KB Landscape & Tree Service

This is a sad day when you have to write a negative review on a business run by your friends. On 11/14/19 I contacted Matt Black, owner of K & B Landscaping, out of Yukon, Oklahoma, to get an estimate on a wooden fence and bamboo removal. Got the contact from a friend I closely worked with. My story sounds like many of the reviews I have since read on this company. Lots of promises, and no follow through. A contract was made on November 15, 2019, which stated that the chain link fence would be left in tack behind the new wood fence. The chain link fence was shared with neighbors behind and beside me. I requested the fence be left because I have small dogs and wanted the extra protection of both fences. Matt asked me if he could use the chain link fence poles to the rear of my house when putting up the wooden fence. I told him he was the expert, and I would let him decide what would be best. When the fence was done, the chain link fence on the side of my house had been completely removed. On the back fence, he removed the top rail of the chain link and slid new 8’ poles over the existing 4’poles. The new poles allow the fence to sway back and forth when the wind blows. On 2/4/20, I told Matt that the chain link itself was left flapping in the wind, not connected to anything. He said his workers should not have left it like that. He asked me to contact the two neighbors involved behind me for permission to go in their yards. I got permission from one neighbor on Feb, 29 and told Matt. On March 26 I told him that I got permission from the 2nd house behind me. The owner was also concerned about the hanging chain link and asked for Matt’s company name and phone number. I gave it to him. On April 7th, I sent Matt a text because I had not heard from him since March 3rd. He did respond and apologized, saying the delay was due to rain. He said he would come by mid-week but I never heard from him. On April 14th, I contacted him again and said it was an eyesore to the neighbors. His response was, “I’ll let you know when I can do that”. On April 25th, I sent a text and asked Matt not to forget me and the chain link but got no response. On June 13th, I sent still another text to Matt and told him that I was disappointed that he hadn’t responded. In late July I sent a text to his fiancée, my co-worker, who no longer works with me and told her the story. I never heard a word from either one of them. I sent a letter and email to K & B Landscaping on August 14, letting them know I would be writing reviews about the mess they left my fence in and have yet to hear from them.

Short(ish) version of this 1 month long fiasco... Called KB to come give me a quote on a sprinkler system. While walking the job, he sold me on doing other work at the house. Deck repair, landscaping etc. He told me he would throw in a bunch of stuff for free (which ended up not getting done or I was charged etc) and that he takes care of veterans. The bid came back at $12k, which was high to me... But my wife and I decided to get it done. I paid half up front and work started a couple weeks later. Once started, Matt or someone from his “crew” would show up but only every few days and for an average of 5 hours per week to work, which has made this 5 day project (based on his bid) last over 30. Meanwhile they are posting pictures of all the other jobs they are doing while my family and I are living in a muddy construction site. For a week or so, mud, pallets and his tools were blocking me from using my garage or my front entrance to my house. Every day it was a new excuse or new promise that would all fall through. “I’m so sorry, this is crazy, we will make it up to you” etc etc. Every day for weeks now. Many times they wouldn’t get here until 4pm and work until 6pm. I could tell they were doing other jobs and ours was just their side project, which we paid $16.5K for. I’m not your cousin, Matt. You don’t get to do my job on your spare time. On top of all of this, every single task they have worked on has had to be redone at least once due to poor quality. Like, horrible quality. Some of these are still ongoing to this day. Wood screws poking through hand rail, cables for the railing are popping off nearly daily, sprinkler system not working, painted our sidewalk while painting the deck, missed entire sections of paint on the deck, railings not square, shattered 40% of our flagstone and ruined our yard with his ride-on which has forced us to now pour concrete and sod the entire yard. The list goes on and on. 30 days later, he had not been here in a few days (more promises and excuses over the last three days to show up, never did). Then finally on 4/20/2020, my wife called to tell them the work needed to be done in the next two days or we would file a suit to get some of our money back so we could pay someone else to do the work/repair what he had broken. He then starts yelling/cussing and talking over myself and my wife on the phone. I have recently heard from a handful of others who have been treated the same. One of which is another disabled vet (see pics). Miraculously two sub-contractors show up to fix these issues and what took weeks of delaying to fix, was fixed by two other companies in a matter of hours. BECAUSE THEY ACTUALLY SHOWED UP AND WORKED. I still have a few things I need to fix that he broke, tree needs to be trimmed that he didn’t do, pavers relaced that he shattered etc. To me it was just worth telling him that we were good and to have him go away. We didn’t want to deal with him anymore. The way I see it, this is how this should work. 1. You do the work on the bid. 2. For the price bidded (or close). 3. In the time bidded. 4. And then we pay you in full. I was the only one who held up my end of this deal. I paid them in full 3 weeks ago because I was trying to be nice. Big mistake. Look at the BBB. I am the 2nd person in 2 months to have this exact same issue with him. Looking on OSCN.net, it appears Matt has two felonies due to home repair fraud and is currently on a 10 yr deferred sentence. Also said KB Landscaping was founded in 2009… Found out it was actually started in May of 2019… Should have done my research first… Stay far far away from this guy. I've never seen anything like this and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Best thing is that we touted about how much he was going to "take care of me" for being a disabled veteran. we met Matt, he came to our home to give us an idea what he thought professionally needed to be done, as well as talked to us about options for payment, knowing this is our first home, and our first time needing services. He kept contact throughout the past two days since I inquired and made sure I knew he was serious and professional. Very impressed with his personal quality and ability to understand our circumstances. Definitely worth meeting in person and getting a quote from, even if you're not ready at the very moment. great before and after photos too! Knew alot about his profession, and gave us as much schooling as we needed to understand the job that needed to be done.

When I reached out on the Yukon Happenings Facebook page for someone to look at my french drain system, Matt at KB Landscape not only replied to my recommendation request, he contacted me personally and offered to come by that same day to look at my drain problem. He educated me on how these systems work best, cleared the small clog in mine, and advised me on what I could do to make mine better. When I saw on his truck that his company also does landscape work, I also had him give me estimates on a couple of projects I was looking at doing around my home. Matt was very transparent about what he would do on each project, expressed that he was very particular about the quality of work he does (he showed me lots of photos of his work). I was definitely impressed! I never felt like he was trying to sell me service I didn't need. Matt was very polite and genuine, and made me feel more like a member of his family, rather than just a generic customer. If you need any type of landscaping, french drain, tree trimming service, I would HIGHLY recommend contacting KB Landscape!

As a retired senior citizen on a limited income it’s tough to be willing to trust any service company. I placed my trust in Matt after he visited with me several times...IN PERSON!! He was kind, considerate, and extremely professional. His before and after examples are true to the level of expertise and timely completions. You will definitely be satisfied!!

Professional work done in a timely manner. From start to finish, no short cuts with this company!!! Highly recommend! Beautiful outcome of every project done!!

My wife had this "vision" of flowerbeds and some sort of decorative landscaping for the front of our home., which had been thoroughly neglected by the prior owners. Not wanting our new home to continue to be an eyesore, we contacted KB Landscaping and Tree Service. When Matt arrived, ( on time!) he brought not only a wealth of ideas, but photos and samples to help us visualize our project, which we scheduled to begin 10 days hence. They arrived and did the job with surprising professionalism. His crew was polite and helpful and left no mess at all for us to clean up. The end result was exactly what we paid for, but somewhat beyond what we expected. It looked like a completetly different home! My wife was very happy, and THAT is what matters to me. I recommend Matt and his crew at KB Landscaping and Tree Service with unbridled enthusiasm.

I couldn't have been more happier with this company,very professional,and moved quickly going above and beyond on each task, I definitely will hire them again in the future for any ongoing projects and will refer them to all of my friends or any homeowner needing a project completed with a professional touch.

I hired KB Landscape to install 3,000 feet of 5 strand barb wire fence on my property. Matt and his crew did a great job! Work was completed by his estimated date. Posts were straight and in line all the way. I am very pleased with the work he did. I will definitely use them again for any job I have on my place.

Matt and his crew was very personable and prompt. They cleaned their mess up after all 5 of our tree removals. We will definitely have them return in the near future for more projects.
