Horrible paying for alarm service I never actually had.
Description of Work: I had an ADT alarm system installed in my house in 2006. I assumed it was working and I paid my monthly fee each month. In June 2009, I set the alarm, and then a friend with a key opened the door setting off the alarm. I never received a call on the event, and the police never contacted me. I called ADT and they said they never received the event, and they had wrong phone numbers for me. They thought the problem was with Comcast, though I had never been told when I called to give them my new comcast number that it should be a problem. Comcast came out, and said everything was ok. ADT said everything was ok and had my new contact numbers. Tonight, 6 months later, a relative accidentally set off the alarm, but again I was never called and 45 minutes later the police had never arrived. Also my relative said the alarm rang for 5 minutes or less then stopped. I called ADT, as this was the 2nd event, and again my system was not working. What if it had been an actual break-in? ADT first said they did not have my correct contact phone numbers, AGAIN. I spoke to a manager and told him I had provided my new numbers 6 months ago, but AGAIN they never made it into the system. He said the person I last spoke to was incorrect, I never gave them the numbers!!! what???? He said he would give me a credit for one month of service. I was outraged. i had paid for nearly 4 years, and my alarm had actually never been working. I also asked why the police had never arrived, 45 minutes after the event tonight. He said the person at ADT who received the event, called a security co, (not the police), in a suburb across the county as she thought I lived in another town who won't allow the police to be called for alarms. it took the security co 20 minutes to call her back, and then they told her they don't service my town. So then 25 minutes after the alarm event, she notified the police. I never was called, because they did not have my correct phone numbers, since they never entered them in their system, even though I called more than once. The manager then tried to tell me I never called, and said he could bring up the phone call i had with the operator in June. I said bring it up. He did, and there I was giving my numbers as I said. To this he finally capitualted, and apologized. He offered me a small credit. But still, I do not have confidence that they will act correctly if an alarm event occurs. Or if they do have my correct numbers, STILL. I am looking for another company. I paid $1728. for alarm service that I never really had..... Oh, and when the manager first said I never gave them my numbers in the phone call, and I insisted I did, he said I was insulting him and took back the credit. Then after listening to the phone call where he heard me give them, he gave it back. Still....this is professionalism?
