since it was shaky. The homeowner opted to go with a repair since she was not prepared to replace the deck. During the repair/reinforcement, the crew also reiterated the fact that the second story deck needed to be replaced immediately. We did let the homeowner know, again, this time in greater detail about the urgency of the problem. The homeowner declined to replace the deck because if the cost. Our repair/ reinforcement of the deck extended the life of the deck so that it did not collapse by now, by replacing the foundation/ beams of the deck. Since the repair/ reinforcement was temporary in nature and we explicitly told the customer that the work is not guaranteed for a lifetime (our usual guarantee ) but for just the minimum required by Oregon law, one (1) year; I also offered to credit back the full repair/ reinforcement amount back ( the $1500) when she was ready to replace the deck. We tried contacting the homeowner several times after we did the repair, including now, right after this review - with no success. Please give us a call back - we would be more than happy to credit the $1500 toward your new deck and create something that would add beauty and value to your property that we would guarantee for a lifetime.

We are extremely happy with our fence design and quality. Daniel returned the estimate promptly and the price was in line with the other two bids we received. The only negative part of our experience was the scheduling. We got a different answer from the office manager and Daniel and dates were miscommunicated to us on a couple occasions. That said, they arrived to do the work and we talked through some last minute changes which Daniel and his team executed perfectly, even adding a couple other arbors to make the fence look great! It took three days to complete and we - and our neighbors - are very pleased with the result. In spite of the scheduling difficulties, we would work with them again and recommend them to others.

We needed to have small amount of fence and 2 gates put in to enclose the yard for our dog. Calling a month in advance, I thought this would be plenty of time to schedule a date. We had a deadline to meet due to moving into a new home. Looked at Angie's List and most fencing companies were booked out 6-8 weeks and some weren't taking new projects until September. Called Daniels Custom Fences, Decks and Construction and they were the only company that could fit us in before moving into our new home. Beings the project was small they gave me an estimate from pictures and measurements that I sent them. They came on the date the was scheduled, later in the day. Due to some unexpected issues (tree roots), they had to complete the project the next day. Daniels Custom Fences was very professional and do exceptional work. We are very happy with their work and would definitely recommend and use them in the future. Thanks Daniels Custom Fence!

A young Daniel ( a family member, not the owner) arrived to provide an estimate. He was very professional and attentive. Within the following week, I received estimates from the two other contractors I had called but nothing from Daniel's Custom Fencing. I was aware that a neighbor had previously chosen not to do business with them because of the same issue. I called the company and soon received the bid for the work by email. The estimated price was the lowest of the three bids, but not by much. I called Daniel to discuss some specifics and asked for ideas related to the aesthetics of the decorative visual screen. He was quite helpful and promised to email photos so I could better understand what he was speaking about. The promised email did not arrive until prompted by another call. Normally, this lack of follow-up and detail would cause me to choose another contractor, but I was betting on the excellent reviews the company had received on Angie's List and once the second calls were made, I always received a prompt response. Daniel was 30-45 minutes late to meet with me on the first day of the job and did not call to advise me, although I had told him I had to take time off from work. He quietly accepted my compliant on the matter and we then got on with finalizing the work. I explained what I wanted to achieve from the decorative visual screen and he offered ideas which I was ultimately, quite pleased with when finished. The job was done in the three days he promised, the workmanship was excellent and they cleaned up after themselves. Daniel did not require payment when the job was done and said I would receive an invoice in the mail, but I have not yet receive it.

This is a mixed review. We purchased a Big Deal for this company in the hopes that it would result in an affordable bid from Daniels Custom Fences. It did although other bids were quite a bit less than theirs. The end result of their work is a beautiful fence that meets our requirements. The process was the disappointing piece. The gate and the first three sections of the fence are viewable from the street on our neighbors' side. We had requested that the boards on the gate and the 3 sections face our neighbors. Daniel had agreed to this. However the person who installed the fence did not do it that way. We immediately contacted Daniel who acknowledged the mistake and agreed to fix it. However he did comment that they were busy so it might take a few days. While this didn't exactly sit well with us, we do understand that businesses can be booked out a bit. It ended up taking over a month and more phone calls before the work was done. They ended up installing boards on the neighbors' side and leaving the incorrectly installed boards in place. This resulted in a beautiful fence for both our neighbors and ourselves. However we won't hire this company again because we had to repeatedly pursue getting the work completely properly. In addition interactions with Daniel always seemed to leave us with the sense that we were bothering him. That was uncomfortable and unnecessary.

We are very happy with the fence that this company built for us. It looks great, feels sturdy, and they made many small modifications along the way to be sure that we were happy with how it turned out. There were some communication problems along the way- I think partly because we are very picky and partly because the workers in some cases forged ahead with decisions without consulting us first- but Daniel was very good about being sure that the fence met or exceeded our expectations. In several cases, when we didn't like how a design turned out, they took the whole thing apart and re-built it with a different design that we liked better. They are very busy right now, so my only real ding against this company is that it took much longer to complete the project than we expected (which partly is understandable because we added several components- the arbors- that we had not initially planned to build, so they had not initially scheduled that time). Their workers are hard working and professional, and it was easy to have them onsite. In several instances they worked on the weekend and stayed late to try to finish the project. They were also very good about clean up. Overall, I would definitely recommend this company, especially because they definitely have the best guarantee in the business and were happy to throw in little extras like building an extra gate that had not initially been in the bid and also hauling away a lot of old lumber that we had on site. And our fence looks great- we are already getting tons of compliments on it.

Daniel's Fencing was very professional and worked with us along the entire project. They made sure we were happy and if we had any questions along the way. There were a few things that needed addressing during the project and they were very quick in taking care of them.
Description of Work: We had an old wooden fence in the front of your yard that needed to be taken down and it was replaced with 27 linear feet of steel fencing. We also needed fencing put in our backyard to keep our 1 year old son from falling off our retaining wall into the water behind our house. I requested a quote and asked to meet around 4:30 in the afternoon. They called and 4pm to change the time because of traffic. They came back the next day and let us know that the neighbor already got a quote from them. I asked for the quote and it took four days to receive the quote that was already completed. At this point, the quote was already 10 days old. When my neighbor and I decided to use Daniels Custom fence the quote was then 34 days old. When we called to let them know we wanted to move forward with the project, they told us the price has been raised by over $400 (over 22% increase in 34 days). They said if we wanted the same price we would have to wait till the winter (like construction costs go down in the winter). They claimed to have an Angie's List discount, but in reality every quote we received was clost to the same price as the discounted rate. It became obvious that Daniels did not want the project we had so they raised their price. I would NOT recommnend the "used car" type company that is Daniels Custom Fence.

I regret that this homeowner did not have a great experience with our company. First I want to point out that we will not refuse projects for any reason. We would be happy to bid on and take on any work within our scope. Also we did NOT raise our prices and furthermore did not communicate anything with regards to that with this homeowner. Rather the conversation was with the neighbor who wanted to move ahead with us, and it seems that this homeowner was confused. Unfortunately, besides meeting the homeowner’s husband once, I have never communicated directly with this homeowner. The reason was we were contacted by the neighbor, with whom we were dealing with and who was communicating with this homeowner. The neighbor had accepted the proposal after the 30 days expiration period, and after reviewing the bid we emailed the neighbor letting them know that we would honor the original for them, even though the price for the project went up about $400 within that time frame. I think the biggest problem was the communication between the two neighbors. After we already bid on and were planning to do the fencing work, we were called to look at their fence. I came out thinking it was about bidding on some fence in the adjacent areas of the fence we were going to build. The appointment was scheduled at 4 pm and I called before the appointment time to let them know I was caught up in traffic (rush hour) and would arrive about 10 mins late NOT the next day. To my surprise, we were asked to bid on the fence we already bid on, and were planning to build! Since I let the homeowner’s husband know about our bid, I supplied him copy of the proposal we had with the neighbor. The husband was ashamed about not knowing that we had already bid on the project and rushed in the house without shaking my hand declaring “this is funny, this is funny”. We have since never heard back from this homeowner about wanting to move ahead other than a nasty email and a negative review.

I called numerous companies for a gate bid. All of the bids excepet Daniels came in at over $20,000- $30,000. Daniles came in at approximlatey $12,000- $15,000 depending on the options.. His was by the far the lowest. I had Daniel come out again just to make sure we were on the same page. I felt good so I wrote him a check. The gate was done in 1 month and it was custom. The most beautfiul gate I could have ever imagnied. He even upgraded the light on top to make sure I was happy. Next, came the electronics. The electronics did not work as good because Daniel did not seem to have control over the intercom and the camera system. He spent months trying to make the electornics work correctly and even took $1,500 off our bill due to the electronics not working correctly. In genereal, I felt he went above and beyond to make us happy. I would use him again.. He is a class act that trys to make his client happy.

Response from Daniels Custom Fences Decks & Construction
I am glad that the Homeowners appreciate the quality of the electric ornamental custom gate and that they are happy with job overall. The biggest issue with the electronics was that it happened that there were multiple phone/cable towers, close by, that ran on the same frequencies as the gate operating system, intercom and camera. We were not aware of the towers before we had started the work. The interference between the communications towers and the system brought significant reduction to the control of the intercom/ camera system. Once we were notified about the issue we promptly responded. However, due to the busy schedule of the homeowners and the need to order some parts for the rewiring, we were repeatedly delayed in rewiring of the system to reduce the interference caused by the communications tower. The repairs took about approx.1 1/2 months to complete over several visits. The rewiring was done at no cost and the gate electronics are now functioning well. I provided an additional discount, on top of the already discounted price, an exception to our policies, to compensate for the inconvenience of having the project extend another 1 1/2 months out. Again, our priority at Daniels Custom Fences, Decks and Construction is to provide Top Quality Products, Top Quality Materials and Top Quality Workmanship at competitive prices. Our goal is to exceed our customers expectations.

It was great. They were fast, pleasant and very professional. Our neighbor came over to see if he could have the old fence sections to use at his farm. Florin, helped our neighbor carry the sections next door to be reused. There were a couple of unforseen obstacles that were handled gracefully and timely. I would recommend Daniel's very highly.
Description of Work: Daniel's Custom Fence installed a new fence along our back property line, built a new gate and installed new posts for our fence along the side.

We hired Daniel's Custom Fencing to build an 8-foot double-swing gate across our driveway in our new house. Overall, I got a good quality driveway gate built for a fair price. It was somewhat difficult to communicate along the way, but it worked out fine in the end. Daniel came out and gave me a verbal estimate, then took my info and said he'd follow up with a written estimate in an email. A few weeks went by (while we were still closing on the house) and I never got the written estimate, so I asked again. The estimate came, but was $200 higher than the verbal...I imagine enough time went by that he forgot what he had quoted me. Not a big problem though, when I pointed this out, Daniel promptly honored the price he had quoted me originally. Initially when we scheduled the project, it looked like they couldn't get us in for another month or two, but when I said that was a problem, they found a slot for us in the following week. I appreciate them accommodating us, we're really glad to have the project done already. During the leadup to the project, Daniel mentioned that there are a number of options and styles we would be able to choose from. I asked for details about our choices, or some kind of brochure or website to look at with these options, but never got them. I asked in three different emails for more info on this, but he never responded to the question, even when he responded to other questions in the same emails. I should have just called at some point I guess. Again, not a huge deal, we got a nice, solid, basic fence that we're happy with, but we may have missed out on some style options that would have looked even better. Still not sure what choices we might have had. On build day, everything went smoothly. The builder showed up on time, and got the job done quickly (I think it was 3-4 hours). He cleaned up after the job, didn't leave a mess. Minor annoyance is having stickers hanging off the bottom of each board in the fence, but that's a few minutes to pull them all off, again very minor complaint. Overall I'd certainly use Daniel's Custom Fencing again, but I'd be a bit more deliberate about communicating with them. Get them on the phone if you're not getting the info you need in their email responses.

The representative arrived a few minutes early, called to ask if that was okay. I appreciated the call. Walk the area and gave us an estimate before he left. I had other estimates and knew his was fair. The representative answered all our questions with ease and didn't pressure us. The work was scheduled a few weeks out. The project started right as scheduled. The men that built the fence were professional, ready to answer questions and efficient. The fence/gates were done in four days as promised.
Description of Work: Removed old fencing and three gates then hauled it away. Dug new holes for the fence posts, set them in concrete, created a five foot good neighbor fence with high grade wood and topped it with a horizontal board. They then built three new gates.
