When I called John he told me he was booked for several weeks which I was actually glad to hear because that meant he was a popular contractor. Even though he could not actually start my job for several weeks he came that week to look at my flooring and reasonably quoted the job. He even met at several flooring places to look at tile with me, ultimately I decided on a tile from Lowes and helped John helped me know how much to buy, and helped me know how much concrete board, and grout that I needed. It was very helpful to help me to have him at the store with me since he had seen my home and knew all the correct dimensions, I never would have thought to figure in what he called "waste" because I have a lot of corners and angles in my home. We gathered up all the supplies and Lowes stored them for John. When he was ready to begin my job he went back to Lowes and picked up my supplies for free, this was a big deal to me because Lowes is 30 minutes from my house. Once he began the job he was on time every day, which was a big deal because I had to be at work on time. He asked me what hours I wanted him to work, when I said it didn't matter to me, he suggested beginning at around seven and working into the evening. He was prompt at 7:00 am and each evening when I got home he would ask if I minded that he stay and continue working, it did not ever bother me that he was there working, but I liked that he offered to leave when I got home from work. He was left in my house alone each day, and I never felt uncomfortable about it. I did have one surprise one day when I came home, John had showed me a CD of his work when he came to quote the job and I loved the borders he did in other peoples homes, but I did not want to pay for a border. I told him to keep it as simple as we could as I was planning to sell the home, and did not want to incur the extra expense of a border. But when I came home from work he had installed a border in my laundry room made out of the "waste" from my tile, it looked incredible. He finished the job in the time that he said, he moved all my appliances back into place. I was pleased with this contractor and with his work. I would recommend him to a friend, and actually already have.
Description of Work: John laid ceramic tile in my kitchen, laundry room, and both bathrooms, he also quoted me a price to lay new hardwood floors, but I decided to tackle refinishing them instead. When I told him I wanted to refinish them instead of laying new floors he was still very helpful in referring me to trustworthy contractors who did refinishing.
