Gary was the project manager for my recent kitchen remodel. He was professional, knowledgeable, (patient as I searched for the best prices on finishes!), and well-organized. While this company wasn't the cheapest bid I received, the timing of fitting my project into their busy schedule was ideal -- and I'm so glad I chose them! Gary's expertise and management of the sub-contractors, was on-point. I was able to trust his judgement and advice without reservation. The final result was even more beautiful than I envisioned! As part of the kitchen remodel contract, they provided the free services of a kitchen designer. Kathryn was immensely helpful in presenting design options for my tiny kitchen that I hadn't thought of, and she worked tirelessly to make sure I ended up with the functionality that I needed. I will definitely use this team again for any future home projects, and gladly recommend them!

The quality of workmanship, the communication with both Alex and the contractors, the cleanliness of the job site and overall professionalism of all exceeded our wildest dreams. We could not be happier with our new kitchen, 2 new bathrooms and all new basement living space. We have so much more natural light, feel much more secure with all new electrical and plumbing and are now actually proud to have our friends and family over. Hire this guy -worth every penny and then some!

Excellent! Work was completed close to estimated timeline and cost (there are always unexpected issues but they were dealt with quickly and competently.) We are delighted with both projects. We appreciate Alex Freddi's construction estimate for labor, construction materials and services such as permit inspections. We purchased materials for flooring, walls, windows and our new applicances separately based on lists of vendors provided by Alex Freddi or designer Kathryn Renz. With the help of Kathryn Renz we put together rooms we love because they reflect our choices of materials and colors. Project managers for the kitchen were Grayson and Wayne and for the bathroom/laundry we worked with Kyle. We are glad to recommend this firm because the contractors and subcontractors did outstanding work.

Alex is a true professional, made excellent suggestions and gave very detailed estimate & project proposal. Gary Nieuwhof, our project manager could not have been better! He was attentive to our desires every step of the way & delivered quality results. He handled unexpected underground plumbing challenges with a positive attitude and great follow-through. We were very satisfied with our kitchen remodel with Alex Freddi. It was a major undertaking but they assisted us along the way in a no pressure manner. While Alex Freddi may not necessarily be cheapest contractor, we found that the quality of work and professionalism more than made up for this since the job was done right the first time. We first met with Kathryn, the designer, to go over the overwhelming choices in a major remodel such as this. She was a great conduit between our ideas (including excellent 3D imaging of the project) and communication to the project managers of what materials and tasks would be required. The success of the project was largely due to Project Manager Kyle Novak. Kyle was very clear about timelines and expectations and he kept the project moving. He also did the majority of the work outside of plumbing and electrical and the quality of his work was outstanding. He planned everything out from the start including walking through clearance and fit questions I had not considered. The custom cabinet trim and crown molding is flawless. Tricky cabinet handles were perfectly attached. We literally had zero issues with the craftsmanship. Kyle also coordinated and worked well with the standard kitchen subs (electrical, plumbing, drywall) but also our flooring subcontractor. As the project expanded a bit beyond the original contract, he clearly spelled out the costs and schedule impact so we could make an informed decision. Kyle also arrived when he said he would each day and explained when he would need to leave or be on another job (usually when we were waiting for materials or when other subs were working). It was clear he was not playing musical projects with us. He also was quick to answer texts or phone calls, even answering a couple text questions long after the project was completed. On top of this he is a very pleasant and easy going guy. If someone is going to be in your chaotic home for several weeks, they may as well be fun to be around. This was also true of every single one the subcontractors - each of them professional, courteous and answered our questions. We highly recommend Alex Freddi and plan to use them for an upcoming bathroom remodel. It's obvious they listen and care about the customer. They transformed our half broken down kitchen into the centerpiece of our house that we are proud to show off.

We chose this company because we liked the owner, Alex (who does seem to be a good guy, despite what we went through), after doing a walk-through with him and we felt that even though he was expensive, we would get high quality results that would be worth the extra cost. Everything started off fine. The kitchen remodel went fairly well, but when it came time to start the rest of the remodel, things went downhill very rapidly. The guys who were hired to install the wood flooring in the dining room, living room, and stairs had absolutely no idea what they were doing. We told Alex we wanted someone else to do the flooring and he said he would indeed find someone else. Instead of actually doing so, he gave us the same incompetent guys. I want to be clear that these guys were not the only problem we had with this company, they are merely an example. The kitchen remodel took 5 weeks. The rest of the downstairs, which should have only taken a few weeks at most, took nearly 2 months. As the remodel wore on, the quality of workmanship, the ability of Alex, our project manager, and our foreman to communicate with us, and the respect and care that should be given to someone's home, all decreased significantly. I could go on and on complaining about our experience, but I'll leave it at this: if you hire Alex Freddi Construction, there's a very good chance that at some point, either during the remodel or after, you will regret it. We certainly do.

The job went exactly as promised from the beginning to end. Their "process" is unusual...Alex (SO NICE!!!) came to the house and listened to what WE wanted. He offered suggestions only after thoroughly listening to us, and even then offered them in a very non-pushy, non-offensive way, recognizing that people have different tastes and needs. He then gave an estimate of labor based on his understanding of what we wanted. As well, there's an estimate for the smaller materials (nails, caulking, etc.) and obvious disclosures for unknowns ie asbestos, mold, and so on. A designer is included in the price if one purchases cabinets or countertops through the designer. Everything else is purchased by the home owner. We were responsible for buying appliances, countertops, pulls, cabinets and so on, thus we were very involved and always knew our expenses. If we changed something with the design or something unexpected popped up, Alex promptly let us know what the difference in cost would be. It was exactly the set-up that I wanted: we felt a part of every step and we had a very clear understanding of the cost, even if changes were made. The work itself was superior. Grayson of NW Kitchen Design must be an orchestral master – sending crews to various sites, adapting schedules when deliveries aren’t made or glitches happen. Wayne, our foreman, was awesome – accessible and highly skilled. I work from home a lot, so was there most of the time. Each and every person who worked on our kitchen was professional and took great pride in their work. They generally cleaned up well at the end of each day (a couple of lapses to be honest). They wouldn’t leave loads of garbage in the garage, but rather either took it away by truck or dumpster that only stayed for one day during demolition – very organized! Days would go by without any work on the house (which made me worry about timing)…but they finished on time as promised (8 weeks). I can’t say enough about the finished product. It truly is perfect. Not sure if we’re over-the-top picky or if this is normal, but we wanted perfection. They didn’t stop until our punch list was completed to our great satisfaction!

Work was performed with high quality and in the timeframe promised. Very flexible as I changed my mind/requested additional work.

Alex Freddi and team turned our dated bath into a beautiful spa bathroom. Their work is precise and done right on budget and time. We appreciated their guidance and ideas. Looking forward to working with them on our next project!

Alex provided the original estimate last year. He was very polite and his estimate was the most thorough and most professionally presented of all the contractors we contacted. We ended up scaling down our plans and waiting a year. Alex was kind enough to come back out to our house and revisit the estimate based on the changes to our plans. We decided to go with another contractor who was a bit more within our price range. Alex's price was still reasonable and, if we could afford it, we would have picked him. We appreciated that he was very open to us getting whatever fixtures we wanted. Some other contractors were pushy about using their suppliers.

Let's put it this way: you should choose Alex Freddi if you really like nagging people. Otherwise, find someone else. Our experience was that Alex's team did the absolute minimum to meet the letter of the contract, and it was up to us to call them out, over and over again, until they did a reasonable job. We wanted some cabinets removed and the wall behind them painted, and they did that; they didn't actually prep the wall in any way, nor did they actually paint the wall enough to cover. So we came home to find obvious holes, marks, and raised areas where the cabinet used to be, with portions of the old paint streaked throughout. This was good enough for them, until we called them out to fix it. Similarly, the new tile pushed the outlet plates out further from the wall than they had previously been. Despite Alex explicitly calling out the fact that they'd need to extend the boxes in his bid, they decided not to do it. So the first time we plugged an appliance in, the outlet sank an inch into the wall before it stopped. So, yeah. A bunch of call backs to get the paint right (until we gave up and did it ourselves), four separate attempts to do the tile in a reasonable way (which created a considerable amount of wasted tiles, which were not cheap), paint and dry wall material splattered everywhere, little to no communication (and zero quality control) from our project manager, and a 2-3 week project that spread to 6-7 weeks due to the team's continual incompetence and disinterest. Sound like fun yet? Now, I'll admit, that in the end, the final product looks ... OK to good. Certainly not great, but pretty good. Hence the D; the experience was terrible, but the result was not awful. So again, if nagging people until they finally do a reasonable job sounds fun to you, then this is the company for you. However, I understand that there are many construction folks in Portland who do great work without nagging. We're going to try to find one of them for our next remodel.

Great! We HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Alex Freddi and his team. They really made this process as painless as it can be, and had excellent communication throughout the project. We pretty much heard from the project manager, Gary, each day as to the status of the project, and he updated a google calendar showing when certain tasks were being performed. We are highly satisfied with the finished work product. Alex's estimate was fair and detailed enough so we knew what we were paying for. We worked with his designer Kathryn who listened to our needs and helped tremendously to set the perfect layout for our small space. The project manager Gary was a pleasure to work with and really communicated things well throughout the process. We liked the fact that on some of the smaller details he would just take care of it and we always liked his choices. He was great with our dogs that roamed the house. A week after the project was finished, we noticed a leak from the dishwasher that damaged our newly installed flooring. Within a day, Gary inspected the dishwasher with his plumber to determine the cause of the leak and mitigated the damage, and after we ordered more product, fixed the flooring. The leak WAS NOT from anything Alex and his team did, it was a manufacturing defect from the dishwasher. Alex tried to comp their time as part of their warranty, but we wouldn't let them. Just shows they care more about keeping their customers happy than squeezing a few extra bucks out from the project -- which is more than you can say for most contractors.

We are very happy with the work. This is the third project Alex has done for us; all the workmanship has been exceptional. The lead carpenter, Kyle Novak, can do just about anything, and is a meticulous worker.

Our Contractor, Gary was an excellent project manager and did a great job remodeling our kitchen. We would definitely hire Gary and Alex Freddi constructionagain to work on our house. Gary was professional, responsive, and very accommodating during the Remodel.

We weren't sure we wanted to start and live through this project with 3 little kids but Alex Freddi's reviews were extremely positive with Angie's List. Alex came and met us right away and was extremely professional. His bid was perfect for our budget and he also had a designer (Kathryn) who could help us sort the details out. Kathryn nailed the design on the project and was very helpful with pointing us where to buy countertops, cabinets, tile, etc... Grayson, Daren and their team were wonderful to work with on the overall project. They are great guys who are extremely thoughtful and responsive. They did a great job and we would absolutely work with them again.

Alex Freddi did an amazing kitchen remodel on our mid century ranch. Kyle, the project manager, always kept us in the loop on how the project was progressing. He also was very meticulous in all of his work and very thoughtful in his suggestions. We previously used Alex Freddi and Kyle for a bathroom remodel, which also exceeded our expectations. We plan to use Alex Freddi on future remodel projects. We give them our highest recommendation.

It went very well and we are very happy with the end product! Bob and Bill were always courteous, punctual, helpful, and attentive to details. They went above and beyond to make everything a success. The work was done within the estimated budget and completed on time. This is our fifth time working with Alex Freddi, and we would highly recommend him!

Gary, the Alex Freddi project lead, did such a great job i just can't sing his praise enough. Though they weren't the lowest bidder for each of the project, they were awarded them after doing the kitchen because it became obvious they were very profession and perfectionist. The coordination with other contractor and advise along the way, with the work to accomplish the house remodel to my vision, was priceless. Gary and his teams attention to detail and quality work was well worth the slightly higher cost. Not a single unfinished or piece of work that i was dissatisfied with. Lastly, working with a contractor you can trust and rely on lets one sleep at night....

Alex came by to see what the problem was and correctly diagnosed it. He came back a couple of days later with another person at the appointed time. There were here for about 4 hours, replaced a few posts and repaired the others. They were within the budget, came on time and were very upfront about what needed to be done and what was done. I am quite happy with their work. Id recommend Alex to anyone for similar work.
