Locally, the demand for well drilling services exceeds the available capacity, so wait times on the order of 3 months are typical. We initially contacted another local driller and waited, but the estimated date for starting our well kept getting pushed back, and the other driller was uncommunicative, sometimes completely ignoring our questions. Eventually we gave up and tried contacting John at Larry Evey Well Drilling. We were really glad we did, because although Larry Evey Well Drilling was also booked for roughly 3 months, they said there were a few gaps in their calendar during which they could attempt our well. It was a matter of luck that Larry Evey Well Drilling was able to fit us in on short notice, but beyond that, I was very pleased with John's professionalism, communication, and punctuality. He showed up when he said he would, he was game to drill where I requested, and he did a good job answering my many questions (which ranged from what sort of material was coming out of the bore hole to cost estimates). In particular, given some discretion about the final depth of the well (based on instructions along the lines of "5 GPM is the minimum we need to achieve but we're hoping for more like 30 GPM, and don't exceed 350 feet depth") I felt like he had good judgement about how far to go -- we ultimately got our 35 GPM (measured with a pump installed down the well), but had he stopped just a little shallower in order to get on to the next job, we'd only have ended up with something like 6 GPM.
