Called provider on Friday requesting an appointment to look at cement/sidewalk repairs mandated by the city. After difficult phone start, he suggested Saturday. I said no, it had to be next week (this week). He agreed and suggested Monday, "after 9:30AM." I insisted "No, AT 9:30." He requested that i text him my address--I think he may have been driving. I texted my address and confirmed the appointment at 9:30, Monday. Here it is Monday, almost 1:00PM. Provider has not shown up. I called at approximately 10AM and heard a very difficult to understand phone mail message which was followed by an automated voice informing me the the mailbox was full and that I should hang up. With communication this bad, there is no way i will consider trying to do business with this firm.

The entire project took almost two weeks and included removal of all the stair ways and existing patios, regrading the grounds, adding gravel and clean up. They exceeded our expectations in every respect. We were concerned that with their bid being the lowest of four that corners might be cut but none were. I would hire them again for any kind of concrete work and highly recommend them here.
Description of Work: Our Condo Association had MAC Concrete replace a couple of large patios behind a townhouse style condo, add drainage to the site to insure that rain water would not be a problem under the building and replace three sets of concrete stairs elsewhere onsite.

I was in the process of selling my home and needed a good deal on replacing my driveway. I was away from town and needed a good contractor to complete the job without my presence. I contacted two to three contractors in the area and received an immediate response from Mac Construction. Additionally, the quotation provided from Mac Construction was significantly lower than their competitors. I received a call right away and the contact person (Cresencio) provided a quotation the same day. The job was done on time and the quality was excellent. Being on the road while having the job done was a challenge; however, Cresencio and his team completed the task with minimal complications. I highly recommend Mac Construction for driveway work to anybody.

The provider specified a time to meet with me to provide an estimate of costs. Unfortunately, the provider never showed up to the job site without providing any communication as to why he would be unable to make it. A phone query left on the providers answering machine has also failed to provoke a response.

The quote from Mac Concrete Construction was significantly lower than all of the other quotes I received. I don't always go with the lowest quote. However, based on their ratings on Angie's List and the references they provided I decided to use them. I wasn't disappointed. Crescencio Martinez always showed up when he said he would, was always accessible by phone and email, and did a quality job that has significantly improved the curb appeal of my home. Not to mention building the driveway I should have had all of these years. I couldn't be happier.

The experience was great. Crescencio gave me a series of options in his bid which allowed me to see what each option would cost. We catered the project to our budget. Once we agreed to the scope of work, Mac Construction started within 48 hours, arrived promptly and worked quickly. They went the extra mile to clean up our property and street every day when they were done.

FINISHED PRODUCT IS TERRIBLE... I noticed few spots, as they were pouring, where the wire mesh was within 1/2and quot; of the surface. And afterward, we could see the wire poking through the surface in 2 corners of the room. The floor has no level spots within a 4' area; Dips and bumps galore. The and quot;finishand quot; on the pour was not finished at all. We were told that the estimate says and quot;hard troweland quot;, but we specifically asked that the floor be COMPLETELY FINISHED. After he was called back to look at the job we were unhappy with, the gentelman said and quot; This is as good as it getsand quot;, to which my boss repied, and quot; then this is as good as your payment getsand quot; :) What good is a budget floor if we have to hire another contractor to finish the job?!? It would be helpful if this contractor was able to effectively communicate in the English language.
Description of Work: WE HAD A CONCRETE FLOOR POURED IN A 20 X 20 2ND STORY ADDITION. THE GUY WAS QUICK TO GIVE A BID ON THE SPOT, WHICH WAS OVER 1000 DOLLARS CHEAPER THAN OTHERS. (i HAD 5 BIDS FOR THIS JOB, RANGING FROM $5,000 TO THE 2,500 I WAS QUOTED)

with these people we don't have any contract, this is a meddler person. The contract was made with Jim Herderson(owner of the business ) this person is very arrogant and stingy. On my contract, I was very specific on the smooth finish floor and I explained that the polish finish floor is different and required more money and time , and he didn't accepted the pay of the extra work and labor. IF THE JOB WAS DONE TERRIBLY, WHY DIDN'T HE PUT A CLAIM WITH THE CCB. OR ON MY INSURANCE OR BOND ? WE HAVE 07 YEARS ON MY BUSINESS, AND CCB LINCENCE IS VERY CLEAN CCB#176314 the business of this project is on 7800 SW. Barbur blvd, portland OR, if somebody wants to look at it.

The Pros: a) They worked hard b) They were pleasant c) They completed the work on time d) They negotiated a fair price with us The Cons: a) Although our grading needs (the zero grade 90and quot;x90and quot; was raised with the contractor on multiple occasions), the new grade did NOT match the existing grade (there is 3/8and quot; difference). This is problematic for us since our hot tub has to be completely level (something the hot tub company told us and something we conveyed clearly to the contractor). There were also smaller variations in grading within this 90and quot;x90and quot; area. After calling the contractor about the problem (we discovered this problem after they left on 8/26/11, they have not returned our call (it is now 8/30/11). However, they have deposited the check we gave them. We are now left with the problem of how to address the grading before our hot tub arrives next week. b) The contractor damaged our siding when they cut a portion in order to lay the new concrete. This was not brought to our attention. We discovered the problem after they left. This was also raised as an issue in the above call with no response. We have also been left to deal with the siding issue. There were also additional issues (smaller, but still of concern): c) We had clearly informed the contractor (on multiple occasions) that we wanted the new concrete to interface with the old concrete (which had a curve) in a straight line. This did not happen. When we raised this as a problem (since the work had not been done as requested), the contractor used and quot;sandand quot; to bridge the difference (since they did not reserve enough concrete to do so). It looks better than what was originally done. However, there is a visible difference between the old concrete, the new concrete, and now the additional and quot;sandand quot; patch. d) There is a strange hump in another portion of the transition between the old and the new concrete (a grading issue). This visual hump is made worse because a) It is not even (it is a curved line), and b) the higher portion has visible rock and the other portion is smooth with little visible rock. If the problems from the work completed were less functional in scope (e.g., grading), we would have provided a higher rating. However, in light of the grading issues as well as lack of responsiveness on the part of the contractor, we were not able to provide them with a higher rating.
Description of Work: We expanded our backyard patio in order to accommodate a new hot tub. We had certain specifications that were needed (e.g., a zero grade 90"x90" area for a new hot tub). The work included removing dirt and sod, pouring new concrete (with rebar), using our existing patio as the grade for the new patio (to have a zero grade 90"x90" area), and interfacing with our existing patio (which has a curve). We also asked for an exposed aggregate finish to match the existing concrete. We chose to work with this contractor based on a combination of their positive reviews on Angie's list and their quote.

Very good. The project started and finished on schedule. The crew worked very well together and were very friendly (no bad attitudes) and the final product is very nice. They used quite a bit of rebar (every 18and quot;), more than other contractors quoted. We asked for a 1% sloping grade from the house toward the backyard fence and they hit it exactly with their leveling equipment. The surface drains very quickly when it gets wet. We will be adding a sealer this weekend (July 9th). My wife was home for most of the work, while I obtained updates from work. MAC Concrete Construction are very professional in all respects.
Description of Work: We had an approximately 850 square foot colored concrete slab added to our backyard for a basketball court. The work included: Removing all grass, tree stumps, digging large hold for basketball hoop base, leveling, rock packing, rebar placement, concrete pouring, smoothing, etc. Our project cost a bit more due to large stump removal, usage of a concrete pumper and coloring. We purchased the coloring directly (Terra Cotta - a premium color). The work took place over four consecutive days.

Overall, we are very pleased with the project. The only area where Mac Concrete could improve is disposing of the waste from the concrete after finishing the surface. We would have preferred to have had all of the waste hauled away instead of burying it in the flower beds. There wasn't much (maybe 10 gallons) but by placing it in a 55 gal drum and removing it from our project site would have been the preferred method of disposal. The contractor returned upon request to clean up some of the concrete remnants that were buried in the flower beds. The cleanup was satisfactory.
Description of Work: Our old driveway was beginning to chip, crack, and one of the panels had settled to the point where it became a trip hazard. We considered replacing the entire driveway with pavers but after looking into the price we decided to replace the driveway with one just like it but with some upgrades. We added brick pavers in a cross-hatch pattern. It was additional money but we liked the appearance of the pavers and thought it would make a nice upscale look to the driveway. Mac Concrete's bid was in the middle of the three bids we obtained but I liked the owner's professional approach to the work and felt he would do the best job. He had a notebook full of color pictures of some of his work which gave us a good idea what we could expect. He also had many excellent reviews of his work posted on Angie's List which gave us some assurance that we would get a good job. He communicated his plan and his price. He followed the plan almost to the letter and met his original price target. The project was completed on time and was well done. In other words a "quality job".

The experience was as perfect as any work I have had done by a contractor in years. And I must say that I am not the kind of person who gives good ratings to everyone. Crescencio was out at my property to do the estimate when he said he would be. He was on time every time he said he would be at my house. He was easy to work with, professional, easy to communicate with. He quoted me an excellent price. He followed my requirements. When I asked for a change in the sidewalk form in one place, he made the change, no problem. The pour went smoothly, and the results were perfect. No issues whatsoever, and I could not be happier with the result. If I know anyone who needs concrete work, I will refer that person to MAC Concrete Construction.

Overall MAC was the lowest of three bidders. Their license and insurance were all current with no complaints with the contractors board. The weather was challenging from start to finish but they did an exceptional job dealing with the elements. A concrete job is always a mess during the process but they cleaned up well and even placed gravel by the drive to cover the bare ground. Cresensio was easy to deal with but his english was a challenge at times, make sure things are heard and understood and all will go well.

I think that my description above tells the tale quite adequately. With each problem that emerged (the mud underlay, and the drainage problem), Mr. Martinez called, explained the problem, waited until my husband and I could drive over and see it for ourselves (we live nearby also so it was a short time frame), explained it again - it was pretty obvious about the mud, but the drainage problem is more complex, but my husband and Mr. Martinez talked it out, and decided on the best way to handle it. I couldn't be happier than I am with the new driveway. It looks beautiful, and I know that the below surface problems have been dealt with, and the drainage problem will be dealt with shortly. I have already asked Mr. Martinez to give me a quote on replacing some dangerous concrete stairs between two driveways at our house, and as soon as a new kitchen window comes in to the vendor, he will pick it up and install it at our rental house, as we had replaced all the windows but one in the last two years, and since Mr. Martinez does general contracting as well, I felt very comfortable having him put the window in. Mr. Martinez and his crew are polite, hard-working, punctual, professional, and worthy of commendation. I will continue to use his skills on other things that need doing on both houses. I had received several other quotes, and they were all in the same ballpark, but I picked Mr. Martinez because of his high rating on Angie's List, and in my first meeting, I felt like I was in good hands, and that turned out to be the case.
Description of Work: The existing concrete driveway at our rental house looked like a disaster area - sunken in some areas, raised in others. and was a walking/driving hazard. I presumed tree roots had lifted it over time. Mr. Martinez, who, it turns out, lives a block away, looked at the driveway and shook his head. "Not tree roots", he said. He and his crew used a cat, pickaxes, and brute strength to crack and lift the existing driveway, and hauled it away. He called me to see "the problem". The driveway had been poured (I assume when the house was built in the mid-seventies) on top of soil. There were no layers of sand, rocks, or gravel. Two gutter drainage pipes that collected roof water drained into a pipe running across the top of the driveway, under the cement, and were sealed. The pipe had cracked, and all these years, the water from the roof trickled under the concrete and turned the driveway underneath into a sea of mud. Mr. Martinez felt that the mud had to be removed and replaced with a bed of rock and gravel. I, of course, agreed that it had to be done, which added to the cost of the job, but that was OK with me, as there would be no purpose in laying another driveway on top of the existing mud. Once that was done, and the rocks and gravel were in place and compacted, the concrete was poured and smoothed out. At the appropriate time, cuts were made in the concrete, so that it wasn't just one big solid piece of concrete, and the concrete surface was "resurfaced" so that it was not smooth and slippery. Barriers were placed for a few days - they will likely be removed when Mr. Martinez feels that the driveway can be used. If I were him, I'd leave the barriers up, and allow the general population to admire his handiwork. He encountered several problems with the drainage system, and they will be addressed (by him) in the next few weeks, so that the drainage pipes from the garage gutters will drain underground, a few inches from the driveway, through a pipe to the street sewer. This will be a separate job. Mr. Martinez and his crew promised a "broom swept"finish, and they were true to his word. There wasn't any indication, except for the beautiful new driveway, and the barriers, that anything had been done.

Cres’ estimate was the most reasonable estimate. I appreciated the level of detail when Cres and I talked about the job. Cres was more knowledgeable and reliable than the couple other contractors I talked to. I am very happy with the results. Cres and his crew were very pleasant to deal with.
Description of Work: Removed existing 36 foot long retaining wall and built new retaining wall. Dug a 3 foot wide, 4 to 5 foot deep trench with a mini-excavator in front of the existing wall. Removed existing wall. Installed 7 new 6” by 6” by 8 foot high pressure treated posts in concrete. Built new retaining wall of pressure treated wood. Installed perforated drainage pipes and drainage rock for the 4 to 5 foot depth and one or two foot width in front of the wall. Cres then built the wall above the soil line about 4 or 5 feet tall with a 6” wide cap, created a good height wall to lean against, and top edge to put a drink or plate on. Looks good. Cres communicated well with me as we encountered questions about the property line and drainage so that I could talk to the other property owner and make decisions. He made good suggestions for improving the wall and look of the wall, and for plantings after the work was done. Also removed a cracked existing concrete patio and poured a new 8 foot by 12 foot concrete patio with an aggregate top. Looks good.

I called Mac and he came over the same day and looked at what we needed done and gave me a written estimate via email within a day. They called to schedule a time and arrived when they said they would. The demo and prep was done in one day and the concrete poured and finished the following day.
Description of Work: Mac demolished a concrete walk from my driveway to the front porch and replaced it with a new walk. There were some issues with the old walk which had settled and cracked. They diagnosed the issues and fixed the foundation problems when pouring the new walk. I wanted bricks embedded on the edge, which they did. It looks beautiful and I've very happy with the results, the professionalism and the promptness. I would definitely use Mac again.

thank for your reference, but I am offended of your comment. How do you know I don't have enough experience to do a big job? You never asked me about my references to see whether if not I was experienced to do big jobs.Either way this job wasn't big enough for me. I do enormous jobs for builders and other contractors. I'll give you some numbers of my references, so you can call and see that I am highly experienced than you think. Here are some numbers of my references that I have done big projects for; Sliver Tree Builders Inc. (503) 929-6650 In Your Home Inc. (503) 443-4224 Alameda Construction (503) 515-9139 Evergreen Home Inc. (503) 307-7117 I have done alot of big projects for home owners also. I have worked 20 years in construction work throughtout my life, specializing myself in doing foundation work and flat work. I have sufecientcy equipment to do these jobs. Crescencio and his team showed up on time although we were not ready. He returned the next day and started setting up the forms. It was a little harder then expected since the first channel didn't have good access and the prefab forms had to be modified quite a bit to fit the custom design. The next day they continued with the longest channel and poured as scheduled. They pulled out the forms and started on setting up the forms for the last two channels. Again, they poured on time. All this time, Crescencio was really on top of things and understood what we needed. He had useful suggestions for saving money and making the design better. We had four bids, 3 from Angies list and one we found through a recommendation. Crescencio came in several thousands dollars lower than the other guys.
Description of Work: We needed some special drainage channels put in on our steep driveway. The channels were roughly 2 to 3 feet deep, 1 foot wide, with a lip at the top for metal grating. Each channel had a catch basin and a release weir. The channels varied in length from 12 to 40 feet. In total there were 4 channels. All of them were custom designed. I provided some drawings that I drew up myself. I also had an excavator prepare the site.

Went very well overall. Cresantio came an looked at the site and the plans and gave us a bid within a couple days. When I contacted him to let him know that I would like to add on a front porch he told me that he would do that for just the additional concrete cost if I gave him the whole job. I agreed to that and his crew started the work on promptly on schedule. They completed the work on time and we only had one problem with the forms extending too close to the property line (an error on the plans), which the crew fixed quickly. Cresantio took the time to call me and make sure I understood how things would turn out when he identified unusual circumstances due to this being an addition to an existing house. All the concrete work came out pretty nice and the only thing I am a little concerned about is that there is no expansion joint in the garage floor slab. I haven't followed up to find out if this is an issue or not. Cresantio did try to charge me full price for the patio including labor, but after talking to him he lowered the price.
Description of Work: Removed existing concrete pad, excavated footings and poured foundation for 24'x22' garage and reinforced the existing house foundation with some pads so we could add second story. Also poured the floor in the garage and a 6x24' front porch.

I called Crescencio and asked that he provide us with more complete information on what he was going to do. His bid showed only the costs for labor, concrete, and dumping and hauling fees; another bid went into more detail, including putting in a rebar. Crescencio asked what kind of information I needed and I mentioned the rebar. He said he could do that, too, which led me to believe that if I hadn't said anything he would not have put one in. He said he couldn't do the job for a month or two, which was okay with me. Then he said maybe he could write up something the next day or not. When I asked if the "or not" meant not writing up something the next day or not doing the job at all, he said not do the job at all.
Description of Work: We needed our front step removed and a new, longer step put in. Crescencio gave us a bid immediately, which was considerably lower than another bid we received; the bid included putting drip holes in the adjoining planter and cleaning the planter's exterior at no charge.

It went great! Evelio came out the same day that I called to give a quote, and then he gave a quote on the spot. We were so impressed with the quote (it was $700 under the other quotes) that we hired him on the spot. Two weeks later, he came out on a Sunday and did the excavation work, and came back Tuesday afternoon to pour the concrete. It looks great!
Description of Work: Mac Concrete demo'd an existing sidewalk, poured a 6x12 dog run slab, repoured the sidewalk with a stair into the garage and extended our patio.
