A & P Appliance

I am very pleased with the service I got from A & P Appliance. I was able to get an appointment scheduled quickly (within 2 days for a non-urgent issue). Much to my surprise, the technician was on time - actually he was 3 minutes early! He introduced himself and was very professional. He explained that the problem I had was very common and easy to resolve. Within about 15 minutes, the problem was resolved.

Their service was excellent. He came out at the scheduled time. He diagnosed the problem quickly and had the part on his truck. He completed the job within an hour. I would use him again in the future.

Person who answered the telephone was very knowledgeable and helpful. I was able to schedule an appointment within a few days to check and repair our built-in microwave. Service man arrived promptly and was very efficient. I would definitely use this company again.

Mike came to our home on-time. He replaced the touch-screen in about a half-hour. This is the 4th time we have called A&P to our home. They have repaired our old dryer (replaced motor), Ice Maker, Dishwasher, and now the Oven. Mike is very knowledgeable and efficient. Each time he has come we are impressed with his experience and depth of knowledge. In our experience, A&P has provided excellent appliance service in a timely manner, at fair prices. I recommend them to anyone in the Portland/Beaverton area needing appliance repair./2

I buy repair parts from them for water filters. They are a kind of a small outfit but they are well packed with parts. They don’t have an order room. Their pricing is fair. When I go in they assist me right away.

Mike, from A & P, replaced the water valve on the back of our washing machine. Without being asked, he cleaned the filter trap as well - which had not been cleaned in 8+ years, I had no idea it was even a thing that existed. In the process of the cleaning, discovered that our pump was dying. Mike took the time to show me the problem in detail. He didn't have a spare pump in the van but had an open appointment the same day and returned to replace that part as well. I appreciate this a lot, as I didn't have to make arrangements with work to be home for another day. Mike was thorough, efficient, finished quickly, and checked his work to make sure there would be no problems down the road. Thumbs up to Mike and A&P - I'm very happy!

Unfortunately, our dryer decided to blow a 200.00 control board just before Christmas, but the technician made it as painless as possible. He had the part, so no waiting. He installed it and reassembled the dryer in 40 min. or so. I would use A&P again, and probably will have to, since the washer uses a control board also.replacement

I was given an appt. within 1 day of calling the service. They arrived on time and preformed the service to my expectations. It was well worth taking the time to research this company on Angie's List.

Called A&P Monday noon (with model#), got in-home appt for Tuesday 9am. Mike came promptly at 9am, took apart dryer, diagnosed problem as squeaky pulley wheel, recommended replacement. Even though drive belt looked OK, I asked him to replace it (figured it best to take advantage of this service call/labor cost to replace 12.5 y.o. rubber belt). Had parts in his truck, replaced items, vacuumed dryer & put it back together, verified it all worked and cleaned up work area. Was done by 9:45am. Very efficient, would use again for large appliance repair.

A couple of the most impressive points are the price and that they are punctual. They also were professtional, helpful, and freindly. My husband says they did good work not just average. We had hired them to put gutters on our son's home and are definitely going to hire them to new gutters on our home. Highly recommend.

I have used A & P/Mike several times over the years and their service has always been prompt, with excellent work done and for a fair price.

He was not friendly and had no personality. I was talking with him and halfway through the conversation he told me that he doesn?t talk when he works. He came out the same day that I called and the price was totally fair.

Right from the initial phone call to set the appointment, I found this company on the ball. The receptionist is knowledgable as well and you never have to go through a automated phone tree!!! This is the 2nd time I've had A & P out for my dishwasher over the past several years. They are excellent and Mike, the technician, is very skilled, very fast and very professional. My only surprise was the high cost of the diagnostics fee ($79) above and beyond the normal hourly labor rate + parts charge. Given that he was only in our house for 30 minutes, I would think part of the 30 minutes of his labor was used to diagnose the problem. Maybe that's a flat fee regardless if any actual repair work is done?? Either way, they are a great company and I'd certainly use them again.

Our gas oven suddenly began heating up very slowly - taking between 30 and 60 minutes to reach 350 degrees. I called on a Wednesday afternoon, and they offered several times for the appointment for the following day. They took the model number of the appliance over the phone to confirm that the technician would have the part. The scheduler called the day of the appointment to see if they could reschedule, but they were able to keep the original time. When the technician arrived he confirmed the problem and that the igniter was the source of the problem, and he quickly replaced it and confirmed that the oven was now heating correctly. While he was still working, my spouse called and asked if the technician could also look at one of the stovetop burners on the same appliance, since that burner would not ignite but for a long time had required us to ignite the gas with a flame to light it - unlike the other three burners. The technician added this effort to the call, and tried replacing the igniter on the burner, but this did not change the symptom, so he replaced the original part. He explained the problem, showing me that another part controlled two of the burners, and the second one had the same problem but was igniting just barely. I mentioned that we did not want to spend too much money on an old appliance. He told me the cost of the part and asked my permission before replacing it. I noticed that a roller had lost a nut, and he tried to replace that from his parts kit but could not - so he told me where I could find the nut locally. The entire call, including some difficulty getting a "universal" part to fit in a "non-universal" bracket, lasted 30 minutes. The technician was thoroughly professional throughout, in addition to being flexible and very helpful.

I called A &P this morning and said I was home today- waiting for another repair person, and could they send someone out to look at our dishwasher today, as a part inside had come lose. They confirmed they could have someone to the house today (miracle!). He was on time, calling right as he was on his way. He came in, saw the renegade part- fixed it, then troubleshooted inside the dishwasher, tighening things up, etc. He ended up replacing a bearing we did not know needed to be replaced. He was done in 15 minutes. He was professional, knew what he was doing- and got the job done. I appreciated the fact that he fixed the couple other issues I did not know about- saved me another future repair call. I would totally have them back for any appliance problem. Great Service!! And on the same day I called!!

My Kitchen Aid refrigerator wouldn't stop running. I called A & P, and they came out the next day right on time. Mike listened as I explained the situation. He opened the freezer (after we emptied the contents), and found some ice had built up towards the back. He determined it to be a faulty part that actually makes it "frost free". He replaced the part and and it has been working perfectly!

Called based on Angie's List. On the phone they checked stock for the part, quoted a price for installation and set a date. The night prior to the work they called to confirm the appointment. They arrived on time, confirmed the problem, replaced the seal, cleaned and inspected the machine, reassembled and cleaned up. The whole appointment took an hour. Could not have been better unless it was free.

A&P came to our house as our dryer was not working. Mike inspected the dryer and said the motor was out. He had a replacement on the truck and replaced it in about an hour. He also cleaned up the lint and now the dryer runds great.

The suspected cause was announced immediately upon hearing the noise coming from the dryer, seeing that the heating element was still fully functioning. A few turns of the screwdriver and the diagnosis was confirmed with quite a large cost quote, emphasis on the terms "parts & labor". The technician needed only to retrieve the part (estimated travel time: 1 hour across downtown Portland and back). I considered the positive Angie's List reviews, the fact that NOW was the best time to be home to get this done, and how inconvenient it would be to have to schedule a different service provider who would likely quote a similar cost, and I authorized the work. Only after I paid for services rendered, less the Angie's List $5 in-home repair coupon (LOL) that I had to print out, did I see that the majority of the cost was the diagnostic fee of $79.50 - what a surprise! The part was $68, the labor was $40. VERY professionally done: punctual, expeditious, polite, efficient, tidy and personable. I'd hire them again! I wrote what I did about cost surprise to explain that next time I'll ask about dispatch/diagnostic charges and hourly labor costs and I encourage other consumers to do the same. My investigative time is limited but my money is even more-so.

Excellent communication from start to finish. Price was acceptable and competitive. This was for a rental property, and the company has nice procedures to coordinate with tenant and landlord.

Panasonic microwave/convection oven shorted out; still worth saving (was $600 new). A&P identified required parts and suggested that an internet seach by us, the owners, could save on parts' costs. Indeed, we saved over $200 on parts thanks to A&P suggestion. Their total repair charge ($65) plus parts and we have our microwave back! It is difficult to find small appliance repair services. We are very pleased with the servaice we received.

Everything about the firm's service from the office contact to the work done deserved an A++.

Very prompt and complete. Service man was very professional and gave me options for keeping my dishwasher. The receptionist was also very nice and pleasant. I would recommend this complany.

The dishwasher wouldn't start and we couldn't figure it out. The user's manual indicated perhaps the heating coil was broken, but when A&P's repairman arrived he correctly diagnosed a completely clogged drain trap.
