The shrub removal was done promptly, cleanly and it was a success. The trouble began when we had a dispute over the quoted price; I added several plants to be removed and in our meeting it was agreed to do it for the same price. We talked, albeit never in person; email and text (which I find frustrating in a customer service environment). After quite some time he did respond, although not graciously, and reduced some cost. I was fine moving forward after that. We had his crews do a spring cleanup in our front yard for an agreed upon fee; they did a good job. The were to come back bimonthly for an agreed upon fee; I spoke to his foreman and told him to contact me or have the provider contact me so we could prioritize the tasks on these subsequent visits. I never heard from either one and as far as we could tell, no more work was done. Some month or so after the fact we received a bill for $150 each for two visits. We have no indication by work done or by any other means that they showed up. I believe they didn't; these charges didn't show up on the bill until we had a dispute over a sprinkler repair issue. During this entire time; we had very few in-person conversations; the provider took two vacations and otherwise simply didn't return request for communication. We had commissioned the provider to repair a sprinkler system; the system had been working for years and had just gotten and quot;glitchyand quot; zone would sometimes work and other times not, the whole system would sometimes work and sometimes not. The provider communicated with me via text; he told me he had to have some valves replaced. I authorized that because his best guess was that this was a source for the problem. It didn't fix the problem. He determined that the problem was related to our irrigation pump; we pull water from a river. I disagreed; I have some knowledge of pumps and the pump worked fine; the system had been using it for the 5 years previous that I had been in charge of the place as it was. My conclusion was it was the valves or the controls. So, the provider reiterated his belief. he called my wife, she pays the bills. he told her everything was a fixed except the pump and that he had communicated with me; all was well, please pay the bill. She did. It wasn't. Over a period of weeks and months I tried texting, emailing and finally calling his office. I got no response directly to me although he talked again to my wife. I finally gave up after a nasty email exchange. In the interim, I had a qualified sprinkler company come out and all the guy did after checking the valves and heads, was find a corroded wire in the control box. He snipped it, peeled the casing off and then reattached it. Guess what? It worked. II will offer that the issue the provider had with the pump was that it hadn't a backflow valve installed. My point was that it hadn't had one for 5 years; they get knocked off by logs in the winter, sometimes they get stolen. The system had worked for that five years; if one didn't use it for three days or so it would syphon out and you'd have to re-prime. The point is that I did finally install a backflow valve but the control repair fixed the system so that it operated as it previously had. Now the pressure is a little stronger and the zone are more under control (from the new valves). There are two valves in a 5 valve system that the provider never even found. My contention is that he is not a sprinkler expert; we were charge upwards of $980 for work that didn't solve the problem. What , one would ask, did the successful repair cost? $75.00 So we have the disputed amount for the unsuccessful repair and unaccounted for hours, we have the cost of the valves and now (again weeks or maybe months later) two $150 landscaping bills. We paid the sprinkler bill after he misstated my satisfaction with the work to my wife. That was a bush league tactic; divide and conquer. During this entire process, the provider wanted to lead us along his priority path. It was to provide us with a new deck. It took somewhere around 6 weeks for him to get us a design I expressly and my wife reluctantly agreed to look at as part of the and quot;master Planand quot;. I estimated in our first meeting the deck would cost $15k to 20k. I told him we didn't have the money for that. He worked ahead on it anyway, admittedly without charge, but he wasted our time; the estimate came in at $29,000. So, I'm sure that this behavior works with some clients. We really liked his designs on his website. We think he was right on with his priorities if we were budgeted to do that kind of major work. I din't like the deck design but that's ok. What killed us was this incompetent sprinkler thing; we finally got the sprinklers working on the first day of rain in September. We lost or stressed a number of trees or plants due to his lack of experience. It was exceptionally hard to get any sprinkler or landscapers to come help us in the middle of the season; we finally did and he was great. So, I've shot my entire patience quotient on this guy. he's had plenty of opportunity to be a man and a business person and call visit and he hasn't done so. I'd never recommend him and I don't really want to hear from him.
Description of Work: The provider removed some shrubs and did a front yard cleanup. The provider attempted to fix a dysfunctional sprinkler system.

Gary has an amazing knack for seeing a landscape space and placing appropriate and beautiful items of interest, whether it be a plant, tree, rock, whavever. The guy has great vision, for sure! We actually had landscape plans drawn up before we met him, but he came and looked at them, and gave us pointers and ideas on how things could be much improved and why. He really wants the yard to be beautiful all year round and not just during the spring and summer...he's great at having different bushes flower at different times...in fact, one of our plants is starting to flower right now, and it's the middle of November!:) That was much of the reason we hired him...we were inspired by his vision. He was not the least expensive contractor that we had come out, but he had great ideas. It was a long process, but we had a big job, and we had other big projects that all happened to happen at the same time... like getting a new roof. Gary was quite accommodating when it came to that...he paused his project so the roof could go up, even though we hadn't really planned on that. It was also quite helpful to go on a and quot;field tripand quot; to the nursery to get an idea of what plants he was talking about, since we were largely unfamiliar with many of them. It would have probably been helpful if I had brought a camera along to take pictures of the plants so I could continue to learn about them and decide what I wanted in a better way. It was a lot of information for us all at once, since we really aren't the and quot;designand quot; type and somewhat indecisive by nature when it comes to this sort of thing. Gary and Seth (his foreman) worked really hard for us. A couple of times, we struggled with our communication (my husband and I were at fault) and had a couple of unforeseen cost-raising circumstances occur (stuff in the ground causing problems that wasn't Gary's fault), but in the end, we ended up with a BEAUTIFUL yard...one that many of my neighbors stop and complement us on every day we are outside to receive complements. Just so you know, most of my neighbors have discriminating tastes. Thank you, Gary, for a job well done:) Hire him. ***It's been a couple of months since I wrote the above initial review and I thought I would add some more...I fall in love with the yard more and more every day, especially now that the stress of the project is gone. I still get lots of compliments. Gary and Seth did a GREAT job. Hire them!!
Description of Work: Gary and his team came to us helping us to a complete remodel of our large front yard. They added a large french drain, bore a hole for electrical wiring under our driveway, removed some plants (we had done much of that ourselves already), added sod, added raised rock beds, mailbox moving, fence moving, installed some rocks, installed lighting, trees, grasses, etc. I think I'm missing quite a few items of what else was done. It was a really big job!

I have an issue with only one aspect on what they did. Their people were good. The price was a little high. They did not backup their warranty on something. They put this pump and the new pump didn't last in a year when it broke it worn out its own pump. We looked at it and the owner would not do anything for it. He said he would pay for the labor but not the part. I told him that he violated the warranty in the way that they put it in in the first place. I think that was very unprofessional and not businesslike. The workers are very good and very nice. I didn't like the owner.

His name is Gary Swanson. He is a very fair and honest guy. I know he did work for my neighbor and it didn't cost as much as they anticipated and he refunded money. He is a very good person. He really seems to try to run a good business. We are on a maintenance plan and they come every month of the year except for December. They will do whatever they can. They gave me a quote for the gutters and I thought it was high but at that point I was desperate and told him to do it. Then they charged me a lot less. If they realize they have estimated the time wrong they will refund the money. At that time they had just starting doing gutters and I don't think they knew exactly how long it would take. It ended up being a very reasonable price. He is very fair. My house was deceiving and it looked like it would take more time. It ended up being less than what I had paid previously. He is unusually fair. I've been using him for ten years.
Description of Work: I use Enchanted Gardens Landscape Services. They do my monthly yard stuff and they have done some small projects. He does pond work and will clean gutters if I want the gutters cleaned.

We initially called Gary Swanson about our drainage issues and wanted a sidewalk from street to our house. Enchanted Gardens was recommended by a friend that gave us a tour of the work Gary did for them. After some long conversations about what our existing issues and our likes and dislikes, and some discussion back and forth, Gary promised a proposal and estimate within the week. Gary came back on his own with one of his employees to do detailed measurements and to take a second look. Within the week, he returned with his ideas with costs for each. We spent several more hours going over the ideas, made some modifications based on our discussions, and chose which we wanted to follow up on. The regrading of the driveway and enlargement of the patio were generated by Gary's expertise and were right on. We couldn't be more pleased with his recommendations. We also have a very natural styled lot with lots of natives. He listened to our wishes to retain the feel and enhanced it with the natural paving, playing up our large trees with lighting. Gary and his wonderful team, listened well and gave us more than we had even envisioned. He team couldn't have been more courteous in minimizing any impact to us. Any questions or changes we desired were immediately addressed. Delia in the office made sure that appts and calls were on track. Gary came out on occasion to check progress. We will use Enchanted Gardens again for some additional changes that we want in the back yard in the future. Our experience couldn't have been better.
Description of Work: Our landscaping involved regrading and replacing the driveway to accomodate vehicles, enlarging a sunken patio, enhancing our drainage for the drive and patio, laying front pathways in crushed gravel with stepping stones edged by stone, natural stone retaining wall, stone steps down to the patio, covering our front step with stepping stones, a custom entry archway, pathway lighting and accent lighting.

Gary from Enchanted Gardens patiently listened to our needs and desires. He was honest with us, explaining why some of what we wanted done was not wise and offered good cost-conscious alternatives that closely matched our vision for the area. The Enchanted Gardens workforce made a special effort to avoid damaging our grass and plants and cleaned up the area very nicely each day before they left. They were courteous to both us and our neighbors. When a drainage problem arose in the gravel walkway a couple of weeks after the job had been completed, Gary had his staff out at our house within a couple of days to remedy the problem. They even consulted with us to make sure the new changes they decided were needed in the walkway were to our liking. Overall, we were very pleased with the work and impressed with the company and their staff.
Description of Work: Our backyard had existing stone terracing and a mortared stone stairway which were poorly built and falling apart. We asked Enchanted Gardens to turn this backyard disaster into something that would last and that we could enjoy. Enchanted Gardens rebuilt the deteriorating stone terracing and expanded and improved on the original design and workmanship. They also removed the disintegrating mortared stone stairway and replaced it with a new stone stairway sitting on a concrete base (the original had only a gravel base which shifted, resulting in cracking or the mortar). They also installed a gravel walkway around a garden structure.

We had a few odd improvements to make around our house and were also looking for some general spring clean up. We reviewed the top choices in the List and found Enchanted Gardens. Gary was our first call. We also called in a second landscaping service to give us an estimate and gather ideas. Gary was great. He was right on time with our appointment. He looked around the property as we described what work we were looking for. Gary came up with some great ideas and also a couple that we didn't even consider at first. After considering both landscape services, we ask Gary to come back for a second walk through. No problem. He was right on time once again. He even brought some samples of the stone that he was planning on using for a retaining wall he was repairing for us. Gary and his crew were very professional and always available for questions when ever we called.
Description of Work: Gary and his crew did some general spring clean up around our 7500 sq. ft. lot. His crew weeded, edged, trimmed shrubs and removed some dead materials. One project we had asked Gary to do for us was to create a decorative rock retaining wall around our vegetable garden area in the back yard. Gary came up with an excellent choice of design and materials. He also noticed another portion of our back yard that is adjacent to some ground cover vines that are boarder our property. He suggested trimming back about 2 ft of the vines and adding a small retaining wall to separate the vines from our yard. It turned out fantastic. It really added a clean separation between the two properties and provided some additional space for some decorative plants in front of the wall. Gary s crew worked very hard and completed the job as estimated in a day and a half. The crew cleaned up all of the debris and even replaced a few plants that were removed by mistake. Although our job was relatively small, I would definitely recommend Enchanted Gardens for any job, large or small.

Gary was great right from the beginning. He came out and met with my wife and I to determine exactly what our needs were and to get a good idea of what the property offered. After evaluating our needs and wants, he came back with a rough plan of what he would propose. We deliberated a bit about the use of artificial grass and Gary was very helpful in that area. As we got closer to the deadline, we met up with Gary on a Saturday to choose colors of stones that he would be using. He has a very keen eye for color and we ended up going with his suggestions, 100%. The start of their work also coincided right around the time my wife and I went to the hospital and returned home with our first child. Gary's crew, including Seth, the crew lead, were all very kind and welcoming to the new parents. After another week or so, the work was finished. My wife and I were very happy with the results, and got numerous compliments from our neighbors on the results. I had to ask Gary to come back to add a few more pavers and help out adjusting the sprinkler system and he was more than happy to do so. We had a great experience with Enchanted Gardens and would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Removed all existing landscaping and graded the surface, put in irrigation system in front and back yards. Added two walking paths made of paver stones as well as widened our driveway with the same stones. Added a retaining wall to level out front yard, brought in large boulders as accent points in the front yard. Low maintenance, mostly native species plants were added throughout the yard, taking into consideration light levels in front and back. Added a walking path for our dog and a gravel pad under an existing tree in the backyard to take advantage of natural shade. Finished the project off with sod in our backyard, final plantings and spreading bark mulch over the entire property.

It went very well. The owner had told Delia after my first call that they would charge $50 per man to do repairs. Seth's time and cost estimate was exactly right: he and a helper arrived on time, worked very hard, fast and efficiently for exactly 4.5 hours to complete the repairs, cleaning and rehabbing of the pond. They installed the new skimmer and extended the hose of our existing pump so that it could be installed in the skimmer. They also brought some additional river rock and flat stones to enhance the bottoms of the two ponds and the top edges. We learned that our pond is in better shape than we'd thought, and it looks lovely. The skimmer has also slowed the flow of the water so that it is quieter and doesn't evaporate as fast in warm weather.
Description of Work: Cleaned, repaired and improved small two-tiered fish pond. Referred by a neighbor, I called to find out if Enchanted Gardens could repair a leaking uptake hose and increase the height of our approximately 10-year-old pond. Seth came out and proposed ways to increase the pond's depth and repair the uptake hose. He found a few holes in some concrete that he could patch. He also suggested installing a skimmer and moving the pump to a new, more accessible place. He said he would work up an estimate and give it to Delia in the office. Delia called a few days later with 2 estimates: one just for cleaning and making the repairs I had requested, the other for installing the skimmer and moving the pump (to sit inside the skimmer). We decided to take the skimmer. The costs were labor $450, parts $325.

They came out and gave me an estimate, and then came back at a later date to drop off the contract. When we looked over the contract we were concerned about a few issues and points in the contract. We decided to hold off on agreeing to the work in an effort to do some research on the provider. About three weeks later he and another worker showed up at my house and started marking the yard and making cuts to dig out for my retaining wall. When I looked out and saw them doing this I asked them what they were doing, and told them to stop working as we had not agreed to any work. In addition they were digging out ground for the retaining wall without getting utilities located.
