I called on 4/28 because I had lost 2 of my 5 chickens in 24 hours. On 4/29, Melissa comes out and sets a single trap. That day I asked her how often would she come out to check the trap and she said 2-3x a week, but if you feel neglected please feel free to call. The first week, she didn't come out at all. Then my small dog got in the trap so I let her out and called to have Melissa come back out to re-bait and set the trap again. I went 36 hours with a non-functioning trap. She came out and reset. (I made it very clear to Melissa please don't knock on my door as it gets my dogs very agitated. Please text me you are on your way and I will make sure the dogs are not in the yard and you can have free access. Yet, she knocked on my door on 2 different occasions.) I also made it clear with the office to please make sure Melissa understands I do not want her knocking on my door. The communication from Melissa was not impressive. I called and left a message complaining that I had lost another chicken and told the person I spoke with at the office to come pick up the trap because I don't have time to manage this that is why I hired a company. ie Melissa not coming out as promised, lack of communication etc. The women apologized and said that she will speak with Melissa about my complaints that have her get in touch. She also offered to extend my contract for 2 weeks at no charge. I gave in and said I was expecting Melissa to come out and do a better job tending to this trap ie checking it, leaving bait etc. The office person assured me that I'd be hearing from someone that day. Another 36 hours and no contact or what I could tell no change in the trap status (open, but no bait) I called again and said why haven't I heard from anyone? Again the office person said "what? Melissa didn't call you?" Of course I said no. Her response "well, she's been really sick, but I know she stopped by there. You were her only stop of the day" I said fine and things settled down. I then lost another chicken. So, I called again to have Melissa come out and discuss what options we had, perhaps move the trap, different bait etc. She was very prompt in coming out that day. It was a Monday. She stated she'd be back on Wed of the same week to check the trap and bring out a larger one. Once again she was MIA. On the following Sunday (Memorial Day weekend) My last 2 birds were killed. I called and left a very p***** off message knowing I wouldn't hear back till Tuesday. That day 5/26 I receive a text message from Melissa "I cannot begin to tell you how sorry I am about the chickens and my failure to follow through on my word. It is not like me to drop the ball like that on a customer and I am truly sorry. I'm not sure there is anything I can do at the point to make it up to you, but if there is, please let me know. I'm happy to extend the trapping service, bring a larger trap as promised and try everything in my power to capture the culprit. I would love an opportunity to make it right as the best I can. Please let me know if there is anything I can do." My response: was simply I want a refund on the ($185) Service fee. Melissa: "I completely understand. The office will handle the refund" I called that day to confirm that a refund was in the works. The guy who answered said "yes, Lisa will be handling that this week." Now Friday 5/29: I called and asked to speak with Lisa. Once Lisa was on the phone I asked her about my refund, because it hadn't shown up in my acct. I paid with a credit card. She stated that she just received the check and was going to mail me a check. I said "okay, a check would be fine." Lisa then said to me, " well, the only issue now is that I don't have any stamps." Very annoyed I said "So, I should have it next week." Lisa "Yes" Fast forward to 6/3 Still no check in the mail. I call and leave yet another message asking for a call back because I haven't received my refund. On Thursday I get a call back saying the check was mailed on Monday and to please call them if it doesn't show up that day or Friday. Upon getting my mail Thursday evening the check was there and postmarked for Tuesday 6/2, not Monday 6/1 as stated. I took the check to the issuing bank and cashed it versus depositing it into my account.
Description of Work: What didn't the provider do would be a better question. It was a constant battle to get Melissa to come out and maintain the single trap she brought out.

We had been hearing some very loud crashing noises coming from our vents so we called Affordable Wildlife Response to come out not knowing what we had but fearing something large near our babies room. At this point I do not remember exactly how the phone call went to set up the appointment. But when they arrived and after talking with us siad that it just sounded like a mouse, possibly a rat. So they recommended setting some mouse traps out, about nine I think. So for that forty five minutes we were told that it was a $185 non refundable charge. This to us is crazy. We recently had a pipe break and our electrician showed up and fixed it in about an hour and a half and only charged us $75. They followed up a few days later with a few more mouse traps but neither my wife and I were very happy with the service and we certainly didn't feel like what was done was worth $185, which, once they get to your house I guess your committed to.

The $185 fee up front was all I paid. If there had been other critters to take away, there would have been an additional cost per animal. The fee covered resetting the trap for up to 30 days. I was a little disappointed, yet somewhat relieved, that the only animal captured was a cat. The technician explained the whole process to me, and answered all my questions. The only downside, and a fairly minor one, is that there was no option for an initial visit and consultation at a lower rate. A trip out would have cost the same $185, so I was pretty much committed when I made the call.
Description of Work: They inspected the foundation vents through which the animal was accessing my crawlspace, and found a gray tuft of fur that appeared to be raccoon. A trap was set, which captured a tabby from the neighborhood. I was unable to free the cat, so they came back out and released him, then reset the trap closer to the vent opening. After a further two weeks of no activity, the trap was picked up and they set screens in two vent openings to keep animals out.

They didn't show up the first time and they didn't responded quickly by phone. The worker was unprofessional and she was rude. She proceeded to leave mouse traps even though there were no signs of them. I asked them to also fill in the spaces that animals could get in and she used some foam sealant and I asked her to trim the excees, but she said she would return. She never responed to my calls.

Melissa came over the same evening I called after I found a rat in our basement. She went through the entire basement checking for possible entryways and looking for evidence of the number of rats that were possibly there (one versus many). She concluded that the rat had probably only recently come in and there was probably only one. She sealed off some possible entryways. Traps were set in the places it seemed to be staying, by the next morning we had the rat caught in a live trap, and Melissa came over and hauled it away. The traps were left in place for about three more days, but we had no further evidence of rats.
Description of Work: Trap and removed a rat, checked for a sealed possible entry ways into the house. Reviewed area to give an idea of the "size" of infestation - luckily it was only one rat!

It went great. They trapped two squirrels and we never had any other problems, then blocked up the hole. They were able to accommodate a vacation schedule and removed the traps while we were away since it was our responsibility to inform them when an animal was caught. They were always prompt and professional. The price was much more reasonable than other people who we asked for quotes, and they actually returned our calls in contrast to three other places we asked to quote the job.

After a terrible experience with a big pest control company, we called Affordable Wildlife Control to get rid of the rats in our house. We had a great experience with them. The company is just 2 people. When you call, you talk with one of these 2 people directly. They were very responsive by phone and very knowledgeable and effective in person. They charged us one very reasonable fee and visited until the problem was solved. I just felt really comfortable with them-- they are really down-to-earth and know what they are doing.

Melissa came out the day after we contacted her and set up humane traps to catch squirrels that had set up housekeeping in our attic and walls. Within a couple of days the offending squirrels were caught and taken away. (Sorry guys) She then repaired/blocked the holes in our roof under the eves where the squirrrels had been gaining access. She was professional and thorough. I will definately call on her again if we need wildlife or pest control help. We love the squirrels and wildlife that visit our yard, but not inside our home....sorry little guys.....there ARE limits.

Basically, the job was performed. They responded to calls of captured squirrels fairly reasonably: one squirrel died due to a fairly significant delay in responding. Their communications could be improved, especially with respect to billing and work performed. I asked a couple times (via voice mail as they are hard to reach in person) about closing up the entry ways, which I was told was slated to be performed, but was not provided an answer whether, in fact, it was.

Once the traps were set, I would check each morning. On the days I had a catch, I would call, and in a couple of hours Melissa or Patrick would come to remove the animal and reset the trap. If several days passed without my calling, someone would come out to re-bait the trap and at times adjust location. All went well, and I now have a nicer yard.
Description of Work: I had what appeared to be a raccoon problem. Melissa set out two live traps in the area the raccoon(s) were visiting. Several days later when we observed another area of the yard was being visited, a third trap was set. Two raccoons were caught in a few days and removed. The traps were left in place for a month.

We went on vacation for a couple weeks and a family of raccoons started using our yard as a latrine, leaving a surprising and disgusting amount of droppings every night. AWR set traps and caught two of them--the others eventually moved on. Phone communication was a little spotty (thus the B in responsiveness), but they did come out to the house fairly quickly each time after I called about the traps needing to be freshened or replaced--plus of course coming out the same day when a raccoon had been caught. They were even at our place on weekends as necessary. Overall, it was a good experience.

We found them on Google and they were very responsive. Every time they had an animal caught I called them and they came over, usually within an hour or two. It really bothered me to have to trap and kill the beavers; I tried very hard with the state to get them relocated. So when I got a trapper it meant a lot to me that the woman who did the trapping actually ate the animals herself; I was very glad that they were not being wasted. The fact that they made use of both the fur and the meat of the animal meant a lot to me. They were very friendly and their response was very fast when an animal was caught. I ended up paying way less for the 3 animals than most places were going to charge me for just one so I was really pleased with the price.

I had the unfortunate experience of finding a dead cat in my outdoor feral cat enclosure, which was a little traumatic and unsettling. I didn't know what to do and remembered a friend telling me about Melissa and how she helped them humanely handle a sick raccoon they found in their yard. I am so appreciative for Melissa for doing what some of us cannot. She answered the phone when I first called, pulled over to write down the information and was here at my house the next morning. She took the extra step of sanitizing the enclosure and removed the affected bedding for me. As soon as she was done, she called to let me know the job had been completed and answered by question about whether disease was an issue to be concerned about. She should be proud of being running such a professional service, I would highly recommend her to others.

Effective, courteous and efficient. I will definitely use them again although I sure hope I don't need to.
Description of Work: We suffered for a few days thinking we had a problem in a sewer drain that was causing a terrible smell in a bathroom. Once iwe determined that plumping was not the problem, I used Angie's List to find AWR. Melissa was out immediately; took a look around the house; crawled into crawl space and popped out 5 minutes later with a dead rat and contaminated ground/insulation in a plastic bag. Now I know what "I smell a rat" means.

The man came out and set up traps for the squirrels but the traps didn't work. The squirrels came back through a different entrance. The woman who owns the company came and figured out where the squirrels were getting in and devised a trap to catch them. The trap worked and the squirrels were caught. The price seems reasonable for the work.

Had some other work done and discovered that we had raccoons living under our house. Called out affordable wildlife response, they promptly identified the potential entry point and setup traps. We spent a month trying to catch the critters, but came to the conclusion that had moved on. They also provide cleanup and repair of potential entry points. We did that work with them as well, in 2 hours they had crawled under my house, cleaned up the mess and sealed up the access hole. All is good again under our house. I do caution that they are a small group (only 3 people I believe) so responses are not always as fast as it is with a big company, but they were out to my house almost every day checking traps and tracking the animals. Cleanup was scheduled for an estimate in a couple days and we did the actual work a week later. So be patient and you will be very happy with the service and price.
