We called 3 surveyors to get quotes on the job, and Caswell was competitive with the others, and was close by as well; we were also impressed by their demeanor on the phone. They came out the next day to do the survey at the time we'd scheduled, and did the survey in the space of an hour or so (our lot is overgrown on one end where it abuts a piece of woods owned by Portland General Electric; this end is a little hard to get around, but it's where the original marker is). Two days later they delivered a finished map of the lot to us (rather than mail it). They originally quoted a price of not more than $1400; the final price was $1150, well within the quote.
Description of Work: Caswell Hertel sent out a surveyor to determine the boundaries of our residential lot. They worked from a marker at one corner and generated a map of the lot, and placed a corner marker on one front corner to mark the boundary with the neighbor who had requested the survey.

I contacted the company by telephone and was given quotations for the services. An appointment to do the survey was set for the day after Labor Day. The three-man crew that did the survey were very professional and answered any questions we had. Everything was completed within a week, and Mr. Hertel delivered the results to us. I've talked to the local TV reporter doing a follow-up to the flood insurance story and he was amazed at the work that was done for $600. Anyone with this sort of flood insurance problem should contact the company. They offer a very professional service at a modest cost.
Description of Work: Our mortgage holder demanded flood insurance saying we were in the FEMA flood plain. The insurance issuer required an Elevation Certificate to confirm their original rating. I picked this company because of the positive comments from people needing the same service. The company quoted $400 for the Elevation Certificate which was much less than quoted on a program about flood insurance on a local TV station. The company said if they thought the findings showed we should not be said to be in the flood plain, they offered to complete a LOMA Survey and submit it to FEMA for an additional $200.

Excellent. Al Hertel quickly gave me an estimate over email, and I sched a date. I got estimates from 4 survey companies and his was the best, plus he had preformed several of these surveys recently. Al showed up on time as scheduled. He was very friendly, and took time to explain the process and FEMA requirements. He took one trip to make measurements of the house, and the next day completed the survey from a known elevation. He dropped off the survey results / elevation certificate in person, and explained the results. I'll use him again if needed and recommend to others.
Description of Work: Survey performed for Flood Elevation Certificate required for flood insurance required by FEMA.

Everything went according to plan - billing came in 15% under initial estimate. Estimate was lower than competitive bids. Surveyor worked closely with me to help me submit necessary documents to the county for the property line readjustment. Work was all done professionally and on schedule.
Description of Work: 1. Survey for Siting a New Garage and House Extension: Surveyed all existing buildings, roads, wells, septic system and pump, on site utilities, contours at 1'-0" intervals and all trees 8" in diameter or larger within 70 ft of existing house in a heavily forested area. 2. Survey for Property line Adjustment: trading - 1 acre of land between two 4 acre properties: completed property line adjustments survey items required by county per their published documents: Surveyed the 2 properties, set new property pins and drafted new legal descriptions for the area to be transferred and for both modified parcels.
