Flores Painting and Drywall

He claims to have twenty years of experience on his business card. He provided the estimate for the work and quoted me $950 for the entire job. I had explained to him that I was available during specific hours and agreed that he could get the work done in my schedule. His quote was $145 higher than another company, but he was available right then, so I had hired him for the work. He showed up one hour late on Monday with another guy. Jesse did leave the job and left his assistant who barely speaks English alone to complete the work. He left two places where he did not remove the drywall. Jesse came back at around 3:30pm when I started to hear a drill. When I saw them, they were trying to install the drywall without removing and installing the new insulation. When I confronted them, they then took all of the insulation out, bagged it, and installed the new insulation. Later on, two men showed up to install the drywall. They didn’t install the trim and even left two areas untouched. When Jesse showed up the next day, I pointed out several places where the trim needed to come down and where the two pieces of drywall needed to come out. He agreed with me and then mudded the room and put the tape up. He then told me that his guy would be back within a couple of hours. When his guy came back, he removed two pieces of drywall, trim, and then left. On Wednesday when he was supposed to mud the room, Jesse showed up an hour and a half late without calling to let me know. He gave me excuses which I knew were lies. He was only able to mud part of the room. They did not bother to clean up part of their mess at all. He said he would come back on Friday to finish the job. He said he was done with the work, but I could see that the colors were darker in some spots and lighter in the others. He mentioned that it just needed to dry. I refused to pay him before the work was completed, but he begged me for $600 so that he could pay workers. He started arguing with me and said that the trim work was not part of the deal. Within an hour, they had all of the trim work except for a window where they did not even bother to remove the old trim. Because they finished the trim and I was in a hurry, I paid them for the work. They did not bother to remove the trim work around the window at all. When I came back the next day, the colors were still mismatching, the outlets were not pulled out of the drywall, and the trim was set too high on the ground. I called him three times and left a message. Since he did not return my phone calls, I went downtown and filed a small claims lawsuit for $300. I have had to refinish the work myself.
