Jason, my technician showed up on time and proceeded to test and evaluate my System. In doing so, he discovered an essential part that needed replacement. After replacing the part, he fully operated and tested both the air-conditioning and heat functions of the heat pump, and then evaluated its functionality and efficiency. He gladly answered any and all of my questions, and made useful recommendations for setting and running the systems for top performance. The system was an unusual and older one, but Jason was more than up to the task of testing, repairing and adjusting it for top performance. I would highly recommend Clean Air Act for all or your heating and cooling needs and concerns. Robert DiFranco

I am very very unhappy with this company. I recently purchased a home and along with that purchased a 1 year home warranty. The warranty included having my furnace maintenanced twice a year, but I had to use one of the warranty company's approved vendors. I contacted my home warranty case manager to book the spring furnace tune up and that is where I first engaged The Clean Air Act. My home warranty case manager sent a notification to the company to contact me for the tune up and told me to let her know if I didn't hear back. Well, I never heard back. I tried calling the Clean Air Act twice with no response and then emailed the case manager asking if I could get a different vendor as I wasn't being contacted. Then, the company finally called. I spoke with one of the men there and he said that the office manager (I think her name is Tina or Tiffany) would call me to schedule the appointment (not sure why he couldn't just book it right there). The office manager did call a few days later and we got the appointment on the books. During the conversation I asked if we could schedule an air duct cleaning for the same day as the furnace tune up as we had just finished a large remodel and the ducts are full of construction debris. She said no problem and that it would be $450 on top of the furnace tune up fee. I said no problem and scheduled it. When the day rolled around for the furnace tune up and duct cleaning it turned out that the office manager didn't schedule the appointment correctly and had put a dryer vent cleaning down instead of an air duct cleaning. The HVAC guy who tuned my furnace was very kind and apologetic, but that meant we had to move into our new home with the vents still full of junk. I called the office to reschedule the duct cleaning and the earliest they could do was 2-3 weeks out, so I booked it again. I received a phone call from the office manager this morning saying that with the hot weather we've had lately they've received a lot of emergency calls over the weekend on people's AC units and that they are behind. She said that the air duct cleaning for my home (scheduled for tomorrow morning) takes two people and half a day and she wanted to know if I could reschedule. I said that depends on when we would be rescheduling for as they've already made us reschedule our last appointment. She said the next earliest appointment open was next Monday, one week from today. I said no. I am not rescheduling as my family and I have been breathing construction debris for weeks now and we can't wait one more week. She then told me that she hadn't really been asking me if it was okay or not and that they had to push the appointment as there are elderly people and babies without AC right now... I said that I needed to think about it and talk with other HVAC companies as I have 3 children living in a home breathing construction debris. She said that that was fine and then hung up on me. I ended up calling a different company and booking with them. I call The Clean Air Act back to let them know and ended up getting their voicemail. I left them a message letting them know that I had chosen to go with another company and to please remove my appointment from their books. I have yet to hear anything from them in return. Seriously, go somewhere else. Do not use these people unless you're okay waiting months for service. Also, to try to guilt me into changing my appointment by saying that there are elderly people and babies with no AC is just petty. How about my babies living in a home breathing in all of the debris in my air ducts?

Jason arrived within the 15 minute window he gave me. Was friendly and professional. Gave me good suggestions for improving performance of equipment. Extremely knowledgeable about HVAC. Answered my questions without rushing or making me feel stupid. Checked everything while still listening to my questions. Showed me what he was looking at/for and why. The kind of person I want to always do business with. He is definitely my go to guy for all things HVAC.

Over the past 10 years The Clean Air Act has been helping me 'bandaid' my existing furnace as it had been temperamental during our time in the home. Rodger and his team has always been "johnny on the spot" whenever I needed help with the furnace. Finally 10 years later, I had the funds to replace it and add A/C. Woo hoo! Rodge and Team were on time, professional (as always). They even showed me where the old furnace had cracks in many of the heat exchangers (can be deadly CO levels!). All in all very very please with everything that was done. I will always call The Clean Air Act for all my HVAC needs!
Description of Work: Removed old furnace. Installed new 97% Amana furnace and added Air Conditioner. Some new ductwork was added as the furnace was located in a crawl space. Also received a really nice huge media filter. They provided all new electrical from panel to a/c unit as well via sublet vendor.

They spent enough time during the bid process to actually understand how the project would go, unlike some of the other HVAC providers that either had a pure sales person show up or spent very little time which. Having the owner and one of his lead guys show up for quoting was great, they were able to review some of the known challenges in my particular install. We discussed a few different options for replacing both furnaces, heat pumps, and A/C units. The quotes were emailed quickly with clear detail of agreed upon work. I selected one Amana 2-stage furnace with A/C to replace an oversized, loud, and inefficient existing unit. I also selected to add A/C to an existing furnace for our second zone. Once I accepted the bid they called to schedule the installation. The team of 3 showed up on time and worked for 2 days, as planned, to complete the project. Unfortunately not everything went as I had hoped due to the challenges with a 100+ year old house, however solutions were found and the project completed on schedule. The new furnace is a dramatic improvement over the previous one.
Description of Work: Replaced oversized and inefficient furnace with a new efficient 2-stage model with A/C, also added A/C and efficient blower motor to a second existing furnace.

This was the first contractor I looked up through Angie's list. Robert was a rock star and I was totally happy with his service. He was like a friend working on my house with me. I had no problem giving him the money, he earned it. They did a proper job with a good guy approach. If I needed anything in the future I will use them every time.

We called Rodger during a busy time as it was just starting to get hot here in Portland. I was not expecting him to get out to our house today, however, he returned our call, asked some questions about the unit (which he has us monitor over the phone) and then promised to be out in an hour. He was there about an hour and a half later and fixed the problem by replacing a part. He was professional, knew what he was doing, and charged a reasonable price.

Roger was right on time, extremely informative, polite, professional and the list goes on. How refreshing to have someone state and quot; there's no need to spend money you don't have to, lets try this firstand quot;. Roger gave me a few suggestions to try before we delve into a full-stage dehumidifier. Very impressed with this gentleman. I only wish I would have met him prior to the install of a new Furnace last year from Service Now.

W e had another company come in and clean the heating ducts and furnace, while he was cleaning the furnace he smelled gas and red tagged the unit (shut off the power and gas).I made quite a few phone calls to different big name heating companys and told them what I had and what was going on.Not one of them could get out that day and most were a week out. We needed heat ASAP they ALL told me the furnace was old and needed to be replaced, parts were hard to find etc. without even looking at it. I talked to a friend of mine and he told me about Roger and the guys at Clean Air Act. They were out the next morning inspected the furnace, called the manufacturer and found out that that particular unit had a small relief that vented a miniscule amount of gas when it cycled off, (this is what the duct cleaner had smelled) in fact they told him it should have had a decal on it so when installed in a new house the inspectors wouldn't red tag it. They also found a weak spring in the control unit on the furnace and replaced it. It is a Lennox furnace and the local Lennox dealers either didn't know or didn't care about these facts but they were all pushing very hard to sell me a new furnace with removal and install fees. Roger and crew were very professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and took the time to answer all my questions. I wouldn't hesitate to call them again or to recommend to a friend or relative. In fact they will be the first call I make if I ever need furnace work or when I finally need a new furnace. Thank You Clean Air Act

My expericnce with the company was great. Very easy to do business with and their orientation to service is outstanding. I would recommend this company to anyone, especially folks who are not knowledgable on the ins and outs of heaters. This company will not take advantage of you, like trying to oversell you, as I noted other companies trying to do.

It could not have gone any better--these guys are true professionals with high integrity.
Description of Work: Name:Susan Genereaux Dear Angie's List, I wanted to tell you about the best heating and air conditioning company in the Portland area. The Clean Air Act, owned by Rodger A. Brown, CCB# 144650 is incredible. I have lived in Portland for 6 years, and until finding Rodger, have dealt with the really large heating and cooling companies. I couldn't believe the difference when I found Rodger, and his associate Jason. I got their name from my new neighbor, who has been using them for 18 years. When I first called, I spoke with Rodger personally and he helped me trouble shoot the problem over the phone with a simple solution that meant I didn't need a service call. The next time I called, they quickly came out in the middle of a heat wave and repaired my ancient air conditioner which has been working great for the past year. There was no hard sell about how they couldn't fix such old equipment--they just got the job done in a super timely way. And there was no six hour window of waiting for them. They showed up just when they said they would. These are really good people, and I will use them and recommend them to everyone that I know. They are a rare gem in this industry.

Our extended family has been using Rodger for years. He is extremely fair, honest, effiicient and reliable. He responds immediately to calls and has even come out to our house on a 100 degree Sunday night when the air did not turn on when we returned from vacation - WITH NO CHARGE! When we replaced our old unit for a new one he reviewed all the options with us in laymen's terms we could understand and never tried to oversell (as others had). He also has a great staff and uses reliable, trustworthy electrical contractors. His prices are very reasonable and fair but it is his service that is worth so much more. Would recommend him to anyone without question or reservation!

Rodger came out to fix my heat pump because when I started to use the air conditioner it stopped working. He came out promptly and repaired a transformer that shorted out. It worked for two days before shorting out again. He came right back and they found out that the drain was plugged which ended up shorting first the transformer than the fan motor. they repaired the drain and replaced the fan motor for no charge. So far the new fan motor has saved me over fifty dollars a month in my electric bill. My old one ran at 7.5 amps and this one at high speed only takes 1.5 amps. On his first visit he recommended a lifetime filter which has worked great for over a year. The Clean Air Act is one of the most professional, freindly and considerate company I have ever worked with in fifty years of hiring contractors. They are genuinely interested in the coustormer first and not how much money am I going to make today. That kind of work ethic and attitude should be what al businesses large and small should be like. If you need this kine of help don't hesitate to call these guys.
