We were looking to purchase a home in NE Portland. We knew it was a flip, and that some of the finishing work had been done shoddily, but figured we could fix that. Steve did a thorough inspection and pointed out a number of structural issues that we hadn't seen. Not only that, we found out that most of the "flip" work done was illegal or not to code--for instance, using gutters meant for sheds rather than for houses. Steve was very honest about his findings, documenting them with photographs and taking the time to explain to us how things should have been done. We ended up walking away from the house because of hidden issues that came up in the inspection. We greatly appreciate Steve's knowledge and patience, and will be using his services again.

He was superb! When he began the inspection he turned on the dishwasher. Then he proceeded to inspect the home very thoroughly inside and out, noting many problems. Then both he and I crawled into the crawlspace under the house, and found water cascading down into it!!! It was caused by a long term water pipe leak. Black mold was also found. Yikes! But the seller's insurance co stepped up to the plate an did many necessary repairs before we bought the house. His report was complete, with many photos of the problems. We figure his inspection saved us about $14,000.00!!! This is true. It was awesome and I can't recommend him highly enough!!

The work was completed in a satisfactory manner appropriate for the home. Steve is very knowledgeable and gave insights to any potential problems with the home. He was willing and able to deep-dive on questions my wife and I had. Most importantly he got the inspection results back to us on the evening of the inspection. Basically it was same day service. This is critical especially with the tight time frame for getting inspections completed.

We, thanks to Steve were able to negotiate with owner to fix and change some important issues with the house: Water Heater, owner did not accept to change the furnace but we got him to service the furnace and install monoxide carbon detectors. We feel now that we know exactly what to do in the house and we will prioritize these things. Also, thanks to his detailed examination we can provide the HOA with some information from outside the house that will need replacement or repair in a near future. He even noticed that a tree root was getting to close to the house and it will have to be removed, we think this will be very helpful for the HOA and we will have proof that the problems exist. Steve was very thorough. He found items that I would never have even thought of. I thought the roof was fine but it is being replaced after Steve found many things wrong with it. He found standing water in the crawl space that concerned me. He wrote a very detailed report.

Steve arrived early. He was very thorough and found a number of issues we were unaware of (an incorrect type of pipe used in our furnace and some DIY electrical errors by a previous owner). He made a list of jobs we need to accomplish for the safety and integrity of our 86-year-old home. He gave thoughtful and detailed advice about what REALLY needed to be done versus what some might try to sell to us. Steve was professional and friendly. We were quite impressed with his inspection.

Steve arrived a few minutes early and was ready to go when we arrived. Steve has lots of experience and did an excellent job. We would definitely recommend him to others. Very professional! We received the written report with pictures a few hours after the inspection.

Steve was able to make an appointment which fit in with my schedule. He was prompt and professional and answered all questions satisfactorily. Seemed very thorough and knowledgeable.

Steve arrived promptly and dove right in. He walked the roof, poked the insulation in the unfinished attic, explored into the far corners of the crawl space, ran all the appliances, tested each faucet, checked for proper grounding at several outlets, looked under the covers of the electrical panels, and on and on. I'm an engineer used to evaluating mechanical systems, but Steve thought to look at things that would have escaped me, some of them significant. That's why you hire a pro. Steve emailed me a detailed report with lots of pictures by the end of the day. He found all the issues that I was aware-of and several more, all documented with clear, sharp pix. Major issues Steve identified and irrefutably documented were cleared by the seller before closing, saving me more than Steve's fee in future repair costs. I recommend Steve without reservation. He's a thorough, experienced professional and I will certainly use him for any future real estate purchases.

dSteve was very good at answering my questions both before he came out during the inspection. I thought he did a better than average job but from what I've seen from other inspection reports it could have been more detailed. I understand we all have those off days at work especially when we do the same job over and over. I got the vibe the inspector wished he was somewhere else besides inspecting my house. All in all it was a good experience. I got the report that evening which I was impressed by.

Steve was professional, punctual, and we received his report within a couple of days. His report was easy to understand and included pictures. He did find a few things wrong that we were not aware of. Lots of what he identifed as a problem we already knew about. He did say to replace the dryer vent with a metal vent instead of plastic. We did have a metal vent. It was just dusty, so it looked like plastic. If we sell the house, we will be sure it is clean. This is the fifth home inspection we have been through. The others were either because we had buyers for a home, or we were buyers. Steve isn't the most thorough inspector that we have encountered. 3 of the previous inspectors were alot more thorough-brutally thorough. However, we have decided that no matter who is inspecting, none of them find everything. So, our practice from now on will be to fork out the extra money and hire two different inspectors. In that scenario, we would hire Steve again because he did pick up on a fairly major issue with the house we didn't know about. He has a lot of life experience with selling homes, and he gave us great practical advice as to what to do and not do when we sell. This was advice we have never heard anyone else say.

Steve was easily available to schedule appointment.Arrived on time addressed my concerns and went to work.He reviewed his findings with me,showed me pictures of areas of concern and sent me an email of his report within an hour of his visit. Would highly recommend him to others

Steve was quick to respond to my inquiry. I called him to inspect a place and then cancelled because the sale did not go forward. I called him a few weeks later to inspect another place and he was able to make an appointment for just a few days later. He was thorough, and he explained everything he found. He took pics in the crawl space so he could show me what he'd found. At the end of the inspection he told me to call him with any questions, which I did. I was very pleased with the entire experience.

We are electrical contractors and are considering purchasing the building that we currently lease. We retained Steve to give us his professional opinion and are very pleased with the thoroughness of the inspection. He was on time (actually ahead of schedule) and had a good bit of the outside portion completed when I arrived to meet him. He was completely prepared and went about the inspection very efficiently. Since we are electrical contractors we see many inspection reports from people in Steve's profession. His are among the best that we have seen in terms of completeness and value for the investment that homeowners make. His was precise when many others we have seen are vague or incomplete. It was a very helpful and positive experience and we wouldn't hesitate to use Steve's services in the future.

Steve was great. Nice guy. He showed up on time and was well into the inspection when I got to the house. He pointed out everything relevant to me, including some suggestions on things for the future. His report was sent on time with detailed photo's. I can only say good things about his services.

Steve was early and had already started on the roof when we got there (our realator was there). He was very thorough and took pictures and comments of all the "issues" on the house. The only problem was the battery for his camera had to be recharged half way through. Steve pointed out a sididng issue and saved us from making a 10K+ mistake. Thanks Steve! We sadly will not be moving into that home, but we will use Steve when we are ready to inspect the next one.

Steve was responsive, on time, easy to work with, and did a good job. He identified a lot of issues for us to address before putting the house on the market, but was not as thorough as some other home inspectors we've used. He pointed out some areas of termite/dry rot damage in the basement, which we then repaired before putting the house on the market. However, the buyers' inspector identified several additional areas, so we have had to have the contractor back out again to repair those. It would have been nice to get it all taken care of beforehand.

I hired Steve with A2Z to inspect my home. Steve has done a couple of houses for me before. He has always been on time and very thorough in his evaluations. I was able to renegotiate my purchase agreement with the seller and saved litterly thousands of dollars in both cases. Steve took lots of pictures of the defects and items of concern which he reviewed with me during the inspection and put in the inspection report. I recieved the report the same day, which totally exceeded my expectations. The inspection report was easy to read and gave me clear and specific information about my house, not just a bunch of boiler plate language. Steve told me at the house to call him with any questions I had even if that meant after business hours. I would always recommend Steve without any exception or hesitation.

I have absolutely No idea why Steve has received the high ratings from all the other people here that reviewed his service/company. He did get us scheduled quickly and he did show up on time. I have reflected that in my ratings But I would not call him thorough or even remotely accurate. Steve got us his report same day- great except he reported he checked the range when there was none in the house. He also told us the kitchen sink leaked after he splashed his face with cold water after being under the house inspecting the crawl space. We've now lived here for over a month and the sink does not leak at all. He told me the jetted tub in the master bath had no access- in two seconds I found it under one of the sinks. He then looked in it and said the tub was not installed correctly for support and we should be very careful using it or we would crack it. A later inspection by a Spa tub company told us it was sitting in mortar and was installed correctly. Steve went up into our attic which has blown-in insulation- he made a pretty good mess with all the insulation falling down- and I understand there was no way to prevent stuff falling when he opened the hatch but he does this all the time and he did not use a drop-cloth to catch it. He did get down and pick up what he could- then proceeded to toss the picked up insulation down one of the toilets and flush it! When he came up from the crawl space he got the carpet dirty ( not terrible) but again a drop-cloth seems warranted and I just can't believe someone who does this for a living would not use one. We did not own the house yet and he did not leave it as he found it. Having said all of this Steve did point out some useful stuff about the house but overall I felt he was trying to find things wrong or actually even worse, making them up. I can not recommend A2Z Home Inspections, and in fact since he was one of the first people we contacted ( based on Angie's List reviews) in a line of many contractors both before and after, it made me quite suspect of Angie's List and the veracity of the reviews here.

We are purchasing a bank owned home that looked to be in good condition. We wanted it professionally inspected prior to purchase to confirm that there weren't problems with the home that we didn't notice. Steve answered the phone when I called and was able to quickly schedule an inspection. Steve arrived early and went to work immediately. He did a thorough visual inspection of the home and pointed out a few items that needed to be addressed. The home was in good shape, so he finished faster than expected. Steve explained his findings and answered all of my questions before leaving. That evening I received the inspection report from Steve via e-mail. The report covered the same information we had discussed in person. I thought of a few more questions which he answered promptly via e-mail. Overall, I am very happy with Steve's work.
