Pete dissembled before contract was signed, fiddled the language in the revised bid, altered what materials would be used, used inappropriate materials (C/D plywood for flooring substrate allowing him to pocket $78.00 difference from A/C); used inappropriate installation (staples rather than 8d nails); did not begin on time; after 2 days, with one day left on contract to work, told me he wouldn't be back before August; ordered windows other than those I'd spec'd and which was included in the contract without authorization (a different manufacturer and supplier which would have allowed him to pocket $300.00); was belligerent when questioned about this on the phone; refused to take responsibility for remediation when defects in substrate pointed out and remedy requested. When informed he was off the job and needed to arrange an appointment with me for a change of contract form, he instead sent a letter threatening lien against my property. It took a CCB complaint to get him into negotiation for change of contract form, holding up part of my project. Lied to my face in the CCB mediation process: said he hadn't been informed of need to arrange appointment for change; said window spec sheet was not part of his contract (then turned to last page of his contract and lo there it was, with his handwriting on it). Said C/D plywood was used, rather than A/C agreed on, because it was "structural" and "waterproof". Said C/D and staples are "allowed by code." Substrate for floor system is not a structural component any more than the flooring is therefore it is not covered by code. It's sole purpose is to create a solid, smooth surface for the flooring. Had I chosen sheet goods the installation would have been impossible as we could not have gotten the substrate sufficiently smooth. Standard practice installation is 8d nails on A/C or voidless. He couldn't even get the shelf installed in the place I specified: off by two inches. The closest he came to acknowledging any wrongdoing on his part was to say that my offer was "More than fair" which it certainly was. One last note: I chose Pete because several years ago an older man who worked for/with him did some work for me and it was fine. At that time I turned in the one and only other review on Pete Nelson Construction, LLC and gave his outfit an A rating. The older guy doesn't work with/for him anymore. The flooring folks hate (their word) following him. He inconvenienced everyone and cost me hundreds of dollars more. His explanation for all this trouble at the end of the CCB mediation: miscommunication. Since the point of dissembling is to miscommunicate in order to mislead, that is the only thing he said that I know of that is true. So let me be clear: go elsewhere.
Description of Work: Hired to install vapor barrier and A/C plywood substrate for new flooring; supply and install owner spec'd windows; reconfigure cabinet above fridge; repair garage roof where electrical mast had been removed. Did such terrible work he was let go; making the mess he left useable required change of contract forms with two other contractors, added weeks and hundreds of dollars to job; getting him to sign change of contract form required mediation through Construction Contractors' Board complaint process.

Excellently from my perspective. He has also inspected the bathroom where I hope to have him install, into the wall, an odd-shaped medicine cabinet. That one I'm saving up for.
Description of Work: Pete collected the rotted out wrought iron handrails to the front porch steps, had them repaired at the welders, drilled out the concrete steps and properly installed them so they won't rot out again. Additionally, he knows the disabling illness I live with requires enormous amounts of rest. Rather than wake me when he ran into a glitch early in the day, he rescheduled and returned later.
