We had a wonderful experience using Creative Tile and Remodel to update the bathroom in our old Portland home. Tibor has assembled a great team of professionals who work together to get the job done in an efficient and economical fashion. Eddie, the tile setter on our project is a meticulous craftsman who had a lot of great ideas to move the project forward. What we really liked was that Tibor was willing to work within our budget and keep the costs down by providing a bid that was for all labor of the and some of the construction materials. We provided all of the tile, bathroom fixtures and hardware which allowed us to keep within our relatively small budget. The other contractors who provided estimates laughed when they were told that we had a budget of $10,000 for the bathroom remodel project and said it could not be done. Apparently, they were all wrong because our bathroom is completed within our budget and we love it! Tibor is the only contractor who said that he could work with us with out limited budget for our bathroom remodel project and we are very happy with our newly remodeled bathroom. Tibor is a very good contractor and an honorable person and comes with or highest recommendation.

We interviewed 3 different people to do our project and selected Creative Tile for a few reasons. Tibor showed up on time and was very professional. He seemed to be able to grasp what we wanted done with ease and made us feel like it would be easy to do. Tibor's crew showed up each day on time, protected existing carpet and flooring and the work was beautiful. I was not 100% sure what I wanted done in the new bathroom and they were able to come up with a design that was beautiful. We are very happy with the work that Creative Tile preformed. We were so pleased that we asked Tibor to locate a someone to help build a wood shed for us that matched our house - he was able to coordinate the work for us and the shed turned out exactly how we imagined. I would highly recommend Creative Tile and Remodel. One thing I will add - as a homeowner living in the middle of remodel work - they are very neat. They clean up and carry away their garbage - it makes it nice to come home to a neat remodel site.
Description of Work: installed new bathroom, replaced an acrylic molded bathtub shower with a built-in, also completed some unfinished tile work in a powder room and master bathroom
1. We love Tibor. He treated us extremely well. He was very flexible with the work plan to save us as much money as possible. His workers were kind and trustworthy and did a nice job cleaning up after themselves. We were especially impressed with his flooring guy, the tile guys, and the trim guy. Their perfectionism and attention to detail truly made the work stand out! His workers honored our requests about not smoking in or near our house, and none of his workers ever smelled like cigarette smoke. Tibor had his team put down heavy cardboard floor protectors to protect our new hardwood flooring while the rest of the work was being completed. And all the workers removed their shoes when walking on the new carpet. All in all, Tibor and his teams were all such a pleasure to work with. We look forward to working with him (and them) again on our future projects. 2. We had three bids for our project, and Tibor's bid was by far the best and most accurate. Half of our project was paid for by our insurance company, and they did not hesitate to pay for his bill in full, save for the upgrades in the counters and cabinets. Furthermore, Tibor was very considerate about spending our money, even to the point of referring us to someone other than his company who could do the project for less money than he could. For example, we also had new carpet installed throughout the house when the remodeling was complete. He recommended going directly to a carpeting specialist, because we could save money that way. 3. Our biggest complaint: working with his cabinet guy. Now that the project is over, we are thrilled with the cabinets that we had installed. That said, we were so grateful that we were able to obtain cabinet plans from several other cabinet companies before meeting with his cabinet guy, because we were quite specific about what we wanted and needed for our new kitchen, and we wanted to make sure that we bought exactly what we wanted. We'd be hesitant to be assured that his cabinet guy could have met our design plan on his own without our having already provided it for him. When it came to choosing a door style, we struggled. His cabinet guy's website had pencil line drawings of door styles instead of photographs of sample doors, making it near to impossible to visualize what the doors would look like. His door guy gave us a sample, we didn't like it. We sent photos of doors we did like. A week later he gave us another door sample, we didn't like it. We requested a chance to go to his shop to look at several door samples, and we were told their shop was not a showroom, and we were not permitted to go there. After three weeks of looking at line drawings, sending photos of doors we DID like, receiving samples that looked nothing like the photos we sent and getting extremely frustrated, his cabinet guy finally allowed us to go visit the shop. We had a door picked out in less than 10 minutes. 4. Our next complaint has to do with picking out tile. On the plus side, Tibor allowed us to pick our tile and grout. On the negative side, he allowed us to pick our tile and grout. If we didn't have a fairly good sense of style, knowing what we wanted, and if we hadn't had a great deal of time to visit tile shop after tile shop after tile shop, this step would have been a nightmare. If you don't know what you're doing in the tile department, I recommend hiring a consultant. I'm sure design consultants can be a waste of money for some people who have the time, inclination, and knowledge. But if you don't, we recommend getting help. We had no idea how much tile to order. After drawing out detailed plans and making photoshopped tile designs, we sat down with Tibor to estimate the amount of tile we needed for the kitchen. We ended up with JUST the right amount of tile for the kitchen. We thought that Tibor had reviewed our amount of tile needed for the bathrooms, but perhaps it was a mistake on our part, but unfortunately we ended up short (by half) on the amount of tile we ordered for all three bathrooms and had to wait for reorders. 5. Our only other complaint had to do with the granite company's customer service, but that does not reflect badly on Tibor. We shall address our concerns with their company on Angie's List separately. As soon as Tibor realized there was a problem, he was extremely responsive, apologetic on their behalf, and our issues were dealt with promptly. We greatly appreciated that. If you would like to see before and after pictures of the work that was done, please feel free to look here: http://kaysmithbooks.blogspot.com/2014/08/house-renovations-before-and-afters.html All in all, we were thrilled with Tibor and his team of workers. Should we ever have more work we need completed, we will request Tibor to do it. We have been passing out his business cards to all our friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: 1. Complete gut and remodel of the kitchen, including removing dropped ceiling, removing flooring down to the subfloors, install new ceiling with can lights (and dimmer switch), new cabinets, granite counters, marble and tile backsplash, new window, new hardwood floors 2. installed new crown molding, new baseboard moldings, new chair rail and panel moldings (wainscoting) throughout living room, downstairs and upstairs halls, and stairs. 3. new granite counters (and undermounted sinks) in all 3 bathrooms with new tile backsplashes

It went very well, took a bit longer than anticipated but that was more due to the nature and change ups. Tibor kept with in the bid even though the curbs and second water proof membrane were unanticipated.
Description of Work: Tibor and his crew repaired a tile roll in shower pan. the shower pan was the entire floor of the bathroom. they removed the existing tile, slope pan and water proofing membrane, replaced it with a new water proofing membrane, slope pan, curbs built into the pan, another water proofing membrane and tile. His bid did not include tile costs, those were our pick and pay over at the local hardware store.

All my concerns (many) were addressed with patience, expertise, and professionalism both during the estimate process and the job itself. The tile setter was very talented. All workers and subcontractors seemed interested in doing what the customer wanted. They were good at anticipating our needs. The room turned out to be beautiful and we are satisfied with a great job at a good price.

Work went great, fireplace looks amazing. Very happy with the end product and the professionalism of the workers. Only complaint was that it seemed a little expensive for the work done, but every job I get done seems more expensive that I think it should be, and a good contractor is worth the money. I would use them again and probably will for future work.

Tibor did a great job on our bathroom remodel (two bathrooms). We had quite a bit of work done (new heated floors, converted master tub area into large shower with dual shower heads, new tile for guest shower, new cabinets). We were, and still are, very satisfied with end product. Tibor was organized and methodical as the project went on, but we got slowed down few times due to multiple issues (one of which was our fault while picking material). Overall project was planned to last 4-6 weeks, but ended up being about 10 weeks from start to end hence lower grade for "Punctuality". In general, Tibor prefers communication over phone, e-mail was a bit slow, but all the concerns we had during project were addressed quickly and professionally. Tibor was able to stick to the quote price and gave us heads up every time price would change. We did ended up about 10% over original price. Overall end product was and still is great looking and we are happy we choose to work with Tibor on this big project.

We had some delays in starting this project, b/c we were figuring out materials. Tibor and his team were ready to go to work once we had all the materials in place. It took a little longer than we expected, but that was okay, b/c we wanted it done completely and correct. There were some minor SNAFU's with cabinets and some other forgotten parts of the project that we agreed too. Like a foot step in the shower for shaving legs. It was an oversight on Tibor's team, but he made it up in other ways. It was a fair arrangement, but kinda would of rather had the footstep in the shower. The work and construction a few months later is holding up and looks really good. I would recommend to anyone planning to use Tibor's team that they make sure they keep a detailed list of the things they want to happen and take it upon themselves to follow through with the details. Tibor was responsive on text. Which was a nice change from other contractors that we worked with in the past. We had a little grout issue a few months after the completed project and Tibor sent his guy right out to make it right. We appreciated his responsiveness and detailed follow through (with a few reminders from us). We would recommend Tibor and his team. They were professional and followed through with all of our requests. The price Tibor quoted us was the same price we end up paying in the end.

Tibor and his crew did a complete bathroom remodel for us which included an extensive amount of tile work (classic hex and subway); we are very pleased with the end result. The guys were efficient, hard working, and respectful of our home. They did a great job of making our bathroom turn out the way we envisioned. We've noticed a couple places where the floor hex tiles are a bit off, but you have to look closely to find them. To the tile setter's credit, our bathroom dimensions were asymetrical and very challenging to work with. Tibor's price was very reasonable compared to our other bids, and he was able to get the job started right away. We love our new bathroom! Update: It has been over 6 months since the remodel was done and everything is holding up well and we are still very happy with the results.

Tibor Lakatos will definitely get my recommendation as an honest and responsive craftsman. Within a day or two of my call to him for an estimate on a small shower remodel, Tibor arrived promptly for a "once over" of the project. I showed him some pictures of what I was thinking at the time, and then we proceeded to the master bathroom for a look. After looking carefully at what was already in place, and then what I wanted to do with that area, Tibor informed me that it was NOT going to be such a small remodel afterall. Many things I thought were easy fixes turned out to be quite a bit more after discussing it with Tibor. He spent quite a bit of time offering suggestions and thoughts on the matter, but finally, when he gave me an estimate, I knew it was more than I wanted to spend at this time. He then offered another idea and recommended a contractor for the job. I called this contractor and was thrilled with his rapid response and professionalism, also. So, even though Tibor did not do work at this time, I was VERY pleased with his honesty and professionalism, not to mention his knowledge of the job. I would not hesitate to recommend him on these characteristics if you are in need of an estimate for a project. Thank you, Tibor!!

My wife and I had our bathroom remodeled by Tibor and his crew. We wanted to keep the costs low and thus chose to buy all of the supplies ourselves and do the electrical work. Tibor was very willing to work with these constraints. The scope of work was moving a wall between two bathrooms, adding a room in the master bath with shower and toilet, moving all of the fixtures, tiling floor and shower walls. Overall, the work was done quite well, especially the tile floor looks great! The work was not completed on time with regard the original estimate; but there was daily work done on our bathroom to get it completed. Our shower pan was slightly damaged during the work and Tibor ensured to get it repaired professionally. It was really great working with him and am very satisfied with his work; I would definitely hire him again.
Description of Work: Drywall installation Floor Tiling Shower Wall Tiling Bathroom Fixture Relocation Plumbing Wall Framing Shower Tub Framing
Lots of pros mixed with a few cons from this lengthy series of jobs. Net result was two beautifully remodeled bathrooms, one updated bathroom that looks great, and wonderful hardwood floors. But getting there was harder than expected. Tibor is in all respects a hard-working, experienced, honorable contractor who strains to make jobs go well. His foreman, Justin, is cut from the same mold and fixes a lot of problems left by various subcontractors. The subcontractors, however, are of widely varying demeanors and skill levels, and if you do the work during the peak construction season, expect delays, trouble getting a firm fix on when crews may arrive, and plenty of things that may fall through the cracks, so to speak. You must also be prepared to do all design work on your own of through a separately hired professional. Tibor has established a rather broad network of preferred vendors, and some of them are simply extraordinary. But there are also a couple of clunkers in the mix. So knowing what materials you want to use, colors and approaches, all on the basis of your own homework, is essential. Tibor's best sub contractors are really, really good. His flooring guys are simply outstanding--the hardest working individuals I think I have ever seen, ruthlessly efficient yet focused always on doing a beautiful job. His tile-setter is meticulous and does beautiful work. The electrician and his apprentice are real characters; they know their stuff. We had bad luck with the mirror and shower vendor, who told us one thing and delivered another (Tibor made it right from his own pocket); with one member of his Tibor's main crew, a rather insolent, sneering guy who used the wrong seal on the shower stall, which meant it leaked and had to be partially redone (again, at Tibor's expense); and with the plumber, who did not get the right permits, did not install toilets when he was supposed to and seemed unable to comply with city standards without two or three tries at it. We also were very impressed with the spray painter who set up a studio in our garage and beautifully refinished a dozen doors; a really good guy. And, finally, a special thanks to Touchstone, the outfit that supplied the countertops. They gave us a good price, produced the tops in just days and got them installed quickly and well when we needed that to happen. Tibor's relationship with Touchstone made that possible. The crush of summertime business; Tibor's "all on a post-it note or in his head" scheduling system and the continual sense that Tibor's people were putting out fires right and left, which left them unable to actually plan and stick to a project schedule, all led to delays. But, in the end, everything (except one small thing) got done, we love the bathrooms, we love the floors and we consider Tibor and Creative Tile and Remodeling to be a real find.

Tibor came out to see the job very promptly. He was very easy to talk to and was descriptive about what he would do and how he would do it. He was flexible about the start date as the schedule on our end slipped a bit and came with his tiler the first day to ensure everything was in order and as we discussed. The tiler did a very nice job on the prep work and floor tile. A separate crew came out to finish the curb and shower. They were very easy to discuss ideas with and to iron out the details with regarding the many design decisions that had to be made. They did very clean work and the job came out looking terrific for a very reasonable price.
Description of Work: Tibor and his crew started in my bathroom after I had torn out floor and walls and had the subfloor back in. They put down backer board, in-floor electric heating, self leveling cement, and then laid floor tile (long plank porcelain tiles). They also did the shower starting from the studs. They poured the slope, formed the curb, backer board all around with a shelf, and finished with marble subway tile including a corner foot rest.

I can't say enough good things about Tibor and his team. We were in a really tight spot and need help correcting a tile job started by a different person. We contacted Tibor and he responded immediately. He came out to our house the very same day and provided a quote the very next day as committed. We hired him immediately and he was able to start the job earlier than expected. The design help offered by Tibor and his team was helpful and allowed us to make some decisions and changes on the fly. He got us out of a jam and we are very grateful to him. All of the work done turned out amazing and the quality of the work is outstanding. We would not hesitate to hire him again. Tibor came out, inspected the bathroom and gave me a good price on the work early in the week, and Friday his tilers came out to start the job. They laid down Ram board and were very clean. Tibor's tilers did a very good job; very straight lines and nice cuts. They were good about advising about what kind of products to get. I had originally gotten some inferior tiles and had to go back and get some replacements, and even though that cost me a little (wasn't that much) I'm glad I did it because it made the whole job look a lot better. Tibor advised to get extra tile because Slate has a tendency to splinter and shatter. The tilers were so good that I don't think they broke any. Very professional and quality work!

Overall quality is good. We are satisfied with the work done. Tibor was friendly, honest, straight forward, and easy to work with. His bid were among the lowest of what we were quoted. His workers and sub-contractors are professional, and they did a good job. The only downside was with the schedule. We started the remodeling in mid February, but only completed in mid June. We took a month off in May for vacation, so no work in May. But still, 90 days for a bathroom remodeling was way too long. A large part of the initial delay were not Tibor's fault though, my wife and I were struggling to decide on which piece of hardware to get, and waiting for them to arrive. Also, my wife wanted a custom vanity, and it took a while to decide on the style. We had another contractor (recommended by Tibor) build the vanity. But this part of the communication didn't go very well, and it took more than 40 days from our initial drop of the design details, until the vanity was ready for delivery. Fortunately we are quite impressed with the final delivery and satisfied by the quality of the wood work. And Tibor was very apologetic about the mis-communication happened too. We understood that he also had other projects that needed his attention, so we didn't give him a hard time either. But still, things could have moved a lot smoother had the scheduling been done better. It was sometimes frustrating when workers didn't show up when they were supposed to. As for the actual work they did, I have only goods words. Tibor and his men are professional, responsible, and also proud of their own work.
Description of Work: Master bathroom remodel. Demo and remove existing door/shower/tub/counter/sink/floor, open up two walk-in closets into one, and closed one door. Installed everything new: floor and wall tiles/grouts/shower/tub/vanity/mirror/light/vent/sliding door/base molding, and painted door, ceiling and walls. The cost was labor only, we bought all tiles, fixtures, and hardware ourselves separately, and ordered a new vanity through this contractor (price not included above).

I began tiling the backsplash myself in my kitchen with a glass and stone mosaic tile from Home Depot. Started off fine, but I began running into problems as it continued which I'm not going to go into detail because I'm not reviewing myself. Let's just say it's a good thing I hired Creative Tile and Remodel. Tibor came a day after I called and looked at what I began and suggested fixing a few rows in the tile and gave a bid to finish the project. He also noted that the stone tiles should be sealed before grouting because I was using a very fast drying grout. I didn't know this, and no other people that bid the project mentioned this. Tibor and his employees or sub-contracters he uses seemed rather busy, but he made it a point to try to get our work done as soon as possible despite the fact that they were busy and I ran out of tile towards the end! I ordered more tile fearing I'd get charged more for the extra trip coming up. Never even brought up, just a different person to finish the job the next week after my new tile arrived. In between waiting for my new tile to arrive with most of the tile on the wall, the handyman who was helping install the range hood for me started giving me a hard time about not having the tiling done yet. He wanted to get the hood up, and the tiling needed to be done first. I called Tibor and asked him the name of the sealer so I could seal and grout the section behind the range hood area myself just to get this handyman off my back and out of my life. After we talked and he gave me the name of it, he decided he would drive over later that day and apply the sealer himself so I could grout that evening and my annoying handyman could finish and stop whining. Tibor didn't want me to have to go and buy a $30 bottle of sealer. This was Tibor's idea, not mine. I didn't even consider it. I realized that with the struggles I've been having with another contracter was the exact opposite to Tibor. The handyman was acting like my toddler, and Tibor was acting like an adult. Tibor gave us a bid in line with other quality tiling contracters. It was not the cheapest bid, but a great price for the many trips and halts and help he gave us to finish our backsplash within something like a week even with many mistakes on my part. The finished product looks great.
Description of Work: Tile, seal, and grout about 35 square feet of kitchen backsplash. Fix a couple rows of tile that I began myself and were crooked. Price included labor, sealer, and mastic. I provided grout and tile which are not included in the price.

1) An outstanding team of 2 came to clear out a very small bathroom! Team came early and the team was amazing. All carpets were covered. 2) Dry Rot was taken care of in 2 days which was also done extremely well. I was very impressed and a beam was put in and a pan was made, as the other pan had leaked after 30 years. A floor was put in, and then tiled. 3) Tiler was a perfectionist in so many ways, that the job was taking longer than planned, due to leaving early, having personal issues and misunderstandings of the way the shower was going to be completed. I could not explain the way the tiles were to be placed, so Tibor was there to solve challenges, that came up with the project. 6) Tibor monitored the project and is a very caring and conscientious, Contractor and I felt lucky to have him heading the project with an outstanding electrician, plumber, dry rot specialist and painter. 4) When challenges came up, Tibor was able to listen and understand my concerns and made adjustments. Justin did a great job and I wish he could have started the project at the beginning. 5) I was surprised to find I owed about 3-4 M, for extra paint, for walls, door & molding installation and an old fashioned lighting fixture taken out. I just wasn't planning on the extra money I owed. 6) I was pleased most days that the mess was contained and or looked like "Work In Progress". 7) I felt that I needed to know when people were going to show up and it seemed, hit and miss, verses an organized schedule. Sometimes, a no show and then, other times a drop in, as I was not willing to leave a key, due to alarm etc. I found this to be confusing and frustrating on many days, as we ended up missing one another, due to no real schedule. 8) The front door had to be kept open and with all the in and outs of so many different individuals, the door didn't close properly and the screen was damaged and we ended up calling it even, due to the stress of the project. 9) After, Justin came in to save the day, with some of the challenges, I was happy with the work, that was done. A totally new and very nice looking bathroom was finished! The work was to be completed in 10 days, but we ran over 8 days, which is fantastic in the Remodeling World. .
