Alex and Rob Felkel, Alex's assistant found that the tiling that had been done by a previous contractor was improperly sealed and there was extensive water damage from leaking where there should have been sufficient caulking and thorough grouting. They cleaned up the damage by removing and replacing the backing for the wall tiles, removing the tub, toilet, the water damaged plywood underfloor, and the mildewed drywall next to the shower as well as mildewed drywall on one area of an adjoining closet. The floor tile was no longer produced so Rob worked out a solution for an attractive transition between the bathroom floor tile and the tile in the hallway. New tile was put in for the shower walls and the floor. The tub, toilet and shower door were reinstalled, new drywall replaced damaged drywall and Rob painted the entire bathroom and repaired some flaking around the skylight window. A new exhaust fan was installed as well which should help reduce paint flaking around the skylight from steam from shower. We also used the opportunity to have a new shower head on a sliding rod installed. Rob and Khoi, the plumber, made it out to the house even though the big snow storm had virtually shut down most traffic and Rob did a great job with everything with his usual care with finish. Just before the guest bath work was done our shower doors for the master bath finally arrived and Rob installed them. The master bath was complete! My husband and I are exceedingly pleased with both our bathroom remodels. On the day he came out to inspect the nearly completed second bathroom Alex even brought us a dozen eggs his own chickens produced. They had beautiful delicate colored shells which we don't see with commercial eggs and were very good. This experience was as painless as remodeling gets -- even over the Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays with big record-breaking snowstorm thrown in.
Description of Work: Because of water damage discovered during the remodel of our master bathroom, our guest bathroom needed to have the tile on the shower walls and floor removed to find out how much damage existed.

I highly recommend Alex and his team. He was very professional and responsive to our needs and always had a positive can-do attitude. Noteworthy was his excellent attention to detail. Alex is an excellent communicator and consistently returned calls promptly. He and his team were very pleasant to work with and we are very pleased with their work.
Description of Work: Kitchen was completely gutted and linoleum floors torn out. Wood floors in living room, dining room, kitchen and small bathroom were refinished and patched. New ceiling and recessed lighting were installed. New cabinets installed. Walls in living room and dining room painted. New appliances installed.

I was impressed with Alex the first time I met him. He was friendly but business-like and went over our needs and wishes. I really did not believe we would end up with such a lovely remodeled bathroom for the estimated cost. I was pleasantly surprised. Alex is an incredibly honest person and tries very hard to do the job you want, for a reasonable cost. This was important to us as our retirement portfolio was dropping in value like a rock. Every person who came out to work on the project, there were three who I met: Alex, Rob and the plumber, was a delight to work with. They were all very pleasant but did not waste time. They worked very hard, long days to get the job done in a timely manner. They were there exactly when they said they would be and Alex or Rob called even if he would only be a half hour late. They went over every problem they ran into and with a 30 year old house, there were bound to be problems and they explained how they would fix it. They are incredibly thorough. Since leaks and the problems they cause are always a potential problem in a bathroom, they take extra care to make sure the new bathroom won't have those problems. They kept to the time schedule Alex had laid out in the beginning. The Thanksgiving holiday slowed things down a bit, but we moved back into the bathroom a couple of days ago: 2 1/2 weeks after the demolition. That new shower is wonderful! As is everything else. In the past, we have done several remodels including a kitchen remodel. This one went the smoothest of any we have had done. We had to wait a couple of months for Alex, but he was worth it hands down! He and Rob are currently repairing water damage that a previously less than careful shower remodel caused. Do plan on doing legwork yourself. This isn't the higher priced contractor who has a "design architect" to do all that for you. Actually, it wasn't bad. I have a hard time picking out a paint color using the teeny paint chips but I managed choosing tile, the shower receptor, spa unit, doors, etc. The salesman at George Morlan was a big help too and he didn't steer me wrong. I was a little nervous about choosing the lowest bid, but the other two bids, one from a company we had used before for several remodels, were ridiculously expensive. Just beyond reason. I hope that Alex made money. We certainly were able to stay within our budget because of Alex's efforts to keep the costs down. I think he does a good job with providing estimates that include the (likely) possibility that there will be surprises, such as the leak damage. We would use him again in a New York minute.
Description of Work: Bathtub, carpeting, toilet, counter, sink, bath fan removed. New plywood installed, as old plywood was damaged by water leaks. We were happy to see the carpet go, as it was a bad idea for a bathroom. The bathtub was replaced by a Kohler shower receptor, and a new Pulse shower unit was installed in the shower plus glass sliding doors (still to be delivered). A new Toto toilet (love it, very efficient), a new Toto sink and a beautiful quartz counter was installed along with a new, quiet and more powerful fan. Rob did an absolutely beautiful job on tile: floor and the entire shower enclosure. New drywall was installed on two walls by the toilet, as the old drywall had been damaged by leaks and mildew. The leaks also damaged, and apparently mostly emanated from our other bathroom shower, so Alex and Rob are redoing the shower, floor, and walls there as well. I was impressed by the careful finish work, nothing was done sloppily because of rushing through a job.

Alex and Rob did a very good job. Alex kept us informed on scheduling the work and they came as promised. Originally we had planned on replacing the vanity, sink, floor and toilet only, but not the bathtub. However, while tearing out the floor, Alex and Rob discovered dry rot in the floor around the bathtub and had to tear out the bathtub and tiles as well. That extended the 2 day job to a 7 day job. However, they kept working on our project until everything was finished, including working overtime, although they had other projects scheduled. They did not lose patience with us when we were frustrated when new problems kept popping up. They did everything thoroughly, at high standard and they didn't stop until we were completely satisfied.
Description of Work: Remodel of existing master bathroom. Replaced flooring, cabinets, sinks, faucets, bathtub/shower combo, toilet, lighting and painted walls. Added second sink and more cabinets. No change of layout or walls.

We found Alex through Angie's List, and he lived up to his reputation. We had to wait to work with him, but the reviews and the interaction we had with him at the time of the estimate convinced us that it would be worth it. It was. Alex was a complete joy to work with. He's young, and still assembling a dependable team, but his knowledge, honesty, communication skills and determination to make things right should take him a long way, if there's any justice in the world. He has high standards, and the explicit knowledge of good construction practices as well as the basic know-how to back them up. There were a couple of mistakes, but we don't expect perfection, rather, what matters is how one handles mistakes, and Alex came through like a consummate professional. What a huge relief to meet a contractor who wasn't constantly trying to put one over on homeowners and trying to hide mistakes. He was upfront, articulate and basically a rock for us to turn to in this stressful time. I believe that he truly cared about a good outcome as much as we did. In the end, we were completely satisfied with his work and would gladly work with him again anytime. We wish him the success he definitely deserves.
Description of Work: A big tree had fallen on the front of our house. We needed a two-story support beam replaced, refaced, re-siding and repainting of the whole front facade. He also connected us with a roofer and coordinated work with him.
I initially contacted Alex with plans to update one bathroom and replace a dated vanity in another bathroom. Although it seemed like a small job Alex returned my call promptly and gave me a detailed estimate. I also had some other potential projects that I discussed with Alex and he was very helpful in prioritize the work. I was very pleased with the first project (remodel powder room and laundry) and enjoyed working with Alex and his associate Rob. So I went forward with all of the other projects. In a little more than a month my home has gone from an outdated 80's relic that depressed me to a bright and beautiful showplace. The house is 36 years old but looks like new construction on the inside. Aside from the quality work,I greatly appreciated both Alex and Rob's wonderful communication skills. They kept me updated on the status of various elements of the remodeling, explained the various challenges in working on a thirty something home and patiently answered my endless questions. Some of the reasons I think Alex Freddi Construction is especially outstanding are: Both Alex and his associate Rob are absolutely meticulous about the quality of the work. The small but essential details were always attended to. The house truly looks like it's new construction. Alex has assembled an outstanding group of subcontractors that he keeps on schedule and on budget. Alex kept the job moving in spite of delays in some of the products ordered. There was constant progress in some aspect and if they were unable to work on one project they transitioned to something else. They worked around multiple subcontractors schedule to keep things moving. Alex gave me access to a number of contractor only suppliers, giving me more options for product choices and saving substantial amounts of money. Alex also worked with the suppliers to keep orders on track and to make sure what we received was actually what had been ordered. Alex understands the mess and inconvenience created during remodeling and was very helpful in mitigating both so I could stay in my home during the project even though everyone thought I was nuts to stay there. Alex was extremely helpful in making choices. I have never done any remodeling and was clueless about products, colors, lighting options etc. He actually went with me to choose hardwood flooring and carpeting plus helped pick appropriate paint colors. Alex is very flexible about working with homeowners. He said I could do as much or as little as I wanted and was very helpful with loaning tools and advice. Both Alex and Rob are very personable with outstanding communication skills. They never seemed annoyed with all my questions and concerns. I was kept up to date on all progress or potential delays in products or subs. They cleaned up every night before leaving. Alex and Rob are the kind of contractors you can trust with your home and I absolutely recommend them.

This company gave us a quote and when the project was finished the quote was the same. He came when scheduled and did the work on time. There were some finishing spots that I thought should have been included in the job and they came back and did the jobs. They found some things, wires, inside the wall that they moved and charged me a minimal charge to take care of them. The quote that they first quoted was based on nothing being in the wall.
Description of Work: This company came out and moved a wall in our bedroom. It made the closet bigger and the bathroom smaller. He also put under floor support beams in the basement.

Work Done: Tore out old bathtub and replaced with a new one. Redid the entire bathroom floors since it rotted in some areas. Replaced dry wall behind the shower since that rotted as well. Installed new cabinets. Installed new granite countertop with backsplash. Replaced drain, bathtub faucet. Installed new sink. Primed and installed new wall board. Alex Freddi Construction definitely comes highly recommended. I hope they get all the business they deserve. I LOVE my new bathroom and will use them for more projects in the future.
Description of Work: Alex Freddi Construction comes highly recommended. He was very responsive in coming out to give me a bid. I had other contractors who came out and didn t even want to do the job or flat out just never responded-and these were rated A contractors by the way. Alex was very pleasant and nice which made it easy to deal with since I had no idea about bathroom remodeling. He picked up all my big items and towed away my old items. They were very clean and professional. He gave me excellent recommendations on how to give my bathroom the most value which I appreciated very much. I didn t have to manage anything which is good since I have a busy schedule. We corresponded mostly via email and a few phone calls. I could trust him to do an excellent job, which he did. I am very pleased with the work which was done in a short amount of time as well since I wanted to use my bathroom as soon as possible.

Alex took care of most of the demo of the two (40 sq. ft. each) bathrooms. This went quick and took around three days. Rob (Alex's) helped put down new plywood and moisture barrier over the sub floor and frame out the new wall for the enlarged shower. We then had to wait for the plumber to come and install the tub and shower pan so that the tile backer board could be installed on the walls and the floors. After the inspector was able to come out and check over the roughed in plumbing work the rest of the backerboard was installed. It was then about four days before the drywallers started to come out and fill in the sections of removed drywall. This took about three days from start to finish. I was then responsible for finishing the work (tiling, install toilet & vanity, and finish plumbing). Overall, things went well. Alex made sure that I was happy with all of the work and even let me borrow some of their equipment for doing the tiling. The only delay was waiting for the permit (not their fault). The quality of the work was good and I would call them again to get a bid for future work.
Description of Work: Gutted and roughed in two bathrooms; 1st bathroom: Removed-tub, vinyl floor, vanity, toilet, tile surround, sections of drywall. Installed New- tub, moisture barriers, tile backer board around tub surround and floor, replaced drywall and textured, and roughed in plumbing; 2nd Bathroom: Removed shower pan, section of wall, tile surround, tile floor, toilet, vanity, sections of drywall. Installed new shower pan, wall, moisture barriers, tile backer board on floor and shower surround, replaced drywall and texture, roughed in plumbing and moved plumbing vent.

It was a great experience from beginning to end. Alex was always prompt and professional, and often went out of his way to help us complete the project. We wanted to do the demo and painting ourselves, and Alex was very accommodating and even lent us tools and materials. Our job was a bit tricky, as we wanted custom features like a curbless shower and a custom double vanity. But Alex and Rob worked hard and with great attention to detail to get the job done. We can't say enough good things about the result and the quality of work. What we really appreciated on top of all that was the professional and positive attitude that both Alex and Rob have. They are truly nice and friendly people, and we would hire them again in a second.
Description of Work: Alex remodeled our master bathroom from the studs. This involved replacing the plywood underlayment, installing various kinds of waterproofing material for the floor and shower, and laying down porcelain tiles for the entire area. We installed small glass tiles for the shower surround, as well as the vanity back splash. The plumbing included reworking the pipes to accommodate a new custom double vanity, installing the wall faucets and all shower fixtures. We also put in a pocket door and modified the framing for the door, as well as the recessed mirrors. The vanity was wall-hung and modified to accommodate for two vessel sinks. The electrical work included the installation of two new fixtures. We also installed a new toilet and a custom glass shower.

It went very well. Alex and Rob were easy to communicate with and cleaned up well after every visit. Alex provided a great deal of email communication and advice, helping us to make better decisions. We made some changes along the way, which Alex dealt with very well. He did a lot of "little" things that were not in the contract without any extra charge. He helped us use his wholesale flooring/tile supplier when we could not find tile or floor that we liked elsewhere. We used off the shelf vanity and top, and the top did not fit, so Alex created a solution of brackets so we could keep the Onyx top we wanted. There was no additional charge for the extra labor. He also helped us shop a couple of times, with no extra charge. We were only delayed a couple of weeks from the original contract schedule-estimate, which was fine and not a big deal. Some of the delay was due to decisions that we had yet to make. On the last day of work, Alex even helped to install a mirror which was not in the contract. All in all, with the extra communications, extra work on our changes, and the quality of the work, attention to detail, etc., this experience was a great contractor experience, and we would call on Alex again with any other projects we have.
Description of Work: Complete bathroom repair/remodel. Find and repair dry rot in the floor and in the wall under a window in the tub alcove. Remove window and replace with wall, siding. Take old tiles down to bare studs and replace wall board with hardibacker and install designer tiles. Move shower head up higher, replace tub/shower plumbing. Install linoleum floor, vanity cabinet and top, toilet. Surface the walls with new drywall texture. Replace base molding and door trim. Install bathtub fan/light and tubular skylight. Alex managed subs including the plumbers, electrician, and the drywall finisher.

Alex and Rob did a superb job. This bath had been virtually unusable because of a poorly designed 'sunken' tub. By redesigning the hand holds to get in the tub and the shower door they made the tub functional without the expense of raising the tub. Rob's tile work and painting was beautiful. They also managed to use the existing sink and cabinet. After repainting the cabinet it looked new. This could have been a $15-20,000 job but by judicious and creative use of existing elements in the bath that were in good condition they saved us a bundle without sacrificing quality. During the job Alex and Rob kept in communication with us at all times. They were prompt and accommodating to our schedule. Finally they were the cleanest contractors we have ever hired. Every night they made sure the work area was completely neat.
Description of Work: Alex did an extensive remodeling of the guest bath. It included new tile floor and bath surround, new shower door, new hardware, and painting of the entire room. We also painted the existing sink cabinet, new toilet and added a new cabinet over the toilet.

From his initial visit, Alex was prompt, thorough, and a pleasure to work with. He listened carefully to everything we wanted and worked hard to make all the details like the cabinet work, but he didn't hesitate to tell us when he thought that an idea wasn't realistic in terms of the work/cost involved. He was ready to start by the date he gave us, always kept us informed of the schedule as work progressed, and was done in about 5 weeks where others had estimated as many as 8-10. His right hand man, Rob and all of his subcontractors were also highly professional and very conscientious about cleaning up after themselves and limiting the disruption to our lives as they worked in the middle of our house. Throughout the project, the focus was on doing quality work with good materials that would stand the test of time and leave us with a room we were happy with. We won't hesitate to call the next time we have a project to be done!
Description of Work: Alex Freddi Construction completely gutted an older bathroom, repaired water damage to the sub floor, and repositioned/replaced the tub/toilet/washbasin to make the room wheelchair accessible. The new bathroom includes a tile surround for the tub and a custom made cabinet and shelf in an unused corner by the tub that replaces storage we lost by installing a pedestal sink.

Alex and Rob were very pleasant, showed up when they said they would and did a great job. I added a few tasks that I hadn't originally asked for when they got started and they willingly took them on. The bathroom & doors look great.
Description of Work: Alex & crew added support under my 1953 built house as it was poorly supported and has settled over the years. They also completed a remodel on my bathroom that had been started and was about a quarter of the way done. This included tiling, drywall & painting and installing shower doors. They also installed and stained 2 interior doors.

In our experiences with contractors, Alex Freddi has been the best by far. Alex always returned our phone calls (and email!) in a timely manner. He always showed up when he said he would or called to make arrangements so we weren't left waiting around. All contractors say they clean up after themselves - Alex and his crew actually do. We never felt we had to go sleep somewhere else because of some mess. Alex's employees are as conscientious as he is. He is very concerned that his subcontractors do good work. Again, he communicates. A previous contractor (not Alex) said he wasn't there to help us make decisions about what fixtures or material to use - that wasn't his job. But we don't remodel bathrooms all the time and we appreciated that Alex didn't mind giving us his opinions based on past experience. Though he made sure we knew the final decisions were up to us. And he assured us many times that his number one priority was that we were satisfied with the results. And we were/are!
Description of Work: Complete remodel of bathroom space including: Demolition including removal of old cement shower pan and old metal tile, toilet, sink, wall & ceiling drywall and insulation. Repair of dry rot in sub floor. Installation of new shower surround including moisture barrier, backer board, and porcelain tile. Installation of new electrical circuits to bring the bathroom up to code to include ground fault interrupt(GFI). Installation of new electrical fixtures (lighting and exhaust fan). Plumbing work to replace old piping. Installation of new shower pan, shower fixtures, toilet, wall-hung sink, medicine cabinet. Installation of laminate wainscoting around the lower 40" of the wall, which we wanted to help make for easier cleaning. Installation of window casing and molding, base molding and trim.

We were amazed how quickly and accurately Alex leveled our floor after living with uneven floors for so long. Alex was able to make the floor almost perfectly level and more than suitable for laminate flooring. Regarding the flooring, we were concerned about the quality of the laminate and how it would appear when installed. Alex and Rob did an amazing job and the seams in the laminate flooring are almost invisible. There were a couple minor complications during the project and Alex gave us several potential solutions along with his recommendation. I would not have trusted anyone else with this job and could not be happier with the result!
Description of Work: Alex and Rob repaired our subfloor and installed laminate flooring. Our floor was very uneven due to an addition and some settling in the original subfloor. One part of our floor is slab, while the addition has a crawlspace. In order level the floor, Alex installed plywood over the lower subfloor and filled in gaps with self-leveling concrete. They installed the flooring on schedule and with complete perfection.

Alex did a fantastic job in all respects. When there was a little settling and the wood shifted, he promptly corrected the problem so that I was more than happy with the final results.
Description of Work: Alex did some work to the subfloor that wasn't level and then put in a hardwood floor with new baseboard and trim. This job also required jacking up the floor and adding some joist supports in the crawl space where needed.

Alex is a very impressive contractor. He is present on the job himself, is prompt and has an excellent eye for detail. His advise was unfailingly good. On a number of occasions he located serious problems other contractors or the builders had missed and corrected them He is also reasonable this is extremely important as we are retired. We have had some nightmare experiences with other contractors Alex is a definite exception. He is a true craftsman, easy to work with and an excellent problem solver. We should also mention that Rob, his assistant is also very knowledgeable and a wonderful painter. I highly recommend Alex as a contractor and would use him again.
Description of Work: Alex remodeled our dining room and repaired siding on the outside of our home. The remodeling consisted if extending the dining room out 3' with an apron extending into the living room, placing new moldings around the widow and over the doors and installing a new sliding door. The siding work consisted of replacing cedar siding in the front of the house and painting the whole front of our home.

Timely, professional and outstanding in every respect. Alex came out to start the job one day after he sent the bid to me. He is a consummate professional and excels at communicating effectively. The work, itself, is better than I expected and his rates are very reasonable. In fact, I gave him a $50 tip; that is how happy I was with his efforts.
Description of Work: I had Alex rough finish out a basement storage space, including the installation of an exterior door. The size of the space finished was 8 X 9 feet.

Alex did a wonderful job. He took his time, as I had asked, to allow for settling after jacking before installing the missing support beams. While working in the crawlspace, he noticed and informed me that the center joist of the house was completely unsupported :-( and he proceeded to put beams at regular intervals to support this joist. In addition, since the deck was only attached to the siding (vs. structure of the house), he rebolted the deck to studs in the house.
Description of Work: Alex jacked up the end of the house, added missing support beams and properly attached the deck and front porch to the house.
