Alex called me right after I had called for a quote on the kitchen remodel. He came over within a day, sent me 2 different quotes. Once I made a decision, we scheduled a date for work to commence. The first day, Alex showed up promptly with the electrician and another member of his team. They went over what was to be done, and work was started. Everything worked smoothly and in order, with perfect scheduling. If I had any concerns, Alex handled them or would have someone at the house to take care of it. Alex stayed in touch with me to keep current on progress. He made periodic visits to see how the work was going and that everything was to my satisfaction. He reiterated that my satisfaction was his priority, and I knew that he cared about the work performed. Great job on sheet rocking the ceiling and matching the rest of the ceiling. Alex and everyone involved were very courteous, extremely responsive and quick to answer questions or resolve any problems. The remodel went smoothly with very good coordination. It was a lucky day when I found Alex Freddi Construction. I recommend Alex Freddi Construction to anyone seeking a good quality, thoughtful, careful, conscientious team.
Description of Work: Kitchen remodel - we did the tear out, including removing the drop down ceiling. Alex's crew installed electrical for can lights, microwave, hood, undercounter lights. New sheet rock and mudding on ceiling. Gas line run to kitchen and installed new dual fuel oven; appliances moved back in place, with water line hook up for fridge. Wood floor repair where needed. Reinstalled faucet, garbage disposal. (Another company installed the cabinets and counter tops.) Obtained permits and inspections.

This project was the best experience we've ever had with a contractor and subcontractor. All pre-project inquiries were answered promptly, the estimate and explanation of the work were clear. Alex always arrived on time and kept us informed as to the status of the work. When site problems were discovered, he rearranged his schedule to get the job completed as quickly as possible so we would not be inconvenienced any longer than necessary. Alex inspected all work done by the subcontracter to verify the very meticulous workmanship. We have had the same flooring installed in other rooms by other contractors, and the workmanship, particularly the transitions at doorways and to existing floors, were far superior to the previous installation. Alex does a great job and with unfailing good humor, even when problems arise. We are happy to give him the highest possible recommendation.
Description of Work: Bedroom: Removed existing carpet and pad, discovered wet conditions from leaking sliding glass door and improperly installed flashing (by original builder), removed and replaced affected subfloor, removed sliding glass door and frame, removed several deck and siding boards, made repairs to correct the condition, delivered and installed new door, new door trim, floating hardwood floor and all new baseboards, cleaned area and removed all debris. Office: Removed existing carpet and pad, delivered and installed floating hardwood floor and all new baseboards, cleaned area and removed all debris.

Alex and his carpenters and various sub contractors were all so nice and so professional. They were very clean and I could see that they took pride in the quality of their work. Alex was there every single day -- and was readibly available by phone whenever I needed him including weekends, early sunday mornings -- whatever and whenever. Every question or any tiny concern was dealt with promptly and much to my satisfaction. It was a ton of work and was accomplished in very quick and efficient manner. I couldnt be more pleased!!!
Description of Work: Alex and his crew basically remodeled my entire house -- I had contracted with Alex to remodel the kitchen as well as refinish my hardwood floors in the upstairs of my split level ranch house. Just before the project was to begin, my entire basement level flooded ruining all the flooring, walls, carpet, etc. Fortunately, Alex was willing to take on rebuilding this level as well from scratch. All of the basement had to be gutted, weatherized, and then rebuilt (new framing, new walls, new ceiling, as well as all the electrical was redone using a contractor Alex helped me find (see Halcyone Electrical). In addition to this basic rebuilding, Alex also laid a beautiful new tile floor on the basement level and remodeled my fireplace. Alex referred me to Prodesign Solutions who gave me free consultation on the selection of the tile and the work just turned out beautifully! I now have a completely new basement level, all new floors, just gorgeous. Also all the trim was replaced, the basement painted a beautiful light blue and all the doors were painted to look brand new and custom made. In the kitchen, Alex and his carpenters put in all new cabinets. Though the cabinets are from Ikea, you wouldn't know it because the craftsmanship of the carpenters was so stellar, it came out looking like custom work. The countertops and tile backsplash are gorgeous!! the guys did custom tailoring so that all of the appliances look truly built in and now my storage space is literally doubled. The floors in the house upstairs were redone and the work is fabulous -- looks all brand new and beautiful. Alex and his guys basically rebuilt my house! it looks terrific and I couldn't have been more pleased with the quality!

I used the service of Alex Freddi because the other company said that they will not be able to come unless we didn't mind to have the work done from them in April. They called in the beginning of January and they said they were totally booked and too busy. They were on top of the list in Angie's list so that's why I had left them a message. They said they can start the work only from January and that was the response I got from them, and I said no, I will certainly have it done before April. They said they couldn't work for me so that was the first and last time I spoke with them. So that is when I got Alex Freddi on the list. He was very responsive and very punctual. He responded to my request and had him give an estimate. He came right over and he looked at the work and said he would give me everything through the e-mail. He was very thorough. He only took a few minutes to look at our place and give me the estimate. He gave me a detailed explanation of what work he is going to do and he was very good. I had asked somebody else and they were not so thorough, so I decided to go with Alex Freddi. His people had to work around the tiles, which was laid down by the tile company because the tile were cut too short and the floor was visible. They were three areas which were like that. They had to make the holes larger, so that the plumbing people could install the fixtures. They found it funny. I a not a professional, but I can tell by looking at it that there was too much of space left out, were the tile people could have used another piece of tile. Alex Freddi's people had to use another style of tile because the space on the floor was too much.
Description of Work: I used Alex Freddi the general contractor. I got him through Angie's list. His people are working at my place right now. They are renovating two of our bathrooms, replacing a unit, replacing a shower and a bath tub. They are removing the carpet in the bathroom. They replaced the cabinets and the countertops of two other rooms. Alex referred me to a store that provides fixtures, and also referred me to the granite people. The countertops and the glass door for the shower were through him. The tiles were from a different company and we found them while driving by.

We were very pleased with everything. We had been dreading the remodeling process, but it all went smoothly in about five weeks. Alex's crew, Rob and Kyle, were wonderful and very diligent about following through on their work. We looked forward to seeing them every day, which says a lot for their personalities and work ethic! Above all, quality and doing things the correct way was important to Alex and his crew. They also cleaned up their work neatly every day. Alex was very easy to work with and offered great suggestions along the way. We will need a bathroom remodel in the future, and I'll be calling Alex for that job! I would recommend Alex and his crew to anyone who wants a first rate job done on a remodel.
Description of Work: We needed a remodel of our kitchen, in addition to new wood flooring in our family room and entry hall. Alex's crew demolished our kitchen cabinets and removed old appliances, removed a soffet from the ceiling, rerouted some plumbing, prepared electrical outlets for new lighting, installed tile backsplash, and prepared the floor for new wood flooring. Included in the work was wood flooring installation done by a sub contractor, and plumbing and installation for a faucet and dishwasher completed by a plumber. ( The new cabinet installation was not included in the price, because we had the cabinets installed by North Pacific Supply Company, where we purchased them.) In addition to the kitchen remodel, we decided to have four new doors installed, a dining room light installed, a large lighting fixture installed in the entry hall, new locks installed, and new base moldings installed in the dining area, kitchen, family room and hallway.

Alex is a class act and very responsive. We contacted him to give us a bid on a master bath remodel. After his initial bid we made some changes to the plan and Alex came back out to look at the plan and adjust his bid. His price for the job was right in line or less than almost all of the other bids we received and he was extremely flexible about let us perform certain parts of the job. He also replied to all of my many email questions usually within a few hours, sometimes late at night and on weekends. We wanted to hire Alex for the job. However, my father-in-law, who's an electrician and is doing our electrical, pretty much told us without using the words that we need to hire his guy or we'd have to find our own electrician. We like the other contractor as well and believe he'll do a good job. Since we felt that both would be good choices and it was already a close call and my father-in-law is really very generous and has helped us so much we didn't want to create any more drama and chose the other contractor for this job, even though in our hearts we'd like to work with Alex. We'll probably use him on the next job, when there isn't so much electrical work. By all means, you'd be doing yourself a dis-service if you don't contact Alex to look at your next project.

Amazing. Alex is patient, calm, and a terrific communicator. He's also generous and friendly and incredibly helpful. We interviewed two other contractors as well, and his bid was the best--he was also the only one who didn't talk down to us or seem annoyed that our job was so small (and our house so messy.) He not only helped us create a renovation plan that we could afford, and gave us guidance on how to tile the shower (first time for us) but lent us his tools and wet saw for a couple of months so we didn't have to rent. Who does that??? He and his team were amazing. I'm pretty sure he fit us in around his other (larger, higher-paying) jobs because we're new homeowners and he wanted to help us out. Again...who does that? I can't recommend Alex highly enough. The quality of the work was terrific, the experience of working with him--communication, explanations, checking in--was excellent, and he did everything possible to keep our costs low. Thanks, Alex!!!
Description of Work: Alex and his team renovated our small full bath (with shower.) They removed a leaking kit shower, removed old lino from the floor, and demo'd it generally. Then they refurbished the floor, laid Marmoleum and baseboard, mudded in a new shower stall, installed a heating duct from our forced-air heating, installed a vanity, skim-coated all walls, and plumbed a new sink (same location as old one.) Installed shower trim and head. Framed and built a wall cubby for storage. We did our own shower tiling, painting, and a small part of the demo.

Amazing! Thanks to Alex and his crew Kyle and Rob, the remodel was completed on time and on budget. Alex was always readily available by phone and email, and guided us through what could have been a very stressful situation with calm, patience, knowledge, humor, and flexibility. Much to our joy and relief, the job was completed in the 3 week estimated time frame. We had never considered Ikea cabinets until Alex mentioned them. Not only are they good quality and provide a contemporary look, but the savings were incredible over the cost of off-the-shelf wood cabinets. We ended up buying our countertops, refrigerator, and dishwasher at Ikea as well, and the savings allowed us to purchase upgraded floor tile and backsplash. Thanks Alex and crew!

We had not done a major remodeling job on the house since moving in 15 years ago. So were a bit concerned about how to plan the design, buy the supplies (tile and paint), and work with the contractors. Before starting, we heard so many horror stories about remodeling jobs. Next time we hear another, we’ll listen patiently, nod in sympathy, and recommend they call Alex Freddi for any future projects. Alex guided us through the whole process of planning the remodel, and selecting and purchasing the materials. He was always available for questions and was especially prompt in answering our email, sometimes within minutes. He was calm, patient, and generous in sharing his expertise and advice. Alex's crew was professional, highly skilled, and very pleasant to work with. The main contractors, the dynamic brother team of Scott and Nick, were very patient and included us on even the little decisions, such as position of the shower cubbies and towel bars, to make sure we were happy with the results. They also went out of their way to fix a few things along the way that were not included in the original estimate. We were just as satisfied with the work of the crew that did the tiling, drywall, and shower door installation. All in all, we're very happy with the remodeling job and are enjoying the new shower. We're grateful to Alex and are already planning to work with him again on the next home project.
Description of Work: Remodeled master bathroom including new shower, new drywall and paint, and towel bars; new floor tile for 3 bathrooms and a laundry room; paint and a new door for downstairs bathroom; ceiling repair and paint for downstairs living room; and new exhaust fans for two bathrooms.

I have an old Portland home with a large porch with detailed trimwork. The porch had a rotting and badly out-of-square corner porch post. It was a significant structural fault and I was concerned about the safety of the porch. I am a "handy" homeowner, but this project was well beyond my skill to take care of independently. Alex and his crew deconstructed and removed the old post and attached railings. They repaired the post and re-installed the trimwork. They had everything cleaned up in one day.The project was handled for less time and less money than originally bid.

Alex and his crew put in an AWESOME new trex two level, hot-tub-containing deck for us. Alex worked with us from the design stage through completion. He helped us choose and purchase materials (additional $5500) at Home Depot, his crew built the deck frame but to save $$ they were happy to have us lay and screw in all the boards. Then they came back and did the stairs, railings and fascia so that it looks professional. We love our new outdoor living space. We found Alex several years ago on Angie's list and have used him for a basement remodel, a kitchen remodel at our rental, and now our deck. We've always been pleased with his quality of work, the professionalism of his crew and his responsiveness to our needs/ desires as well as how he works with us to limit cost in various ways.

Overall, Alex and his team did a great job. Alex saved us a lot of money with his suggestion to use Ikea cabinets, and was highly professional in every aspect of the work. When there were decisions to make or (minor) problems to solve, he brought them to our attention, made excellent recommendations and followed through, even when it involved extra work for him. He charged us fairly for change orders/addons and even through in the small stuff for free. Most amazing of all, he started and finished the job right on schedule. His employees, Rob and Kyle, were a pleasure to deal with day-to-day on the job. They worked hard, at a high level of quality, and cleaned up at the end of the day. All in all, my wife and I highly recommend Alex Freddi to anyone considering a remodeling project of any sort.

It went very, very well. Alex Freddi Construction employs cordial and flexible contractors, who do excellent work in a reasonable amount of time. They keep construction noise to reasonable times of day and keep the mess to a minimum, cleaning up up at the end of every day's work. I would describe the company as high end contractors working at fair prices. Quality and speed were excellent; I feel I got good value for my money.
Description of Work: The company did a complete bathroom installation; the finished product is beautiful (for example the tile work on the floor and shower surround) This was a complex job; significant carpentry was performed before any finish work could be done. The contractors did an excellent job of coordinating with other professionals (e.g. plumbers) to keep the job moving forward. The entire job took approximately six weeks.

This experience was 100% positive. Alex was extremely responsive throughout the process and he and his crew were consistently reliable, pleasant and professional. New to Portland, we recently purchased a home with uncompleted renovations. The previous owner left a master bathroom that was unfinished, (down to the studs) with a mish-mash of previously purchased materials and fixtures left in a pile on the floor. Alex patiently worked through the boxes of parts with me and brought his sub-contractor plumber in to assess what we had, and what we would need in order to proceed. We were able to use much of what was left for us and saved quite a bit of money in the process. The crew was extremely conscientious and meticulous. The tile work, especially, was managed with a great eye to detail. As they were finishing up the work, I took advantage of having a tile mastermind (Rob) in my house and showed him and Alex a perplexing cold-air return hole that was left in a wall in our dining room and they were able and willing to provide a solution and fix at no additional cost. Our bathroom is absolutely beautiful. I would not hesitate to contact Alex Freddi again--I can?t imagine a more positive experience.
Description of Work: Alex Freddi Construction recently performed a high quality a master bath remodel; reframing a tub surround, installing fixtures and tile, venting, completing roughed-in plumbing and electrical, painting and finish work. They also repaired some tile work around an air-return vent in our dining area.

It went very well. This is the second time I used Alex's company. The original work order was just for the new deck. However, at the same time as the deck was being constructed, we started ripping out an old sink in the downstairs rec room in preparation to build a small studio-style kitchen. When we got the sink out of the corner, there was wetness and mold everywhere. We had Alex look at it, and he very quickly demolished what was required to diagnose the extent of the damage from a cracked drain pipe. There was major damage requiring that we basically rebuild a downstairs BR/Laundry room from the ground up. Amazingly, Alex committed to that project, and the deck project, as well as to help us install the kitchen in the downstairs rec room (which had an adjoining, damaged wall with the BR). I know that he had plenty of customers lined up, and he could have very reasonably delayed us, so I was more than a little grateful for the urgency with which he attacked this unforeseen project. Other than that, working with Alex and his crew is always very easy. They are flexible and very knowledgeable about options and the pros and cons of all the choices you have to make during such projects. It is also worth mentioning how flexible Alex can be regarding payment terms. It is normal to arrange 1/2 up front and 1/2 after substantial completion, however, Alex can be flexible depending on circumstances. All in all, I would again use Alex Freddi Construction for subsequent projects, and at this point, I may not even bother to get competing bids! You may be able to find a company a tiny bit cheaper at bid time, however, Alex will always beat the competition with quality and honesty about what the true cost of the work and materials will be. I prefer to use the higher quality materials that Alex recommends instead of the cheaper, less reliable materials that the big companies will use. And Alex's work is always high quality. Anyway - highly recommended.
Description of Work: Demolish a rotten deck and build a new, bigger deck (second floor, back yard deck). Repair major water damage in a downstairs BR/Laundry room, and adjoining rec room. Remodel the BR from the ground up, half of it from studs. Replace broken plumbing. Upgrade and add electric capabilities for the BR and rec room. Tile the floor, baseboard, and shower. Add a fan. Install toilet, assemble and install vanity, sink, tile back splash, light fixture. Added electrical capabilities in the rec room to install a kitchen. Installed an above-stove microwave and cabinetry. Assembled and installed new double sink, cabinet, and plumbing. Fixed stone floor with cement filler.

After getting two quotes from the big name bathtub remodelers, I wanted to see how much a contractor would charge. Bottom line is we paid a little less and got a more for our money. Alex Freddie and his crew were excellent. Alex made suggestions that were helpful and not designed to add cost to the project. During the installation his tiler, Rob, suggested cutting some tiles smaller to make it look better. He was right. When my wife requested a more elaborate cut-out in the middle of the tiling, they did it. Even better there was no extra charge on the final bill. All workers (he did sub out the plumbing and texture spraying of walls) were friendly and on time every day. The quality of their work was excellent. We love our new shower.
Description of Work: My wife and I had the old bathtub removed and a floor to ceiling tile shower installed. In addition a pocket door leading into the master bath was installed and replaced the regular door. Per our agreement, I supplied all material except for some basic plumbing and tiling thinset.

Professional from start to finish. The experience was about as good as it could be--absolutely none of the common nightmares associated with carpenters and remodeling. The whole project was completed to perfection in under 4 weeks! The crew was always punctual, absolutely reliable. Crew chief and whole crew were outstanding workers, friendly and courteous. We have a young dog that's aggressive with strangers and the crew and even the sub-contractors--but especially the crew who were there most of the time--were extremely good natured and understanding about the dog. Also, we wanted to hold down costs by doing all the leg work in finding and procuring our tile, cabinet, mirror, toilet, sky light, and fixtures. Alex worked with us, patiently, and made suggestions as to the best places to buy within our budget. After it was completed and we'd signed off on everything we discovered the hand-shower wasn't working properly. A fairly major adjustment needed to be made requiring breaking into the wall of the adjacent bedroom. We called Alex and the whole thing was completed in two days with no additional charge. About cost: after we saw all that was involved in a total remodel, and how hard everyone worked, we feel the cost was extremely fair. Needless to say, if we have future remodeling needs we won't hesitate to hire Alex Freddi Construction.
Description of Work: Completely remodeled old bathroom, removing everything, and stripping floors down to the sub-floor and walls back to the studs. Broke into a coat closet and incorporated that space into the new bathroom. Built a walk-in shower from scratch, tiled it, put down a marmoleum floor, a new toilet (had to move the plumbing), a cabinet and sink, light fixtures, built-in shelves, a pocket door, and a skylight, etc. Painted the walls and cleaned up.

From the start Alex was patient, friendly, flexible and took the time to explain all of our options. The work was competent, timely and thorough. He is open to allowing the homeowner to take on certain portions of the work to reduce costs and is extremely accommodating about schedules, constraints, cost concerns, etc. Every single worker and sub that he brings on site is professional, friendly and trustworthy. Our tenants are a bit nervous about strangers in the house (and with their animals) and absolutely fell in love with everyone involved. This is the second project we have done with Alex Freddi construction and we will be calling him first for any future work. Can't recommend him and his team highly enough.
Description of Work: Alex helped design and install a new Ikea kitchen in our rental property. He dealt with all permitting, sub-contractors, debris removal and cleanup, etc.

MY SAVIOR. I had hired someone else (big mistake) and he rescued me and did the job correctly. Even prior to working in my home he was helping me via e-mail. I found Mr. Freddi to be professional, friendly, approachable, responsible and a great hand-holder when it came to dealing with the bad workers. His crew worked quickly, efficiently, neatly and were very detail-oriented. Start with Alex Freddi -- and you won't have to go without a shower for almost two months and get the job done correctly the first time -- saving lots of money.
Description of Work: After another company botched the tile surround for my bath/shower and ruined the walls and paint, I called Alex to actually do the tile repair, but the original company forced me to go with them. Finally, after talking via e-mail, I hired Alex & his crew mudded and repaired the walls & painted.

He was wonderful. We had no problems. He came out and did the work a month ago. My husband paid him so I don't have the information, but it was less than what we thought it was going to be.
Description of Work: Alex Freddi Construction took care of some tile work that had to be done.

My husband and I decided to do most of the kitchen remodel on our own because he had so many bad experiences with contractors but we had to call someone to do the tiling, duct work, trim, and basically do the finishing touches on our kitchen. Alex Freddi completely changed our view of contractors and we are going to hire him to do a bathroom remodel. The thing that makes Alex Freddi is an exceptional contractor is that he is an excellent communicator, his work is high quality, his staff is skilled and professional, and he is very trustworthy. Alex was the first contractor to effectively communicate with us. He called and emailed us frequently, he gave us exact dates that he would work, and he always asked how things went after his staff left our house. His staff was extremely punctual, professional, and they too were excellent communicators. The other wonderful thing about him is the quality of his work. Our kitchen is absolutely beautiful and this is due to a skilled staff and high quality materials. Alex is also very honest, trustworthy, and he is a very kind and professional person. When he finished the job, he asked us how we liked the work and encouraged us to call him if anything goes wrong. I have nothing but good things to say about Alex and I can't wait to write another comment after the bathroom is done.
