Big Jim's Home Repair

Jim and his helper Bob Arrived at 8:00 am at my Home. Jim's company has a large trailer work shop. He was all set up with the appropriate tools to remove my 27 year old wooden stairway. The stair way was completely removed in the first 45 minutes and loaded on Jim's truck for recycling. The new aluminum attic fold down ladder was safely installed in the next 1-1/2 hour. What a great job, Jim certainly had the proper tools. He gave me instructions how to properly use the fold down Stairway,as well as make sure it was put back in the ceiling frame. The entire garage area was picked up an swept before they departed. In fact the garage floor was cleaner than when the arrived for the job. Jim and Bob ,THANK YOU.

I contacted Big Jim and outlined the job to him, primarily using Angie's List message center. Jim was responsive to my messages. He explained he could do the job and thought that it would take a couple of hours. He also explained he had a couple of outside jobs and would like to to do my job on a cooler or rainy day. We tentatively scheduled a day about 10 - 11 days out. I asked for him to contact me a couple of days before to confirm the date and time. Two days before the job I reached out to confirm the date we had tentatively agreed on. Jim confirmed via email and phone call he would be at the house by 9 AM on the date arranged. He was prompt, friendly and professional. His co-worker Bob, arrived 5 minutes later and they quickly got to work. As he estimated, the job took 2 hours. I would recommend Jim for almost any handyman type work you might need.

I would not recommend them. They did good work but, the guy took forever. He talked a lot. Big Jim sub-contracted the work to another guy that needed the work and he took forever and talked a lot. He didn't have his tools, brought his kid and then had to go back to his house and then his dad showed up. It was very inconvenient for me to have a kid in my house. I had to put my dogs in another place. He told me his life story. It wasted time, It took him seven hours because he talked a lot. I discussed that with Big Jim and I had him leave. Big Jim came over and did it. I'm sure Big Jim would have been fine.

Jim did a great job getting our house ready to sell. He knew we had a deadline we were trying to meet with getting our house on the market and he went the extra mile to make sure we got our siding installed in time even staying up until midnight to get the siding painted to match the night before and coming early on a Saturday so we could list the house later that day. Jim's repairs made a big difference and we were able to sell our house within 36 hours of being on the market. His prices were very reasonable as well. I highly recommend Big Jim's Home Repairs and we will be using them on our new house as well.

Jim did a great job! Because we had no idea how bad the water/ant damage would be until he pulled off the siding, the original quote was less than the final price, but repairing all the water/ant damage only added about $1500 to the cost, which we felt was reasonable considering how bad it was. Jim also worked to get us his painter right when the work was done so we could take advantage of the great weather and get the painting done right away. Jim did a thorough job but he didn't try to sell us anything we didn't need, which we really appreciated. He takes great pride in his work and the new trim and siding looks beautiful. Jim even had his assistant come out and repair all of our screens - which were torn from the previous owner! When you buy a new house and find there is thousands of dollars worth of unexpected repairs, it is hard to trust anyone! Jim really understood what we were going through and I feel like our house is in great shape now.

A panel of vinyl siding flew off during the windstorm. I called Jim, got to voice mail, left message, and within 1 minute, he called back. Within 1 hour, he on his way to the house to take a look. Within 2 hours, he called back with a price. Excellent super speedy service. Very happy!!

Jim and his crew did a great job. The house is water tight and looks great. They had to overcome several obstacles with the weather, but managed to get the siding done and house painted just in time. We called them back for fence repairs after the wind storms damaged several posts and they did a quality job repairing the fence.

Scheduled quickly after bid accepted. Started on time, just as I left for work. Finished the next day as estimated, including restoring gravel and bark dust level at the bottom of the fence, no wood detritus left behind, gates functional. Good pieces of fencing - no knots. Posts rated for ground contact. Lines straight and posts true down a miniscule grade.

My regular handyman missed two appointments, so I was in a rush to get the job finished by the weekend. I called James, and he stopped by for an estimate the same day. He showed up the next day (Friday) to do the install. Installation required changing direction of exhaust fan flow, and setting unit in space with a 1/16" clearance. The job required drilling into my granite tile backsplash (which Home Depot installers refused to do), which James did with the correct drill bit, no problem. After install, he cleaned the work area, and also hauled away the dead machine.

Went well. Work seems thorough and with quality.

Woke up on 2/7/14 to find a pool of water on the floor, and a large amount of water dripping off a beam in our ceiling. Outside it was cold, snowing & very windy with 4-5 inches of snow on the ground. Called Jim of Big Jim's Home Repair. He was able to come out the same day inspite of the inclement weather. He found an area of the roof where a previous contractor tied in a patio cover causing water/snow/ice to build up and not allowing it to drain properly. As a result it was diverted under our shingles and drained inside our home. It took 2 days in very poor weather, using a propane heater & a tent on the roof to complete the job. Also, by coming out and stopping our leak right away, he saved us from having even more water damage on the interior of our home. Thank you Big Jim!

Jim arrived promptly at the appointed time and had all necessary equipment. He and his wife placed tarps on the stairs and floors to catch debris. Jim was meticuous in the placement and anchoring of the equipment I had purchased; he's a "measure three times and cut once" type of service provider. All work was performed promptly and professionally. Clean-up was meticulous and the charge was very fair. My wife and I were well-pleased with Jim's services.

I needed to do some maintenance on our house in preparation for selling, and Jim gave us estimates for three different jobs: one for pressure washing and painting one side of our house, another for cleaning our roof, and another for priming and painting a peaked section of siding and trim that was only accessible from the roof. After deciding to do some of the work ourselves, we ended up hiring Jim for the priming and painting of the second level siding and trim. Jim was very responsive. He stopped by the same day I called him to give me the estimates, and he was able to schedule the work in between some larger jobs he had the following week. He also gave me suggestions on the jobs I decided to do on my own. He and his wife completed the job in about three hours, and it looks great!

We inadvertently drilled a hole in the washer drain pipe behind the drywall, and had over time the water damaged the wall, the floor, the insulation and even got to the boards under the outside siding. Big Jim found a window in his schedule when we explained that we needed the work done by certain deadline. Efficiently diagnosed the issue - and fixed it quickly and beautifully. The final bill came well under his initial estimate- but it was one of those things that you won't know the true amount of work until you tear things down to look for a source of the problems.

Our initial contact was several months ago at which time he told me he was quite busy, but would get to it as soon as he could. Bad weather set in but when it cleared up he got back to me. The paint pealing was worse than originally thought. He removed all that he could and primed the bare wood. It apparently had never been primed. The weather was a bit better but he still had to wait out a day of rain between priming and painting. He was able to match the paint exactly from a strip of the pealing paint and trim. He was very meticulous about the job and it looks beautiful. During that day of rain between priming and painting, my garage door opener spring broke. When he came the next day I mentioned it and he said he could fix that as well. He removed it that day and brought a new spring the next day and installed it. He even lifted the 200+lb. door so I could get my car out in case I needed it. I was very happy with the work he did, and felt the price was very fare. Thank you Jim.

Nice people. Jim gave us an estimate the same day I contacted him, we negotiated a date but due to a break in the weather he was able to do the repairs several days earlier than originally planned. We liked Jim and his wife so much that we plan to use them on our bathroom remodel later this year.

Jim responded quickly to my request for an estimate to repair water damage to a closet ceiling and the ceiling joists and interior wood. The work involved drying out the wood, treating it to prevent mold development, replacing the damaged wallboard and painting. He arrived on time for the estimate and provided a very competitive price for the work. He was able to complete the work about three weeks after he provided the estimate. The finished product looks great and the room was cleaned up and restored to its original level of cleanliness.

The job went extremely well. Jim and Christina we very easy to work and their attention to detail made for a first class finished product.. There was minimal disruption to our daily routine. I would recommend them to anyone looking to have home repair done. We plan on having them bid on a future remodel of our bathroom.

Excellent work. Jim did a good job matching the color to our already sun faded current siding and the job turned out perfect. High quality and timely. This was our second job that Big Jim has done and we will continue to use him in the future.

The finished job looks extremely professional and should solve all of the problems we were having with moisture leaking in around the window frame. Jim gave me an estimate and stuck with that estimate. The work was completed within the agreed upon parameters.
