Alex Freddi was personable, helpful and always available for communication. His workers arrived on the designated date, came on time, and cleaned up very day. They were easy to work with, friendly, competent and professional. The recommended companies that we used was excellent. Our bathroom remodel was painless and resulted in a beautiful bathroom.
"We have no idea who this person is. There is no phone number to call this member. No service was performed. We try to reply to all inquiries within the next business day."
Additionally around the same time, we discovered some issues with our DIY fireplace re-finishing that caused us some pause before moving forward with the work ourselves. Not only did Alex quickly turn around an extremely reasonable quote, but Bill and Bob transitioned seamlessly into the fireplace work, restructured the hearth from below and rebuilt the stone tile design to perfection. Again, we couldn't have been happier. We'd be more than happy to recommend Alex and his crew to everyone we know.
Specifics you might want to know about their operation: after signing the contract with Alex, the construction team, Bill & Bob, took charge. With them, we made many changes to the project (especially electrical and the fireplace) without writing out change orders. Other than one time when we had to check with Alex on the basic materials he quoted, we trusted Bill & Bob to keep track of extra time and materials, as well as verbal instructions. A few little things were overlooked, such as a light switch not wired as we requested, but the tradeoff was a lot less stress than micromanaging. And we think the costs for the extra work were reasonable in the end.
Also know that deadlines are closer than you think. If you haven't picked out all of your cabinets, counters, tile, flooring, lighting, plumbing and hardware in advance: DO IT NOW and you won't have to keep checking with your team about when certain subcontractors are scheduled to stay ahead of them!
When we bought this fixer, my husband and I really wanted to get our hands dirty and do as much as we could. Alex and his team worked with us to step in where we needed, or even take over when we couldn't complete items ourselves. Not only do they provide quality work, but they looked for areas that we could improve and made suggestions that made a world of difference. I met with several contractors and Alex was by far our favorite. They are professional and priced just right (they were right in the middle of all our bids). The big thing for us, is they worked with us and we appreciated all their time to get this project completed! Thanks Alex and Gary... you guys are the best! Sorry for the late review!
Here are some of the reasons why we give an A rating on the work Alex Freddi Construction LLC did on our kitchen remodel during Dec 2015-Jan 2016. The cost shown on the project includes labor and material.
Expertise. Having someone with extensive work experience and knowledge in the area helped us tremendously as this was our first big remodel project. Alex walked us through the process, provided detailed documentation on what to expect, how to prepare for the remodel, and patiently answered our (endless) questions before the remodel began. Alex’s team Bob (Project Manager) and Bill patiently answered questions during and after the remodel.
Timeliness. From the time we called to make an appointment to get an estimate on the project to the end of the remodel, we found that Alex and his team were timely in their response and we saw them work hard to keep with the scheduled timeline they had given us before they started the remodel. The remodel team showed up to work at 7 a.m. every day until the work was finished 5 weeks later!
Communication. Alex gave us an estimate the evening of the day he came over to discuss our kitchen remodel! He promptly phoned/emailed us back on questions we had during the process. His team was always reachable, on phone/text throughout the remodel. When we requested changes they were accommodating and clear in explaining what the change entailed, so we were in the know throughout the process. We really appreciated them keeping us updated on the progress of the remodel work.
Professionalism. Alex provided us with all the paperwork, license information, agreement of work, references, how to prepare for the remodel, along with a detailed cost estimate on the remodel. His team Bob, Bill, electricians, plumber, and other staff were professional, and extremely good natured.
Budget. Alex gave us an estimate that we found agreeable before we decided to go with his proposal. We were pleasantly surprised to receive a refund after the remodel!
Kindness. During the project we had a family emergency and had to leave the country before the remodel was finished. Alex, Bob and Bill agreed to take on the responsibility of finishing the work while we were gone, so we could come back to a completely remodeled kitchen. Bob texted us pictures of the completed work when we were away. We will always remember them for their kindness for going above and beyond what was expected of them.
Everyone that we dealt with, including project manager Grayson, was professional and responsive to any questions we had. We would definitely hire them again, and recommend them.
Our home is in the north Mt. Tabor area, was built in 1928, and it had the original kitchen. The kitchen was small, cramped, no room for a dishwasher, and not functional or easy in which to work or cook. Gary was our contractor and he was great to work with. He was responsive to all our concerns and questions and made our wishes a priority. The remodel involved removing a back door and walling it off. Also, the pantry was closed off and extended into the bathroom for added shelving. Gary coordinated all the different trades who came in to work. All the workmen were great, i.e., Luke, RJ the electrician, the lathe and plaster demolishers, Angel and his coworker who put in all new drywall, and Norm who laid the tile backsplash. The guys were all friendly, polite, and respectful to our home, and patient with and kind to our 2 dogs. Norm, especially, was a perfectionist with the tile work, he did a beautiful job. He and Gary worked tirelessly to mount and install our cabinetry perfectly, not an easy job since our old kitchen was not perfectly straight.
I was pleasantly surprised that the remodel process went as smoothly as it did. The work was completed in 6 weeks, and our new kitchen and bathroom shelving are beautiful.
The cost of the project included labor, basic construction materials, permits, and the trades work. It was up to us to purchase on our own the materials and fixtures, such as the cabinets, countertops, tile, grout, light and plumbing fixtures, appliances, door/drawer pulls, faucet, and paint. At first it felt daunting to be responsible for these things, but we learned a lot about materials and how to shop for and purchase them.
I would highly recommend Alex Freddi and his team.
My specific team consisted of Kathryn Renz, the designer, and both Bob "the Builder" Locus and "Mr. Bill" Pacholl who were the heart of the demo and reconstruct process.
The house is a small 1929 Laurelhurst cottage in Portland OR, with beautiful old woodwork. My fear was that a kitchen remodel would destroy the ambiance of the 1929 structure. Not a problem! Kathryn Renz has vision. She redesigned the kitchen retaining delightful old features that other designers failed to incorporate, despite my requests. She guided me to decisions regarding specific aspects of the remodel, such as choice of granite, counters, tile, flooring and lighting. I am comfortable with my choices and the money I spent.
I needed a modern kitchen that carried through elements from the rest of the house, especially the old mahogany woodwork. Bob Locus hand-crafted new molding for the kitchen that is such a close match to the original house molding that one must look several times to see any differences. The continuity was more, and more beautiful, than I hoped for.
By the by: Bob and Bill exceeded my expectations. They are great workers, efficient, and congenial. They roll with the punches, and they are Trustworthy. My husband and I were away twice during construction for a total of about 11 days. We had no qualms about leaving the key. Also, Bob's subcontractors (e.g. lead removal) were great.
