We do not build custom homes and we do not typically do commercial renovations/remodels.
Our home was built in 1971 and has been in our family since 1975. By 1998 it was beginning to show its age and our family made the decision to remodel. The master bathroom became the first of many projects that The Buckingham Group would undertake for us. Since that initial remodel they have completed five additional projects, the last of which, some twenty-five years later, was an update of their original bathroom remodel. The scope or work undertaken by The Buckingham Group has ranged from minor maintenance to the total renovation of our kitchen, utility room and guest bathroom. Independent of the scale of the project, our twenty-five-year relationship with them has been consistently positive. Their design services are one of the many attributes that distinguishes them from other firms in the field. They have the unique capability to reallocate space in a home to optimize its use. Complementing the design staff are their carpenters, who are actual employees of the company and a group of trade professionals, who are not only skilled craftsman, but have strong interpersonal skills as well. Over the years they have transformed our house into a home that works well and brings pride and joy to us on a daily basis. If you have a remodel that you are considering, want to bring it in on time and on budget, contact The Buckingham Group. You will not be disappointed.

We have a small house with space challenges. The Buckingham Group designed a plan that allowed us to utilize the space we have in a new way. They do excellent design work and then work as the general contractor to direct their team of subcontractors to complete the work. They are meticulous and want to be sure that they have done the work to the homeowner's satisfaction. We had a moisture problem under our hardwoods as a result of crawl space humidity and they worked tirelessly to find the right, and reasonably priced, answer to our issues. We cannot be more satisfied with their work!
Description of Work: All bathrooms were gutted and redone; all hardwood floors were refinished, new cabinetry was installed in an office and bathrooms, all lighting was updated, and all rooms were painted.

This is the fourth design/build project The Buckingham Group has completed for my family. I am writing to inform you and your team of how much we are enjoying our new outdoor kitchen and entertainment space. Working with The Buckingham Group was a breath of fresh air as you guided us through both the design and product selection process. We were impressed with the amount of time that you not only invested in researching each product, but in directing us to products that represented the most favorable cost to value ratio for us. Your company’s paper trail and outstanding level of documentation through both hard copy and your web-based construction management system allowed us to follow the complete job from anywhere there was an internet connection. Each of the subcontractors you used was proficient in their area of expertise and was diligent in their effort to provide us with an outstanding product. From the plumbers and electricians to the painters, tile installers, brick masons and roofers, everything was completed with a high level of perfection. The end result is an outdoor kitchen and entertainment complex that we will enjoy for many years to come. Thank you again for a beautiful addition to our home.

We found the Buckingham Group to be a very comprehensive design/build group that worked diligently to provide us with exactly what we wanted with attention to detail and quality workmanship. The design phase was challenging but Ed and his group worked hard through several revisions to get what we wanted in the space we had to accommodate a new master suite: bath, closet, and bedroom. Having the book of suppliers with addresses, phone numbers and the preferred contact made the daunting task of picking out plumbing, electrical, floor covering and mechanical items much simpler. Once the design details were nailed down, the project was scheduled. The Buckingham Group uses Builder Trend, an internet-based tool showing all aspects of the project: scheduling, action items, costs and payments, as well as any change orders, allowing all to see quotes that are either accepted or declined. Everything stayed right on schedule until we had to pause while waiting on items that were delayed (due to no fault of the Buckingham Group). Ed and his staff stayed in communication and were quick to answer questions or even come by to keep everyone “on the same page”. His staff is professional and skilled. We felt very comfortable having them in our house. Buckingham Group staff, as well as sub-contractors, showed up every day that work was scheduled. We never wondered when work was going to be completed. All in all, we are happy with our Buckingham experience from design to completion. We would definitely consider using them for another project.

Have done two outstanding remodeling projects with The Buckingham Group. The first one was a kitchen remodel. Our kitchen was outdated with lighting in a drop down “popcorn” ceiling, old oak cabinets that provided inadequate storage and dated countertops. Everything was redone including cabinets, countertops, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, crown molding and raising the ceiling and installing recessed can lighting. We were impressed with the process which included the initial design phase to identify why and what we wanted the finish project to achieve, approving the design concept and realizing our beautiful kitchen when the project was completed. The process was A+ from start to finish. Everything was spelled out in a written contract that covered the entire process. The Buckingham Group was exceptional in its quality design and workmanship. ***Best review in my view is that several years later and a new address, we had The Buckingham Group redo a small bathroom that needed a large shower and linen closet. It was a dismal space that was transformed into beautiful, functional bathroom. Success - Thank you Ed and The Buckingham Group.

The project went well and all work promised was done. The two main workers who worked for Buckingham were outstanding and were experts in all facets of the job. However, some of the the other contractors were average to good and were not as professional as the two Buckingham employees. There was a schedule made which had all the details laid out. However, there were several days when the scheduled contractor did not show up and no one notified us. We always tried to be at home when there was work scheduled and these no show days were irritating. The quality of the work performed was excellent and we are extremely pleased with the end result. We budgeted for a certain dollar amount but because of change orders, we exceeded our budget by several thousand dollars. We made it clear when the contract was signed that we did not want to exceed this amount. Some of the extra costs were enhancements which we agreed to and others were change orders where we had no choice. This was the most irritating part of the whole process. We're glad we had the work done and as mentioned, the quality is outstanding. However, be prepared to spend more than you expect.

We found the Buckingham group at a designer's showcase. I was impressed with the work I saw and I still believe this company does some great work. My issues with the Buckingham group don't have anything to do with the quality of their construction and remodeling work, but everything to do with the processes of their company, specifically the owner. Our project was a build-out of a sleeping porch and a bathroom remodel. From day one, we asked for any sort of cost estimate the owner, could give us. I wanted a general ballpark number. A number for budgeting purposes, not a number to be brought up at a later date when unforeseen issues may occur. They wouldn't give me anything. I asked several times after the owner had toured our house and talked in detail about the project, but I got nothing back from him. Instead, he kept pushing for us to allow him to draw up the project into design plans, something he charges $1500-2000 to do. We really liked the work we saw at the designer showcase, so we moved forward with the plans, believing we'd have them do the project. We figured spending the $2000 or so on a great design is likely worth the expense. During the design phase, we asked for several things to be incorporated into the design. Simple things like where to put the plumbing fixtures and sinks. We asked him to keep our bathroom doorway where it currently is, and asked for specific design features to be added in the bathroom. Often the owner, who also works with clients in the design phase, would respond with "That's expensive", and seemed reluctant to even draw up what we wanted. If we asked, "How much?" after his "expensive" comment, he still would not give us even a very rough number. One time we were called by someone at Buckingham's office to check in and ask how the design process was going. We took the opportunity to tell the caller that the owner seemed reluctant to incorporate some of our thoughts into the design, and we explained to her that we were tired of hearing him tell us things are "expensive", but never giving us any numbers. Expensive is relative to budget, and the owner had no idea how much money we have set aside for the project, and he still hadn't given us ANY overall cost ideas. She assured us she'd talk with him to help the process go more smoothly. Finally, the day came to review the plans they had drawn up. When going over the plans, the owner told us that there were a few things he knew we wanted one way, but he did them other ways due to expense. He moved a doorway (which would have likely cost more to move than to leave where it was) even though we asked him to not to move it. He planned the closet completely differently than we had discussed. He put plumbing in places where we asked him not to, and he flatly refused to add simple things like the line drain we specifically asked for in the shower, saying it is too expensive. Really? A line drain is too expensive when the overall cost of the project ended up being estimated at $125,000+? There were at least 10-15 items that we had made very clear we wanted in a certain way that he refused to draw as we had asked. The last straw for me was the line drain in the shower. When we first saw the plans together, the owner said, "I know you wanted a line drain, but we did a round drain because line drains are too expensive". At this point, it was obvious to me I couldn't work with him. Is he doing this so he can charge more later when amending the plans? If someone I employ and pay to do a job knows I want it done a certain way, but CHOOSES to do it another, we won't work together. I'm sure that over time, and after many discussions and design alterations, they would have finally produced plans to our liking. I wonder how much time would have been wasted and how much more I would have owe'd the Buckingham Group in design fees after many alterations of the design? Most companies will give you a very general ballpark figure the first time they visit your house and evaluate your project. Buckingham refused. Most companies strive to incorporate your ideas into the plans. Buckingham refused. Many companies will do both before charging you anything. I paid the Buckingham Group around $1500 for a design that wasn't what I asked for and ended up being useless. I'm sure the owner will have a response here, as he always seems to. He'll likely say that drawing up plans is expensive! I obviously didn't have a problem paying, or I wouldn't have agreed to pay him for designs before he even gave me a ballpark figure. The bottom line for me is that I won't hire someone who refuses to listen to my ideas, discuss general ballpark figures, or answer my questions. Truth be told, I feel duped into paying $1500 for plans that aren't what I asked for and cannot use. Maybe that's what they wanted...? They cashed my check even though they knew I wasn't at all happy with what they sold me.

Response from The Buckingham Group
As the owner of The Buckingham Group, it is important that both my company and I meet the expectations of our clients in two distinct areas: project design and construction of their remodel. Accordingly, it is not our policy to refuse to undertake a client's wishes, but rather to look at the overall project and blend our knowledge with their requests to develop their design. We have a long record of success in using this approach, but certainly do not claim to be perfect in everything we do. It is apparent that we missed the target with this client's design and I want to personally apologize for not meeting their needs. Consequently, I would be more than happy to complete the design of their floor plan to their satisfaction at no additional charge. With respect to the potential cost of a project, when I can offer a reasonable estimate prior to the start of the design phase, I am more than happy to provide this information. On the other hand, if I don't feel that a number that I could provide would be reasonable, I defer until we are further into the design phase of the project. This practice has served us well for over 38 years. When I visited this client's home, I did not feel comfortable in giving them a number at that time due to the complexity of their project and advised them accordingly. When the floor plan was reviewed with them, a projected cost of $125,000 was provided.

The job went very well. Ed Kaplan and his employees were very pleasant to work with and did an excellent job of constructing our garage. Ed spent a considerable amount of time with us discussing the project and developed a detailed contract that listed all work to be provided with a complete description of the materials to be used in the construction. The project was completed in a timely manner and at the quoted price. Any issues that arose were quickly resolved. I would definitely recommend The Buckingham Group to anyone considering and an addition to their home or a remodeling project.

I have a room I want to convert into another bedroom for my expanding family. I called them and set up an appointment for them to come give me an estimate. Days before the appointment they cancelled due to "too many projects" and "wouldn't be able to fit you in at a reasonable time frame". Then why make the appointment? I understand that they are a big company and are probably busy but I was looking for estimates and not expecting them to do it the next day. It was also very strange that when making the appointment they asked if I had talked to someone else about estimates. I told them that I had but he was rude to me and I wasnt going to go with them. Turns out they were both rude and neither are going to receive my business.

First, the design was brilliant. In addition to desiring everything a one-car garage could afford, we had several specific and, dare I say, peculiar requests. In addition to requesting extra storage space and a storm shelter, we wanted to use the garage as an overflow sleeping area, a work out area, and a place to wash our dogs. Ed and his team developed a plan that was creative, practical, and cost conscious. Second, the process of construction was remarkable. We appreciated the detailed plan, specific estimates, and posted schedule for the work so we could plan around what would be happening every day. We can’t say enough about Ed Kaplan and his project manager. The on-site foreman was attentive to all of our ideas and concerns during the execution of the project. He developed an ambitious project calendar and kept to it with the rare exception of a few weather-hindered days. Both the on-site foreman and Ed were accessible and responsive to our communications during the weeks of construction. We were also impressed that Ed sought solutions that were as low cost as possible. For instance, the need to have the space heated and cooled was solved in a way that was more cost-effective than what we had planned. Third, the final product speaks for itself. The word that comes to mind is “excellent.” Our new addition is better than we dreamed. We found someone we could trust, someone who was not only talented but honorable. We found someone who would not only design our project well, but carefully oversee its completion from start to finish. We found in Ed Kaplan someone who takes true pleasure in doing things well and with integrity. We highly recommend The Buckingham Group and wish we had another project to pursue just to see them work their magic.
Description of Work: We contacted Ed Kaplan and The Buckingham Group because we needed to add a multipurpose addition/garage to our home in the country. It was especially important to us, since we are not yet living in the home and live two hours away from the project, to contract with someone we could trust. We can say, now that the project is complete, that we couldn't be more pleased with our experience. You can trust Ed Kaplan and his team. From design, throughout construction, and to the final details, it has been a satisfying experience.

We certainly appreciate receiving feedback from both existing and potential clients. With respect to the [removed member name] Bathroom remodel, our records show that we initially met them at the 2013 Home & Garden Show and subsequently scheduled a meeting with them for 6:00PM on Wednesday April 3 2013. During this meeting we typically spend 1-1/2 to 2 hrs with the potential client. We provide them with literature about the project that they are about to undertake and completely review our three stage construction process with them. This fact is acknowledged by the [removed member name] in their review where they describe our meeting as educational. Typically we will, if they express an interest in what we have to offer, go through a comprehensive five page questionnaire so that we have a compete understanding of what they are looking for, and if the project warrants it have the client sign a Memo of Agreement for our design work. At this time I can not remember whether we actually went through our questionnaire or simply talked in generalities about their project. Once we have gone through our presentation, the potential client will generally ask for a ballpark number on what we anticipate the job will cost. The number that we give at that time is an educated guess as the particulars have not been tied down. It is based on our 33 years of remodeling experience in the Tulsa market and the result of having remodeled hundreds of bathrooms as a design/build contractor in Tulsa. Our disciplined approach and well thought out business model has resulted in our firm being asked to do presentations on our approach to business to the National Kitchen & Bath Associations Annual Convention both in 2013 and again in 2014. We are quite proud of the fact that we are one of 70 speakers selected from across the country to partake in "The Voices of the Industry Program" and feel that our selection recognizes our over level of competence and business structure as assessed by our piers. There are a multitude of questions that I could ask about what the Taylors did, how they did it, the materials used and whether they hired a general contractor or acted as their own general contractor for the project. Independent of getting answers to these questions there are several things that I can state with 100% assurance: . We are a quality and service oriented design build contractor that has serviced the Tulsa Market for over 33 years. . We treat all of our clients, independent of their financial circumstances equally. We do not only work in the homes of High Net Worth Individuals . We have never had a law suite. . We provide a three year warranty on our workmanship . We do all of our jobs with the same level of service, quality and creativity independent of whether it is in a modest home or mansion. The only variable that we have in our work effort is the products that clients select to achieve their objectives. . A $30,000 job can not be done for $12,000. I wish I could make a 250% profit on my work as it would have enabled me to retire years ago. Quite frankly, I am happy that the [removed member name] were able to get what they wanted done for $12,000, but can state with considerable assurance that the scope of work could not be what I understood it to be. Once again I thank the [removed member name] for their input. Edward B. Kaplan President Edward B. Kaplan President

We met Ed at the Home and Garden Show where I really liked his and quot; Before and Afterand quot; photos of Tulsa homes. Our house needed a face-lift so I gave them my number for followup. They called me one evening and because things were crazy for us at the time, I told them I was not ready to go further on the project. She politely asked is I would like her to call back in a couple mos and I asked her to call me back in about 6 mos. Much to my surprise, she did! Never did I feel any pressure from them....not at all. Very impressed with the way they handle the calling. Anyway, once we decided to go forward, Ed came out an met with me and sent a proposal. We were then given drawings, made some changes and we are EXTREMELY happy with the results. The first round of drawing were nice, but I had an image in mind of what I wanted, so I sent Ed a photo and he worked the elements into the design beautifully! At this time, we are not going forward because we may move out of state, BUT if we stay in Tulsa, we WILL have the Buckingham Group do the renovation. In my past and quot;before motherhoodand quot; life, I was an Interior Designer and handled large multi-million dollar projects. Ed is the first and only person in Tulsa that I would want to handle a construction project for me. He has all his own subs and I would even go as far to say that I would leave town when he was working on my house and know that it would be done well...... I DO NOT say that lightly. We have renovated nearly the entire interior of our home and there is only one other person I can give this type of review to and he is a painter!
