Ability Plus Roofing

I've been working with Carrie w/ Ability Plus Roofing for the last 7 years now. We refer all of our clientele to them for roofing needs. We have also had the opportunity to experience their services personally as well. Carrie has always been super responsive and caring to our and all of our clients' needs. They've always been soo helpful, I do not say that lightly. This company's attention to detail and high level of customer service is superb. I feel their services far exceed the value they offer. If you are looking for a top notch roofer, look no further. If we could rate them 10 stars we would.

Beware of Ability Roofing for repairs! We contacted Ability Plus Roofing for an estimate on replacing our failed ridge caps iOctober 2023. On their recommendation, we agreed to have them do a repair instead of a full replacement. Their company assured us that this was not an unusual repair for roof caps, and that they performed this work regularly. A full contract of the work to be completed was agreed on to include fully seal hip and ridge shingles/ridges and seal all exposed nails. After their employee came on Oct 31, 2023, and did the job, we were supposed to receive pictures of the work completed. The employee didn’t let us know he was finished with the job, he just left at some point in the day. No pictures were provided despite multiple requests on our part. We received different answers as to why no pictures had been sent. The file was too big, the email address wouldn’t allow the files to be received. An additional email address was provided, but still no pictures. However, we did get notification that our payment was past due despite not receiving an invoice. We requested a copy of the invoice, and paid immediately by check placing it in the mail that business day. When they had not received the check in 5 days, we received a call asking why they had not received payment? As the check was mailed, I couldn’t explain this but did again ask for the pictures of the completed work. Ability received payment within the next day or so and we let it go, never receiving the requested pictures. During the wind storm on March 9, 2024, a skylight blew off our roof. We contacted a roofer who came the same day as water poured through the missing skylight. To our surprise, the roofer inspecting the damage to the skylight reported that the ridge caps and nails had not been properly or completely sealed as per the contract. He proceeded to provide us with multiple pictures which clearly showed this problem. We contacted Ability the next business day and informed them of the poor work that had been performed and sent them copies of the pictures without difficulty. We requested a refund for the work not completed by Ability as we now had little trust they had ever intended to do the job properly in the first place and we were now needing to replace the ridge caps as first requested. Ability responded that they would not issue a refund, they were only willing to come and re-do the job. That was the extent of their guarantee. Unfortunately, as senior citizens we would not be able to access the roof to inspect any job done by Ability and declined to have them return. We are now out the original payment plus the cost of having the replacement completed months after torrential downpours over the past months. Pictures of the work done by Ability are attached. Ability Plus is a great company. They provided a fair estimate and stuck to it. The crew was very respectful of our property and time and did a great job. We had a chance to meet one of the owners, an estimator, the operations manager, and had several calls from office manager to ensure we were informed and happy. And this was just a normal residential roof. They really made us feel well taken care of and we would definitely hire them again. Excellent service and great value for the price.

Outstanding construction experience. It began with the most complete and informative bid from 3 different roofing contractors. In fact, I had put off the work for a year and his second year bid compared very favorably in information and competitiveness with a new set of 3 contractors. We had several previous roofing jobs with the same shingles we were considering to view before finalizing our decision on which shingles. The bid included tear off, plywood underlayment, flashing and Certainteed Northgate composition designer shingle. They moved expeditiously once I decided to go with them. They worked during Portland’s spring weather. An evening thunderstorm with high winds lifted on piece of underlayment while the job was in progress. All was made right with the leak that occurred. The grounds were kept clean throughout despite all the debris from tear-off of an old shake roof. Dave advised and provided ventilation upgrades to the attic areas. Excellent work and excellent construction experience. I have done work on my own home and hired subcontractors for electrical, plumbing, drywall, and other remodeling. Dave is one of two I would work with again with Dave I would do it on a handshake; he is that dependable.

Prompt, professional, courteous. Performed moss removal on our roof that they had installed several years ago. Very satisfied. Highly recommend. Easy to work with.

Took longer than estimated to complete. Only have 2 guys working except 3 on Saturday. I also had the skylight replaced. Did find damage outside and inside that needed to be fixed before I paid. My concerns were addressed but I had to do 2 follow ups to get the work done.

F antastic. They protected my property, cleaned up their mess, and did a beautiful job in the time frame promised. As I'm watching my neighbor get a new roof today, I realize that Ability Plus took more steps to be professional such as protecting my garage door and depositing the old roof directly into a dump truck. (neighbor contractor threw it all over their grass and mine). Their pricing was competitive and they came with 3 referrals.

The crew did a great job. Quick, professional, answered questions, and cleaned up every night. I was very pleased with the quality of the materials and the look of the new roof.

I got a bid from Mike Doyle two years ago after getting other estimates from other companies. His company had done two roofing jobs in our immediate neighborhood and those customers gave good recommendations. I was trying to stall long enough for our homeowners association to change rules so that I could consider another type of roofing. Mike was sympathetic to this and even predicted that with the steep slope of my roof and its condition, I could wait a bit. After two years, no rules changed, so we felt it was time to go ahead. This process was painless. The crew arrived and immediately it was obvious that they knew what they were doing. The job was completed in 3-1/2 days. Every night at quitting time they cleaned up their mess completely. At one point, I had some questions, so called Mike who immediately came up to discuss whatever worries I had. After completion, Edgar (the foreman) came up to walk me through a final inspection. We discussed some small items and Edgar sent a man up to correct those items. All through the job, I was impressed with the skill, professionalism, knowledge, and honesty with which Ability Plus conducts its business.

They showed up on time and did the project quickly. They took all the stuff. There was no debris.

The gentleman that came to do the repair was very professional. He explained everything he did. He found another leak around the sky light and fixed it too. I was very impressed.

Workers were punctual and did an excellent job of cleaning up every day. They finished the job quickly. The manager inspected the finished work and made sure we were happy with the job, and we were.

The company did a poor job on the roof. They did not replace soft plywood sheathing and the plywood is delaminated and warped on the attic side of the roof. It was also discussed before the job began that the sheathing was loose in that section so they were to inspect it and make sure it was re-adhered or replaced if needed. I called them to inspect it upon discovery of the defect. They sent out an employee who stated upon inspection of the attic that the roof was in rough shape in that section, if they had seen the inside of the roof/attic they would have taken action. The employee told me he could not do anything and this would likely and quot;go nowhereand quot;. He told me I would need to contact the owner, Mike Doyle. I contacted Mike and he has not returned my call. I even enlisted the realtor I used, Sherry Francis from The Sherry Francis Group, for aide contacting him, since she recommended him so highly. I have had no reply from Mike Doyle. The roof was put on shortly before purchase of the home. The roof was done approximately 6/20/14 and we closed on 6/30/14. It is clear they cut corners on this job and there lack of response is highly unprofessional. As we clearly pointed out via our inspection there was a deficiency in this area of the roof and they needed to address it while completing the job, it is unacceptable that they are claiming ignorance to the issue. I have attached some pictures ***Update** - The contractor refused to honor the warranty on the roof, stating we did not have a contract with him. When we purchased the house we split the cost of the roof with the sellers and he provided us with warranty documents but won't honor them. We tried BBB, but it did not get a resolution. We are now filing a claim with the CCB (Construction Contractors Board). So shoddy work and questionable ethics are what we have experienced with this company.

I called Ability Plus Roofing to request an estimate for our roof project. The owner himself, Mike, visited and evaluated the site. Mike is friendly, punctual, responsive, courteous, an excellent problem solver and also very patient with all the questions I had. He gave me a bid that included several options that matched my needs and my budget. He was very honest and didn't try to up sell me at all. The crew showed up on time and got to work immediately. All their communications were friendly and direct. The work was completed earlier than promised. They did a thorough job protecting our property during the work and the cleanup was adequate. They paid great attention to detail, and were very good about discussing any new findings during tear down and installation of the new roof. The made some excellent suggestions for placing the vents in different locations on the roof for better ventilation. Overall, the crew was reliable, efficient, responsive, cleans up after themselves, and able to answer questions and concerns. Everyone we dealt with were and knowledgeable, professional and respectful. The entire job was done by one crew, who were all employees of Ability Plus. They didn’t use sub-contractors, which was a big decision factor for us. With all the lousy contractors out there today it is nice to know there is a company out there that you can trust to live up to their word and standards. The owner is great person and an honest business man, and his values are evident by the type of workers he hires. I would highly recommend them to anyone and will most definitely use their services again.

From first contact to final walkthrough, Ability gets all A's. Had a great experience and would refer them to anyone I know needing roof work.

I got them off of Angie's List. They were prompt, courteous, and they were reasonable in price. I am going to use them to replace the whole roof next summer. The repair is intended to be temporary, until I change the whole roof.

I didn't but even if I had, isn't their job to honor what customer does and doesnt want? Very strange

They were very good. I liked their responsiveness, price and professionalism.

His technician came out and introduced himself very professionally. He explained the work in great detail and then followed his plan exactly. The leak repair was guaranteed for three years, and a year later I have no problems. My roof will need replaced in the near futureand I plan on hiring Ability for that job. Highly recommended!

Originally estimate was done by potential buyer during home inspection and after getting few other estimates, I decided to hire them. They pretty much did everything that they said they would do and pretty happy with result. I would have wished the cleanup was better.

This was the buyer's agents contractor, but I was extremely impressed with their service, and their competitive price, and have already referred them out to a client. I would definitely use them in the future.

No problem they stated it would be done in two days and it was. A few days later the person in charge came back and checked out the work to make sure all was done correctly.

Mike, Cristi and Edgar were very easy to work with. They were friendly knowledgeable and quickly responded to any questions we had. We had a very active leak, so they made sure to fit in our roof replacement as soon as there was a break in the rain, even though it was a weekend. The whole roof was done in a day and we are very happy with the result. Because they fit us in earlier than expected for the roof we had to wait a couple more weeks for our gutters to be replaced, but we were happy to wait inside our nice dry house. :)

I called AP and they sent someone out the same day, no questions asked. Although I hadn't paid for the roof, they knew they'd installed it because they keep their data by address and said they'd honor the warranty before I even asked about it. When the rep showed up, he spotted the problem instantly. It wasn't anything related to their install--a downspout had gotten clogged so water was filling up the gutter and running over into our neighbor's yard. Although it wasn't their fault, he got a ladder, removed the downspout, cleaned it out (ugh, yucky stuff) and put the downspout back up. The downspout also had a leak where it had rusted through, so he recommended we get it repaired and gave us the name of a gutter company they recommend. When he was done, I asked him how much I owed and he said, and quot;nothing.and quot; I also asked him about the need for periodic roof maintenance, and he explained what to look for and when to call them. I expected him to tell me to call them every few years for a routine inspection, but he basically said, and quot;wait till there's a problem, then call.and quot; He pointed to another roof they'd installed in my neighborhood and it was moss free after several years, so he said I probably wouldn't see any moss or problems for many years. He had two chances to get money from me and didn't take either of them! You can bet I'll call when I need work done on my roof. I feel confident I'll get a fair price on work that really needs to be done.

We liked what they did from start to finish.
